  • Multiple asserts in single test?

    Let's say I want to write a function that validates an email address with a regex. I write a little test to check my function and write the actual function. Make it pass. However, I can come up with a bunch of different ways to test the same function ([email protected]; [email protected]; test.test.com, etc). Do I put all the incantations that I need to check in the same, single test with several ASSERTS or do I write a new test for every single thing I can think of? Thanks!

  • Flushing writes in buffer of Memory Controller to DDR device

    At some point in my code, I need to push the writes in my code all the way to the DIMM or DDR device. My requirement is to ensure the write reaches the row,ban,column of the DDR device on the DIMM. I need to read what I've written to the main memory. I do not want caching to get me the value. Instead after writing I want to fetch this value from main memory(DIMM's). So far I've been using Intel's x86 instruction wbinvd(write back and invalidate cache). However this means the caches and TLB are flushed. Write-back requests go to the main memory. However, there is a reasonable amount of time this data might reside in the write buffer of the Memory Controller( Intel calls it integrated memory controller or IMC). The Memory Controller might take some more time depending on the algorithm that runs in the Memory Controller to handle writes. Is there a way I force all existing or pending writes in the write buffer of the memory controller to the DRAM devices ?? What I am looking for is something more direct and more low-level than wbinvd. If you could point me to right documents or specs that describe this I would be grateful. Generally, the IMC has a several registers which can be written or read from. From looking at the specs for that for the chipset I could not find anything useful. What i have read in site is that it should be part of "Application_onPostauthentication" event of global.asax but i am not getting that if i write there then it is execute for each request of user.   • How can I connect to MSMQ over a workgroup?

    I'm writing a simple console client-server app using MSMQ. I'm attempting to run it over the workgroup we have set up. They run just fine when run on the same computer, but I can't get them to connect over the network. I've tried adding Direct=, OS:, and a bunch of combinations of other prefaces, but I'm running out of ideas, and obviously don't know the right way to do it. My queue's don't have GUIDs, which is also slightly confusing. Whenever I attempt to connect to a remote machine, I get an invalid queue name message. What do I have to do to make this work? How do ensure that it reads it like an array?

  • MVVM: Do I need Inheritance with ViewModels A + B ?

    Hello guys my first post on SO because EE sucks in the meantime ;P I am using wpf and mvvm in my desktop application. Scenario: I have a calendar with week A and week B which are rotating by every X week depending on the user settings. But the UserControl "week B" is only visible when the user sets the option "rotating weeks"... The UserControl with week A has a DataGrid and for week B I want to use the same UserControl of course. What I want to achieve is that all data entered/choosen by the user in the Week A is saved/backed by a ViewModel A and Model C. When the user wants a rotating weekly calendar plan I need also a ViewModel B and again Model C. The reason why I need to know what data entered by the user belongs to week A or week B is because I have to write the entered data in a certain order into the database = db.Write(weekA),db.Write(weekB),db.Write(weekA),etc... I am unsure how a solution could look like... What would you do to identify a ViewModel A or B so you know the order of how to write the data in the proper order into database? Any other suggestions are also welcome of course, maybe I think in the wrong direction its late here :) I am new to mvvm so please be patient.

  • Is it possible to turn a string with base64 encoded image data into a displayable image in flash lit

    I have tried using a data URI to load the image data into a movie clip, but flash lite does not appear to support the data URI scheme. I also thought it might be possible to base64 decode the image data and write it out to a file and load the file back into the movie clip using the file URI scheme. However, I do not see a way to write to the filesystem in the documentation. Am I missing something in the flash lite docs that would allow me to write to the filesystem?

  • Reduce durability in MySQL for performance

    My site occasionally has fairly predictable bursts of traffic that increase the throughput by 100 times more than normal. For example, we are going to be featured on a television show, and I expect in the hour after the show, I'll get more than 100 times more traffic than normal. My understanding is that MySQL (InnoDB) generally keeps my data in a bunch of different places: RAM Buffers commitlog binary log actual tables All of the above places on my DB slave This is too much "durability" given that I'm on an EC2 node and most of the stuff goes across the same network pipe (file systems are network attached). Plus the drives are just slow. The data is not high value and I'd rather take a small chance of a few minutes of data loss rather than have a high probability of an outage when the crowd arrives. During these traffic bursts I would like to do all of that I/O only if I can afford it. I'd like to just keep as much in RAM as possible (I have a fair chunk of RAM compared to the data size that would be touched over an hour). If buffers get scarce, or the I/O channel is not too overloaded, then sure, I'd like things to go to the commitlog or binary log to be sent to the slave. If, and only if, the I/O channel is not overloaded, I'd like to write back to the actual tables. In other words, I'd like MySQL/InnoDB to use a "write back" cache algorithm rather than a "write through" cache algorithm. Can I convince it to do that? If this is not possible, I am interested in general MySQL write-performance optimization tips. Most of the docs are about optimizing read performance, but when I get a crowd of users, I am creating accounts for all of them, so that's a write-heavy workload.

  • How to test custom handler500?

    I write my handler for server errors and define it at root urls.py: handler500 = 'myhandler' And I want to write unittest for testing how it works. For testing I write view with error and define it in test URLs configuration, when I make request to this view in browser I see my handler and receive status code 500, but when I launch test that make request to this view I see stack trace and my test failed. Have you some ideas for testing handler500 by unittests?

  • Java long task - Did it stop writing to file?

    I am writing a lot of data to a file, and while keeping my eye on the file it eventually stopped growing in size. Essentially my task is getting information from a database, and printing out all non-unique values in column A. Since there are many rows to the database table, and the database table is across my network, this is taking days to complete. Thus I'm concerned that since the file isn't growing, that it isn't actually writing to the file anymore. Which is odd, I have no "catch"'s in my code, so if there was a problem writing to file, wouldn't it have thrown an error?! Should I let the task complete (estimate 2-3 days from today), or is there something else that I don't know going on here making my application not write to the file?! my algorithm goes something like this Declare file Create new file Open file for writing get database connection get resultset from database for each row in the resultset - write column "A" to file - if row# % 100000 then write to screen "completed " + row# + " rows" when no more rows exist close file write to screen - "completed"
