• How do I use CSS to add a non-rectangular border around an image?

  Hello people, I have three images, and they are not square or rectangular in shape. They are just like face of anyone. So, basically, my images are in the size 196x196 or anything like that, but complete square or rectangle with the face in the middle and transperant background in the rest of the portion. Now, I want to remove the transperant background too and just keep the faces. Don't know if this is possible and mind you, this isn't a programming question. EDIT (from comments): How do I put a border around the shape of the image, not a rectangular one around the boundary, using CSS.

• Custom format document option in visual studio. Formatting CSS tags.

  Hi, When i work in VS2008, i use the Ctrl+K+D very often as it saves a lot of time. But in CSS files, this command formats the document in a way i don't quite like. For example when i auto format the document, .Foo { width:1px; height:2px; } However, i like to format tags this way, as it is much more easy to read (in my opinion): .Foo { width:1px; height:2px; } So, are there any way that i can implement this ? The "Tag specific options" feature seems to be the thing that i need, but i am not quite sure how to do this. Thanks.

• Jquery selectors by CSS class in IE is really slow--workarounds?

  I have a web app where I have several elements with class="classA". I want to select and apply a function to all of them. I am doing the obvious thing, which is $(".classA").each(function () { ... }). This works just fine in Chrome/Safari/Firefox but is really slow in IE. It turns out IE has serious performance issues when selecting things by CSS class in jQuery. I was wondering if anyone has suggestions on good ways to deal with this. I can't use ID selectors because there can be multiple DOM elements I want to select.

  Hello, I have recently given up on using Visual Studio for Windows editing. See, PHP isn't really important as I have hardly any pages that use it, but in VS, if it smells PHP then it won't treat it as HTML and thus will all be plainly formatted.. so.. I'm looking for some sorta HTML/CSS/PHP editor that is free and multi-platform(so I can also use it at my home OpenBSD computer) And please don't suggest emacs or vi. I'm learning more and more of nvi, but I'm looking for a graphical editor right now. Can anyone suggest a good editor for my needs?

• Slider Not Behaving As I Would Expect

  I have a slider that changes a float from 1 to 10 but I want to save this value and use it across all view controllers so I have saved that float as an NSNumber in a model class (settingsData.sensitivitySliderSettingValue). I am trying to output the updated slider value to the console every time that it is changed however it just gets set to 0 rather than 0 to 10. I don't understand why this is...   Does anyone know of a way to chain the proprietary filter properties in CSS. For example I have a div.example and I want to give it a background gradient and a drop shadow. So I'd like to do something like this: div.example { /* gradient */ filter: progid:DXImageTransform.Microsoft.Gradient(startColorstr=#cb141e78,endColorstr=#cb1dde78); /* shadow */ filter: progid:DXImageTransform.Microsoft.dropShadow(color=00143c, offX=0, offY=3, positive=true); } Except this will of course leave only the drop shadow.   If all browsers supported attribute selectors, we could easily do the following: input[type='text'] { font:bold 0.8em 'courier new',courier,monospace; } input[type='radio'] { margin:0 20px; } input[type='checkbox'] { border:2px solid red; But I don't think all IE versions of ^ and greater support this. I think I'd like to avoid skins. Not sure why, other than I tried them and I recall having a negative experience. It was probably my lack of knowledge. Are there any issues in using and CSS, external or otherwise? What's the best way to handle this? Currently I am assigning separate classes to each control type.

• Workaround for Outlook 2007 for wrapping text around image with margin?

  As we all know, Outlook 2007 uses the Word 2007 rendering engine, causing endless grief when designing HTML email message. [Insert rant here] In particular, float, margin, and padding are - shall we say? - poorly supported. To simulate float so that text wraps around an image, apparently we can simply use: <img src="foo.png" align="right"> The issue is padding/margin. Without padding/margin, the wrapped text butts up against the image which looks goofy. One workaround is to edit the image and add transparent framing that simulates margin. Does anyone know any other workarounds?

• What is the cost in bytes for the overhead of a sql_variant column in SQL Server?

  I have a table, which contains many columns of float data type with 15 digit precision. Each column consumes 8 bytes of storage. Most of the time the data does not require this amount of precision and could be stored as a real data type. In many cases the value can be 0, in which case I could get away with storing a single byte. My goal here is to optimize space storage requirements, which is an issue I am facing working with a SQL Express 4GB database size limit. If byte, real and float data types are stored in a sql_variant column there is obviously some overhead involved in storing these values. What is the cost of this overhead? I would then need to evaluate whether I would actually end up in significant space savings (or not) switching to using sql_variant column data types. Thanks, Elan

  Hello, I have to write a javascript function that is returning the current size (in px) of a div. Unfortunately the div has its weight specified in % instead of px. The style of the div: position: absolute; width: 100%; height: 100%; And my width returning function: function getTableWidth(tableId){ var tabWidth = document.getElementById('pt1::tabb').children[0].children[0].style.width; return tabWidth; } tabWidth is '100%'. Is it possible to return the px width instead of the % width ? NOTE: I don't have access to any html/css , as the page I am working on is generated through a complex framework. But I just can't disable the filter for the the links. How do I do this??

The problem is when two table are floating, they both are out of flow so next table comes without any spacing. So I add a width attribute clear:both.   I've been working for a guy whose been teaching me css. I made a website based on his designs which I'm pretty proud of, but he got back to me saying that I need to explicitly declare the padding, margin, position, and overflow (specifically every item should have "overflow:hidden") on every item. Is there any basis to this at all? Is there anything I can use to refute this? I thought that declaring something like div,span,h1,[...] {padding:0;margin:0;postion:static;overflow:hidden} would take care of everything due to the cascade.

  Hey All! I have a weird background I am trying to figure out the best way to style it. So, there are two parts to the background image, the top part which has a unique horizontal and vertical design (its about 1024x700) then a bottom section that has a unique style horizontally, but can be repeated vertically . (1024 x 1) Right now I have the top section being a background image for the header, the problem is that it screws me up for styling all of the page content because it is so big!
