• Cannot connect to windows server by name over vpn connection

  I have a rented dedicated windows server on a public ip that is acting as a SQL Server and VPN server. I need to connect to this server via computer name to get replication in place. I cannot use an ip address due to this issue: So, due to this, we are going the VPN route. That is my primary issue: After I am connected to this server's vpn, I can connect to SQL Server using the ip address but I cannot connect by the computer's name as you can see below... Right now, there is no hardware firewall on it since I had it removed to test this issue. I am running Windows 2008 Enterprise Server as the VPN server. I am not sure if the route print will help any from the workstation trying to connect but here is the info: IPv4 Route Table Active Routes: Network Destination Netmask Gateway Interface Metric 10.0.0.0 255.0.0.0 10.0.0.1 10.0.0.2 21 10.0.0.2 255.255.255.255 On-link 10.0.0.2 276 Any other info needed?   Hello, I am new to colocation. I am looking for a good place to host my server that would have around 5-10 Source Servers (Team Fortress 2). I am looking at maybe around 90 players at a time for now, players coming from all over the United States Could I get more info on what I am suppose to look for exactly? Would it be correct for me to get a 100Mb/s line and does 100Mb/s line in the following example actually be 100Mb/s upload bandwidth? I do not want to have to ever worry about going over some bandwidth limit or any DDOS attacks killing me.   I am aware that the shared mailbox feature is an exclusive microsoft feature in exchange and does not work on any non microsoft products. I am trying to create a workaround so am looking for a way to automatically export a calendar by schedule or any other means. Does anybody know any good Outlook plugins that would do something like that? it must export either in csv or iCal or some kind of other readable format.

  I am looking for hints, tips and answers on how to get started on troubleshooting when: The problem is intermittent The problem could lie literally anywhere - operating system; free source software; my own software developments; purchased software; crumbs on the keyboard; the specific combination of software I am currently running; Maxwell's demon; the little blue men actually running the machine have gone on strike; etc. I have expertise only in a few of the areas that are potential candidates for the cause of the problem. The specific problem I am having is detailed below as an example, but I am not seeking answers to my current problem, but rather where and how to start on tackling such problems. I am currently encountering a problem with my new machine. On a few occasions the machine has just frozen; not accepting keystrokes, mouseclicks, or anything except the power on/off switch. Invariably I have been merely browsing the web; I have had a few (<= 6 other applications) running. None of these applications are major; and represent a mix of commercial programs and open source programs, typically migrated from Unix of some variety. My machine is a Windows 7 I7 quad core laptop.

  I am getting ready to move a database from one server to another. In order to reduce downtime for the client, I am wondering if it would be possible for me to turn on replication and give it time to replicate fully, then just point the customer to the new server. The issue I have is that the server I'm moving to has existing, active databases for other customers. And, the server I'm moving from has other active customers who will not be moving at this time. Is this even possible? If so, how do I configure the server I am moving from and the one I am moving to?

• Can I build or test a computer without a case?

  I am in the process of building a really nice new PC right now. It's going to have a nice Lian Li case with the internals powder coated black and all the wires will be sleeved. So my problem is I am getting parts in a couple days but my case will not be completed for about a month because it is on back order plus time to powder coat it. I am purchasing many of m y parts from newegg.com and they claim you must return any dead parts within 30 days or the invoice for there warranty to replace bad parts. So is it possible for me to set up the PC without a case just to test that the main parts are working correctly within the timeframe I am allowed? If this is possible, how do I deal with turning the system on/off without a powere button? Or is therer one on a motherboard? Thanks for any tips/advice

• Need advice on which PCI SATA Controller Card to Purchase

  I have a major issue with the build of a machine I am trying to get up and running. My goal is to create a file server that will service the needs of my software development, personal media storage and streaming/media server needs, as well as provide a strong platform for backing up all this data in a routine, cron-job oriented German efficiency sort of way. The issue is a simple one - all my drives are SATA drives and my motherboard controller only contains 4 ports. Solving the issue has proven to be an unmitigated nightmare. I would like advice on the purchase of the following: 4 Port internal SATA / 2 Port external eSATA PCI SATA Controller Card that has the following features and/or advantages: It must function. If I plug it in and attach drives, I expect my system to still make it to the Operating System login screen. It must function on CentOS, and I mean it must function WELL and with MINIMAL hassle. If hassle is unavoidable, there shall be CLEAR CUT and EASY TO FOLLOW instructions on how to install drivers and other supporting software. I do not need nor want fakeRAID - I will be setting up any RAID configurations from within the operating system. Now, if I am able to find such a mythical device, I would be eternally grateful to whomever would be able to point me in the right direction, a direction which I assume will be paved with yellow bricks. I am prepared to pay a considerable sum of money (as SATA controller cards go) and so paying anywhere between 60 to 120 dollars will not be an issue whatsoever. Does such a magical device exist? The following link shows an "example" of the type of thing I am looking for, however, I have no way of verifying that once I plug this baby in that my system will still continue to function once I've attached the drives, or that once I've made it to the OS, I will be able to install whatever drivers or software programs I need to make it work with relative ease.   I have a centos vps (Parallels Virtuozzo container) which has been running for months. However, a few days ago it started to randomly reboot itself, and i can't find out why. • Exchange Public Folders in Snow Leopard Mail.app

  I am using Mail.app (running snow leopard) to connect to my email account on my school's Exchange 2007 server. I get my Inbox just fine, and iCal connects to my Outlook Calendar just fine, but I cannot seem to get any of the Exchange Public Folders that I can automatically see when I am using Outlook on a Windows box. • Unable to connect to another computer from the Task Scheduler on Windows 7

  I am getting the following error when trying to connect to another computer from the Task Scheduler on Windows 7: "The remote computer was not found." The computer that I am trying to connect to is definitely on the network as I can ping it and browse its shared folders in Windows Explorer. Note that I get the same error message when trying to perform the same operation from Performance Monitor. This suggests that I need to something to enable remote connection to the Task Scheduler. I am not very experienced with Windows administration and I am not sure where to look. To give a bit more context, I want to use the Task Scheduler to automatically start Perf Mon on a few machines at my company. I'd like to setup the Task Scheduler remotely. Does anyone know what I need to do?

• Cisco 678 Will Not Work using PPPoE - Possibly Because I Configured it Incorrectly..?

  I am attempting to configure a Cisco 678 because I am totally sick on my Actiontec. However, I am running into some problems. It seems as though the Cisco is able to train the line, but I am unable to ping out. I am all right at programming, but still learning a lot when it comes to being a system administrator. I apologize in advance if I did something ridiculous, or am attempting to configure this device to do something it was not designed to do. • Setting up phpMemCacheAdmin on CentOS 5.5

  I have been able to setup phpMemCacheAdmin (http://code.google.com/p/phpmemcacheadmin/) on CentOS and am able to view the localhost MemCache statistics however whenever I add other MemCached nodes the config is never changed. I am fairly certain it has something to do with permissions however I am unable to track down what exactly needs to be done, or how to do it. The install was pretty straightforward: wget http://phpmemcacheadmin.googlecode.com/files/phpMemCacheAdmin-1.1.3r161.tar.gz tar xvzf phpMemCacheAdmin-1.1.3r161.tar.gz chmod +w Config/Memcache.ini But, it also states that Apache has rw right in the temp file folder (default : Temp/) and the entire config directory (Config/) -- that is the part I am unsure of. Help!

I have given it another go to make sure I am copying and pasting the info correctly and I am now getting the following error: SSL install aborted due to error: Sorry, you must have a dedicated ip to use this feature for the user: username! If you are intending to install a shared certificate you must use the username "nobody" for security and bandwidth reporting reasons. Even though I am using a dedicated IP address, I am getting this problem. I thought I would also add that this SSL certificate has been installed on a shared hosting environment with my previous hostig provider. The account with them is still active, however the domain and its contents now reside on the dedicated server - could this cause problems?

• Apache + Bind Problems

  Hello, I am using VirtualMin on Debian-50-lenny-64-LAMP (Debian Linux 5.0). I've upgraded some packages including "bind". Since the upgrade, both Apache and Bind stopped working. Here's the errors I get: Blockquote Starting web server: apache2apache2: Could not reliably determine the server's fully qualified domain name, using 78.46.92.11 for ServerName (98)Address already in use: make_sock: could not bind to address [::]:80 (98)Address already in use: make_sock: could not bind to address 0.0.0.0:80 no listening sockets available, shutting down Unable to open logs failed! and Failed to start BIND : Unknown error I am sure that some files were changed after the upgrade and this is a simple problems to solve, but unfortunately, it's the first time I am in this situation and I just couldn't find a solution. I've Googled about the errors but still couldn't make it work. Now I am sorry I did the update. I usually make updates to have the latest versions of the packages that are installed in the server. Any ideas?

• Unable to connect to VPN because ther are no TAP-Win32 adapters

  I am trying to connect to a Barracuda VPN with a windows 7 machine. I am gettng this message before it fails: There are no TAP-Win32 adapters on this system. You should be able to create a TAP-Win32 adapter by going to Start - All Programs - Network Connector - Add a new TAP-Win32 virtual ethernet adapter. I am unable to follow these instructions on Windows 7, any ideas on how to create this adapter?

  Hello, I am running CentOS 5.3. I am wondering where I can download the latest kernel for this distribution. I went to www.centos.org but could see any kernel download only the complete distribution is available to download. I just want the kernel. Kernels on the www.kernels.org are the vanilla kernels.
