I want to be able to set a class variable in another model that lists each inherited model class. i.e @@groups = sub_models.map do { |model| model.class.to_s } Not sure how to get at this info though...

  • Get parent attribute within new child form?

    I have a simple Rails 3 application and I am trying to create a new record that belongs to it's owner. It's working by passing the id to a hidden field in the new form of the child record. This works well and once the new child form submitted it correctly gets associated in the child/parent relationship. What I am trying to do, is lookup values form the parent within the new child form. The problem is that the child relationship is not yet created. Is there anyway I can use a .where lookup in the view? Or, is there a better way of doing this? At the moment I am passing the animal_id though to the new Claim form and it's inserted into a hidden field labelled animal_id. What I am trying to do: <%= @animal.where(:animal_id => params[:animal_id]).id %> The above would ideally get the animal ID from the soon-to-be-associated animal. Is there any sort of before_filter or anything that could take the passed params from the URL and temporarily create the relationship just for the new form view and then permanently create the relationship once the form is submitted? I've tried adding the following to my Claims controller and then called @animal.AnimalName in the view but I get NoMethodError: before_filter :find_animal protected def find_animal if params[:animal_id] Animal.find(params[:animal_id]) end end The URL of the new claim is correctly showing the animal ID so I'm not sure why it's not finding it: http://localhost:3000/claims/new?animal_id=1 The model relations are as follows: animal has_many claims animal has_one exclusion claim has_one animal exception has_one animal

  • cakePHP, multiple hasOne in a single model

    say you have 3 models : user, hair_color, and eye_color user hasOne hair_color user also hasOne eye_color however var $hasOne = 'hair_color'; var $hasOne = 'eye_color'; obviously wont work. So how do you implement many hasOne relationships in a single model? I assume the answer is in the cookbook, Im going over that area now, I suspect it has something to do with passing an array to $hasOne, but no example of doing this.

  • Dynamic Views based on view models

    I have an asp.net mvc 2 app. I need to display the same page to each user. But each user has different rights to the data. IE some can see but not edit some data, some cannot edit nor see the data. Ideally data that cannot be seen nor edited is whitespace on the view. For security reasons I want my viewmodels to be sparse as possible. By that I mean if a field cannot be seen nor edited , that field should not be on the viewmodel. Obviously I can write view for each view model but that seems wasteful. So here is my idea/wishlist Can I decorate the viewmodel with attributes and hook into a pre render event of the html helpers and tell it to do &nbsp; instead??? Can I have the html helpers output &nbsp; for entries not found on the viewmodel?? or can I easily convert a view built into code then programaticlly build the markup and then put into the render engine to be processed and viewd as html on client side??

  • VS 2010 SQL Update for SQL Statement

    Please bear with me as I'm just beginning to learn this stuff. I have a VS 2010 Web project up and I'm trying to understand how I can make a custom UpdateCommand (Because I chose to write my own SQL statement, I do not have the option for VS 2010 to auto generate an update command for me.) Problem is: I don't know what the UpdateCommand should look like. Here is my Select: SELECT * FROM Dbo.MainAsset, dbo.Model, dbo.Hardware WHERE MainAsset.device = Hardware.DeviceID AND MainAsset.model = Model.DeviceID Which, VS 2010 turns into: SELECT MainAsset.pk, MainAsset.img, MainAsset.device, MainAsset.model, MainAsset.os, MainAsset.asset, MainAsset.serial, MainAsset.inyear, MainAsset.expyear, MainAsset.site, MainAsset.room, MainAsset.teacher, MainAsset.FirstName, MainAsset.LastName, MainAsset.Notes, MainAsset.Dept, MainAsset.AccountingCode, Model.Model AS Hardware, Model.pk AS Model, Model.DeviceID, Hardware.Computer, Hardware.pk AS Expr3, Hardware.DeviceID AS Expr4 FROM MainAsset INNER JOIN Hardware ON MainAsset.device = Hardware.DeviceID INNER JOIN Model ON MainAsset.model = Model.DeviceID How would I approach updating one column, say "MainAsset.site" if that's changed in the Gridview DDL?   • Multiple controllers with a single model

    I'm setting up a directory application for which I need to have two separate interfaces for the same Users table. Basically, administrators use the Users controller and views to list, edit, and add users, while non-admins need a separate interface which lists users in a completely different manner. To do this, would I be able to just set up another controller with different views but which accesses the Users model? Sorry if this is a simple question, but I've had a hard time finding how to do this.

  • Array structure returned by Yii's model

    I am a Yii beginner and am running into a bit of a wall and hope someone will be able to help me get back onto track. I think this might be a fairly straight forward question to the seasoned Yii user. So here goes... In the controller, let's say I run the following call to the model- $variable = Post::model()->findAll(); All works fine and I pass the variable into the view. Here's where I get pretty stuck. The array that is returned in the above query is far more complex than I anticipated and I'm struggling to make sense of it.     I keep getting an error the reads: "Excel found unreadable content in "Book.xlsm". Do you want to recover the contents of this workbook?.................". When I click "Yes" it removes the vba macro from my workbook.   • problem when view the super block in ext3 file system

    I tried to view the superblock by command "dd" in ext3 file system. dd if=/dev/sda3 bs=4096 skip=1 count=1 of=superblock But the result in superblock file is not correct(I compare the value of Inodes count I got from dumpe2fs). The device file /dev/sda3 is started at the boot block and then the superblock of the group0? And another question is the boot block and superblock's size are both BLOCKSIZE(here is 4096)? The disk format of ext2/ext3(I think they are the same) are shown below:

In dual computer screen & tv view, Is there any option to: enable mouse to work only in the computer screen? send windows to the TV instead of dragging them? when opening a program, is there any option to by default open it on the computer screen and not in the TV?
