• "Email This" button with sideways counter

  I've been asked to build a design that has a "share this" area like below: I've built every aspect except the Email part of it -- any idea how best to do that? I've found http://getmailcounter.com/, but that displays a counter above. I'd personally just do a link, but it seems they're wanting some sort of analytics built in... Failing that, does anyone know of some sort of sharing system that looks like that and has all of those options? I'd just use AddThis, but its designs don't look very close to that... Thanks! • Facebook connect And Yahoo.. How and what exactly happened? Is there way to import facebook friend's email id?

  Hello, I have seen that yahoo now enables their users to import facebook friend's email addresses into their yahoo addressbook. As far as i know, facebook doesn't allow any API to fetch email addresses of any user on external websites. I have also seen that Yahoo imports email addresses only when the friend's have chosen not to display their contact email to themselves only. Many people in the world trying to implement applications using facebook's API to import email addresses of friend's (Only those email addresses which are visible on user's facebook profile) but API calls always return NULL to their requests. So i would like to know what exactly happened between facebook and yahoo? Does facebook have provided any concessions to Yahoo's addressbook importer application to import facebook user's email addresses? Is there any working API/method/way available to fetch email addresses of facebook friends who have chosen to display their contact email ids on their profile with 1: only visible to friends, 2: visible to everyone privacy settings? I have also seen that, facebook API page clearly listen that email/contact_email field's can be fetched using FQL. Nevertheless there is no official explanation on this issue of returning NULL when email/contact_email is requested from any API call. Regards

• Download Speed is 0.12 Mbps when tested with servers in U.S, but it is 0.76 Mbps when tested with local servers, normal? [closed]

  Feeling that my ISP is cheating my money ( My subscription package is 1 Mbps), I did a speed test on my internet connection using www.speedtest.net. I tried to test the connection speed on two servers, one local ( Malaysia), another in U.S. I found that while the upload speed remain constant, but the download speed is different; 0.76 Mbps for servers in Malaysia, and 0.12 Mbps for servers in U.S. I called the ISP, and they blamed it on the intercontinental signal lost. But how can it be that the speed differs by that much? If it really differs by that much than we should always take a grain of salt of what is advertised as the broadband speed because the advertised speed is not the speed we are getting. No?

• Under an Xampp install, I modify the apache httpd-vhosts.conf file and then my Apache server will not start

  I have read all the articles but still must be doing something wrong... I modified the httpd-vhosts.conf file to access the project I am working on... I have tried many different configurations and none work. My apache service will not start (I am on Windows 7)... any ideas would be helpful - here is the code I added to the conf file: DocumentRoot "C:/xampp/htdocs" ServerName localhost DocumentRoot C:/xampp/htdocs/socengv1" ServerName socengv1.local I have also tried this with NameVirtualHost *:80 command with no difference to note.

  Through Amazon Associates, you can create search widgets that have a place for a search term. In the admin, you can set the default search term, but that seems to be tied to the widget ID. I would like to be able to dynamically set the search term for the widget when it is displayed. How can I accomplish this? • Robots.txt never downloaded but some blocked URLs in GWT

  There is something I don't understand in Google Webmaster Tools (GWT) for my Wordpress site. In menu "Blocked URLs", it mention that my robots.txt has never been downloaded but there are some blocked URLs. It's kind of weird and not logical. Am i missing something?   We have a PHP 5 web application and we're currently evaluating PHP CodeSniffer in order to decide whether forcing code standards improves code quality without causing too much of a headache. If it seems good we will add a SVN pre-commit hook to ensure all new files committed on the dev branch are free from coding standard smells. Is there a way to configure PHP codeSniffer to ignore a particular type of error? or get it to treat a certain error as a warning instead? • Buying a parked domain if the contact email bounces

  I'm trying to buy a domain which is parked, but the contact email address listed on the page itself bounces. I looked up the WHOIS data and there are no email addresses or phone numbers listed. There are way too many hits on facebook / linkedin to try just searching for the name. What recourses do I have to try to get into contact with the owner? UPDATE: Hosted on the same IP are 206 identical "parked" pages, whose sole difference is the domain and the email address (always "info@[domain].it"): http://www.bing.com/search?q=ip%3A151.1.48.220 Whois info shows contact information for none (that I sampled) but all with different names o_O

  I am using Ajax for processing with JQUERY. The Data_string is sent to my process.php page, where it is saved. Issue: right now anyone can directly type example.com/process.php to access my process page, or type example.com/process.php/var1=foo1&var2=foo2 to emulate a form submission. How do I prevent this from happening? Also, in the Ajax code I specified POST. What is the difference here between POST and GET?

  I'm looking for a way to force SSL and WWW. I've been able to force both separately but together I keep running into redirection issues. The following code works when handling a url in this format: "http://domain.com" and properly redirects to "https://www.domain.com" but when the incoming url is "https://domain.com" it will not forward to "https://www.domain.com" -- Any suggestions? How I would like the site to function: Families upload their information into profiles Au pairs do the same families can view a limited part of an au pairs' profile until they pay a deposit After deposit is payed, all au pairs' profile information becomes open to families Families can order au pairs and confirm their order with another payment payment must be made before 'order' is confirmed By 'order' I mean full communications become open between the family and the au pair they have 'ordered' as well as travel information being sent to another agency the site needs to be linked with a bank account (e.g paypal) and another agency, who will look after the flight bookings etc. A website already exists for this business however it just contains information on the business and application forms - if the site becomes fully automated it will relieve a lot of strain on administration in the office (dealing with applications, travel information etc.)

• Finding the right back-end developer

  I am creating a websites for mobile phone tests. Users can post their own tests and combine it with an existing rating of each product. I do only front-end development and I have no idea about back-end - php, sql, etc. I am not sure I should operate the website without this knowledge but my first thought is to get a professional whom I would give my website to, so that he can do the rest. Only thing is that I need to update it regularly and post my own tests. I don't know how that works and how I should approach this. My understanding is that, after I have finished the website (written in HTML, CSS, JavaScript/jQuery), I would go and find a php programmer and tell me to put it online, make it secure, make sure that the open-source facility (users post their own tests) and that it runs smoothly with the host/server I've chosen. Could you tell me if my approach makes sense (is that the way how to do it)? What should I consider when searching the right back-end developer concerning the right price performance, trust, etc. ?

• Is the Google Webmaster Tools verification temporary?

  When you add a site to Google Webmaster Tools, it asks you to verify it (e.g. via a <meta> tag). I verified a site a while ago, but when I logged in, I noticed that it isn't verified anymore. The history shows that it was verified 58 days ago, but then 30 days ago it tried and failed saying that "revierification failed". I'm not sure if this is a result of some setting I changed which required a reverification, or if Google Webmaster Tools periodically tries to verify the site. I was under the impression that the verification only happens once when you add the site, and then you can delete the <meta> tag. If this is not how it works, and it does reverify periodically, will it require a different <meta> tag value or can I keep the original one I used and never have to worry about it again?

  Possible Duplicate: Why would Google Rich Snippets work for one site author but not another? I'm facing one problem here. I made rich snippets - microdata for the website but google ignores all of them. Here is how it looks like in testing tool . It doesn't detect any errors. I've read that google ignores the microdata in hidden fields. Unfortunately this is partially the case since I use jquery to interact with the contect, but nevertheless it is not hidden everywhere and I believe that google should recognize at least the microdata visible to the user permanently. Am I missing something here? It is now about 3 weeks since I updated website with rich snippets.

• Author Bio on all pages - Is it duplicate content?

  In a website with user generated content, I provide a author bio under every article on the site. The author bio will be the same under every article the same author wrote. For some authors, the author bio is no longer then a couple of sentences, but for some descriptive writers, it is a good 100 words. These 100 words get repeated in almost 15 pages, some of them without substantial original content(such as haikus). Will this lead to duplicate content?

• Password-free logins using your email address only?

  The state of logins is horrendous. With each site having it's own rules for passwords, it can be very hard to remember what variation you used on any given site. Logins are pure pain. One thing I love about Craigslist is that it did away with logins altogether. I know this design may not suit every site, but there's something to their design that beckons to be repeated. OpenID is great on sites that have adopted it, but it's still not standard. Would it be feasible/wise to use an email address as a login and provide no password? The site would send a short-term key directly to your email address. You click on the link and you're in. When you're done, you "logout" and your key is terminated. I've toyed with this idea before. What concerns (i.e. spammers, bots, etc.) would make this impractical or unsafe and could they be overcome?

  I know i could program it myself but maybe there is a simple (thats the keyword) package. I like to add a box, snippet, form or page to my site for users to input their email address. Then i'd like it to automatically send email saying you have successfully subscribe. I'd want an unsubscribe link and i would be using smtp on google apps. I would like to send email with html so i can have a simple sentence with a complex link such as this I dont know if i'll get marked as spam if i try to send everyone an email at once? so i'd like the software to manage it. Also i'd like to get the emails in a simple format like csv. Is there a simple app that does this? if not i can write a simple form which does a simple insert (or delete when unsubscribing) and write a 200-300line app to send my emails out for me.

• CSS help positioning divs inline

  I need help with a recurring problem that happens a lot. I want to create a header that consists of 3 sections which are positioned inline. I display them inline using the following css code: display: inline & float: leftThe problem is that when I resize my browser window the last div is pushed down and isn't displayed inline. I know it sounds like I'm being picky, but I don't want the design to distort as the visitor change's the monitor screen. I have provided the html and css code below that I am working with below. • force users to activate account before using service?

  i am not sure if this is the correct SE site to post this, but ill go on... So at the moment i force my users to activate their account upon registration if they want to sign in. I see some decent sites let their users sign in and use their features even their account is not activated and just show a message on top of the page letting them know that their account is not yet activated and that you need to activate it. So which practice is best? Should i stick with that i have or change it?

• Rich text format area size in SDL Tridion 2011 SP1

  I've set a schema field to height 2 and see the following for the input area in Chrome and IE. I'm expecting to have text area that's 2 lines high based on the default text size. I removed the source view option, thinking the tab might affect the size, but it still appears to be about 5 lines in height instead of 2. It seems to match 2 lines if the text is set to a large font or to a heading. I'd like to minimize the size these fields take in the content entry form as well as hint that authors should enter a smaller amount of text. How do I make this match the expected 2 lines?

However, I want to put internal links on keywords in the blog posts to the tag and category pages in order for the readers to find more relevant content.   In case a person has many different social network profiles, what is the proper way of referring to those profiles in a work that is meant to be printed or may be viewed as an image? For example one owns the username "CoolCompany" on Facebook, Twitter, Google+ and other websites. Should they provide a URL for each profile? for example: Facebook.com/CoolCompany Twitter.com/CoolCompany ... I often notice that in videos or on TV people may only use the logos but I believe it is not very useful, specially in case that the audience are unfamiliar with a social network... I am starting to think about how the accompanying website will be hosted and would greatly appreciate some advice. Requirements: Domain #1 Information about the project itself (just pages and pictures). Documentation / Wiki Forums Download of project source (approx 3MB archive) Download of various themes and community contributed content (est. sizes 10KB ~ 512KB). Domain #2 Primary company website that offers products and services. This will be primarily pictures and pages. What kind of web hosting would be best for a project like this. I am working on a very tight budget and can only afford to spend up to £250 per year for hosting this. I was considering using some sort of VPS hosting.
