• Visual Studio unable to open Web site error

  Hello, I work with Visual Studio 2008 and work on a web project which contains a web site. When opening the solution file, I receive the error message: "Unable to open the Web site http://localhost/myWebsite.de. The Web site http://localhost/myWebsite.de does not exist." I can see the web site greyed out, with the remark "unavailable", in the solution folder. It is possible to add the web site to the solution, but after relaunching Visual Studio, it´s gone again. Has anyone had this problem in a similar way?

• Sharepoint SSO bulk creation of user accounts

  Hopefully someone can help... I need to provide client with a solution to allow bulk creation of user accounts into SharePoint SSO. The client wants to provide an excel spreadsheet with accounts, usernames and passwords and have that created in the SSO database. I've been told its possible but I can't see how and google is failing me. I've been told its "some custom development and the SharePoint object model". As far as I can see all of the credentials stuff in the Microsoft.SharePoint.Portal.SingleSignon namespace is very much read only. I have a solution which is to get them to save the spreadsheet as a CSV file and to use jmeter to squirt the data in through the front end. I don't think that's really an acceptable solution though. Anyone got any clues? Or can anyone say definitively this can't be done? Thanks in advance...

  Hi all, I have a huge tab-separated file formatted like this X column1 column2 column3 row1 0 1 2 row2 3 4 5 row3 6 7 8 row4 9 10 11 I would like to transpose it in an efficient way using only using commands (I could write a ten or so lines Perl script to do that, but it should be slower to execute than the native bash functions). So the output should look like X row1 row2 row3 row4 column1 0 3 6 9 column2 1 4 7 10 column3 2 5 8 11 I thought of a solution like this cols=`head -n 1 input | wc -w` for (( i=1; i <= $cols; i++)) do cut -f $i input | tr $'\n' $'\t' | sed -e "s/\t$/\n/g" >> output done But it's slow and doesn't seem the most efficient solution. I've seen a solution for vi in this post, but it's still over-slow. Any thoughts/suggestions/brilliant ideas? :-)

• Failed to create feature receiver object from assembly/FileNotFound...

  During solution deployments & Feature activation, I am facing an on/off issue where the system is unable to find & load the FeatureReceiver class. Mostly it is file not found exception (even though the assembly is there in the GAC). I checked over the net and this seems it a common issue with solutions (wsp) packaging DLL to be GACed. (But, no one has any clue or solution!) What is the recommendation and guideline to fix this issue? We are setting the flag to reset IIS in my solution definition - but that does not seem to help. The issue is more prevalent in multi-M farms. Thanks

• Play video in UIWebView from NSData

  Hello there, Does anybody know how to play a video in a UIVebView ? The video comes from the iphone library, when I pick it, I store it in core data as binary data. If i use the local url of the video it's working fine, the problem I have is that the this url refers to a folder named "tmp", and I don't know the lifetime of it. If I can get the real url of the video file it will be ok. //attachment is the core data object containing the data NSURL *url = [NSURL URLWithString:attachment.path]; [self.webView loadRequest:[NSURLRequest requestWithURL:url]]; I tried a solution that doesn't work: (i tried MIMETypes : "video/quicktime" and "video/mp4") [self.webView loadData:attachment.data MIMEType:@"video/mov" textEncodingName:nil baseURL:nil]; I think the second solution is the closest, and the problem comes from the MIMEType.   I'm currently setting up WSS 3.0 at my work, and I'm in the finance section of it. My question is, is there a possibility to encrypt and decrypt lists? And I mean entire lists, because the document libraries will have different types of files in it, from Word to Invoices in InfoPath. I know there is a solution in CodePlex called CryptoCollaboration, but whenever I deploy the solution in SharePoint I get a server error. Any alternatives? Or maybe you could fix the codeplex solution, that would be great! Thanks in advance!

• Git ignore sub folders

  I have a lot of projects in my .Net solution. I would like to exclude all "bin/Debug" and "bin/Release" folders (and their contents), but still include the "bin" folder itself and any dll's contained therein. .gitignore with "bin/" ignores "Debug" and "Release" folders, but also any dll's contained in the "bin" folder. "bin/Debug" or "bin/Release" in the .gitignore file does not exclude the directories, unless I fully qualify the ignore pattern as "Solution/Project/bin/Debug" - which I don't want to do as I will need to include this full pattern for each project in my solution, as well as add it for any new projects added. Any suggestions?

• AJAX: how to get progress feedback in web apps, and to avoid timeouts on long requests?

  This is a general design question about how to make a web application that will receive a large amount of uploaded data, process it, and return a result, all without the dreaded spinning beach-ball for 5 minutes or a possible HTTP timeout. Here's the requirements: make a web form where you can upload a CSV file containing a list of URLs when the user clicks "submit", the server fetches the file, and checks each URL to see if its alive, and what the title tag of the page is. the result is a downloadable CSV file containing the URL, and the result HTTP code the input CSV can be very large ( 100000 rows), so the fetch process might take 5-30 minutes. My solution so far is to have a spinning javascript loop on the client site, which queries the server every second to determine the overall progress of the job. This seems kludgy to me, and I'm hesitant to accept this as the best solution. I'm using perl, template toolkit, and jquery, but any solution using any web technology would be acceptable.

  I want to make a simple Go board to design an Computer Go game. In a go game, you lie a "stone" (white or black) on a position where horizontal and vertical lines intersect. What are some simple ways to restrict users from placing their stones in other locations? Maybe I'm just not seeing a simple solution. EDIT I guess I should rephrase my question better: I want to know how to do the background image of Go board, so that I can lie my stones on the intersection of the horizontal and the vertical lines. I was thinking about getting a just regular Go board image, and when I'm actually rendering stones, I find right position of pixels to lie stones. However, that solution did not seem to be the best solution, since I need to worry about size of stone images and think about proportionality when I either expand or shrink the board window.

  Hello, I am wondering if there's an elegant solution for doing this in Java (besides the obvious one - of declaring a different/explicit function. I don't have an idea about a more elegant solution beside doing another function which explicitly wants a HashMap<String, Integer> or HashMap<Buffer, Integer> parameter.   Okay guys, this is similar to my repeatEnd and wordEnds efforts; I want to solve this codingBat Warmup-2 question using only regex-based techniques as a "brain gymnastics" exercise. That is, if I want this (and I do!): assert last2("..+++...++") == 2; I'd have to uncomment the second .replaceAll. I'm just wondering if others can come up with a simpler, more elegant regex solution for this problem. Preferably one that doesn't contain octo-slashes.

  Hi, I've designed a table in html that uses tbody, tfoot and thead. I would like to put a border-bottom and border-top on my tbody. Which works perfectly well with Firefox and Google Chrome. However Internet Explorer 8 does not display the borders at all. After searching on the internet I haven't found any solution that did not involve some javascript; which I am not keen on using for that task. Has anyone faced this problem before and came up with a solution that does not require javascript? Ideally I wouldn't want to start messing around with the html too much, a solution just with css would be awesome. Thanks for that.

• Printing a PDF in .NET

  It's the "printing question guy" again. Looking for a third-party solution to print PDFs, preferable from a service. I have seen some arguments against it, but due to our use case, this really is the preferred solution - the service will be receiving messages from a messaging bus, and there shouldn't be any sort of delay between the receipt of that message and the printing of the report. So far, I've found 1 solution from PDF Tools that seems very nice, and very flexible. The problem is that it's licensed per server. If anyone knows of any third-party solutions that have a seat license (per developer, unlimited runtime distribution), that would be much preferred. EDIT: Clarification, by printing, I mean sending the PDF to a printer.

• Persist an object that is not marked as serializable

  Hi, I need to persist an object that is not marked with the serializable attribute. The object is from a 3rd party library which I cannot change. I need to store it in a persist place, like for example the file system, so the optimal solution would be to serialize the object to a file, but since it isn't marked as serializable, that is not a straight forward solution. It's a pretty complex object, which also holds a collection of other objects. Do you guys have any input on how to solve this? The code will never run in a production environment, so I'm ok with almost any solution and performance.

• How to limit / throttle bandwidth with *multiple* connections

  I'm writing an app in C# that downloads concurrently (in different threads) using multiple connections to multiple servers, and I'd like to be able to limit the used bandwidth. For a single connection the solution would be simple; I'd use the solution posted here : http://www.codeproject.com/KB/IP/Bandwidth_throttling.aspx which calculates a sleep-time for the single connection. I'd like to know what the best way is to do this for multiple connections. Using the ThrottledStream posted above and dividing the bandwidth (say 2MB/sec) evenly among the connections isn't right, if I'd have 3 very slow connections and 1 very fast one they'd all be capped to 512kb/sec, so the fast one won't go above 512kb/sec and the other 3 wouldn't even make that. The preferred solution I think is to cap only the fastest connection(s) so the slower connections are used optimally. Does anyone have any experience with this, example code or any advice ?

I dont have a really good, satisfactory solution to the problem of counting the client licenses yet. The key requirements are: Multiple instances (starts) of the same application (= process) should count as only one client licence Starting different applications of the software solution should also count as only one (the same) client licence Application crash should not lead to orphaned used licences The above should work also for Terminal Server environments (all clients same IP, but different install folders) I'm looking for estabilished patterns, solutions, tips for managing used client licenses. • Why does MSBuild fail from the command line where VS2008 succeeds?

  I have an ASP.NET solution that builds just fine from within VS2008. However , it fails when i do this : MSBUILD.exe c:\path-to-sln It fails with a CS0006 error ("Metadata file 'dll_name' could not be found"). It also fails when I try with a .csproj of a project within the solution. What is VS2008 doing that MSBuild is missing ? It is my understanding that VS knows about inter assembly dependencies that MSBuild cant. Is there any way I can inform MSBuild of these? (I need MSBuild to work from the command line because I am calling it from an MSBuild-Task from within CruiseControl.Net.)   When I try to run my first application with the debugger, I get a pop up which says: Visual C__ 2008 Express Edition This project is out of date: ProgName - Debug Win32 Would you like to build it? [Yes[ [No] [Cancel] [ ] Do not show this dialog again? I find this somewhat bothersome, because the very last thing that I did just before that was build the application. And the build did complete successfully (immediately before I clicked on Start Debugging -- F5.) The second time I pressed with wrong cilck on the Answer [No] on the same msg Now, I can't compile my apps What exactly does "do not show this dialog again" mean? It sounds to me like its going to remember my answer and use the same answer every time this situation occurs in the future. I did some stuffs like "Clean Solution" then "Build Solution" then "Start Debugging" ,but the same problem what's the solution ,how can I reset this message to make it work again .

• Using Java to retrieve the CPU Usage for Window's Processes

  Hello all, I am looking for a Java solution to finding the CPU usage for a running process in Windows. After looking around the web, there seems to be little information on a solution in Java. Keep in mind, I am not looking to find the CPU usage for the JVM, but any process running in Windows at the time. I am able to retrieve the memory usage in Java by using the exec("tasklist.exe ... ") to retrieve and parse process information. Although there is an aggregate CPU cycle timer for each process, I do not see a CPU usage column. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Also, if possible, I would like to stay away from C libraries; however, if there is no other alternative, a solution by that means would be appropriate. Thanks a lot, Steve

  Before making a commit, I prefer to run all hundred-something unit tests in my C# Solution, since they only take a couple minutes to run. However, if I've already run them all, all is well, and then I decide to organize the using directives in my Solution, is it really necessary to re-run the unit tests? I have a macro that goes through all files in the Solution and runs Visual Studio's 'Remove and Sort' command on each. In my understanding, so long as all projects still build after using directives are changed around, things should be fine at runtime, too. Is this correct thinking?

  What is the best way to handle following situation? A dropdown(for master table) is optional in a particular form. But, In database table the field is constrained with foreign key. If user don't select from dropdown then It creates problem because of foreign key. One solution is to create default option in master table and use it in case of blank selection. but in dropdown, we need to handle this to show on top. Is it perfect solution?
