  • Reduce the I/O priority of Windows Backup (Windows Server 2008 R2)

    I have a PostgreSQL running on Windows Server 2008 R2 x64 box. And I have scheduled a backup everyday from the RAID 1 DB disk to a dedicated standalone disk. They are SAS 15k on Dell PERC 6i. I am using the built-in Windows Server Backup for purpose. The problem is, whenever the backup process is kicked in, the database performance is hogged. I would say almost a 10x of performance reduction. From the resource monitor, the disk queue is in the double digit range when backing up, and less than 1 during the day. The disk activity is like ~30-50MB/s during backup, so I guess the hardware is acting normally, though wbengine.exe takes up most of the portions. I think reduce the IO priority of the backup process would be an answer, but I couldn't find a way to. Tuning process CPU priority does not seems to help.

    Is there a way to completely remove Mac OS X from MacBook Pro and replace it with Windows 7? I’m not talking about Boot Camp, I’m talking about completely wiping disk of any files and partitioning it for Windows installation. Any BIOS, booting, compatibility problems? I know it’s rare to replace Mac OS X for Windows, but I have this one situation where this is needed so I would appreciate any help. Thanks!

I have a secondary SAS drive where all my website files are with the following properties: NTFS File System Allow files on this drive to have contents indexed in addition to file properties IS CHECKED Simple Layout Basic Type Healthy (Page File, Primary Partition) Status I have 3 folders on this drive: Folder 1: 4GB Folder 2: 2GB Folder 3: 20GB (These are the sizes of them when I click properties) But the drive says it only has 10GB left out of 65GB. Why? I'm trying to make more room on this drive.

    Hello, I have an win 2008 R2 machine (a home machine of mine) that I am messing around with and learning the server technologies. I also wanted to try out oracle, and was wondering if its possible to setup a LINUX machine with Oracle, and have the two interoperate. What I mean by that is if I setup the server and my laptop on a domain, would it be possible to communicate to that LINUX machine and thus the Oracle database, and if so, are there any good resources on the setup? I was going to create a LINUX hyper v virtual... Any tips appreciated. Thanks.

    I am going to install a new SQL server 2008 instance on my development/testing machine. My machine have one 7200rpm 500GB SATA Disk (C:OS) and one Intel X25-G2 80GB SSD(D:). Details machine config is as follow: CPU:i7 860 RAM:8GB Microsoft said I have an option to place following directories in different disk. So I plan to place User database & Temp DB on SSD and rest of it on traditional disk. Is it a good choice for gaining a performance boost in fast SSD?   • 2nd Bootable partition P2V conversion

    I have a dual boot machine (Win7 RC and Win2008) and want to migrate one of the partitions (Win2008) into a Virtual Hard Drive and the be able to use it in VPC or Virtual Server (not Hyper-V).   • Cannot Access a Shared Folder Using Windows 2008

    Hi All, I have a NAS drive, and this is sharing some folders. I cannot access those folders from a windows 2008 machine which is on the network. The are both connected to the same network switch. e.g. if I go like this, \\server\ or \\server\folder I get the message 'windows cannot access \\server check the spelling, click diagnose' etc. Error code: 0x80004005 The thing is that I can connect to this shared drive from a windows 7 laptop connected wirelessly to the same network. I can ping the server from windows 2008, but only if I use the IP address, not the server name.

  • Should I use Windows deployment server to deploy Windows 7?

    Hi all, I've installed the Windows Deployment Server role on to Windows 2008 R2, I've found the Windows PE .wim file from the Windows 7 AIK and added it to my deployment server. On a client I can now do a network boot and have the Windows PE image load, now on my previous Windows 2003 Deployment Server I'd type WDSCapture and upload the Windows client to the server but WDSCapture is no longer present. Am I missing something? Should I be using Windows Deployment Server for Windows 7? Many thanks Scott

Let me know which one of the following is your favorite article from memory lane. 2007 Convert Text to Numbers (Integer) – CAST and CONVERT If table column is VARCHAR and has all the numeric values in it, it can be retrieved as Integer using CAST or CONVERT function. List All Stored Procedure Modified in Last N Days If SQL Server suddenly start behaving in un-expectable behavior and if stored procedure were changed recently, following script can be used to check recently modified stored procedure. If a stored procedure was created but never modified afterwards modified date and create a date for that stored procedure are same. Count Duplicate Records – Rows Validate Field For DATE datatype using function ISDATE() We always checked DATETIME field for incorrect data type. One of the user input date as 30/2/2007. The date was sucessfully inserted in the temp table but while inserting from temp table to final table it crashed with error. We had now task to validate incorrect date value before we insert in final table. Jr. Developer asked me how can he do that?   • How to correct time on Windows PDC server without affecting logons

    I know how to set an authoritative time server in Server 2008 R2. That's not what this question is. I want to know how I can change the time on a network where the PDC (and therefore everything) is a month out of date? I know that a 5 minute difference in time between clients and the domain prevents logons, so just changing the time on the PDC will break everything. What is the best way to fix this? Thanks Kieran.

  • Remote connection to SQL server doesn't use the instance name

    I have a web server with SQL express 2008 installed. I was trying to connect to this from my local machine using SSMS. After enabling TCP/IP in SQL configuration manager, starting SQL browser service and opening up the firewall I still couldn't connect using xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx\sqlexpress as the server name. Finally out of frustration I tried to connect taking off the sqlexpress instance name to just xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx and it worked! I'm really at a loss here as to why this works. What would happen if I installed more instances of SQL?

  • Windows Server 2003 Hacked - Files Being Uploaded

    Blank directories are being created on my Windows Server 2003 virtual server with sub directories that are weird (for example: "88ÿ ÿ ÿÿþþ þþ13þ"). It looks like they are uploading bootlegged DVDs and pirated software. All of my bandwidth and file space is being eaten up. Could this be a shared permissions issue? Where should I look to further investigate this? My security permissions for the directory that is being hit are as followed: Administrators - ALL GRANTED IIS_WPG - Read & Execute, List Folder Contents, Read Internet Guest - DENY SYSTEM - ALL GRANTED Users - Read & Execute, List Folder Contents, Read My Event Viewer is showing many Logon/Logoff with NO IP?

    Hello, I have a fresh Server 2008 R2 installation that cannot load a basic HTML or ASP file. I can however load .jpg and .gif images, so I know the file paths are setup correctly. ModuleName IIS Web Core Notification 16 HttpStatus 404 HttpReason Not Found HttpSubStatus 0 ErrorCode 2147942402 ConfigExceptionInfo Notification MAP_REQUEST_HANDLER ErrorCode The system cannot find the file specified. (0x80070002) Not sure what this is, any ideas?

  • Installing Sql Server 2005 SP2 - Getting error on analysis services component

    At first many of the components didn't install and I followed this workaround (fixing user/SID mappings in registry.) After that everything installed successfully except for analysis services. I am getting the exact same error message as before on analysis services. (Are there other users installed by sql server I'm not aware of perhaps?) Do you guys have any ideas? All of my searches seem to just point to that workaround above that I already did.   • How to fix monitor detection on Windows 7?

    Hi, I'm using Windows 7 + Windows Media Center for my HTPC. It works great except from one annoying issue. Whenever I turn off my TV while listening the music, the music stop for a second or while Windows 7 tries to figure out what monitor is attached. After that second it settles down on a default 800x640. While not a big deal, it is annoying as I don't want to have the TV on while playing music. Is there anyway to fix the monitor/disable monitor auto-detection on Windows 7 so it would not start recalibrating everything when I turn off my TV? Thanks, Boaz

Or Can this query be optimised? Any setting in SQL Server 2000?
