• What's the most accurate way to determine user geolocation in the browser?

  I found a few examples suggesting Google AJAX APIs. Other sites seem to know exactly which city I'm in, though, without me entering any information. Suggestions? Is there something cross-browser (ignoring IE6) and reliable?

How do I register a new location provider?

• Multiple Context menus in PyQt based on mouse location

  I have a window with multiple tables using QTableWidget (PyQt). I created a popup menu using the right click mouse and it works fine. However, I need to create different popup menu based on which table the mouse is hovering over at the time the right mouse is clicked. How can I get the mouse to tell me which table it is hovering over? or, put in another way, how to implement a method so as to have a specific context menu based on mouse location? I am using Python and PyQt. • Is the web hosting location important these days?

  I was recently looking at some web hosting solutions and some of the providers offered various hosting locations e.g. US or UK based servers. My question is: does it really make a difference from the performance point of view? Lets say that I am expecting most of the traffic coming from continental Europe? Would the fact that the servers are based in UK make bigger difference if the traffic was coming from the UK. Any pros and cons of having a website hosted in the same county as the most of the expected traffic?

  Hello. Does anyone know how I can get the location of a program that has been installed. My C# WinForm is meant to launch the installer for a program, mainly games, and then be able to detect where that program was installed. Or even if it was installed successfully. Would I have to look in the registery for the location of installed programs? Or is there another way? Thanks for the help!

• European e-government Action Plan all about interoperability

  Yesterday, the European Commission released its European eGovernment Action Plan for 2011-2015. The plan includes measures on providing deeper user empowerment, enhancing the Internal Market, more efficiency and effectiveness of public administrations, and putting in place pre-conditions for developing e-government. The Good - Defines interoperability very clearly. Calls interoperability "a pre-condition for cross-border eGovernment services" (a very strong formulation) and says interoperability "is supported by open specifications". - Uses the terminology "open specifications" which, let's face it, is pretty close to "open standards" which is the term the rest of the world would use. - Confirms that Member States are fully committed to the political priorities of the Malmö Declaration (which was all about open standards) including the very strong action: by 2013: All Member States will have incorporated the political priorities of the Malmö Declaration in their national strategies. Such tight Action Plan integration between Commission and Member State priorities has seldom been attempted before, particularly not in a field where European legal competence is virtually non-existent. What we see now, is the subtle force of soft power rather than the rough force of regulation. In this case, it is the Member States who want Europe to take the lead. Very refreshing! Some quotes that show the commitment to interoperability and open specifications: "The emergence of innovative technologies such as "service-oriented architectures" (SOA), or "clouds" of services,  together with more open specifications which allow for greater sharing, re-use and interoperability reinforce the ability of ICT to play a key role in this quest for effficiency in the public sector." (p.4) "Interoperability is supported through open specifications" (p.13) 2.4.1. Open Specifications and Interoperability (p.13 has a whole section dedicated to this important topic. Open specifications and interoperability are nearly 100% interrelated): "Interoperability is the ability of systems and machines to exchange, process and correctly interpret information. It is more than just a technical challenge, as it also involves legal, organisational and semantic aspects of handling  data" (p.13) "standards and  open platforms offer opportunities for more cost-effective use of resources and delivery of services" (p.13). The Bad Shies away from defining open standards, or even open specifications, the EU's preferred term for the key enabler of interoperability. Verdict 90/100, a very respectable score.

• PeopleSoft Grants & the Federal Agency Letter of Credit Draw Changes

  For decades, most, if not all, US Federal agencies that sponsor research allowed grant recipients to request and receive payments using pooled accounts, commonly known as pooled letter of credit (LOC) draws. This enabled organizations, such as universities and hospitals, fast and efficient access to reimbursement of the expenditures they incurred conducting research across a portfolio of grants. To support this business practice, the PeopleSoft Grants solution has delivered an LOC Draw report to provide the total request amount along with all of the supporting invoice details for reconciliation and audit purposes. Now, in an attempt to provide greater transparency, eliminate fraud, strengthen accountability for grant-related financial transactions, and simplify grant award closeout, many US Federal sponsors are transitioning from the “pooling” letter of credit draw method to requesting on a “grant-by-grant” basis. The National Science Foundation, the second largest issuer of Federal awards, already transitioned to detailed grant draws in 2013. And, in response to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) directive to HHS-supported Agencies, the largest Federal awards sponsor, the National Institutes of Health (NIH), will fully transition to the new HHS subaccount draw method. This will require NIH award recipients to request payments based on actual expenses incurred on an award-by-award basis. NIH is expected to fully transition to this new draw method by the end of Federal fiscal year 2015.  (The NIH had planned to fully transition to this new method by the end of fiscal 2014; however, the impact to institutions was deemed to be significant enough that a reprieve was recently granted.) In light of these new Federal draw requirements, we have recently released these new features to aid our customers on both PeopleSoft Grants releases 9.1 and 9.2:1. Federal Award Identification Number on the Proposal and Award Profile 2. Letter of credit fields on contract lines to support award basis draws and comply with Federal close out mandates3. Process to produce both pro forma and final LOC Draw Reports in BI Publisher report format4. Subacccount ID field on the LOC Summary and a new BI Publisher version of the LOC Summary report 5. Added Subaccount Field and contract info to be displayed on the LOC summary page6. Ability to generate by a variety of dimensions pro forma and invoiced draw listings 7. Queries for generation and manipulation of data to upload into sponsor payment request systems and perform payment matching8. Contracts LOC Close Out query to quickly review final balances prior to initiating final draws and preparing Federal Financial Reports prior to close The PeopleSoft Development team actively monitors this and other major Federal changes and continues working closely with the Grants Product Advisory Group of the Higher Education User Group to ensure a clear understanding of what our customers need in order to transition to new approaches for doing business with the Federal government. • Stumped by "The remote server returned an error: (403) Forbidden" with WCF Service in https

  I have a WCF Service that I have boiled down to next to nothing because of this error. It is driving me up the wall. Here's what I have now. A very simple WCF service with one method that returns a string with the value, "test". A very simple Web app that uses the service and puts the value of the string into a label. A web server running IIS 6 on Win 2003 with a SSL certificate. Other WCF services on the same server that work. I publish the WCF service to it's https location I run the web app in debug mode in VS and it works perfectly. I publish the web app to it's https location on the same server the WCF service resides under the same SSL certificate I get, "The remote server returned an error: (403) Forbidden" I have changed almost every setting in IIS as well as the WCF and Web apps to no avail. I have compared setting in the WCF services that work and everything is the same. Below are the setting in the web.config for the WCF Service and the WEB app: It appears the problem has to do with the Web app but I am out of ideas. • Web service using Data Dynamics ActiveReports occasionally slows down

  My company is running into a problem with a web service that is written in C#/ASP.Net. The service receives an identity key for data in SQL Server and a path to generate and save a PDF report for this data. In most cases, this web service returns results to the calling web pages very quickly, usually within a few seconds max. However, it seems to occasionally hit a significant slowdown. The web application calling the web service will generate a timeout error when this slowdown occurs. We have checked and the PDF does get created and saved to the server, so it looks like the web service eventually finishes executing. It seems to take about 1 to 2 minutes for processing to have completed. The PDF is generated using ActiveReports from Data Dynamics. Wwhen this problem occurs, making a small change to the web service's config file (ie, adding a blank space to a connection string line) seems to restart the web service and everything is perfectly ok for a period of time afterwards. Other web applications that are running on the same web server do not seem to experience this type of behavior, only this particular web service. I have added the code for the web service below. It is basic calls to 3rd party libraries. We are not able to recreate this problem in test. I am wondering what might be causing this issue? • Possible to programatically access X-Mms-Content-Location?

  Is it possible to access the X-Mms-Content-Location attribute of a message from a MMS message programatically, using the Android SDK? This is one example of the error that I am investigating. • web.config + asp.net MVC + location > system.web > authorization + Integrated Security

  Hi guys I have an ASP.Net MVC app using Integrated Security that I need to be able grant open access to a specific route. The route in question is '~/Agreements/Upload' and the config I have setup looks like this: <configuration> ... <location path="~/Agreements/Upload"> <system.web> <authorization> <allow users="*"/> </authorization> </system.web> </location> ... </configuration> I have tried a few things and nothing has worked thus far. In IIS under Directory Security Authentication Methods I only have "Integrated Windows Authentication" selected. Now this could be part of my problem (as even though IIS allows the above IIS doesn't). But if that's the case how do I configure it so that Integrated Security works but allows people who aren't authenticated to access the given route. Cheers Anthony

• Get location of element you just pushed into vector C++

  I am curious about how pushing back into a vector works. I want a way to push back an element and then be able to add it's location in the vector to a double array serving as a type of map. Something like this: // Create a bomb Bomb b; b.currentTime = SDL_GetTicks(); b.explodeTime = SDL_GetTicks() + 3000; b.owner = player; b.power = 2; b.x = x; b.y = y; bombVec.push_back(b); bombs[y][x] = THIS_IS_WHAT_I_WANT; This way when I explode the bomb, I can check the map and then have an ID in the vector to deal with. Every non bomb square will have a -1. Also, just curious. Imagine I have 3 elements in a vector. I delete the second one and then add another. Does the new element go in the same location as the one that was deleted? Thanks!

• PHP header location redirect causing 500 Internal Server error

  Hi, I I keep getting a 500 Internal Server Error when the script below reaches the header('location:php_email_thankyou.php'). Im not sure what is causing this, as I can place the header expression before or after the if statements and it works fine. • GPS not update location after close and reopen app on android

  After I closed my app for a while then reopen it again,my app will not update location or sometime it will take long time( about 5min) before update. How can I fix it? • Location of Embedly (JQuery-Preview) Results

  Embedly/Jquery-Preview has been fantastic. However, I'm trying to change the location of the preview result, and having trouble. Right now, the result appears right below the input field...but I'd rather have it in a separate part of the page. Is there a way to do this? I've tried changing the location of the selector and loading divs, but that hasn't helped. It seems to ignore those divs and put it right below the submit button. • Deal with update location for click-once.

  I'm not sure how many people here are experts with visual studios, but I'd imagine a handful (not to raise expectations but to appeal to your egos :P). I'm working primarily in visual basic for now (though I hope to switch to c# in the near future and maybe a java or web app). Basically I'm trying to create an update feature that will work similarly to how common programs such as firefox or itunes update automatically. There is supposed to be provided functionality for this in what is called click once. I carry out the following procedures and get the following errors when trying to change the update url of my program to a password-protected ftp location. Go to project properties Go to publish click updates click browse click FTP Site Under Server put: web###.opentransfer.com Under Port: 21 Under Directory put: CMSOFT Passive mode is selected (which is what filezilla tells me the server is accessed with) Anonymous User is unselected and a username and password are typed in Push Ok Under Update location it shows: ftp://web###.opentransfer.com/CMSOFT I push Ok I see a message box titled Microsoft Visual Basic 2010 Express with an x icon Publish.UpdateUrl: The string must be a fully qualified URL or UNC path, for example "http://www.microsoft.com/myapplication" or "\server\myapplication". I've tried changing the directory to "CMSOFT/PQCM.exe" and the results are the same...hope this was descriptive enough.

Just before the last upgrade, I was able to mount normally. Other PCs on my network are able to mount too, it's not a server issue. How can I analyse the problem? Certain log files? Any help?

Can I even say that component-based design is my "main" architectural pattern for my game? I see architectural patterns as being more high-level than design pattern. The component-based design in game development's context (like with Unity engine) seems to fit as an architectural pattern to me. However, on some sites, I read that component-based design is a behavioural pattern, much like other behavioural design patterns, and not so much like an architectural pattern like MVC.

• Most efficient way to connect an ISAPI Dll to a windows service

  I am writing a custom server for a client. They want scalability so I must use a thread pool and probably I/O completion port to regulate it. The main requirement is that a windows service manage the HTTP requests for a number of reasons. An example of one would be that a client session spans many requests and continuity must be maintained. Another would be that the ISAPI Dll will be in the IIS address space and so it's code will be lean and very carefully implemented. The extensive processing in the Windows service may get unruly for the duration of the lengthy development. If the service crashes it will not take out IIS. Anyway, the remaining decision is how to have these two processes communicate. We have talked about pipes, tcp, global memory and even a single pipe with multiplexed data ala FastCGI. Would love to hear anyones experience with a decision like this.

• What are the best practices for service accounts?

  We're running several services in our company using a shared domain account. Unfortunately, the credentials for this account are widely distributed and being used frequently for both service and non-service purposes. This has led to a situation where it is possible that the services will be temporarily down due to this shared account being locked. Obviously, this situation needs to change. The plan is to change the services to run under a new account, but I don't think this goes far enough, as that account is subject to the same locking policy. My questions is this: Should we be setting up the service accounts differently than other domain accounts, and if we do, how do we manage those accounts. Please keep in mind that we are running a 2003 domain, and upgrading the domain controller is not a viable solution in the near term.
