• Unable to understand why Alfresco doesn't start on Tomcat

  I have a problem that I've been inspecting for a while now, googling and everything but could not begin to understand. I'm really not used to java, even less tomcat. So there it is. First, the setup. Centos 5.3 on a virtualized server. Bitnami Native Alfresco stack (tomcat5.5, mysql5, java, javajdk, JDBC) Content of catalina.log. • Why Ubuntu could treat hosts file so strange?

  I have almost fresh Ubuntu desktop box. OS was installed two weeks ago and updated from karmic repositories. Last week I had no problems with DNS. But this week something had changed. I'm not sure what and when, and not sure whether I changed any configs. So now I have some really weird situation. • Resolving "not found" messages after doing ./configure building node.js

  Hello I am trying to install node.js on debian AMD64. I got node.js from git. When I do ./configure a bunch of "checking for program" messages say "not found". I want to resolve all these and ensure everything needed is present. Can anyone suggest what I need to do to resolve the "not found" messages? • Online computer not responding to pings

  I was doing a bit of scanning on my network lately, knew all the hostnames to each computer connected. But whilst pinging one of them ping returned Request timed out.. This is strange as I know the computer is online and that the computer responds correctly to pinging on a different (enterprise) network. Is there something on the computer, my network, or my computer that is bugging with this? - That's just a sub-question, I don't expect this to be the main answer. The real question: Why does this happen? Why does pinging the IP4 address not work? EDIT : Pinging the Hostname used to default to the IP4 address, but now it defaults to the IP6 address. Why does this happen? • Good references to know why has my computers stopped responding me

  Hello all! I´m a windows xp user (but not for much time...) and I usually see how my computer stop of responding me. The process is this: Firsly it became totally stopped or very slow for certain periods of 5 minutes. How could I do? After that it gets stopped (Even not totally because If I click on the bar I see a blinking response in the bar botton of the program I click on. It´s could be anything related with security (like the firewall or some virus)? Computer university: I usually experience this, using Matlab (R2007a) with System Generator (its respective compatible version) My personal laptop: It´s usually works well but when stopped periods became to appears I know in not much time it will became totally stopped. I usually see how Word 2007 get stopped and after a while my windows xp gets stopped. (well I can access to the the manage task pressing ctr+alt and...). The only solution I see is to kill program by program... My petition: Please, I need good references that help me how to think in order to avoid or to manage the problems previously described. Does anyone know usefull books or articles? • why does my computer crash?

  Hi my computer keeps crashing and I don't know why. At first I thought because I had my cpu over clocked that it all of sudden was crashing. So I set my cpu back to regular speed. This did not help. I then thought it was because 2 sticks of my memory where from a computer that suffered from a power surge. However I just ran the windows memory diagnostic tool( extended) and after like 6 hours of testing my memory it found no errors. So now the only thing that is left is windows 7 64bit. I first over clocked my cpu for a couple months while running XP. Never had a problem. I installed the memory and windows 7 at the same time. But I not sure if it is my memory now since it passed the diagnostic tests. However I am not sure if it is windows 7 either has I installed it twice in the last year. I really don't want to go back to XP to find out if this is the case. • Why we can change our IP address?

  I across some websites that offer change of our IP addresses. It says, we can surf net anonymously, including changing our IP address and location. Most of the softwares are not free, so I have not try it out yet. But my question is, so, IP addresses will no longer be unique or valid for identify which computer were sending/request the information? I though only the ISP can determine our IP, so we can change our IP from some commercial softwares huh? Case: If I change my IP address, I go to a website which is supposed to be banned by my country, will the ISP let me pass the check and I will be able to browse the website which should be blocked? another question: From what I know, if we want to go to certain website, here is the flow: My Computer = ISP = Website = ISP = My computer I am not sure, if its the correct flow, but I am sure that, whichever website I want to visit, I need to go through my ISP, isnt it?. So if we change out IP, our ISP will record our new IP or the original(assigned-by-ISP) IP? Sorry for my bad English.

• NTBackup (on WS2k3) fails to backup remote server (WS2k8R2) with " Error: is not a valid drive, or you do not have access."

  We run an NTBackup job on a Windows Server 2003 R2 SP2 with all updates (as of Q4-2011). It works well backing up two WS2k3 servers as well as the backup server itself. However, we have been unable to successfully back up our Windows Server 2008 R2 machine ("G5-01"). It often runs for about 2GB worth of backup and then dies out with one of the below error messages. It should be more like 20GB for the full server. We have tried using the admin share (C$), an explicitly shared drive share, UNC and mapped drives. The result is the same each time, the only thing that varies is the amount of stuff backed up before it chokes. We've also run NTBbackup from the UI interface, from the command line and as a scheduled task. We are backing up to 400/800GB tapes and they have plenty of space available on them (blank media). Error: \\G5-01\c is not a valid drive, or you do not have access. Error: \\G5-01\c$ is not a valid drive, or you do not have access. Error: Y: is not a valid drive, or you do not have access. Error: Could not access or create backup catalog files. Verify that you have full access to the working folder and there is disk space available. The job is run as Administrator and we have no problems logging onto the server and transferring files. The Event Log on the WS2k8 is not much help, as it has success audits for each login. All of the hardware involved (HP DL360 G3, HP LTO Ultrium 3, Adaptec 39320A) has the latest supported drivers. We've seemingly tried a bunch of different options but are wondering where to look next to resolve the backup issue. We've been super happy with our reliable schedule task for years but this one is stumping us!

• Why Are SPF Records Failing?

  Ok I've been going through various different sites, resources and topics here trying to figure out what is wrong with my SPF records but no matter what I do they don't seem to pass. Here's what I have "v=spf1 +a +mx +ip4:217.78.0.92 +ip4:217.78.0.95 -all" I've tried multiple different tools to check my spf records, some give me a pass, some don't. But I can't send mail to certain google app accounts, they just bounce back all the time which is very annoying. Anyone got any ideas? I have noticed that the source IP address is not the IPV4 addresses I've defined, but Cpanel wouldn't let me add that address into it.. And here's the result of tests I'm getting back from port25.com. I'm running WHM by the way and have enabled spf and dkim. • Why still use JPG compression? [closed]

  Back when the JPG image format was introduced, it made a lot of sense to reduce the file size, even accepting a loss in image quality, because files were being downloaded over a slow and expensive modem connection. In today's world, file size is no longer a concern, at least not regarding JPG where it seems silly to save 45kB on a photo. But my image editing apps still prompt me for the desired compression level when I save a file. Does it still make sense to go with the default 85? Why should I not crank it up to 100 for all files? Update based on comments: For web work, I might use PNG instead. But every smartphone and camera produces JPG files. The question arises when I save these edits. Audience is my own harddisk. We're talking photos, 2-5MB apiece. Chroma, subsampling, DCT - sorry, never heard of it. I'm a home user, not Photoshop guru. For the record, I use Paint Shop Pro on Win, and Gimp on Linux.

• Disk (EXT4) suddenly empty without any sign of why

  I have a Ubuntu 10.04 server with several disks in it. The disks are setup with a union filesystem, which presents them all as one logical /home. A few days ago, one of the disks appears to have suddenly 'become empty', for lack of better explanation. The amount of data on the /home mount almost halved within minutes - the disk appears to have had just over 400 GB of data prior to 'becoming empty'. I have absolutely no idea what happened. I was not using the server at the other time, but there are half a dozen other users who may have been (without root access and without the ability to hose a whole disk). I've ran SMART tests on the disk and it comes back clean. The filesystem checks fine (it has 12 GB used now, as some user software continued downloading after the incident). All I know is that around around midnight on October 19, the disk usage changed dramatically: The data points are every 15 minutes, and the full loss occured between captures: 2012-10-18 23:58:03.399647 - has 953.97/2059.07 GB [46.33 percent] 2012-10-19 00:13:15.909010 - has 515.18/2059.07 GB [25.02 percent] Other than that, I have not much to go off :-( I know that: There's nothing interesting in log files at that time Nobody appeared to be logged in via SSH at the time it occured (most users do not even use SSH) The server was online through whatever occured (3 months uptime) None of the other disks were affected and everything else on the server looks completely normal I have tried using "extundelete" on the disk and it didn't really find anything (some temporary files, but they looked new anyway) I am completely at a loss to what could have caused this. I was initially thinking maybe root escalation exploit, but even if someone did maliciously "rm" the disk contents, it would take more than 15 minutes for 400 GB?

  I'm trying to commit some files in my Git repository, and I'm receiving this error. This all started when I ran git rm -rf folder and git rm -rf file and tried to commit the changes. I've since been able to commit and push without these files being deleted from my remote repository, however I'm now completely stuck. The full error is: error: a NUL byte in commit log message not allowed. fatal: failed to write commit object What can I do to fix this? My Google-fu has let me down on this one. Edit: I've just checked out these deleted files, and attempted to commit again, but it's still giving me the same error. Has my Git repo been corrupted or something?

• AMD-V is not enable in virtualbox in amd APU

  I am running Dual core AMD E450 APU. When i tried to run a 64-bit OS that requires hardware virtualization using virtual-box it showed me an error "AMD-V is not enable". My AMD processor should provide AMD-V support. And i can find no option for AMD-V in BIOS. How can i solve this problem? How could i enable AMD-V for my APU? • Unity AddExplosionForce not doing anything

  Recently I've started learning Unity3D. I'm working on a game as an exercise in which you control a space ship and have to dodge asteroids. If you feel like it's getting a bit too much you can hit the space bar, emitting a blast in all directions that repulses nearby asteroids. • Ubuntu tweak not showing all the menus

  Ubuntu-Tweak doesn't have the option Startup which includes Session Manager Session Control and few other options are not there. I am running the latest version available to download. I remember having all those menus in lucid. for a better difference comparison see the menus in the ubuntu tweak homepage http://ubuntu-tweak.com/ with mine.... how can I get these option back. here is the error I get when I run Ubuntu Tweak from terminal ERROR:dbus.proxies:Introspect error on :1.142:/com/ubuntu_tweak/daemon: dbus.exceptions.DBusException: org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.AccessDenied: Rejected send message, 1 matched rules; type="method_call", sender=":1.141" (uid=1000 pid=16550 comm="/usr/bin/python) interface="org.freedesktop.DBus.Introspectable" member="Introspect" error name="(unset)" requested_reply=0 destination=":1.142" (uid=0 pid=16560 comm="/usr/bin/python)) Update: I installed the same deb on another computer and that has nothing wrong. all the menus are listed fine.

• Internet Explorer: Flash 1 item remaining- Movie Not Loaded

  A couple of days ago I started having an issue where if Id go to Youtube.com to look at a Flash movie, Id get to see only a black screen in the movie area. A right click on the movie and Id see Movie not loaded. In addition, the browser status bar reports 1 item remaining basically meaning, Im waiting for this movie to load. Of course, this never goes away. Heres how I fixed it: In Internet Explorer, choose Tools / Internet Options.   I create a camera: camera = new OrthographicCamera(5.0f, 5.0f * h/w); Create a sprite: ballTexture = new Texture(Gdx.files.internal("data/ball.png")); ballTexture.setFilter(TextureFilter.Linear, TextureFilter.Linear); TextureRegion region = new TextureRegion(ballTexture, 0, 0, ballTexture.getWidth(), ballTexture.getHeight()); ball = new Sprite(region); Set the origin, size, and position: ball.setOrigin(ball.getWidth()/2,ball.getHeight()/2); ball.setSize(0.5f, 0.5f * ball.getHeight()/ball.getWidth()); ball.setPosition(0.0f, 0.0f); Then render it: batch.setProjectionMatrix(camera.combined); batch.begin(); ball.draw(batch); batch.end(); But when I render it, the bottom left of my ball sprite is at (0, 0), not the center of it, as I would expect it to be because I set the origin to the center of the sprite. What am I missing?

  I came across this error when i was trying to ajaxify my sharepoint site. After adding the AjaxifyMoss from the codeplex  developed by Richard Finn. And tried loading my site i got the error Error: The base type 'System.Web.UI.MasterPage' is not allowed for this page So  i decided to check the web.config and i noticed the SafeControl tag doesn't have the .Net 2.0 assembly included despite the fact i added both vsersios 2.0 and 3.5. Its possible the.Net  3.5 assebply overwrote the 2.0. Anyway after i added the below which is the 2.0 verison       <SafeControl Assembly="System.Web, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b03f5f7f11d50a3a" Namespace="System.Web.UI" TypeName="*" Safe="True" AllowRemoteDesigner="True" />  And refreshed my page. It worked

• MySQL Workbench will not open on my Ubuntu 12.04

  I have install mysql-workbench version 5.2.38+dfsg-3 via Ubuntu Software Center on my Ubuntu 12.04 laptop for some week ago, This work fine until now! Now when I press in the mysql-workbench icon in the Unity lanuncher, It just start opening and then nothing happens :( If I try start it via the terminal: I get this: http://paste.ubuntu.com/1004428/ UPDATE: I can open it via: sudo mysql-workbench But then is can save my passwords.. it says: voidcode@voidcode-Aspire-5750:~$ sudo mysql-workbench [sudo] password for voidcode: ** Message: Gnome keyring daemon seems to not be available. • Mouse input not updating in custom XNA/Winforms panel

  I have a custom Panel residing within my WinForm. the custom Panel holds the XNA rendering. So far, I've rendered an 3D test model. What I'm doing now is trying to handle the input.Using a camera from another working game, keyboard input works fine moving the camera in all 6 directions. But when it comes to handling the mouse to yaw and pitch the camera, nothing happens. I've searched about to see if anyone has come across this problem, but found no testable solutions to my problem. Does anyone understand as to what may be causing the Mouse not to be called when moved? • Vizio costar mediatomb video loads but does not play

  I setup MediaTomb on 12.04 to stream videos using these inst The Vizio costar I am using as the player sees the server, and starts to load the MP4 video. The video however does not play, the player just exits after a few seconds. There is no mention of errors in the media tomb log. Update- I installed VLC to test the server and it works fine. Perhaps I need a different video server for the costar. I also tested the video by playing it via usb thumbdrive.
