• What Software or tool to ease the building of an eye catching GUI (functional) [closed]

  I want to make a control panel that opens different files but I'm not sure what would be the right tool/Sw to make this. In the company we have about 30 files that we use almost every day. They are all related to each other. I would like to create a "Control panel" to ease the opening and searching of these files. Kind of a control panel with 30 buttons. The only duty of this control panel is to open one of the file selected by the user. I need this "Control Panel" to: Look GREAT Open very fast Could you please recomend me some tool/Sw to acomplish this. What tool or SW is specially focused to make stunning GUIs? Note: In the company We are all using MS Windos 7. Thanks for the help! EDIT: This would be a Stand alone program installed or saved in a network drive. Each person can open the porgram and it pops the GUI. Not for the web. "Looks GREAT" is definitively a subjective matter. I want something that gives me plenty options to display/modify the objetcs that compose the GUI. So i can experiment and find what looks and works the best.

  Name's Vlad and I am currently on my third year of Community College, studying Computer Science with emphasis on Programming in C++ and Networking. I have completed a few programming courses with general ease, but have not gained advanced understanding of programming through school. None of my friends are serious programmers working in the industry. Being an active lurker on many programming websites, and in general tech oriented sites I have noticed how little I know about the industry, the lingo and terminology. (I have no clue how Git hub works, but I generally understand what its for). So I am looking for help as to where I should look for information on the programming world and the industry in which I a very interested. By that I mean, what sites I should utilize to gain information on programming practices, introduction to advanced C++ and resources that simply introduce a 20some programming noob. I like programming, but I haven't dug my hands deep into it yet, I want to start to do so before I transfer to a University.   In my workplace I have a coworker who have been working in the company for 3 years (1 more than me) doing stuff surrounding to software development but not software development. We need to run a new project in C and we have a lot of professional disagreements that in my opinion are caused by too much pride to his skill. For example he strives to insert code unnecessary code generation using C macros as possible instead of writing the same C code with the correct separations to functions. I tried to explain to him why inline function are a better replacement for C macros but he said to me that he knows better than gcc how to inline a function. How can I handle such a person?

  I'm creating a card game, and wish to offer players to choose from different sets of playing cards. The game logic remains the same, only the design and graphics on the cards would be different. It would feature classic French set, German/Hungarian one, and a bunch of other custom designed ones. I'm looking for some cool names to give to those sets. I thought maybe to use names of some world cities like "London set", "Paris set", "Tokyo set", but there might be something better. I know this is really open-ended question, so there might not be a definitive "correct" answer, but I hope this kind of brainstorming would be useful to anyone looking for ideas to name a set of... well, anything. I'll up-vote any good idea, no matter if I don't end up using any of those.

  I'm needing to start hacking around the Citrix SDK and am trying to figure out where to start. I'm wanting to basically find a way to pass data from the client to the server and figure out how to open an application on the citrix client. I see there is a XenApp SDK, and Virtual Channel SDK but really don't know which one I need to start with. I have a Citrix development virtual server set up, but am unsure how to get started. • ISO 12207 - testing being only validation activity? [closed]

  Possible Duplicate: How come verification does not include actual testing? ISO norm 12207 states that testing is only validation activity, while all static inspections are verification (that requirement, code.. is complete, correct..). I did found some articles saying its not correct but you know, it is not "official". I would like to understand because there are two different concepts (in books & articles): 1) Verification is all testing except for UAT (because only user can really validate the use). E.g. here OR 2) Verification is everything but testing. All testing is validation. E.g. here Definitions are mostly the same, as Sommerville's: The aim of verification is to check that the software meets its stated functional and non-functional requirements. Validation, however, is a more general process. The aim of validation is to ensure that the software meets the customer’s expectations. It goes beyond simply checking conformance with the specification to demonstrating that the software does what the customer expects it to do It is really bugging me because I tend to agree that functional testing done on a product (SIT) is still verification because I just follow the requirements. • How Do Computers Work? [closed]

  This is almost embarrassing ask...I have a degree in Computer Science (and a second one in progress). I've worked as a full-time .NET Developer for nearly five years. I generally seem competent at what I do. But I Don't Know How Computers Work! Please, bare with me for a second. A quick Google of 'How a Computer Works' will yield lots and lots of results, but I struggled to find one that really answered what I'm looking for. I realize this is a huge, huge question, so really, if you can just give me some keywords or some direction. I know there are components....the power supply, the motherboard, ram, CPU, etc...and I get the 'general idea' of what they do. But I really don't understand how you go from a line of code like Console.Readline() in .NET (or Java or C++) and have it actually do stuff. Sure, I'm vaguely aware of MSIL (in the case of .NET), and that some magic happens with the JIT compiler and it turns into native code (I think). I'm told Java is similar, and C++ cuts out the middle step. I've done some mainframe assembly, it was a few years back now. I remember there were some instructions and some CPU registers, and I wrote code....and then some magic happened....and my program would work (or crash). From what I understand, an 'Emulator' would simulate what happens when you call an instruction and it would update the CPU registers; but what makes those instructions work the way they do? Does this turn into an Electronics question and not a 'Computer' question? I'm guessing there isn't any practical reason for me to understand this, but I feel like I should be able to. (Yes, this is what happens when you spend a day with a small child. It takes them about 10 minutes and five iterations of asking 'Why?' for you to realize how much you don't know)

  I have a class inside a main class : static class Graph{ static int u, v, cost; } I have instantiated an arraylist of the class: static List<Graph> g = new ArrayList<Graph>(); And I insert several values into the arraylist like this: Scanner input = new Scanner(System.in); for (int i = 0; i < edge_no; i++) { Graph e = new Graph(); e.u = input.nextInt(); e.v = input.nextInt(); e.cost = input.nextInt(); g.add(e); } And I print it like this: for (int i = 0; i < edge_no; i++) { System.out.println(g.get(i).u + " " + g.get(i).v + " " + g.get(i).cost); } But the problem is that, when I print it, only the last value is shown all the time.It seems that, all the previous values are over-written with it. Input : 1 2 5 1 3 8 2 3 9 Output: 2 3 9 2 3 9 2 3 9 Expected output is just like the input.But I can't fix the problem as I am novice in java.

• Finding the displacment of a robot [closed]

  I'm building a quadruped (4 legs 3 DOF) for my major work in electronics at high school. I need to know the displacement of the robot and I can't use an encoding wheel. I've done my research and I found a system where I use an accelerometer, gyroscope and a magnetometer to determine the displacement but I'm not sure how to code it. I'm using Arduino and will use compatible sensors. I would like to be able to implement something similar to this video which demonstrates the principles evaluated in this paper. I don't need to map the data on a screen, just be able to read its displacement from its last recorded position. EG. (Read Position) --- (Do "stuff") --- (Read Position) --- (Calculate displacement caused by "stuff")

• Web hosting company basically forces me to use their domain name [closed]

  I've recently stumbled upon an unusual problem with one of hosting companies called giga-international.com. Anyway, I've ordered com.hr domain from Croatian domain name registration company, and my client insisted on using this host provider as couple of his friends already are hosted with them. I thought something was fishy when the first result on Google for Giga International was this little forum rant instead of their webpage. When I was checking their services they listed many features etc... space available, bandwidth etc. I just wanted to check how much ram do I get for my PHP scripts so I emailed them, and they told me that was company secret. Seriously? Anyway, since my client still insisted on hosting with them I've bought their Webspace package. During registration I had to choose free domain name because I couldn't advance registration without it. Nowhere was said, not even in general terms and conditions that I wouldn't be able to change that domain name. At least not for double the price of domain name per year. They said I can either move my domain name over to them (and pay them domain registration), or pay them 1 Euro per month for managing a DNS entry. On any previous hosting solution I was able to manage my domain names just by pointing my domain to their name servers, and this is something completely new and absurd for me. They also said that usual approach is not possible because of security and hardware limitations. I'd like to know what you guys think about this case, and should I report, and where should I report this case. In short. They forced me to register free domain name which doesn't suit my needs in order to register for their webspace package, and refuse to change domain name for my account until I either transfer domain to them or pay them DNS management which costs double the price of the domain name per year.

  Possible Duplicate: I cannot reach my deadline. What to do? My manager is a very deadline specific person. Even though I am a trainee, he insists on a deadline for every small assignment that he gives. Now it so happens that I miss the deadline. And boy, he doesn’t like that at all!   Need to provide memory and IRQ resources to the Linux kernel in order to bring up the CAN controller. Have no idea how to get them. Below is the structure I need to fill in. This structure I have taken for example, this is for the Run-Time Clock, but I need for CAN controller. Both are on the same board, and there are constants for RT Clock (and all other devices), but not for my CAN chip.
