• Is it possible to have a .NET route that maps to the same place as a directory?

  I'm building a CMS using WebForms on .NET 4.0 and have the following route that allows URLs like www.mysite.com/about to be mapped to the Page.aspx page, which looks up the dynamic content. routes.MapPageRoute("page", "{name}", "~/Page.aspx"); The problem is that I have a couple of folders in my project that are interfering with possible URLs. For example, I have a folder called "blog" where I store pages related to handling blog functionality, but if someone creates a page for their site called "blog" then navigating to www.mysite.com/blog gets the following error: 403 - Forbidden: Access is denied. You do not have permission to view this directory or page using the credentials that you supplied. Other similar URLs route correctly, but I think because .NET is identifying /blog as a physical location on the server it is denying directory access. Is there a way to tell IIS / .NET to only look for physical files instead of files and folders?

• Is it possible to make a (Windows 7) executable automatically run when I put in my thumb drive?

  I have portable apps on a thumbdrive, and want to automatically run the "menu" app (E:\Applications\Windows\Start.exe) when I insert that drive. I realize (or think I realize, based on a foggy memory of trying to find a way to do this some time ago) that it can no longer be done with the old autorun approach, at least not in Windows 7. But there must be some other way: maybe a daemon process that waits for the thumbdrive to be inserted, and then fires up the .exe file? Maybe a daemon that tries every five minutes or so to launch the menu, and doesn't make a fuss when it's not there. Maybe something else? How can I achieve this?

  Does Windows 8 support upgrading from a clean install. For example, buying the upgrade key and entering it on a clear install? Or is it functionally necissary to have the version you are upgrading from installed on the computer. The former was the case with Windows 7, but I recal Windows 2000 needed the an installed copy before an update would proceed. I currently have a linux setup and I have the liceanse for Windows 7, but I don't want to have to downoad two 4 GB isos.

• Is it possible to load a file full of binary data into GDB when GDB is debugging a core file?

  I am debugging a crash using GDB and a core file. A large portion of the memory space is mmapped into the process. That portion of the memory is not saved into the core file. I have a file that contains all the data in that mmapped memory. I would like to find a way to load the data from that file into GDB at a certain offset so that I can display datastructures within that address space. Is this possible? Note that I have tried the 'restore' command in GDB and it does not work when debugging a core file. Perhaps there are tools that allow a core file to have additional data appended to it?

Now I have the 2003 and 2007 in my PC. Do you think it will cause any problem if I do the migration, that I have the two version of the Access in the computer? • Is it possible to host a website with Apache HTTP through a ZyXEL EQ-660R modem and a Netgear WGT624v3 wireless router?

  Essentially, I have a spare desktop computer I'd like to turn into a web server, but my modem and wireless router are very difficult to work with. I installed Apache HTTP and successfully hosted a test page which can be accessed anywhere on the LAN. However, I'm having trouble setting up the server to be accessed from my external IP address. I was supplied with a ZyXEL EQ-660R DSL modem by my ISP (CenturyLink) and bought a Netgear WGT624v3 wireless router in which to connect my laptop and spare desktop. ZyXEL's website is no help, and I don't think much of the problem is with the Netgear router. I've played with many settings and have tried to forward port 80 from the modem, but I've had no luck. Could someone direct me toward a solution or recommendations for more promising hardware? Or should I admit defeat and explore other hobbies? :)

  Exactly what it says on the Tin. I have a dual-socket, socket-F motherboard in which I am looking to put two high-end quad-core Opterons, but the 2000 series are nearly double the price of the 8000 series on eBay. Can I just drop in a pair of 8000 series processors and be done with it, or are there processor-critical motherboard features that would be present on a quad(+)-socket motherboard that don’t exist on a dual-socket motherboard? Please elaborate or link to resources that can explain this further, as I am not adverse to research (and I am interested in the technical issues involved) I am probably using the wrong search terms, as Google failed to return anything within the first few dozen results.

  I'd like to run an Android background service that will act as a keylistener from the home screen or when the phone is asleep. Is this possible?   Hi, I'm wondering, is it possible to collect the height of a specific div container from a separate page with JavaScript? I'm using jQuery btw and I'm in need of comparing heights of div containers. Edit: To clarify a bit more, I load content from a specific div in a separate page using jQuery. This content is faded into a different container with dynamic height. But in the small fraction of time before the content arrives, it shrinks down to it's min-height. What I've done so far is collecting the height of the container before and after the load. But it only works after I've loaded content once. Because I don't have the height before it's been loaded the first time.

  I am currently attending college and the languages that I will 'know' by graduation are C++ and Java. That being said, i am also in the process of teaching myself Python. I know that every programming language has its own pros and cons, but would it be possible to become a python developer out of school? I always have more 'fun' programming in Python than i do in C++ or Java, and I am also in love with Pythons documentation. I know C++ will always be on top in terms of speed, but what would be the benefit of memorizing every javadoc against focusing on Python instead? are there good jobs to be had with Python? edit: also, would it be beneficial for me to look at C# as well? Microsoft is really throwing their support at it so that could be a decent career path as well.

  I would like to override the keyboard-shortcut for a particular built-in action in finder (OS X 10.6.7). An example would be to override the Cmd+N for a New Finder Window to some other action, say Open a blank Text document. I can create the service for opening a blank Text document in automator - and I can map a new keyboard shortcut for this - but the new keyboard shortcut will not override a default keyboard shortcut. I do not want to install any 3rd party applications (like QuickSilver).

  I'm trying to change the default saving path to my specfied path for example if the file is picture (.jpg .gif etc..) and using google chrome I save an image the path can be anything from default or last used so I want it to be mine specfied for example I choose "C:\SaveHerePics" I don't know how you can change it maybe Registry? Dll? • Received a RAMPAGE IV FORMULA MOBO. Possible CPU Socket problems

  I recently received a Rampage IV Formula MOBO in a trade. From everything I read online this seems like a pretty nice piece of hardware. There's one thing I'm worried about though. It appears as though the socket where the CPU goes might have some bent/missing pins. I'm not exactly a computer expert and I wanted to know if this could be any sort of problem. I would post a picture but I apparently don't have enough rep for that... Also, if I did want to move my current rig onto the new MOBO would it even be worth it?   What I'm trying to do is to take the highest two values out of 4 possible variables and add them together, while ignoring the lesser two values. My values will be anywhere between 1 and 5. So, for example, if I have Trait1, Trait2, Trait3 and Trait4 with the following assigned values: 3, 3, 2, 1, the script will pick up the 3 and the 3, but not the 2 and the 1. If I change the values around so that I have 4, 3, 1, 5, the script will pick up the 4 and the 5, but not the 3 and the 1. How would I go about doing this? Thank you in advance.

• Is it possible to log the first line of the response in apache?

  Hey, We have an Tomcat server where we're trying to log the HTTP version which the response is sent with. We've seen a few times that it seems to be HTTP/0.9, which kills the content (not supported I guess?). We would like to get some stats on this by using the access log in apache. However, since the header line for this isn't prefixed by anything, we cannot use the %{xxx}o logging. Is there a way to get this? • Possible to exclude or reorder a column from `*` ?

  Is it possible to exclude a column from a select * from table statement with SQL Server? I have a need for this and this is my only option other than parsing a raw SQL string to get out the required field names (I really don't want to do that). Just to be bold. When the query is made I do not have access to the list of fields needed from the table but I do know which field I do not need. This is part of a complex multi-part query. Surely there must be some way even if it's "hackish" such as using table variables or views My other option is to reorder the columns. My problem is with ExecuteScalar SQL functions which get the first row and first column.

• Is it possible to dynamically change the style/template of a control?

  I am creating a UserControl in Silverlight 4 which has a watermarked background. The watermark should change depending on the underlying 'type' the UserControl is representing. The watermark is created using a Path and I have extracted all the properties into a style. I was wondering if it would be possible to change the style of the Path at runtime based on some known value. I am using MVVM and Unity. Perhaps I could bind the style somehow? Or could I inject the style when the view is created? I may have to do this with control templates, hence the reference in the title. Thanks...
