  • DataContractSerializer KnownType attribute not being respected?

    - by e28Makaveli
    I have a class that is decorated with a KnownType attribute with a type of the class. Is this not allowed? [KnownType(typeof(Occ600UIConfig))] public class Occ600UIConfig { } If so, why is the DCS throwing the following exception? {"Error in line 1 position 387. Element 'http://schemas.microsoft.com/2003/10/Serialization/Arrays:Value' contains data of the 'http://schemas.datacontract.org/2004/07/OCC600.Infrastructure.Dictionary.BusinessEntities:Occ600UIConfig' data contract. The deserializer has no knowledge of any type that maps to this contract. Add the type corresponding to 'Occ600UIConfig' to the list of known types - for example, by using the KnownTypeAttribute attribute or by adding it to the list of known types passed to DataContractSerializer."}

  • Need help understanding Generics, How To Abstract Types Question.

    - by kmacmahon
    I could use some really good links that explain Generics and how to use them. But I also have a very specific question, relater to working on a current project. Given this class constructor: public class SecuredDomainViewModel<TDomainContext, TEntity> : DomainViewModel<TDomainContext, TEntity> where TDomainContext : DomainContext, new() where TEntity : Entity, new() public SecuredDomainViewModel(TDomainContext domainContext, ProtectedItem protectedItem) : base(domainContext) { this.protectedItem = protectedItem; } And its creation this way: DomainViewModel d; d = new SecuredDomainViewModel<MyContext, MyEntityType>(this.context, selectedProtectedItem); Assuming I have 20 different EntityTypes within MyContext, is there any easier way to call the constructor without a large switch statement? Also, since d is DomainViewModel and I later need to access methods from SecuredDomainViewModel, it seems I need to do this: if (((SecuredDomainViewModel<MyContext, MyEntityType>)d).CanEditEntity) But again "MyEntityType" could actually be one of 20 diffent types. Is there anyway to write these types of statements where MyEntityType is returned from some sort of Reflection?

  • Shawn Wildermuth violating MVVM in MSDN article?

    - by rasx
    This may be old news but back in March 2009, Shawn Wildermuth, his article, “Model-View-ViewModel In Silverlight 2 Apps,” has a code sample that includes DataServiceEntityBase: // COPIED FROM SILVERLIGHTCONTRIB Project for simplicity /// <summary> /// Base class for DataService Data Contract classes to implement /// base functionality that is needed like INotifyPropertyChanged. /// Add the base class in the partial class to add the implementation. /// </summary> public abstract class DataServiceEntityBase : INotifyPropertyChanged { /// <summary> /// The handler for the registrants of the interface's event /// </summary> PropertyChangedEventHandler _propertyChangedHandler; /// <summary> /// Allow inheritors to fire the event more simply. /// </summary> /// <param name="propertyName"></param> protected void FirePropertyChanged(string propertyName) { if (_propertyChangedHandler != null) { _propertyChangedHandler(this, new PropertyChangedEventArgs(propertyName)); } } #region INotifyPropertyChanged Members /// <summary> /// The interface used to notify changes on the entity. /// </summary> event PropertyChangedEventHandler INotifyPropertyChanged.PropertyChanged { add { _propertyChangedHandler += value; } remove { _propertyChangedHandler -= value; } } #endregion What this class implies is that the developer intends to bind visuals directly to data (yes, a ViewModel is used but it defines an ObservableCollection of data objects). Is this design diverging too far from the guidance of MVVM? Now I can see some of the reasons why Shawn would go this way: what Shawn can do with DataServiceEntityBase is this sort of thing (which is intimate with the Entity Framework): // Partial Method to support the INotifyPropertyChanged interface public partial class Game : DataServiceEntityBase { #region Partial Method INotifyPropertyChanged Implementation // Override the Changed partial methods to implement the // INotifyPropertyChanged interface // This helps with the Model implementation to be a mostly // DataBound implementation partial void OnDeveloperChanged() { base.FirePropertyChanged("Developer"); } partial void OnGenreChanged() { base.FirePropertyChanged("Genre"); } partial void OnListPriceChanged() { base.FirePropertyChanged("ListPrice"); } partial void OnListPriceCurrencyChanged() { base.FirePropertyChanged("ListPriceCurrency"); } partial void OnPlayerInfoChanged() { base.FirePropertyChanged("PlayerInfo"); } partial void OnProductDescriptionChanged() { base.FirePropertyChanged("ProductDescription"); } partial void OnProductIDChanged() { base.FirePropertyChanged("ProductID"); } partial void OnProductImageUrlChanged() { base.FirePropertyChanged("ProductImageUrl"); } partial void OnProductNameChanged() { base.FirePropertyChanged("ProductName"); } partial void OnProductTypeIDChanged() { base.FirePropertyChanged("ProductTypeID"); } partial void OnPublisherChanged() { base.FirePropertyChanged("Publisher"); } partial void OnRatingChanged() { base.FirePropertyChanged("Rating"); } partial void OnRatingUrlChanged() { base.FirePropertyChanged("RatingUrl"); } partial void OnReleaseDateChanged() { base.FirePropertyChanged("ReleaseDate"); } partial void OnSystemNameChanged() { base.FirePropertyChanged("SystemName"); } #endregion } Of course MSDN code can seen as “toy code” for educational purposes but is anyone doing anything like this in the real world of Silverlight development?

  • Chaining IQueryables together

    - by Matt Greer
    I have a RIA Services based app that is using Entity Framework on the server side (possibly not relevant). In my real app, I can do something like this. EntityQuery<Status> query = statusContext.GetStatusesQuery().Where(s => s.Description.Contains("Foo")); Where statusContext is the client side subclass of DomainContext that RIA Services was kind enough to generate for me. The end result is an EntityQuery<Status> object who's Query property is an object that implements IQueryable and represents my where clause. The WebDomainClient is able to take this EntityQuery and not just give me back all of my Statuses but also filtered with my where clause. I am trying to implement this in a mock DomainClient. This MockDomainClient accepts an IQueryably<Entity> which it returns when asked for. But what if the user makes the query and includes the ad hoc additional query? How can I merge the two together? My MockDomainClient is (this is modeled after this blog post) ... public class MockDomainClient : LocalDomainClient { private IQueryable<Entity> _entities; public MockDomainClient(IQueryable<Entity> entities) { _entities = entities; } public override IQueryable<Entity> DoQuery(EntityQuery query) { if (query.Query == null) { return _entities; } // otherwise want the union of _entities and query.Query, query.Query is IQueryable // the below does not work and was a total shot in the dark: //return _entities.Union(query.Query.Cast<Entity>()); } } public abstract class LocalDomainClient : System.ServiceModel.DomainServices.Client.DomainClient { private SynchronizationContext _syncContext; protected LocalDomainClient() { _syncContext = SynchronizationContext.Current; } ... public abstract IQueryable<Entity> DoQuery(EntityQuery query); protected override IAsyncResult BeginQueryCore(EntityQuery query, AsyncCallback callback, object userState) { IQueryable<Entity> localQuery = DoQuery(query); LocalAsyncResult asyncResult = new LocalAsyncResult(callback, userState, localQuery); _syncContext.Post(o => (o as LocalAsyncResult).Complete(), asyncResult); return asyncResult; } ... }

  • Workflow Foundation 4 - DeclarativeServiceLibrary - Error while calling second ReceiveAndSendReply

    - by dotnetexperiments
    Hi, I have created a DeclarativeServiceLibrary using VS2010 beta 2, Please check this image of Sequential Service Following is the code used to call these two activities ` int? data = 123; ServiceReference1.ServiceClient client1 = new ServiceReference1.ServiceClient(); string result1 = client1.GetData(data); //This line shows error :( string result2 = client1.Operation1(); Response.Write(result1 + " :: ::" + result2);` client1.GetData works perfectly, but client1.Operation1 show the following error. Please let me know how to fix this. There is no context attached to the incoming message for the service and the current operation is not marked with "CanCreateInstance = true". In order to communicate with this service check whether the incoming binding supports the context protocol and has a valid context initialized.

  • All about WSDL vs MEX?

    - by Aakash
    I am not able to open the meta data url - http://localhost:8082/Tasks/mex I have added the mexhttpBinding in the config file. Can I see this mex endpoint in browser? The config files look like: <endpoint address="mex" binding="mexHttpBinding" contract="IMetadataExchange" /> Questions: Is Mex is differ from WSDL? If no, why do we require MEX endpoing over WSDL? In the WSDL, I see the WSDL types information missing. Is it by default? Can I look at the type information in WSDL? Thanks in advance.

  • Expose url to webservice

    - by Patrick Peters
    In our project we want to query a document management system for a specific document or movie. The dms returns a URL with the document location (for example: http://mydomain.myserver1.share/mypdf.pdf or http://mydomain.myserver2.share/mymovie.avi). We want to expose the document to internet users and intranet users. The requested file can be large (large video files). Our architecture is like: request goes like: webapp1 - webapp2 - webapp3 - dms response goes like: dms - webapp3 - webapp2 - webapp1 webapp1 could be on the internet. I have have been thinking how we can obfusicate the real url from the dms, due to security issues. I have seen implementations from other webapps where the pdf URL was obfusicated by creating a temp file for the requested document that is specific for the session and user. So other users cannot easily guess the documentname of other users. My question: is there a pattern that deals with exposing company/user vulernable data to the public ? Our development is in C# 3.5.

    I'm making tutorials. Silverlight + MSSQL And I'm on the last step when it says "Copy-paste my code and tada it will works"... :-/ But after I added System.Windows.Controls.Data reference it still can't find Error 3 The type or namespace name 'Data' does not exist in the namespace 'System.Windows.Controls' (are you missing an assembly reference?) I really don't miss the reference ... Maybe I need to add it somehow else or ... I really have no idea. (VSWDEE2010)

  • How to perform insert and update with Ado.net dataservices (EF and Inheritance)

    - by Thurein
    Hi, I have an entity model, in which I have a table per type inheritance. There are 3 types, first, Contact, which I defined as abstract in my EF model and the rest are Company and person types which are derived from contact type. Is it possible to perform an insert using ado.net dataservice and asp.net ajax library? I was trying the following client code : dataContext.insertEntity(person, "Contacts"); I was getting this response from server : Error processing request stream. Type information must be specified for types that take part in inheritance. Thanks.

  • Possible to use multiple ServiceReference.ClientConfig files?

    - by Maciek
    I'm building a modular Silverlight application, using Prism. In the Shell project, I'm loading 2x modules, each hailing from a separate assembly. For convenience let's call them ModuleA and ModuleB ModuleA makes calls to WebServiceA. A ServiceReference.ClientConfig file is present in ModuleA's assembly. In order for this to work, in the shell project, I've added an "existing item" (path set to the forementioned config file in ModuleA's folder) as a link. The shell launched and the ModuleA made a successful call to the WebServiceA. Currently, I'm working on ModuleB, it also needs to make webservice calls, this time to WebServiceB. The service reference has been added, and a ServiceReference.ClientConfig file has appeared in ModuleB's assembly. I've attempted to add that config file as a link to the shell project as well, but I've failed. Q1 : Is it possible to use multiple ServiceReference.ClientConfig files like this? Q2 : Are there any best-practices for this case? Q3 : Is it possible to rename a *.config or *.ClientConfig file ? How is it done? How do I tell the application what file to use? Edit : Formatting

  • C# Inhieriting DataContract Derived Types

    - by dsjohnston
    I've given a fair read through msdn:datacontracts and I cannot find a out why the following does not work. So what is wrong here? Why isn't ExtendedCanadianAddress recognized by the datacontract serializer? Type 'XYZ.ExtendedCanadianAddress' with data contract name 'CanadianAddress:http://tempuri.org/Common/Types' is not expected. Add any types not known statically to the list of known types - for example, by using the KnownTypeAttribute attribute or by adding them to the list of known types passed to DataContractSerializer. Given: namespace ABC { [KnownType(typeof(Address))] public abstract class Z { //stuff //method that adds all types() in namespace to self } [KnownType(typeof(CanadianAddress))] [DataContact(Name = "Address", Namespace = "http://tempuri.org/Types")] public class Address : Z {} [DataContract(Name = "CanadianAddress", Namespace = "http://tempuri.org/Types")] public class CanadianAddress : Address {} } namespace XYZ { [KnownType(typeof(ExtendedCanadianAddress)) [DataContact(Name = "Address", Namespace = "http://tempuri.org/Types")] public class ExtendedAddress : Address { //this serializes just fine } [DataContact(Name = "CanadianAddress", Namespace = "http://tempuri.org/Types")] public class ExtendedCanadianAddress : CanadianAddress { //will NOT serialize } }

  • OAuth Consumer request for token from ServiceProvider returns InternalServerError

    I'm playing around with DevDefined.OAuth - an OAuth consumer and provider implementation for .Net http://code.google.com/p/devdefined-tools/wiki/OAuth and on launching the ExampleConsumerSite project after configuring the service endpoints on my IIS 7 web server, I'm receiving the following error: Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. On tracing this, the error source is from the line 12 of Default.aspx.cs page: IToken requestToken = session.GetRequestToken(); protected void oauthRequest_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) { OAuthSession session = CreateSession(); IToken requestToken = session.GetRequestToken(); if (string.IsNullOrEmpty(requestToken.Token)) { throw new Exception("The request token was null or empty"); } Session[requestToken.Token] = requestToken; string callBackUrl = "http://localhost:" + HttpContext.Current.Request.Url.Port + "/Callback.aspx"; string authorizationUrl = session.GetUserAuthorizationUrlForToken(requestToken, callBackUrl); Response.Redirect(authorizationUrl, true); } While I'm not sure if this has to do with configuring the service endpoints but I'm running the consumer project from VS2008 and hosting the service on IIS. Please advice.

  • WebSharingAppDemo-CEProviderEndToEnd Queries peerProvider for NeedsScope before any files are batche

    - by Don
    I'm building an application based on the WebSharingAppDemo-CEProviderEndToEnd. When I deploy the server portion on a server, the code gives the error "The path is not valid. Check the directory for the database." during the call to NeedsScope() in the CeWebSyncService.cs file. Obviously the server can't access the client's sdf but what is supposed to happen to make this work? The app uses batching to send the data and the batches have to be marshalled across to the temp directory but this problem is occurring before any files have been batched over. There is nothing for the server to look at to determine whether the peerProivider needs scope. What am I missing? public bool NeedsScope() { Log("NeedsSchema: {0}", this.peerProvider.Connection.ConnectionString); SqlCeSyncScopeProvisioning prov = new SqlCeSyncScopeProvisioning(); return !prov.ScopeExists(this.peerProvider.ScopeName, (SqlCeConnection)this.peerProvider.Connection); }

  • Sync Framework Peer Data Sharing Unable to Catch Conflicts, Source Provider Alwasy wins!

    - by Belliez
    Hi, I am using SQL Server 2008 and the WebSharingAppDemo-SqlProviderEndToEnd sample and this is almost perfect for my needs however I am unable to detect conflicts. By default ConflictResolutionPolicy is set to ApplicationDefined. I have tried setting the ResolutionPolicy to SourceWins, DestinationWins or ApplicationDefined and I always get the same results? The Destination Provider Proxy (Peer) always wins? Can someone please provide a sample of how I can detect a conflict and act upon it or point me in the right direction where I can start to look. I am not sure what to do and where I can create events for detecting collisions. Been staring at this too long now and going around in circles! Thanks in advanced. Paul

  • Webservices on iPhone - wsdl2objc - Sample Code?

    - by markmcgookin
    I have recently downloaded the most recent build of this awesome tool WSDL2OBJC from google code here: http://code.google.com/p/wsdl2objc/ After a bit of tweaking and downloading the latest version of the trunk from the svn repo I got a version that created the code for a WSDL I am using and compiles great and actually installs on my phone! However, I'm not doing anything with it yet, because I am not really sure how to. There is very little in the way of sample code on the site, and there is a sample file in the project if you download it, but again it is very complicated and there are no real bits of documentation. Has anyone managed to successfully use this stuff? It seems SOOO powerful and useful but from a look around the Internet, no one knows how to use it. We (all) would love someone who has figured it out to post a simple project or detailed walk-through of implementing this so we can put the code that lots of people have worked hard on to good use. If anyone has found a blog entry or has this information it would be great to see! I am totally stuck... with no errors. I would love to know how to use this now that it's all compiled successfully!

  • IMetadataExchange endpoint purpose

    - by Paresh.Bijvani
    What is the purpose of IMetadataExchange endpoint. Some places i found that if i dont define this endpoint, adding service reference will not work OR creating proxy using svcutil wont work. But both of this working without having IMetadataExchange defined. If we have other endpoint with httpGetEnabled = true, we are able to create proxy from client. Also, some article says that we should delete IMetadataExchange before moving code to production and it should development period only so that other client cant see metadata. Doesnt this stop the behaviour of service having self describing itself? And if I have defined this IMetadataExchange endpoint, how can i see that on browser. Address whoch i have provided for this endpoint is not pulling any metadata in browser.

  • RIA Services Localization, where to place Resource Files

    - by kmacmahon
    I have the following Solution: SomeProject.Ria (non Silverlight code) SomeProject.Ria.Silverlight (Silverlight light code, namespace is still SomeProject.Ria) SomeProject.Ria.MyServices (RIA Services Domain Service) SomeProject.Ria.MyServices.Proxies (RIA Services Silverlight Generated Code) SomeProject.Shell (Silverlight Applicaiton) SomeProject.Web (Web Application) I would like to use Resource Files for my Annotations on the meta data class in SomeProject.Ria.MyServices. The format for that appears to be: [Required(AllowEmptyStrings=false,ErrorMessageResourceName="ThisFieldIsRequired", ErrorMessageResourceType(MyResource))] Which project does MyResource belong in? (Assuming that someday I need to support other culture files). Also the use of the string in here really seems to breed room for error, is it possible to do something like this and still achieve localization, or does this just get compiled into the meta data? If not, how can I get round the resource name being a string? [Required(AllowEmptyStrings=false,ErrorMessage=MyResources.RequiredMessage)]

  • How to make dynamically generated .net service client read configuration from another location than

    - by Bryan
    Hi, I've currently written code to use the ServiceContractGenerator to generate web service client code based on a wsdl, and then compile it into an assembly in memory using the code dom. I'm then using reflection to set up the binding, endpoint, service values/types, and then ultimately invoke the web service method based on xml configuration that can be altered at run time. This all currently works fine. However, the problem I'm currently running into, is that I'm hitting several exotic web services that require lots of custom binding/security settings. This is forcing me to add more and more configuration into my custom xml configurations, as well as the corresponding updates to my code to interpret and set those binding/security settings in code. Ultimately, this makes adding these 'exotic' services slower, and I can see myself eventually reimplementing the 'system.serviceModel' section of the web or app.config file, which is never a good thing. My question is, and this is where my lack of experience .net and C# shows, is there a way to define the configuration normally found in the web.config or app.config 'system.serviceModel' section somewhere else, and at run time supply this to configuration to the web service client? Is there a way to attach an app.config directly to an assembly as a resource or any other way to supply this configuration to the client? Basically, I'd like attach an app.config only containing a 'system.serviceModel' to the assembly containing a web service client so that it can use its configuration. This way I wouldn't need to handle every configuration under the sun, I could let .net do it for me. Fyi, it's not an option for me to put the configuration for every service in the app.config for the running application. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance! Bryan
