• advice on setting up SVN

  I'm trying to setup an svn server. I maintain couple of websites based on asp. There are three environments currently. Development: Any new modules/enhancements will be done in this environment Staging: Mirror of production Production: The public facing website. Currently when there's an update to the website, this is what we do do the update in development copy file to staging copy file to production In production we take a backup of the old file by renaming it. I would like to make it simpler by installing SVN and stop the file renaming thing. But im not sure how many repositories to have per website. should be it be three or two? I'm absolutely new to svn. Just installed it in a linux based server (ubuntu). Can you pls advice how to go about it? Thanks -Vivek

• [PHP.ini] Can't load mcrypt.dll dynamic library.

  Hey guys, I'm trying to load this module: php_mcrypt.dll' Everything in the php.ini file is correct, see for yourself: extension_dir = "C:/PHP/5.2.13/ext" extension=php_mcrypt.dll The file exists in this path. And other modules are in there as well and are loaded successfully. It only has a problem with this particular module. I have a 64bit Windows XP, Apache 2.2, PHP 5.2.13... But i get this warning (error.log of Apache): PHP Warning: PHP Startup: Unable to load dynamic library 'C:/PHP/5.2.13/ext\php_mcrypt1.dll' - The specified module could not be found.\r\n in Unknown on line 0 PHP itself is working fine. But one of our applications needs this module and it throws me this ugly error. Why on earth does it show me two backslashes in the log file?

  I'm implementing a ruby server for handling sockets being created from GPRS modules. The thing is that when the module powers down, there's no indication that the socket closed. I'm doing threads to handle multiple sockets with the same server. What I'm asking is this: Is there a way to use a timer inside a thread, reset it after every socket input, and that if it hits the timeout, closes the thread? Where can I find more information about this?   It appears that a certain project of mine will require the use of quad-trees, something that I have never worked with before. From what I have read they should allow substantial performance enhancements than a brute-force attempt at the problem would yield. Are any of these python modules any good? • In Prism (CAL), how can I RegisterPresenterWithRegion instead of RegisterViewWithRegion

  I have a module in a Prism application and in its initialize method I want to register a presenter instead of a view with a region, i.e. I want to do this: PSEUDO-CODE: regionManager.RegisterPresenterWithRegion( "MainRegion", typeof(Presenters.EditCustomerPresenter)); instead of loading a view like this: regionManager.RegisterViewWithRegion( "MainRegion", typeof(Views.EditCustomerView)); The presenter would of course bring along its own view and ultimately register this view in the region, but it would allow me to bind the presenter to the view in the presenter's constructor instead of binding the two together in XAML (which is more of a decoupled MVVM pattern which I want to avoid here). • Drupal - Counting data in nodes, creating custom statistics

  Hiya, I'm building some custom content types to capture customer data on a website. Admins will enter the data, users will be able to view it, but I also need to be able to bolt on some statistics and infographics to the data. The problem I have is that I can't see any simple way of doing this within Drupal. Are there modules which can produce simple stats on selected node types or will I have to write a complete custom module using the data abstraction layer? Thanks for any insights!

• Invoke Maven-Module build from intellij

  Hi All I was wondering if someone knows a way to invoke a specific maven module build from IntelliJ that will also build ( or use already compiled classes ) from depended modules. So for instance if I would like to build the module "Model" in the picture and only it , it seems reasonable for me to click the package step on it. But what is actually does it invokes the mvn package step inside this specific module rather than "mvn -am -pl module-name" from the root module , which also builds all the dependencies. So is there something that I just don't know ?

• Why does dojo parsing time depend on css and images availability?

  I have been profiling javascript on my page that uses dojo widgets. I don't use explicit parsing - the parser runs on page load. What I noticed is that if I clear browser cache before refreshing the page, dojo parsing takes much more time than if all the files are already cached. Note that we build all the required dojo modules into a layer (a single file), so we don't lazy-load any js files. I wonder if dojo parsing process depends on images and css resources, as far as I know it only instantiates widgets and injects dom nodes. Do you have any ideas why dojo parser runs longer (2-3 times longer in my case) when the cache is cleared?

  So according to my testing, If you have something like: Module modA = new AbstractModule() { public void configure() { bind(A.class).to(AImpl.class); bind(C.class).to(ACImpl.class); bind(E.class).to(EImpl.class); } } Module modB = New AbstractModule() { public void configure() { bind(A.class).to(C.class); bind(D.class).to(DImpl.class); } } Guice.createInjector(Modules.overrides(modA, modB)); // gives me binding for A, C, E AND D with A overridden to A->C. But what if you want to remove the binding for E in modB? I can't seem to find a way to do this without having to break the bind for E into a separate module. Is there a way?

We consist in a group of 4 developers and a manager (that knows something about programming and distributed systems). Each one, having own opinion on service design. It consists in a distributed system: a user interface (web app) accessing the services in a dedicated server (inside the firewall), to obtain the business logic operations. So we got 2 main approachs that I list above : Modular services Having many modules, each one consisting of a service (WCF). Example: namespaces SystemX.DebtService, SystemX.CreditService, SystemX.SimulatorService Unique service All the business logic is centralized in a unique service. Example: SystemX.OperationService. The web app calls the same service for all operations. In your opinion, whats the best? Or having another approach is better for this scenario?

• Open source configuration framework for ASP.NET - does one exist?

  We currently have an old product written in classic asp and are about to re-write parts in ASP.NET. One big problem is that much of the cutomer-specifics within the system are hard coded. We want to split this out for specific customers by storing data in the database. Is there a quick an easy open source framework which allows me to set up some quick tables and simple UIs to allow me to change configuration items? We have 6-7 modules, and it would be nice to have the ability to have system admins gain access to a configuration area where they can set-up settings in a tabbed UI format, settings could also be set-up to allow dropdown, fields, numbers etc. The items could then be accessed via classes in C#/vb for use within the operational parts of the system. If not, I'm suprised and it might even be a good basis for a new open source project.

  I'm trying to create a menu tree in drupal like this: - term 1 node 1 node 2 - sub-term 1 node 3 node 4 + sub-term 2 - sub-term 3 node 5 - sub-sub-term 1 node 6 + term 2 etc. (Sub-term 2 and term 2 are toggled closed.) Some requirements: Output this using something like JQuery Menu to get an interactive tree Filter the nodes by cck type Filter the nodes by cck field Only have terms with nodes or other active terms in them show up Mark the current node as such, and automatically open the tree to that point Do I have to write this myself, or are there a combination of modules that can do it? I've got Advanced Taxonomy Blocks, which is pretty close, but it doesn't list the nodes.

• How to access system.webserver web.config node in .NET 2

  Are there any .NET APis that can read/update the system.webServer node in web.config? I know I can do it via reading/parsing the web.config file as xml but that's awkward. To read/update the system.web node in .NET 2 I can use: HttpModulesSection httpModulesSection = (HttpModulesSection)configuration.GetSection("system.web/httpModules"); But is there any API based way of accessing system.web/modules using .NET 2? I have to reference the .NET 2 version of system.web.configuration because I don't know in advance if my web app will be run on a server with .NET 2 or 3.5. So it is limited to .NET 2 API calls only. • Pure-JavaScript projects in NetBeans?

  This seems like it ought to be obvious, yet I can't figure it out. I do a lot of JavaScript coding, and I really like NetBeans. Unfortunately I can't figure out how to create a "JavaScript" project in NetBeans. If I go to File - New Project, my only options are "Java", "Ruby", and "NetBeans Modules". I don't want any of these. My project consists mostly of JavaScript, with a little bit of CSS. I ususally just end up creating a "Ruby" project, but this seems retarded, since I don't actually have any Ruby code. Why isn't there an option to create a "JavaScript" or "Web" project, or at least a "Generic" project that doesn't revolve around a specific language? Am I missing something here?

• Best way to deal with multiple layouts in symfony

  Hey folks. I'm looking for the best way to do something simple in symfony. Basically, I have a module in which all the pages will contain the same header and footer. That module also shares the same general layout as the other modules. I'm just wondering, should I create one file and have my content pages called up as partials or should all files have their own content and somehow call the two other templates.   I'm validating the installation of a program that consists of a few separate modules. They are not co-dependent. I have apple.jar and orange.jar, they are placed in the same folder and were developed in the same project, but run independent of each other. • What's the ROI of using a build tool like ant or nant?

  To me this sounds like a really stupid question. Why would you not use a build tool? However, I need to explain my co-worker why he should be using a build tool of some sort. He's getting really into the idea of working as a team with more programmers, but he isn't understanding the bigger picture of what needs to change in the build process in order to work with a larger team; (i.e. defensive programming/unit testing your code, having a bug database, programming modular libraries, and using sub-repositories to store modules in version control. This is a rather large stack of technologies that I need to prove the ROI of...so I figured I'd start with the ROI of using a build tool rather than just...say...clicking compile.

• How does Perl's lib pragma work?

  I use use lib "./DIR" to grab a library from a folder elsewhere. However, it doesn't seem to work on my server, but it works fine on my local desktop. Any particular reasons? And one more question, does use lib get propagated within several modules? Two situations: Say I make a base class that requires a few libraries, but I know that it needs to be extended and the extended class will need to use another library. Can I put the use lib command in the base class? or will I need to put it in every extending class? Finally, can I just have a use package where package contains a bunch of use lib, will it propagate the use lib statements over to my current module? <-- I don't think so, but asking anyways

• Can default Symfony form-save actions be used to post data via AJAX?

  I was playing around with Symfony, jQuery, jqGrid & AJAX. For each new post submission, I am doing the foll: adding a routing entry in routing.yml defining a new action in the Actions file for the module. THis reads params, assigns values & saves the object As in the case of jqGrid, the 'Add Row' form is not a Symfony form. Is there a way to fool Symfony and post data to the executeCreate action to store a new entry. If not, does Symfony provide a way to quickly generate web services for AJAX requests for each of the modules? Is this a sensible feature? What I am going to have to do other-wise, is to create routing create a new Action get all parameters instantiate object assign values & save Any help in doing this faster will be appreciated. • Sphinx autodoc is not automatic enough

  I'm trying to use Sphinx to document a 5,000+ line project in Python. It has about 7 base modules. As far as I know, In order to use autodoc I need to write code like this for each file in my project: .. automodule:: mods.set.tests :members: :show-inheritance: This is way too tedious because I have many files. It would be much easier if I could just specify that I wanted the 'mods' module to be documented. Sphinx could then recursively go through the module and make a page for each submodule. Is there A feature like this? If not I could write a script to make all the .rst files, but that would take up a lot of time.

• Connecting .NET to Common Lisp

  I have a fairly involved LispWorks Common Lisp module that sits atop some .NET modules via RDNZL. It has come up that I need to expose some of its functionality to some other .NET applications, and I'm not sure the best (shortest) way to approach this without re-writing the module in C#. I know there are a few CLR Lisp implementations but most seem unmaintained or incomplete and there are many things that cannot be trivially re-written in Scheme. Is there any facility that exposes the opposite of what RDNZL enables (.NET - Common Lisp)? Can I use RDNZL to deliver a DLL that accepts .NET objects?
