  • Is this normal or does my AVG anitivirus have a virus? [closed]

    Possible Duplicate: Computer is infected by a virus or a malware, what do I do now? [Note: This is not a duplicate and should not be closed as a duplicate as this is nothing like the other question. I am not asking if I have a virus, nor am I asking "what do I do now". I know that I have a virus and I know what to do. However, I am asking if these are normal AVG ads or if it has been taken over.] My Windows XP PC started acting strange and I am right now actually in Linux running off of a USB drive. I am running Avast under Linux and it has discovered some viruses on my XP drive. Some of the strange things happening in XP were: I could not get to Google.com My Hosts file was set to hidden and read only My Hosts file had an entry of ::1 And AVG had ads in it I've never seen before. Maybe it is normal but I Binged for AVG anti-virus and become.com but found no information. (The red lines and question mark are by me) Any thoughts?

  • Centralize proxy settings for all the application on my workstation

    As a consultant, I used to work at different clients premises. It happens frequently that most of them has specific proxy settings, but not all the application I have installed on my laptop get settings from system preferences, for allowing me to change settings in one place. Some of them bypass system preferences completely, proposing their own mask for entering specific data such as username, host and password. I am looking for a convenient and not much intrusive way to share a common access point on which I could enter data, and maybe persist them. An 'automatic' switching would be ideal, for example based on some network identification, but there's no problem for me to enter data manually. I am not an IT expert, but to explain myself clearly, I am looking for a solution like .pac file is for browsers. Relevant OS I am using are MacOSX and Linux (Ubuntu).

  • phpredis + pconnect

    I am using phpredis on my php based website. The webserver I am using is a the simplest apache apt-get installation, no configuration involved, as this is only a development environment. The issue I am facing is that basically, while using phpredis, there is no difference between "connect" and "pconnect" commands: they both create a new connection everytime, as I can see from the "info" command on redis-cli. Now, I am pretty sure it is because of the apache configuration and the fact that it probably (most likely) is a multi-threaded env, therefore can't enstablish a single connection. My question is basically for when I will turn into production: what would the best choice of a webserver be to avoid this problem? I remember using lighttpd with thousands of users and still get only a very few (like 2 or 3) connections on mongoDB. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

However, when I try to connect to the server using the same name and password via pgadmin, I am getting the following error: could not connect to server: Operation timed out Is the server running on host "xx.xxx.xx.xxx" and accepting TCP/IP connections on port 5432? Why am I able to connect through terminal but not pgadmin?

  • Troubleshoot telnet connection from Windows 7 to UNIX

    I am trying to connect to an Asterisk server in USA. I am using telnet < IP Address 5038 from India to USA. The person in USA is able to telnet to the IP address and port from USA , but I am not able to do it from India. We are on different networks. I am using Windows 7 Ultimate, and have enabled the Telnet client. I have also used Putty without any success. Can someone suggest me what can be the problem and how can this be resolved.

I have a lot of respect for the People who visit this SITE and help others ! Just To clarify : Just to go by SF rules - I am not seeking someone to Design this solution, I am simply seeking real world examples, experiences, technical expert opinions / suggestions, any tips or tricks they may have or any problems they may have faced while doing something similar above with these products. I am also not asking for Capacity Planning for Storage, We have done some research and I am seeking Expert Assurance / Suggestions. We (our company) are planning to deploy Symantec Endpoint Protection and Symantec Desktop Recovery 2011 Desktop Edition to our 3000 - 4000 workstations (Windows7 32 and 64) with a few 100s with Windows XP 32/64 Bit. I have read the implementation guide for SEP and have read tech-notes for Desktop Recovery 2011. Our team have planned to deploy this as follows : 1 x dedicated SQL 2008R2 for Symantec Endpoint Protection (Instead of using the Embedded Database) 1 x Dedicated SQL 2008R2 for Symantec Desktop Recovery 2011 (Instead of using the Embedded Database) 1 x Dedicated W2K8 R2 Box for the SEPM (Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager - Mgmt. APP) 1 x Dedicated W2K8 R2 Box for the Symantec Desktop Recovery 2011 Management Application Agent Deployment : As per Symantec Documentation for both of the above, an agent can be pushed via the Mgmt. Application (provided no firewalls are blocking ports required etc. - we have Windows firewall disabled already). Server Hardware : Per SQL Server : 16GB RAM + SAS DISKS + Dual XEON, RAID-10 for the SQL DB or I can always mount a LUN from our existing Hitachi or EMC SAN. SEPM Server : 16GB RAM + SAS DISKS + DUAL XEON System Recovery MGMT SERVER : 16GB RAM + SAS DISKS + DUAL XEON Above is the initial plan we have for 3000 - 4000 client workstation (Windows) Now my Questions :-) a) If we had these users distributed amongst two sites with AD DC / GC in each site, How would I restrict SEPM and Desktop Mgmt. solution to only check for users in their respective site ? b) At present all users are under one building but we are going to move some dept. to a new location (with dedicated connectivity), How would we control which SEPM / MGMT Server is responsible for which site ? c) We have netbackup in our environment backing up other servers, I am planning to protect these 4 (2 x SQL, 1 x SEPM, 1 x System Recovery Mgmt. Server) via netbackup or I can use System recovery 2011 server edition on all 4 of these boxes as well. (License is not an issue as we have the complete symantec portfolio included in our license). d) Now - Saving Desktop backups - What strategies have you implemented ? Any best practice recommendation for a large user base ? I was thinking to either mount a LUN from our Hitachi SAN on the Symantec Recovery Server itself or backup to the users hard drive locally and then copy it over to a network location ? Suggestions welcome :-) If you have anything to add / correct - that will be really helpful before diving into the actual implementation phase.   • Using JCal Pro and Community Builder together for registration

    Does anyone know if there is a way to use JCal Pro and Community Builder together in order to have users register for a specific event? When our new website was designed JCal Pro was implemented with the idea that individuals could look at the calendar and see what events they wanted to sign up for based spots open for that specific day. Now that we have more events and scheduling has become a major issue. For another project we installed CB in order to allow individuals to register and create profiles for an annual event. As I am looking at this nightmare I am living trying to organize various groupings of people I am assuming that there has to be some sort of a way to connect the two up so that those who have a user account through CB could also go in look at the calendar and sign up for an event. There is a JCal plug-in installed in CB however I have not had much luck at figuring out its functionality. I am running: Joomla 1.5.14 JCal Pro version 2.2.7.441 Community Builder: 1.2

  • Fill a table from a RAND based formula in Excel 2010

    I am trying to do a Monte Carlo simulation using Excel, but a lot of the tutorials I have found are either for older versions of the product, or are not quite what I am after. A simple example of the kind of think I am after is: Cell A1 contains the formula to simulate (for example int(6*rand())+1 to simulate rolling a dice). I have 10 rows of "Trials". What I want is to somehow point each row at a different calculation of the formula in A1. So I would end up with something like Trial Value 1 2 2 5 3 6 4 2 5 1 6 3 7 2 8 4 9 2 10 1 I have tried playing with some of the "What-if Analysis" tools, but I am a bit lost.

Here is what I am trying - virsh qemu-monitor-command -hmp VM_NAME wavcapture VM.wav This is the output I am getting : Failed to open wave file `vm.wav' Reason: Permission denied Failed to add wave capture I have tried to create a dummy vm.wav with 777 permissions. But I still get the same error.

EDIT: A) I am located in Germany. B) I am NOT looking for a place to offer pirated Software/Media; no binary on my site, except "profile icon". Hello! I want to start publishing "social" websites / apps, and I found that the biggest initial problem is this: Any and all services I have to depend on, including Domain Registrar, DNS provider, Server/Cloud Provider, CDN Provider, ... even my Insurance Agent, basically say that they can "throw me out" if my website contains "unacceptable" content. It's always phrased in such a way that basically anything can fall under "unacceptable" content. This is very frustrating because you just can't fully control what users post on your "social website", and you so you basically have to expect when you go to bed that your site is going to be gone when you wake up. I've heard a lot of horror stories about this. Since the "Terms Of Service" of all those providers are foremost to protect themselves from legal actions, and those legal actions depend on the country where they are located, it seems like the first step is to find which country is the "safest" to locate a site. "Safest" being defined as, where I am least likely to get in legal trouble with the local authorities, if some user posts something unacceptable in some way. The main restriction is that it should also be a "well-connected" country, because there is no point in being "safe", if my users can't get to my sites, or the latency is unacceptable. I am targeting the English speaking people in any country as my future users.

  • How do i get Safari to ignore the SSL Certificate error?

    In IE 6, 7, 8 and Firefox 3.6.3 and 3.0.5 i have installed a local SSL Certificate on the machine i am testing on and i have gotten the browser to igonre the SSL error (which is off one of my Web Test servers) Now i am tryin to do the same thing within safari 4 and with no luck. Basically i am running some automated scripts to test my website before they go live and i need to be able to ignore these errors as they will all run autonomosly.   • Does IIS Sometimes Allocate More Worker Processes Than Configured?

    We have an IIS 7.5 web service on Windows Server 2008 that handles WCF requests from C# clients. This service is configured to have Maximum Worker Processes = 1, so it is not a web garden. IIS is setup to recycle itself at the same time every day (3 AM). I am trying to debug gnarly connection issues, so I wanted to be sure the application pool was not recycling itself. I configured the pool to log an event when it recycles itself. To my surprise, I see the following entries in the System event log: Level: Information Date/Time: 3/23/2012 3:00:00 AM - Source: WAS - Event ID: 5076 A worker process with process id of '6636' serving application pool 'MyAppPool' has requested a recycle because it reached its scheduled recycle time. Level: Information Date/Time: 3/23/2012 2:59:39 AM - Source: WAS - Event ID: 5076 A worker process with process id of '9364' serving application pool 'MyAppPool' has requested a recycle because it reached its scheduled recycle time. IIS is correctly recycling the application pool at 3 AM. However, I do not understand why I would be getting two recycle events in the log within a few seconds of each other. The maximum number of processes is 1. Does IIS sometimes allocate multiple processes for an application pool that is specified as having 1 process? -- edit -- I connected at about 4 PM today and only saw 1 w3wp.exe process. There are no other event log entries that would indicate a crash.

    I am new to EC2 (and Tomcat, for that matter), and I am trying to deploy a vanilla Tomcat 7 server to an Ubuntu 12.04.1 EC2 instance and access the default test site over HTTP. My EC2 instance is running, and the Security Group includes port 80: My /etc/tomcat7/server.xml config has been edited to listen for HTTP requests on port 80: 0 I have restarted my Tomcat 7 server via sudo service tomcat7 restart. However, according to sudo netstat -lnp, Tomcat is not listed as listening over port 80: I am unable to get any response from going to the ...amazonaws.com public DNS in a web browser. What am I missing?

  • EC2 instances keep becoming inaccessible via SSH, can I use elastic loadbalancer to check SSH connectivity?

    This is mainly an issue for my development ec2 server as it seems that my instance keeps becoming inaccessible via SSH. It happened yesterday so I killed that one and started a new one and happened again later today. The server still works, my web application is accessible in a web browser but whenever I try to connect via SSH I get a pemrission denied (public key) error message in my terminal. I am 100% sure I am doing nothing wrong as I can create a new instance of the exact same AMI (its a personal custom AMI), change absolutely nothing, including using the same .pem key, and then am able to SSH into that new instance using the exact same command as before (just changing the IP address). I understand that ec2 can have issues but having this happen every day seems a bit odd.. I am using an m2.xlarge instance so I don't know if these tend to be unstable, in the past I have used a small instance and had it running for months with no problems which is why I find this so odd. I am looking into using loadbalancing but it seems the only "health" checks they offer is for http or tcp so I'm not sure if I can make it monitor for SSH connectivity. This is important for development as I may make 1-2 new pushes of an application a day and use SSH to do this. I have a designer that needs to have the app always accessible as he works with the front-end files to test output with the live application. Anyways, any advice / info is appreciated

I am using Netgear modem/router for my ADSL connection, and am using Netgear switches for my LAN (connected to the modem). What can go wrong and how can I investigate?

  • Win7 - Opening "Programs and Features" as Admin from command line (logged in as regular user)

    We have Win7 machines on a domain that we'd like to open the "Programs and Features" control applet via the command line while a regular user is logged in. Heres the catch: I know how to do this using runas from command line BUT after "Programs and Features" opens, I dont truly have the ability to remove a program. I am told that I need to be an Admin to do so. Here are the commands I have tried: runas /user:%computername%\administrator cmd.exe then in the new cmd window running: control appwiz.cpl runas /user:%companydomain%\%domainadminacct% cmd.exe then in the new cmd window running: control appwiz.cpl runas /user:%computername%\administrator cmd.exe then in the new cmd window running: rundll32.exe shell32.dll,Control_RunDLL appwiz.cpl runas /user:%companydomain%\%domainadminacct% cmd.exe then in the new cmd window running: rundll32.exe shell32.dll,Control_RunDLL appwiz.cpl I have also tried all of the above as one long line of code instead of launching a cmd.exe as Admin As you can see, I have tried running the command using both a local admin account (Administrator) AND a domain admin account. I have alos tried launching the runas command as one long command (opening the "programs and features") AND 1st launching a cmd.exe with admin rights and THEN launching the "Prgrams and Features" window. The result is the same: The "Programs and Features" windows opens but when I try to perform an uninstall, I am told I need Admin rights. Thus I am lead to believe that this instance of "Programs and Features" is not truly being run as an admin I am trying to avoid logging the regular user out. I am also aware that every program has its own uninstaller, I do not want to uninstall that way. I want to use the uninstaller in "Programs and Features". Any help is appreciated.
