• Huge performance difference between two web servers, odd behavior seen using process monitor

  We have two Coldfusion servers that have a huge performance difference running the exact same code on the exact same input data. The code in questions instantiates a large amount of CFCs (Coldfusion Components, which are similar to objects in OOP languages). I compared the two servers by running Process Monitor and then calling the problematic code on both machines. I learned two things. First, Coldfusion opens CFC files every time it instantiates an object. Both servers do this, so it cannot be the cause of the performance difference. Second, the fast server opens the CFC files directly while the server with the performance problem seems to navigate its way through the path until it reaches the desired CFC file. It does this for every file, even the ones it has previously loaded, and because the code instantiates so many CFCs it becomes very slow. See below the partial Promon traces that show this behavior. It can take over 60 seconds for the slow server to do what the fast one does in 2 seconds. Can anyone tell me what causes this behavior? Is it a Coldfusion setting? Since Coldfusion runs on top of Java, is it a Java setting? Is it an OS option? The fast server is running Windows XP and I think the slow server is a Windows Server 2003. Bonus question: Coldfusion doesn't seem to perform any READ FILE operations on any of the CFC or CFM files. How can this be? • App cannot start at all in Android 2.2 (Froyo)

  Dear fellow Android developers & Google Engineers, My app has been running okay until the recent Froyo update. After installing the Android 2.2 SDK, I can compile my code without any errors. I placed a breakpoint at the start of the onCreate() method but I discovered it didn't even reach there. Somehow, the application just couldn't be loaded in Android 2.2... but it works perfectly fine for all the previous Android versions. Now BC is at version 3, and I think it's a great tool... but what are your experience in this field? Do you think there is something better? • Mac OS X - Could not start Terminal.app - shell has illegal value

  I can not run the Terminal.app after rolling back my system from time machine. Mac OS X Version 10.6.2 It displays the following error. "Your are not authorized to run this application" "The administrator has set your shell to an illegal value" After that I have deleted the file ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Terminal.plist But the same message is displayed. I have repaired all system rights with the DiskUtility but that did not help.

The FIRST_VALUE is 78 and LAST_VALUE is 77. Now if these function was working on maximum and minimum value they should have given answer as 77 and 80 respectively instead of 78 and 77. Also the value of FIRST_VALUE is greater than LAST_VALUE 77. Why? Explain in detail. Hint Let me give you a simple hint. • Permissions changed after Mail.app and associated data crash

  Hi there, I experienced a major Mail.app crash on Snow Leopard couple of days ago. It took me hours to be able to make the folder structure usable again by Mail. I changed permissions back to 755 for all subfolders starting from and including ~/Library/Mail Mail now works again but settings such as folder order in the left side bar and mail ordered by date in some folders don't persist anymore. I am in no mans land as I am a developer and not a sys admin but I have to assume many roles. So I'm reaching out for help. Sometimes I will see hundreds of these 'C0000005' scriptengine errors in the event log in a matter of seconds and other times just a few times an hour. I googled this line 'ASP!CACTIVESCRIPTENGINE::GETAPPLICATION' and got nothing. Its like the function don't exist or something. I have spent many hours google-ing to no avail and am now turning to the experts on the forums. Thank you for your help

• How to show subscribed Gmail calendars in Windows 8 calendar app

  Is it possible to show my subscribed calendars on Gmail in the Windows 8 calendar app like I'm used to do on my Windows Phone? I think - but am not sure about that - that it uses the mobile API. When I try to configure it via http://m.google.com/sync on my Windows Phone I can see the client "WindowsMail" but cannot add or configure shared calendars as for my smartphone. Is there currently a possibility to achieve this or do we need to wait until they get that enabled for us?
