  • NSCurrentLocaleDidChangeNotification on iPhone OS

    While the NSCurrentLocaleDidChangeNotification perfectly makes sense on Mac OS X, I don't see how you can possibly receive it on iPhone OS. In order to change the locale, you have to quit the running application, then change it in Settings ? General ? International ? Region Format. At that point, your app is not running, so how could it receive the notification? I first thought this notification was leftover from the Mac OS X documentation, but then I found this in Apple Push Notification Service Programming Guide: The application might send its provider the preferred language every time the user changes something in the current locale. To do this, you can listen for the notification named NSCurrentLocaleDidChangeNotification and, in your notification-handling method, get the code identifying the preferred language and send that to your provider. So, how do you trigger this notification on iPhone OS?

    Hi there, I'm beginning in iPhone/iPad game dev and I'm searching to set up my learning path. The basic features I would like to learn (after the basic SDK iphone components programming) are : using a board like interface where I can move pawn with my fingers detect where the pawn was moved and triggers events in the game The board will be constitute by 6 tiles that may be organised randomly when starting the game : may i use an sdk component with a delegate and datasource to determine where the pawn was left and on which tile ? need to use dices (which kind of library may I use ?) ...   • Writing my first blackberry app

    I am contemplating writing my first blackberry app. I am fundamentally, a C/C++ programmer (not Java), can anyone provide some guidelines on the quickest route (i.e. shallowest learning curve) to writing a blackberry app? Any resources/links would be useful. As an aside: In an ideal world, I would like to write once and deploy for both Blackberry and the iPhone, but since I am targetting largely business people, I guess blackberry should be my target - right? Is it possible to write once and deploy on BOTH iphone and BB?

  • Access synced notes from iPhone on Windows other than through Mail/Outlook?

    I see from the iPhone how to page that synced notes on Windows appear in MS Mail or Outlook/Outlook Express. I don't use any of these programs. Can I access the iPhone notes some other way? I don't see indication on Apple's site that such a thing is possible. I would like to do this without a 3rd party iPhone application, and I'd really like to avoid MS Mail/Outlook. For what it's worth, this is for my wife and she's using Windows. I sync my iPhone with a Mac. She's loathe to use a bunch of different programs.

    Today my app approved, but I got emails from users says it crash. I figured out that [[UIApplication sharedApplication] setStatusBarHidden:YES withAnimation: UIStatusBarAnimationSlide]; Is the problem, Because users have firmware 3.1.x this API is not working and app crash. So I have replace it with if ([[[UIDevice currentDevice] systemVersion] floatValue]>=3.2) [[UIApplication sharedApplication] setStatusBarHidden:YES withAnimation: UIStatusBarAnimationSlide]; else [[UIApplication sharedApplication] setStatusBarHidden:YES animated:YES]; My questions... Is what I did the best solution? Why XCODE did not warn me that SetStatusBarHidden withAnimation is not in 3.0 while I set my Traget OS firmware 3.0? Do I have to check on every API to see if it is working with my Target OS? Thank you

  • Is an iPhone Call Recorder theoretically possible?

    NOTE: I know neither the iPhone SDK or Objective C, just wondering if possible. I know obviously it would have to be on a Jailbroken device anyway, but it is technically possible for a iPhone call recording application to be made, or is it not possible to hook into the calls or the audio input/output? I know obviously there would be no 'official' way of doing it and certainly not from an App Store application. And I know there are call recording apps which place outgoing calls through their own servers. Just wondering if the reason it doesn't exist yet is just because no-one has coded it or if it's not actually possible?

  • iphone best practice, how to load multiple high quality images

    Hi guys and girls, I have about 20-ish high quality images (~3840x5800 px) that I need to load in a simple gallery type app. The user clicks a button and the next image is loaded into the UIImageView. I currently use [UIImage imageWithContentsOfFile:] which takes about 6 seconds to load each image in the simulator :( if I use [UIImage imageNamed:] it takes even longer to load but caches the images which means its quicker if the user wishes to see the same images again. But it may cause memory problems later with all that caching crashing my app. I want to know whats the best practice for loading these? I'm experimenting with reducing image file size as much as is possible but I really need them to be high quality image for the purpose of the app (zoomable, etc.). Thanks for any advice

    As a follow-up to this question, the next one is: Will we be able to simulate our interfaces how they look on the new high resolution display, even without owning an iPhone 4? I guess that there is a formula that we can use to calculate the exact needed distance between our monitors and our eyes, to achieve the exact same visual effect of the Retina Display. We need the ability to be able to sync a subset of content from a server to a local database residing on the iPhone.   • How to make my iphone app icon update like the weather app icon?

    I have an application that I'm currently building that requires me to display a visual update on the application it self. example: The weather app displays 14 degrees celcius and some clouds as its application icon. When the weather changes there is an update to the way the icon looks without having to open the weather app. The applications icon changes to reflect the update in weather. You can then open the weather app to get more information if need be. In my application I need to have an update system like that which shows the user information without opening the application. If they would like more information they can open the application then. I have no idea how to accomplish this task at the moment.     I try to create php web app using GAE. In the GAE tutorial, "A script handler executes a PHP script to handle the request that matches the URL pattern. The mapping defines a URL pattern to match, and the script to be executed" Now I want to map the url with the file having same name in the folder, e.g. if the url is /hello.* , it will map the file name hello.php in the folder. And if it is /hello1.*, hello1.php in the folder will be responded to the server. I thought this should be done directly by mapping the name of the url with the name in the folder. But if I left empty for the handler in the app.yaml, I got an error. So I want to know how to set up the handler in app.yaml?
