• How to safely collect bank account from website?

  I want to collect bank account information from my customers on my website. I'd like to do that trough a form, then I will download it to a PC, print it, and then delete it from the website. Or eventually, send it somewhere external right after the user submitted the form so it never gets stored on the website. The goal is to recieve the payment information without having to ask the customer to print, fill manually, and send it over fax. And accomplish this without having to use an external payment gateway. • Google detects Malware on my website

  Recently Google has been blocking my website after detecting Malware on it. I have checked through the files and can't spot any Malware that might have been inserted anywhere and no additional files have been added from what I can see. In the diagnostics Malware section og googles webmaster tools for the site it says "Malware Google has not detected any malware on this site." Also on stopbadware.org the website is not on their clearing house. The site is melfordschoolofmotoring.co.uk. So why is google detecting malware?

• How to remove duplicate content, which is still indexed, but not linked to anymore?

  A bug in the tool, which we use to create search-engine-friendly URLs changed our whole URL-structure overnight, and we only noticed after Google already indexed the page. Now, we have a massive duplicate content issue, causing a harsh drop in rankings. Webmaster Tools shows over 1,000 duplicate title tags, so I don't think, Google understands what is going on. Right URL: abc.com/price/sharp-ah-l13-12000-btu.html Wrong URL: abc.com/item/sharp-l-series-ahl13-12000-btu.html (created by mistake) After that, we ... Changed back all URLs to the "Right URLs" Set up a 301-redirect for all "Wrong URLs" a few days later Now, still a massive amount of pages is in the index twice. As we do not link internally to the "Wrong URLs" anymore, I am not sure, if Google will re-crawl them very soon. What can we do to solve this issue and tell Google, that all the "Wrong URLs" now redirect to the "Right URLs"? Best, David

  I want to implement a system where customers can buy physical products as subscription with recurring billing. Customers will come to my site, visit product page and buy stuff. They need to register an account before purchasing. After registration they will be forwarded to payment processor for payment and after successful payment they will be returned back to my site. Requirement: I dont want to use Paypal as a payment processor. It will be recurring payment on monthly, quarterly, bi-annual or annual basis. Customers can login to my site in order to view their Order History, Profile Management and can edit their Billing and/or Shipping details. Customers can cancel their Subscription any time after login to their account on my site. Plan: Currently I am using wordpress with WooCommerce plugin for eCommerce functionality. I am planning to use Amazon as a payment processor. I have searched WooCommerce Extension Drectory and found WC Subscription extension that can be used for my site. But I just confirmed from the Support WC Subscription only support recurring payment with Paypal and Stripe, no other payment processor is supported at the moment. Questions: According to my need, what will be the best solution? I am open to switch the platform from Wordpress to something else that can fulfill my requirement.

• Inheriting projects - General Rules?

  This is an area of discussion I have long been curious about, but overall, I generally lack the experience to give myself an answer that I would fully trust. We've all been there, a new client shows up with a half-complete project they are looking to finish and launch. For whatever reason, they fired their previous developer, and it's now up to you to save the day. I am just finishing up a code review for a new client, and in my estimation is would be better to scrap what the previous developers built since and start from scratch. There's a ton of reasons why I am leaning toward this way, but it still makes me nervous since the client isn't going to want to hear "those last guys built you a big turd, and I can either polish it, or throw it in the trash". What are your general rules for accepting these projects? How do you determine whether it will be better to start from scratch or continue with the existing code base? What other extra steps might you take to help control client expectations, since the previous developer may have inflated those expectations beyond a reasonable level? Any other general advice?

  We have a website which we want to show adverts in - However, these are custom adverts uploaded by the webmaster, not the Google adverts, or any adverts the network chooses. Ideally, there would be both options. We were considering developing our own advert-management system, but looking at the big picture, it might be better to consider other alternatives. Website is currently developed in C# / ASP.Net (Web Forms) Are there any recommendations to some open-source delivery networks and/or external hosted advert delivery networks? Personally I've used Google's DFP, however sometimes it is not so easy to get a Google AdSense account approved, especially while developing a new website and it not yet being launched. Not sure if this is the best place to ask this kind of question!

• Is MediaTemple's (gs) really worth the hassle? [closed]

  I have been hosting my sites with Dreamhost for a while, and although none of them are high-trafic atm, I am going to a launch a Rails app this summer and a couple of other stuff, so I need a serious host. Since my plan ends in a couple of days, I have been looking at alternatives, and because MT has such a good reputation in the webdesign world, I have been seriously considering paying the ridiculous 20$/month for its shared hosting services. That was until I actually read some reviews of it, most of which indicated it is slow and overpriced. So now I'm wondering whether switching over to (gs) would really be a good idea, or if I would be better off paying less money for something like a Site5 or Hostgator shared hosting plan. What is your experience with MT, and particularly their Grid Service? Do you think I should even switch to (gs) in the first place, or should I choose something else from its competitors?

• Comments section being indented by mysterious CSS

  I use Disqus comments plugin for Wordpress, and the comments section is indented to the right like a blockquote is. The code appearing in the front end post is: <div id="disqus_thread"> <div id="dsq-content"> <ul id="dsq-comments"> </ul> </div> </div> I cannot find any instance of disqus_thread or dsq using a search of the theme folder; not that searching inside file in Windows 7 isn't a complete pain in the arse. • Removing date from Google SERP

  We are going through our site analysing the SEO. I find that sometimes on a google results page, some results show a date, others don't. Example (from same query): I prefer the result not to have the date in it, as 20 Oct 2009 probably has an adverse effect on the clickability of the result. Is this Google putting it in? Or the page itself? Or a combination of both (IE, if over a certain age, it includes date). I'm thinking, if the age of the thread is 4 months don't display the date on the page, then Google might not find a date reference for it?

• Buddypress with bbpress: Showing latest topics on front page

  I'm doing a wordpress solution with BuddyPress and bbPress, where I need to display the five newest topics on the homepage, as if it was blog-entries, but it seems kind of hard to accomplish. I'm figuring I gotta do something with the activity stream, but it seems like the stream is based on the user who is currently logged in, which is not what I want. So what should I do? Use a nifty plugin that does the trick (maybe someone knows a plugin I don't know of, as I've already tried the bbPress Latest Discussion plugin) Hardcode a forum-activity loop into the page-template file, using the is_front_page() function? Is there a forum-activity hook, that display the latest forum topics sitewide? Thanks in advance

• Allowing users to create an email address

  I am creating a website and would like to allow users to create their own email forward. Basically, the site will allow groups to create pages on the site, each of which will be able to have its own domain name. I would like users to be able to automatically create an email address on the site that will forward any incoming emails to their own email account. Right now I have to manually set these up in my hosting account control panel but I'm hoping there is a way to do this automatically. Does anyone have experience with doing something similar?

After the initial data filling, google apps wishes me to prove the ownership of a domain, and has given me 4 choices: Add a DNS record to your domain's configuration Link to your Google Analytics account Upload an HTML file to your server Add a meta tag to your site's home page What is the differences between these, and how do I (if someone knows perhaps how to do it on Namecheap, it would be even better) complete this step in the process?   Are there any filters that would make background image to be displayed as black-and-white? What I mean, is this: i have a background image set via css using background: url(/image.png); But now I need to apply a filter so that an image is shown as black-white only. Ideally, I would like to also apply opacity to it. The effect I really trying to achieve is to have background image black/white and on hover over that span element the filter would be removed, revealing the color version. • Do you know a good html mailing list management software with admin levels?

  I'm basically looking for a program/app/script (can be commercial) which I can ideally install on a windows server (we can run asp, asp.net php mssql) we have different groups of people who send newsletters to web members, I want to bring it all into one app which I can monitor and control. Ideally it would be able to create html newsletters, (with some templates) track emails and click throughs. Manage email lists subscribe/unsubscribes. And importantly have different levels of admin, so a newsletter creator could log in and create and send off an email, it goes into a queue where a communications editor can have an overview of all newsletters and approve the sending of the emails or edit them before they are sent off. before I start coding something up myself I thought I'd ask if anyone has any advice! • Do Google's feed statistics include former users?

  I'm currently not using any sort of fancy stat tracking software such as feedburner, but I occasionally look at Google's stats in their Webmaster Tools just to get a rough idea of whether the number of subscribers is going up or down. This only gives the number of users subscribed through Google products, as they explain in their help documents: Subscriber stats display the number of Google users who have subscribed to your feeds using any Google product (such as Reader, iGoogle, or Orkut). Because users can subscribe to feeds using many different aggregators or RSS readers, the actual number of subscribers to your site may be higher. I used to use Google Reader very regularly but haven't opened it in a while now. The way I understand it, this will mean that even though I haven't touched any of those feeds in a long time I'm still technically subscribed to them and will therefore be included in Google's statistic. Is this correct? Also since Google runs Feedburner, does this have any effect on their stats as well?

• How to diagnose a search engine ranking drop?

  EDIT: Reworded & Cleaned Up to Ease Understanding There has been a significant drop (90%) in traffic from Google to one of my well-established sites (6+ years) in the last week. Searches show that the top 3 wide keywords all dropped 4 spots. Searches for other keywords do not show ANY results in the first 10 to 25 pages of results, while previously one 1st or 2nd page at most. Since there are 200 factors for ranking, the question really is: What steps are necesary to figure out what caused such a drop? There has been no major changes during this period or the last month on the site and certainly not in the homepage which has dropped rank. Over all the years of running this site and plenty of others, I have never experienced this. There are no duplicate content on my site and I have rigorously used canonical links for the last few years to ensure it is not misinterpreted as such.

  I would like to move my website from host A to host B I have uploaded a copy of my site to the new host, while keeping the old copy in place with the old host I will need to update the nameservers to point to the new nameservers. I'll want to change the DNS settings of domain name to point to new host b To avoid down time for the DNS change to propagate through the net, can I add the old nameservers and new nameservers together without causing problems, or must I delete the old nameservers first? What happens to my website when it points to two different nameservers?
