• Why is new showat attribute required when using code generation?

  When I generate code using T4 templates in Visual Studio 2010, I get the following error for each of my asp controls when I try to compile: Control "ddState" is missing required attribute "showat". I have never gotten this error in previous versions of .NET. Further, I don't get this error when I manually construct my pages either by dragging/dropping, nor do I get it when I type out the control text myself. When I generate code, I have to manually add showat="client" to my tag for the compiler to be happy. It was my understanding that I never had to explicitly specify this tag. The following: <asp:dropdownlist id="ddState" runat="server" showat="client" /> solves the problem. Why do I have to add this to generated code but not other times? (It's a VS-2010 webforms project, using VB, in case that makes a difference.)

• One account, multiple users, multiple shopping cart in a web application

  I received a somewhat unusual request (imo) for a transactional web site. I have to implement the possibility of having multiple shopping cart for the same user. Those really are shopping carts, not order templates. I.E: A store with several departments ordering under the same account, but with a different person placing orders for a specific department only. Having more than one user per account is not an option since it would involve 'too much' management from the stores owner and the admins. Anyone had to deal with this before? The option so far is to have names for shopping cart, and a dropdown list or something alike after login to choose the cart with some kind of 'busy flag' to lock the cart if it's in use in another session.

• Django - Check users messages every request

  Hi, I want to check if a user has any new messages each time they load the page. Up until now, I have been doing this inside of my views but it's getting fairly hard to maintain since I have a fair number of views now. I assume this is the kind of thing middleware is good for, a check that will happen every single page load. What I need it to do is so: Check if the user is logged in If they are, check if they have any messages Store the result so I can reference the information in my templates Has anyone ever had to write any middleware like this? I've never used middleware before so any help would be greatly appreciated.

• Making Django ignore string literals

  UPDATE: It turns out this is a deeper question than I thought at first glance - the issue is that python is replacing the string literals before they ever get to django. I will do more investigating and update this if I find a solution. I'm using django to work with LaTeX templates for report generation, and am running into a lot of problems with the way Django replaces parts of strings. Specficially, I've run into two problems where I try to insert a variable containing latex code. The first was that it would replace HTML characters, such as the less than symbol, with their HTML codes, which are of course gibberish to a LaTeX interpreter. I fixed this by setting the context to never autoescape, like so: c = Context(inputs) c.autoescape = False However, I still have my second issue, which is that Django replaces string literals with their corresponding characers, so a double backslash becomes \, and \b becomes a backspace. How can I force Django to leave these characters in place, so inputs['variable'] = '{\bf this is code} \\' won't get mangled when I use {{variable}} to reference it in the django template?

  There are multiple times in one page where I need to connect and subsequently query a MySQL database, yet my code won't let me. I think it might be something to do with how my files are nested but it makes no sense. I am opening the SQL connection in the header file. The top of the offending page looks like the following: <?php $page_title = 'Dashboard'; include('templates/header.inc'); // includes a 'require_once('mysqli_connect.php') and a small query to the database; require_once('includes/functions.php'); require_once('includes/dashboard_sql.php'); // Contains functions which connect to database (which are failing.) ?> I get the PHP error Notice: Undefined variable: dbc in /Library/WebServer/Documents/pediatory_site/includes/dashboard_sql.php Where $dbc is the database connection defined in mysqli_connect.php. If anyone could help me out that would be great.

• Reporting system for organization. Architecture advise required

  We have several legacy & 3'd-party systems in organization that use several RDBMS vendors (& more specific data storages). Cross-system data reporting (as well as extra-reports that are not implemented in 3'd-party systems) is required with charts and population of templates (winword, excel). Reporting system is visioned as intranet web-site with custom user access to reports. We expect ~50 reports per day. Would you suggest to use BizTalk or any other integration software if commercial-department doesn't plan to buy anything expensive. Would you suggest to create centralized data storage for reporting that is populated regularly or rely on on-demand services that providers always up-to-request data. Thank you in advance!

• Membership systems for MVC4 that support RavenDB

  I create a lot of quick "proof of concept" MVC apps and I actually found the SimpleMembership provider that shipped with the MVC4 templates to be very handy since it gets me up and running with user registration & OAuth in a matter of minutes. But...I've started to use RavenDb (on RavenHQ for a lot for my projects). So, I starting trying to implement my own "custom membership provider" based on the ExtendedMembershipProvider and while doing that I realized that didn't make much sense. I later stumbled upon 2 interesting projects that try to solve this exact problem: WorldDomination.Web.Auth: https://github.com/PureKrome/WorldDomination.Web.Authentication MemFlex: https://github.com/OdeToCode/Memflex Both are pretty interesting recent efforts and was wondering if these are the only ones being built right now. • Have to put files in static_dir but need to read them afterwards

  I just started using google app engine. In order to use templates, I'm using jinja2. I want to add images dynamically after I set the width and height of the img tag. I used PIL in order to read the image size and put the one I want. However when I open the image with PIL, I need it not to be in a static_dir and to put the image in the img tag, I need it to be in the static_dir. As a testing solution I've copied the folder to see if I get results and I did. But as you can see having each image saved twice is kind of bad.

• Apache Rewrite Excluding Assets Directory

  Hi all I'm writing a mini-MVC application. App architecture: actions/ templates/ site/ app/ styles/ images/ scripts/ So far, I've got a controller working properly, taking in all requests. However, javascript files are not being rendered properly in the browser; I'm getting a 404 Not Found when I try to load the file in the browser. • Alternative to jQuery .data()?

  I'm a big fan of jQuery's .data() method, but I can't always use it. Often times I am rendering html templates that I pass via AJAX and I need to attach metadata to each of the elements in the template. For example: <ul> {% for item in itemlist %} <li metadata="{{ item.metadata }}">{{ item.name }}</li> {% endfor %} </ul> I know attaching attributes to store data is bad practice (and it might not even work in older versions of IE). What is the best practice? Is there a good alternative to this method?

  Hello, At my company we have recently done some tricky stuff with C++ and templates, making use of some features of the compiler. When working with this code people need to take a few setup steps otherwise they get some rather cryptic compiler errors, what I would like to do is determine if there is a way to tell the compiler to inject, and or swap out the message published for an error when compiling? so that I either get a friendly message that instructs the person in conjunction with the cryptic error or instead of the cryptic error. • YUI Image Loader Images Above Fold Not Loading Until Scroll event.

• XSLT compile error when using XslCompiledTransform.Load indirectly called from an application.

  I have a component written in C#. Among other things it performs XSL transform on XML data it collects. When I test this feature using another C# project that uses the component it works just fine. However when I export the component as a COM component and try to use this feature from an application it fails on the XslCompiledTransform.Load command with an XSLT compile error. • In Eclipse, how do I change the default modifiers in the class/type template?

  Eclipse's default template for new types (Window Preferences Code Style Code Templates New Java Files) looks like this: ${filecomment} ${package_declaration} ${typecomment} ${type_declaration} Creating a new class, it'll look something like this: package pkg; import blah.blah; public class FileName { // Class is accessible to everyone, and can be inherited } Now, I'm fervent in my belief that access should be as restricted as possible, and inheritance should be forbidden unless explicitly permitted, so I'd like to change the ${type_declaration} to declare all classes as final rather than public: package pkg; import blah.blah; final class FileName { // Class is only accessible in package, and can't be inherited } That seems easier said than done. The only thing I've found googling is a 2004 question on Eclipse's mailing list which was unanswered. So, the question in short: How can I change the default class/type modifiers in Eclipse? I'm using Eclipse Galileo (3.5) if that matters.

  Suppose I have a list of #defines in a header file for an external library. These #defines represent error codes returned from functions. I want to write a conversion function that can take as an input an error code and return as an output a string literal representing the actual #define name. As an example, if I have #define NO_ERROR 0 #define ONE_KIND_OF_ERROR 1 #define ANOTHER_KIND_OF_ERROR 2 I would like a function to be able to called like int errorCode = doSomeLibraryFunction(); if (errorCode) writeToLog(convertToString(errorCode)); And have convertToString() be able to auto-convert that error code without being a giant switch-case looking like const char* convertToString(int errorCode) { switch (errorCode) { case NO_ERROR: return "NO_ERROR"; case ONE_KIND_OF_ERROR: return "ONE_KIND_OF_ERROR"; ... ... ... I have a feeling that if this is possible, it would be possible using templates and metaprogramming, but that would only work the error codes were actually a type and not a bunch of processor macros.
