  • I am currently serving my static files in Django. How do I use Apache2 to do this?

    - by alex
(r'^media/(?P<path>.*)$', 'django.views.static.serve',{'document_root': settings.MEDIA_ROOT}), As you can see, I have a directory called "media" under my Django project. I would like to delete this line in my urls.py and instead us Apache to serve my static files. What do I do to my Apache configs (which files do I change) in order to do this? By the way, I installed Apache2 like normal: sudo aptitude install apache2

  • Python web frameworks comparisons

    - by stupidLearner
I recently asked a question on SO about Python web frameworks: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/4909306/python-web-frameworks-vs-java-web-frameworks-how-is-web-development-in-python-do I want to learn one just for fun but it also has to be able to help me deliver a proper working application. I am looking for a framework with lots of features, powerful, mature, with large community, good documentation, books etc. I need something that will help me be more productive in developing my app and not waste time figuring out how to do a certain thing in the framework or how to write workaround around the limitations of the framework. I was thinking one of the following: django, zope, turbogears, pylons. Off course the war is raging out there and there are other alternatives but seems Django is at the top... or is it just hype? I am interested in pros and cons of each. What was the best feature you think the framework has? What is the thing it lacks? What could have been done differently. Help me chose one to learn for starters.

  • Execute code every hour

    - by Linger
I need to create a web service that executes every hour. It will be used to review data in a database and add alerts to a table in the same database if certain conditions are met/not met. What we currently have is: We have end devices that use Python to report to an Amazon Web Services (AWS) virtual server. The AWS server takes that information and stores it in a MySQL database. The AWS server is Linux running Django and Apache. I need to be able to have some python code run every hour that verifies the data that has been stored by the end devices. If certain conditions are not met then a record will be added to the alerts table in the database. We originally contracted to have the above setup created. I am new to Python, Django, and Apache. However, I have already made several changes to the Python code that sends and also receives the data from the end devices. I am a coder that is breaking into web programming. Does anyone have any recommendations on how I can do this?

  • Multiple sites with the same codebase in Python

    - by Jimmy
I am trying to run a large amount of sites which share about 90% of their code. They are simply designed to query an API and return the results. They will have a common userbase / database but will be configured slightly different and will have different CSS (perhaps even different templating). My initial idea was to run them as separate applications with a common library but I have read about the sites framework which would allow them to run from a single instance of Django which may help to reduce memory usage. https://docs.djangoproject.com/en/dev/ref/contrib/sites/ Is the site framework the right approach to a problem like this, and does it have real benefits over running separate applications? Initially I thought it was, but now I think otherwise. I have heard the following: Your SITE_ID is set in settings.py, so in order to have multiple sites, you need multiple settings.py configurations, which means multiple distinct processes/instances. You can of course share the code base between them, but each site will need a dedicated worker / WSGIDaemon to serve the site. This effectively removes any benefit of running multiple sites under one hood, if each site needs a UWSGI instance running. Alternative ideas of systems: https://github.com/iivvoo/django_layers https://github.com/shestera/django-multisite I don't know what route to be taking with this.

  • Social Network ( Help) [on hold]

    - by brunocascio
I am in a great "problem" so to speak , and I need opinions to decide. The problem is to create a social network without knowing the number of users who use it (but if thinking if they were sufficient ) . The question is which language and framework to use .... I do not mind having to learn new technologies and / or languages ??. I am among PHP ( Laravel - Symfony - other? ) Ruby ( Ruby on Rails 4? ) Javascript ( Ember , express, locomotive , other? ) Python ( Django ) Java ( Grails , Play, other?) I have experience in both PHP and frameworks. In Symfony developed part of it, but I got tired having to do a thousand configurations for all . I know very little about Ruby , but I saw very easy . I do not know are saying the performance. Javascript costs me to get used to their paradigm , and do not know if at all sure to cover everything with Javascript. Django and python ( very poor knowledge ) Java , experience in data structure and android , but not web . Regarding the / s databases: In my head I have to MongoDB and costs change of opinion by another database with respect to documentation and EASE performance . But .......... frameworks have no support at all clear . I also thought of mixing technologies for using a tecnlogía backend and the frontend other. As I read in the new social network Origo . They use Symfony for REST and javascript for the frontend . ( Backbone , Underscore and RequireJS ) What do you recommend me ?

  • PHP Session Class and $_SESSION Array

    - by Gianluca Bargelli
    Hello, i've implemented this custom PHP Session Class for storing sessions into a MySQL database: class Session { private $_session; public $maxTime; private $database; public function __construct(mysqli $database) { $this->database=$database; $this->maxTime['access'] = time(); $this->maxTime['gc'] = get_cfg_var('session.gc_maxlifetime'); session_set_save_handler(array($this,'_open'), array($this,'_close'), array($this,'_read'), array($this,'_write'), array($this,'_destroy'), array($this,'_clean') ); register_shutdown_function('session_write_close'); session_start();//SESSION START } public function _open() { return true; } public function _close() { $this->_clean($this->maxTime['gc']); } public function _read($id) { $getData= $this->database->prepare("SELECT data FROM Sessions AS Session WHERE Session.id = ?"); $getData->bind_param('s',$id); $getData->execute(); $allData= $getData->fetch(); $totalData = count($allData); $hasData=(bool) $totalData >=1; return $hasData ? $allData['data'] : ''; } public function _write($id, $data) { $getData = $this->database->prepare("REPLACE INTO Sessions VALUES (?, ?, ?)"); $getData->bind_param('sss', $id, $this->maxTime['access'], $data); return $getData->execute(); } public function _destroy($id) { $getData=$this->database->prepare("DELETE FROM Sessions WHERE id = ?"); $getData->bind_param('S', $id); return $getData->execute(); } public function _clean($max) { $old=($this->maxTime['access'] - $max); $getData = $this->database->prepare("DELETE FROM Sessions WHERE access < ?"); $getData->bind_param('s', $old); return $getData->execute(); } } It works well but i don't really know how to properly access the $_SESSION array: For example: $db=new DBClass();//This is a custom database class $session=new Session($db->getConnection()); if (isset($_SESSION['user'])) { echo($_SESSION['user']);//THIS IS NEVER EXECUTED! } else { $_SESSION['user']="test"; Echo("Session created!"); } At every page refresh it seems that $_SESSION['user'] is somehow "resetted", what methods can i apply to prevent such behaviour?

  • Load balancing and sessions

    - by vtortola
Hi there, What is the better approach for load balancing on web servers? My services run in .NET and Mono, so they could be hosted on IIS or Apache2, and the will have to provide SSL connection. I've read two main approaches, store the state in a common server and use sticky sessions, there is any other else? I've read 3 diffent things about sticky sessions: 1)the load balancing device will know with which server did you start the connection and all the further connections from that host will be routed to the same server. 2)the load balancing devide read a cookie named: JSESSIONID 3)the load balancing devide read a cookie named: ASPSESSIONID I'm a little bit confused, what will happen exactly? As the connections will be SSL there is not a chance for the load balancing devide of read the cookies, so then what? About store the estate in a common server, what solutions do you know? I've read memcache is a good solution but is there any other else? Cheers.

  • Lighting Fast CMS, a Django based CMS. Any experiences?

    - by Melmacian
I've just came across Lighting Fast CMS, which seems to be very promising Django based content management system. Documentation seem to be very good, even though it is still in beta stage. It also has very nice buildout based installation. Also core Components of it seem to be nicely decoupled. Does anyone have any experiences with it yet? How much one can customize it with extensions? How's extension development in general compared to Drupal or Plone? I'm hoping that I could do some projects with it instead of Plone or Drupal. Those both are great, but extending them ain't too nice. The project can be found here: http://www.lfcproject.com/

  • Michael Hartl's rails tutorial: reusing sessions resource for multiple User types

    - by ntaj
I'm learning Ruby on Rails through Micheal Hartl's tutorial. In my web application, I require two types of Users, called publishers and subscribers. Currently I have a publishers resource and a subscribers resource. I'd like both of them to be able to use the sessions resource for signin/signout. I'm looking for some direction on how to implement this. Should my publisher and subscriber resource inherit from the User resource, so that, for example, the following code works through polymorphism? def create user = User.find_by_email(params[:session][:email]) if user && user.authenticate(params[:session][:password]) # Sign the user in and redirect to the user's show page. else # Create an error message and re-render the signin form. end end The publisher and subscriber do not have many common fields and different capabilities, so I think they should be modeled as two separate resources, but how to have them share the Sessions resource?

  • Java,Tomcat,Sessions - JSessionId disappear

    - by Bob
Hi, I'm having a problem with java sessions. I'm developing a simple web app, where I have to use sessions and session attributes. Everything is fine until I close my browser. When I close my browser the JSessionId disappears. Here's my code: request.getSession().setMaxInactiveInterval(30*60); //it's 30 minutes request.getSession().setAttribute("someinteger", 10); It works great, but when I shut down the browser, and reopen it I can't find the jsessionId (before I closed the browser I could find it in the 'localhost' section). The strange thing is I can still find the "someinteger" cookie. What is the problem? What am I doing wrong? I'm using this, too: link text, and it shows that JSESSIONID cookie expires : "SESSION", and "someinteger" expires in 30 minutes Thanks in advance.

  • Spring Webflow in Grails keeping plenty of hibernate sessions open

    - by Pavel P
Hi, I have an Internet app running on Grails 1.1.2 and it integrates Spring WebFlow mechanism. The problem is that there are some bots ignoring robots.txt and are entering the flow quite often. Because second step of the flow needs some human intelligence, the bot leaves open flow after the first step. This causes a lot of open flows which leades to a lot of abandoned open hibernate sessions. Do you know some common clean-up mechanism for this kind of unattended flows (plus hibernate sessions) in Grails+Spring WebFlow? Thanks, Pavel

  • PHP voting system with sessions?

    - by pingu
Hi guys, I've been reading up on stackoverflow about creating voting systems in PHP that minimize abuse/multiple voting from the same user, but I haven't come across the answer to my question. I've got an application where users don't need to register to vote or "like" an entry. Obviously, I want to minimize abuse and I don't want to limit votes per IP address because some organisations (mine included) use shared IP addresses. I've never used sessions in a non-authenticated system before, but since this application is centered around entry votes I was wondering if this approach would work and whether there were any disadvantages such as performance implications, and whether it's even possible to use sessions in this way: start a session when the website is loaded allow one vote per item per session If this is a bad idea, my alternative options would be to allow a reasonable number of votes per IP address (say 25), or put a time limit between votes from the same IP address. What do you guys recommend?

  • Python/Django: Which authorize.net library should I use?

    - by Parand
I need authorize.net integration for subscription payments, likely using CIM. The requirements are simple - recurring monthly payments, with a few different price points. Customer credit card info will be stored a authorize.net . There are quite a few libraries and code snippets around, I'm looking for recommendations as to which work best. Satchmo seems more than I need, and it looks like it's complex. Django-Bursar seems like what I need, but it's listed as alpha. The adroll/authorize library also looks pretty good. The CIM XML APIs don't look too bad, I could connect directly with them. And there are quite a few other code snippets. What's the best choice right now, given my fairly simple requirements?

  • How to persist a very abstract data type between sessions: PHP

    - by Greelmo
I have an abstract data type that behaves much like stack. It represents a history of "graph objects" made by a particular user. Each "graph object" holds one or more "lines", a date range, keys, and a title. Each "line" holds a sql generator configured for a particular subset of data in my db. I would like for these "histories" to be available to users between their sessions. It will be in the form of a tab that reads something like "most recent graphs". What do you believe to be the best way to persist this type of data between sessions. This application could get rather large, so efficiency is a concern. Thanks in advance.

  • In Django how display all of the values aftere the for loop is finished instead of displaying them one by one

    - by Igor
Hello, In my django project in the view I call the last 6 values in the column and send them to the template. I then would like to pass into google charts api those 6 values and have a graph. At the moment for some reason I get 6 different graphs. {% for foodbag in foodbags %} <img src="http://chart.apis.google.com/chart?chxl=0:|0|1|2|3|4|5|6&chxr=2,0,0&chxs=0,1,676767,10.5,1,l,676767|2,676767,5.5,0,l,676767&chxt=x,y&chs=300x170&cht=bvg&chco=76A4FB&chd=t:{{foodbag.12}},0&chma=0,5|5,5&chdlp=t&chtt=Food+Bags"/> {% endfor %} I'm not sure how to replace string chd=t:{{foodbag.12}}, with the 6 values I am trying to extract from foodbags. I would really appreciate the help. Thank you

  • Help with Django localization--doesn't seem to be working. Nothing happens

    - by alex
Can someone help me with Localization? I put {% trans "..." %} in my template, I filled in my django.po after running "makemessages". #: templates/main_content.html:136 msgid "Go to page" msgstr "¦~C~Z¦~C¦¦~B¦¦~L~G¦~Z" #: templates/main_content.html:138 msgid "Page" msgstr "¦~C~Z¦~C¦¦~B¦" #: templates/main_content.html:154 msgid "Next" msgstr "?" Then, I set LANGUAGES={} in my settings.py along with "gettext lambda": gettext = lambda s: s LANGUAGES = ( ('de', gettext('German')), ('en', gettext('English')), ('ja', gettext('Japanese')), ) Of course, I installed the LocaleMiddleware. I also set the request.session['django_language'] = "ja" How do I test that this is working? How do I see japanese on my site!?

  • Any thoughts on A/B testing in Django based project?

    - by Maddy
We just now started doing the A/B testing for our Django based project. Can I get some information on best practices or useful insights about this A/B testing. Ideally each new testing page will be differentiated with a single parameter(just like Gmail). mysite.com/?ui=2 should give a different page. So for every view I need to write a decorator to load different templates based on the 'ui' parameter value. And I dont want to hard code any template names in decorators. So how would urls.py url pattern will be?
