• Multiple Wi-Fi cards and Internet connections on Windows 7

  I have two Wi-Fi cards and two separate Internet connections. I connect to the Internet with both of them but one does all of the Internet transactions (and I have not seen any place where I can specify which one I would prefer to use!) What I would like to do is use one of them for the browser and Skype only, and the other one for stock exchange software for instance. Is this is possible?

• No internet on some devices, still on WiFi

  Ok, here's the situation. I live with 3 friends, and we often sit in the living room with laptops out. There's a WiFi router in the kitchen, and we have quite a stable connection. The issue, however, is this: sometimes, all of a sudden one of my friends loses internet connection. Even disconnecting/reconnecting to the WiFi network does not help. When we restart the router, though, it works like a charm again. The odd thing is, it happens just for this one Windows 7 laptop. We've switched routers (for a different reason) in the mean time, but the issue remained. This makes me suspect the laptop even more. I realise I've given little details, but I don't really know what to try/do. Any suggestions what it might be?

• Windows 7: Wi-Fi connection drops intermittently - only returns after "Troubleshoot connection" resets the adapter

  On our laptop (running Windows 7) the Wi-Fi connection drops intermittently. Symptoms: Connectivity is suddenly lost, and the "signal strenght" indicator in the tray shows zero strength and a yellow "star" symbol. What happens then: The problem does not resolve itself by just waiting. If I click on the tray icon, the "Windows network diagnostics" wizard pops up and tells me that there is a networking problem (duh). If I click on the "repair" button (not sure about the wording), the wizard works for a while, then reports that it has reset the network adapter. Then Wi-Fi works again. While the above procedure has worked every time so far, it is very annoying. It takes 10-20s to repair the connection, and in the meantime downloads, video streams etc. may have been aborted. Some more details: The problem occurs without any apparent regularity, but usually a few minutes after powerup (though not every time). It happens frequently enough to be annoying. It is unlikely to be a router problem - another laptop running at the same time usually has no Wi-Fi problems. I am at a loss about what to try to troubleshoot this. Any ideas?   My friend has a wifi network with an x-box, a wii, a playstation, and two nintendo portables. She's also got 2-3 PC's and a network printer. She's got a wifi repeater as well. She claims that she didn't have any issues for months with everything working together, and suddenly everything stopped disconnecting. I haven't been over there yet - wanted to figure out the best way to diagnose the thing. I asked her to send me the stats on the booster and the modem, etc: The booster is Netgear serial #2ac2195506b95 The modem is Cisco Linksys e1500 #10910c12129103 We have a sprint router thru centurylink and they said it is working fine 660 series

• PDAnet on Android IP on PC is not public IP. Where does the NAT take place, PDAnet or Verizon?

  When using PDAnet on a PC (Win7 ultimate) to USB tether a Motorola Droid on Verizon 3G the IP address of the PC appears to be public - 64.245.171.115 (64-245-171-115.pools.spcsdns.net) - but connections show as coming from another public IP - 97.14.69.212 (212-sub-97.14.69.myvzw.com). Someone is performing Network Address Translation - either PDAnet or within the Verizon 3G network. Can someone tell me who is doing the NAT? Is it PDAnet or is it at Verizon? Is there any possibility of setting up port forwarding, such that connections to the public IP 97.14.69.212 (212-sub-97.14.69.myvzw.com) are forward to the PC? We are testing a network protocol that requires either a true public IP or forwarding a range of ports from the public Internet to the system on which the software runs (actually Linux hosted by VMware Player or Workstation on a PC running Windows).

• Looking for a router with multiple WAN ports and load balancing

  I'm going to be moving in a few months. The location I'm moving to is great except it's on a road with very few people, so the internet access option is limited to DSL at 1.6Mbps down, 384kbps up. This is much slower than I'm used to. One option is to get at least two of the DSL lines. There's also good possibility that I'll be able to get WiMax or similar. I've been looking around a bit and it seems like what I need is a load balancing router with multiple WAN ports. Can anyone recommend some good ones? I could also go with a small power efficient Linux box with multiple NICs. What would be good software for that? It'd need to be able to handle around 10Mbps. Thanks for any help

• Windows doesn't get access to internet though linux easily does

  We have a very interesting problem. The network is configured in this way: internet is connected to Trendnet switch TS DHCP server at 192.168.0.1 running on Ubuntu (S) is connected to internet switch DNS is also configured on 192.168.0.1 on S D-Link Wi-Fi boosters are connected to switch TS PCs use D-Link PCI-E Wi-Fi cards to get access to network PCs have both Ubuntu and Windows 7 There are about 40 PCs. When PC is booted to Ubuntu it easily gets access to internet. But when it's booted to Windows 7, it gets a valid IP-address, but doesn't get access to internet. The address, mask, DNS, GW-address are totally the same as when it's booted under Ubuntu. The S is reacheble and pingable. Sometimes when we are lucky the PC gets access to Internet, but after rebooting it can lose it. When PC under Windows has access, it has totally the same settings as when it doesn't. What can be done? UPDATE I shared a dropbox with 2 captures of traffic. Ping.pcap is a capture of pinging 8.8.8.8. And google-browser.pcap is a capture of opening a google.com in a browser, both of them are in tcpdump formats and made by Wireshark on Win PC. The MAC of Win PC ends on b7:63 and IP is 192.168.0.130. • Wifi Works with Android and Windows 8 but not Linux and Win 7

  Support has told me that our company wide wifi network is setup to support mobile phones only. However it doesn't make sense to me that they can identify a mobile device rather they have setup the Access Point to use a protocol that is only supported on Android and Windows phones. Because the Access Point supports Windows mobile this means that laptops running Windows 8 can also connect to the Access Point (proven). So it stands to reason that since Android is based on Linux there must be a way to connect using Linux as well. iwlist shows IEEE 802.11i/WPA2 Version 1 Group Cipher : TKIP Pairwise Ciphers (2) : TKIP CCMP Authentication Suites (1) : 802.1x WIreshark seems to show that a connection is being made to a website to get a certificate and use a Domain Controller for authentication. Questions: 1) what protocol could they be using that is supported on Win Mobile and Android but not on Win 7 and Linux (Debian) ? 2) what tools can I use to help me discover what protocol i need to support ? I have used iwlist and wireshark but I was not able to glean to much useful information from them. I can post the results if needed. 3) is there an app i can use on my Android phone to help me understand what kind of network it is connecting to ? I can provide more information if you tell me how to get it. I just don't know what I am looking for.

  I'm writing this on a MacBook Air 13" (the ones just released), but I have a problem. BootCamp provides no easy way of turning off the bluetooth or wifi radios, and nor are there any hotkey combinations on the keyboard, nor any hard or soft switches on the body to toggle these radios. As I'll be travelling a lot with this machine, what's the best way for me to comply with the cabin service crews' instructions and disable the radios before takeoff, and reenable them after landing?

• Ubuntu Connect Button Disabled, cannot connect

  I'm trying to connect to my school network from Ubuntu 12. The network is WPA encrypted and I can connect just fine if the network manager establishes a connection automatically. However, when I get disconnected and try to reconnect a username and password prompt pops up. The credentials are already stored and are autofilled in correctly, but the Connect button is disabled so I can't actually connect to the network. What can I do? The only guess I've found so far is the password is too short and Ubuntu is expecting a full WPA key. I don't administer the school network though so I certainly can't change that.

• Unable to share internet by using HOSTEDNETWORK after installing AVAST recently

  I was able to share my laptop's internet with my smartphone by using this command "netsh wlan start hostednetwork". But when I installed Avast in my Windows 8 OS, I am able to start the hostednetwork as before and my smartphone also finds the virtual AP but still I can't use internet on the smartphone. It's like the internet sharing has been disabled by the Antivirus. How do I tell Avast that its okay to use the hostednetwork?

• How to link processing power of old computers together?

  I have a problem with internet connection- when i try to load website, it will always write this error:Error 101 (net::ERR_CONNECTION_RESET): Connection was reseted. I'm using Win7 64 bit and I have this router: asus rt n10. First, i tried to change MTU from 1504 to 1472 and it worked for a while, but yesterday it started again. Now I have MTU 1440 but I don't want to lower it more. Is there another solution? Btw I have no malware in my laptop (I used the avast scan) and I've also deleted cookies and disabled proxy server (I'm not using any).

  I have three SSID. one is a guest network and I'm having problems with lease times. Its set for web authentication so it passes IPs out even if someone doesn't try and authenticate. Is there a way to get that IP back and not hand another to that mac for a period of time? Poor planning and we didn't allocate enough address space, and we are sandwitched. We could go with another address, but we would have to reconfig lots. since its guest its vlan'd with no access to anthing but the firewalls. would have to change ACLs and routes and interfaces. if it isn't possible we will just have to go that route, just thought there might be an easier solution. session timeout is enabled with 1 hr lease time is set to 4 hrs. no helper DHCP and internal DHCP is set with the space split across three WLCs (60 waps split across those as well).

  Hello, Is there a way to configure my (D-Link DIR-615) router to throttle down the allowed bandwidth after a certain amount of bandwidth has been used? For instance, I want my router to operate normally up to 20GB. After 20GB I want the router to limit bandwidth to a fraction of the normal speed (perhaps 1/5th). I live in Canada, so in about a month, everyone is going to be billed based on the amount they used (usage based billing). Instead of the unlimited bandwidth that I am enjoying now, most people will be capped at 25GB and will have to fork out $2/GB of over usage. Thank you in advance for the help.

• Lost support for Web Access on Verizon BlackBerry World Edition

  Hello all, I believe that some silliness has occurred with my blackberry after a OS upgrade. I have 2010 Blackberry world edition phone, purchased off a friend who went iPhone, that at first worked with web on the Verizon network. When i connected it to my PC to transfer contacts, it prompted for an OS upgrade, which I performed. Post-Upgrade I have found that i can no longer access any of the web services: eg. AppWorld, Email, Twitter, Browser. And they all state that i need to upgrade my account to gain access. I had a Storm previous to this that worked fine, and at the VZ store they told me this device is no longer supported (new in 2010 though), and they got me a free "upgrade" to the Blackberry flip. What i could use help with is finding a source stating it is discontinued or a guide that will help me re-enable the web features. I can provide further info later if needed (currently at work with the flip, the WorldEdition is at home).

I have constant wifi signal range problems with some of my devices, but not with others. I guess it has better hardware or uses more power for transmission. This information is really important when you want to buy new device/computer, so my real question is: Can device wifi range can somehow be found/suggested from official hardware technical specification? If not Is there some web page with wifi range reviews?

  I can connect with my phone and use the browser as usual. On my laptop it won't connect when using windows 7 while in ubuntu it will connect, but with no internet. What is going on here and how can I get internet on my laptop ? [edit] It's a public wifi hotspot. I can connect with no issues at home. My network asapter is: Atheros AR5B97. And my phone is an iPhone 3G. The wizard's of no help since it asks me to check the router, which I can't since it's a public hostspot.

• Connect Ralink RT2571 to new PC

  I bought a new PC with the AsRock Z77 Extreme 4m motherboard, since this has no WLAN, I extracted the WLAN card from my old PC, a Ralink RT 2571 WF, an connected it to the new board. I downloaded the driver from http://www.ralinktech.com/en/04_support/support.php?sn=500 (the RT257x USB one) and installed it. In the device manager, an unknown device shows up, but if I tell it to search its driver, it does not find it (searching in the whole C partition). The Ralink Diagnostic Test says that the WLAN Card is disabled. I'm using Windows 7 64bit professional. Can anyone suggest me a solution to get my WLAN running?

• netbook losing internet connection

  I have a netbook that occassionally, usually once or twice a day, maybe more, will lose its internet connection while I am on Skype (that's when I notice it most, it may happen more often). The little yellow dot appears over the networking icon in the system tray, which when I click on it says no internet access at the top of the popup menu, and next to the router connection that I have. Disconnecting and reconnecting usually rectifies full internet access again. I'm not sure if leaving it for any amount of time allows the netbook to automatically reconnect again. Everything seems fine with my laptop. I don't think this loses connection in the same way. I'm using Windows 7 home premium.

• Problem with Macbook air automatically not acquiring free wifi network dns or router address

  I have this problem when my macbook air sometimes does not connect to free wifi hotspots. When the problem happens and I try to run the diagnostics, it normally gets to yellow network settings tab. It seems that it for some reason does not acquire automatically the router or dns address. Sometimes after I shut it down and restart it magically connects to the wifi hotspot but it is very inconsistent. Anyone knows a fix for this problem?
