• Another memory leak question

  Hello My application keeps running for 4 to 6 hours, During this time there is no contineous increase in memory or anything similar. Then after 4 to 6 hours i start getting EOutofMemory Exceptions. Even still at that time there is only 900MB out of 3GB RAM is used as per task manager. And application itself is not using more then 200MB . Then why i am getting EOoutofMEmory error ? Does it mean that memory leak is not necessarily visible in task manager ? Regagards

• Showing pagination with only single page using will_paginate

  I'm using will_paginate as standard, but it only shows the pagination controls (< 1 2 etc) when there's more than one page to display. Normally, this would be what is wanted, but I want to see the pagination controls (for UI consistency and to get round an annoying CSS quirk in the system I'm working on) even when there's only 1 page to display (showing < 1 ). Is this possible?

• Use LINQ, to Sort and Filter items in a List<ReturnItem> collection, based on the values within a Li

  This is tricky to explain. We have a DataTable that contains a user configurable selection of columns, which are not known at compile time. Every column in the DataTable is of type String. We need to convert this DataTable into a strongly typed Collection of "ReturnItem" objects so that we can then sort and filter using LINQ for use in our application. We have made some progress as follows: We started with the basic DataTable. We then process the DataTable, creating a new "ReturnItem" object for each row This "ReturnItem" object has just two properties: ID ( string ) and Columns( List(object) ). The properties collection contains one entry for each column, representing a single DataRow. Each property is made Strongly Typed (int, string, datetime, etc). For example it would add a new "DateTime" object to the "ReturnItem" Columns List containing the value of the "Created" Datatable Column. The result is a List(ReturnItem) that we would then like to be able to Sort and Filter using LINQ based on the value in one of the properties, for example, sort on "Created" date. We have been using the LINQ Dynamic Query Library, which gets us so far, but it doesn't look like the way forward because we are using it over a List Collection of objects. Basically, my question boils down to: How can I use LINQ, to Sort and Filter items in a List(ReturnItem) collection, based on the values within a List(object) property which is part of the ReturnItem class?

• Created C header file, getting errors..

  Hi, I'v created a C header file (It's compiled), now when i compile my program it comes up with tons of errors like: warning: null character(s) ignored error: stray ‘\23’ in program TheFunctions.h:1722: error: stray ‘\200’ in program Inside the header file is simply two functions, which work in the normal c program. • Is there a design pattern to cut down on code duplication when subclassing Activities in Android?

  I've got a common task that I do with some Activities - downloading data then displaying it. I've got the downloading part down pat; it is, of course, a little tricky due to the possibility of the user changing the orientation or cancelling the Activity before the download is complete, but the code is there. There is enough code handling these cases such that I don't want to have to copy/paste it to each Activity I have, so I thought to create an abstract subclass Activity itself such that it handles a single background download which then launches a method which fills the page with data. This all works. The issue is that, due to single inheritance, I am forced to recreate the exact same class for any other type of Activity - for example, I use Activity, ListActivity and MapActivity. To use the same technique for all three requires three duplicate classes, except each extends a different Activity. Is there a design pattern that can cut down on the code duplication? As it stands, I have saved much duplication already, but it pains me to see the exact same code in three classes just so that they each subclass a different type of Activity.

• iAd banner gives warning when pushed off screen by navController

  I have a iAd that seems to be correctly displaying but when push a new view controller into the view i get a warning from the iAd that says it has been: WARNING A banner view (0x490fd0) has an ad but may be obscured. This message is only printed once per banner view. But the ad still runs fine so should i pay attention to this? I just tried adding self.adBannerView = nil; [adBannerView release];` just before i push the viewController but i still get that error

  in a double-submitted cookie csrf prevention scheme, is it necessary for the server to provide the cookie? it seems i could have javascript on the clients page generate and set a cookie "anti_csrf", then double submit that (once as a cookie, done by the browser, and once in the body of the request). a foreign domain would not be able to read or write the "anti_csrf" cookie to include it in the body of a request. is this secure, or am i overlooking something?

• What is necessary to run JavaScript files from MS Server 2003?

  I have created some JavaScript files and they run well from my Mac OS X Server. Now I have put the same JavaScript files on my MS Server 2003. But they don't work. Do I have to install something on the server in order to get them work? EDIT: (Sorry, I'm new and English is not my native language, so its hard for me to describe the situation well) I have downloaded this free Ajax Chat app. After enabling PHP on my Mac, it worked. But on my MS Windows 2003 Server it doesn't work. I installed PHP and Apache on Windows. PHP and Apache work well. But everything that uses JavaScript (such as drop down menus or pop-up windows) doesn't work. Thanks!

• How would I authenticate against a local windows user on another machine in an ASP.NET application?

  In my ASP.NET application, I need to be able to authenticate/authorise against local Windows users/groups (ie. not Active Directory) on a different machine, as well as be able to change the passwords of said remote local Windows accounts. Yes, I know Active Directory is built for this sort of thing, but unfortunately the higher ups have decreed it needs to be done this way (so authentication against users in a database is out as well). I've tried using DirectoryEntry and WinNT like so: DirectoryEntry user = new DirectoryEntry(String.Format("WinNT://{0}/{1},User", serverName, username), username, password, AuthenticationTypes.Secure) but this results in an exception when you try to log in more than one user: Multiple connections to a server or shared resource by the same user, using more than one user name, are not allowed. Disconnect all previous connections to the server or shared resource and try again. I've tried making sure my DirectoryEntries are used inside a using block, so they're disposed properly, but this doesn't seem to fix the issue. Plus, even if that did work it is possible that two users could hit that line of code concurrently and therefore try to create multiple connections, so it would be fragile anyway. Is there a better way to authenticate against local Windows accounts on a remote machine, authorise against their groups, and change their passwords? Thanks for your help in advance.

• Which bug in the Delphi IDE / VCL do you despise the most?

For example, there are particular projects I've inherited which, when working on, I cannot use the CTRL+SPACE dropdown symbol list in the Delphi editor without getting an Access Violation error, this would easily top my list but there are many more. I'd like to know which bugs frustrate you the most.

• sql server db deployment script ignoring constraints etc until commit

  Hi all, I am planning on doing a database deployment script for sql server 2005. Currently we have a tool that will run all of the tables, foreign keys, indexes and then data, each of which is located in a separate file with a certain extension (eg. tab, .kci, .fky) and the tool just runs *.tab, *.kci, *.fky into the db etc. Could I possibly combine all of thse into one file and have them run ignoring referential integrity until they are all complete, I would turn it on before we started inserting test data. It is just unmanageable having to maintain 4 or 5 different types of scripts for one table. Are there any issues I should be aware of? Cheers

• Jquery animate negative top and back to 0 - starts messing up after 3rd click

  The site in question is this one: http://www.pickmixmagazine.com/wordpress/ When you click on one of the posts (any of the boxes) an iframe will slide down from the top with the content in it. Once the "Home" button in the top left hand corner of the iframe is clicked, the iframe slides back up. This works perfectly the first 2 times, on the 3rd click on of a post, the content will slide down, but when the home button is clicked, the content slides back up normally but once it has slid all the way up to the position it should be in, the iframe drops straight back down to where it was before the home button was clicked, I click it again and then it works.   I expected these generators to be available: $ rails g Usage: rails generate GENERATOR [args] [options] MiniTest: mini_test:controller mini_test:helper mini_test:install mini_test:mailer mini_test:model mini_test:scaffold So I ran: $ rails g mini_test:install But got this error: Could not find generator mini_test:install. As for my environment, here is the relevant portion of my Gemfile: group :test, :development do gem 'minitest-rails' end And the resulting portions of my Gemfile.lock: minitest (2.12.1) minitest-rails (0.0.7) minitest (~> 2.12) rails (~> 3.1) I am now in the process of debugging this. I would appreciate any tips. In any case, I will report back.

• How can I get an image too big from a server?

  I'm currenty developing for blackberry and just bumped into this problem as i was trying to download an image from a server. The servlet which the device communicates with is working correctly, as I have made a number of tests for it. But it gives me the 413 HTTP error ("Request entity too large"). I figure i will just get the bytes, uhm, portion by portion. How can i accomplish this? • A few problems with Delphi involving Mail Merge, SQL + Databases.

  My first problem is with mail merge. I have created a a Data File and a table, yet I am not able to fill my table with information from my Data File. The << just seems to be inserted after wherever the cursor is on the page, which is not where the table is. All that is entered into the actual table is a '59'. Therefore I think I either need to to change the code or be able to move the cursor. This only happens on one unit and it happens when I add a column with any name anywhere in the table. I know that is vague but I can't seem to narrow down the problem any further than that. • Linq To Sql Entity Updated from Trigger

  I have a Table called Address. I have a Trigger for insert on that table that does some spacial calculations on the address that determines what neighborhood boundaries it is in. address = new Address { Street = this.Street, City = this.City, State = this.State, ZipCode = this.ZipCode, latitude = this.Latitude, longitude = this.Longitude, YearBuilt = this.YearBuilt, LotSize = this.LotSize, FinishedSize = this.FinishedSize, Bedrooms = this.Bedrooms, Bathrooms = this.Bathrooms, UseCode = this.UseCode, HOA = this.HOA, UpdateDate = DateTime.Now }; db.AddToAddresses(address); db.SaveChanges(); In the database i can clearly see that the Trigger ran and updated the neighborhoodID in the address table for the row. I tried to just reload that record to get the assigned id like this: address = (from a in db.Addresses where a.AddressID == address.AddressID select a).First(); In the debugger i can clearly see that the address.AddressID is correct, entity doesn't update in memory. Is there any work around for this?

• When are referenced Assemblies loaded?

  I wrote a program that makes a reference to Microsoft.Web.Administration.dll, which is not present on Windows Server 2003. • How can I access the int values of an object in an NSMutableArray?

  I try to access some values in a NSMutableArray I created, but I only get some numbers (address?) if I try to access them. I was able to initialize an array and can add and change objects with [myNSMutableArray addObject:[NSNumber numberWithInt:10]] and [myNSMutableArray replaceObjectAtIndex:0 withObject:[NSNumber numberWithInt:47] I also can print the value at index [0] with NSLog(@"%@", [myNSMutableArray objectAtIndex:0]); and I get 47 as expected. But how can I access the integer value of the object in the array so I can save it tomyIntValue?

• Making an efficient algorithm

  Here's my recent submission for the FB programming contest (qualifying round only requires to upload program output so source code doesn't matter). The objective is to find two squares that add up to a given value. I've left it as it is as an example. It does the job but is too slow for my liking. Here's the points that are obviously eating up time: List of squares is being recalculated for each call of getNumOfDoubleSquares(). This could be precalculated or extended when needed. Both squares are being checked for when it is only necessary to check for one (complements). There might be a more efficient way than a double-nested loop to find pairs. Other suggestions? • Record/playback keystrokes in textfield using Javascript

  Is it possible to record a user's input into an HTML textfield, and playback at a later date in realtime? One way I can think of would be to capture each keyDown event and the time delta (accurate to a few hundred ms), and store the pairs together. Can you think of a better/more efficient way?

• Force blocking read after EAGAIN?

  I have a file descriptor that is open for reading which may be non-blocking. What I need to do is simply read all data until reaching EOF and write that data to a writable file descriptor. As the process that performs this copying is not "aware" of anything that is going on around it, I don't think that I can do something useful while waiting for data, and I don't want to use a while loop (while errno is not EAGAIN) because I think that it would be wasteful. Is there a way to block or otherwise suspend execution of the copying process until data becomes available?
