• Framework/tool for processing C++ unit tests with numerical output

  Hi, I am working on a C++ application that uses computer vision techniques to identify various types of objects in a sequence of images. The (1000+) images have been hand-classified, so we have an XML file for each image containing a description of where the objects are actually located in the images. I would like to know if there is a testing framework that can understand/graph results from tests that are numeric, in this case some measure of the error in the program's classification of the images, rather than just pass/fail style unit tests. We would like to use something like CDash/CTest for running these automated tests, and viewing over time how improvements to the vision algorithms are causing the images to be more correctly classified. Does anyone know of a tool/framework that can do this?

• Command line tool (PDF Workflow) in OSX that detects if key is down

  Hello! I'm writing a OSX PDF Workflow in ObjC and C. A single executable ("UNIX Tool" as named in the Apple reference), that reads in the spooled PDF file, does some parsing. I'd like to give more functionality by enabling a key-down event handling, meaning - when user opens print dialog in an application - and chooses to left-mouse-click on the custom made pdf workflow to run it - depending on if a keyboard key is down (i.e. option key, but "any key down" would be enough for me) when running that workflow - a decision is made in the code. I have read NSEvent and Carbon Event Manager reference and it seems that in this case (a plain unix executable + not run as root) it's not possible. Or is it? Many thanks in advance, Kroko

  My application have a configuration xml-file. That file contains more than 50 program settings. At the present time I read and save each program setting separately. I guess It is not effi?iently for such tasks. I need something that can auto-generate a code for load and save my program settings using predefined xml-schema. I found a dataset in Add New Item dialog. Unfortunately, i cannot add new code to dataset1 such as events in set-accessors of properties because of this // Changes to this file may cause incorrect behavior and will be lost if // the code is regenerated. Maybe, there is a tool that allows a user to generate a wrapper for accesing a xml-file ? Such as DataSet1, but with availability to add events.

• Tool to maintain a Data Mapping between two systems

  We have XML interfaces between multiple systems. An Enterprise Domain Model is missing in the overall architecture, hence the terms Product/Customer/User means different things to different systems. We currently use excel sheets to map the elements in incoming XML to what the actual Field means within our system. Additionally, it contains the values of Mandatory/Optional and length of each field. We call this the Data Dictionary. Any changes to the XML go through rounds of deliberation and updates to Word and Excel documents. Is there a better way to do this? Any tool/GUI based approach which all systems and owners can view?

• Simple performance testing tool in C#?

  Hi, At first -I need to do it as my university project so I am not interested in using existing tools. I would like to know whether it is even possible to write a very simple tool that I could use for performance testing of web applications. It would only record actions (I do not know, maybe just packet sniffering?) and then replay. However I have basic idea (record packets on port 80 and sending them again), I do not know how to measure time for each transaction as they are not differentiated. Any help is greatly appreciated, thank you!

• Tool to view/plan keyboard shortcuts?

  I'm curious if there are any tools available* that will help me map out keyboard shortcuts for the application I'm working on? Being able to see what combinations are in use, the relationships between normal, ctrl, shift, and alt combinations, and especially what combinations are NOT in use, would be wonderfully helpful. Please forgive me if I am missing an obvious solution, but I've had no luck searching for such a tool myself, due to every application in existence having its own keyboard shortcuts, and all of those being listed on the web. Thanks! *Naturally, I'd prefer free/cheap, but it can't hurt to hear about any expensive options.

• Which reporting tool would you recommend?

  Hi, I have some reporting functionality in my app and I want to improve it a bit. Its only SQL in a XML file which is read by some parser. There can be some params for that SQL and when its parsed and the params are injected, it is executed against my DB (SQL Server). I want to improve that a bit so that the results look better and are more flexible. This are the most important points I need to have: subtotals layout that can change dynamically according to settings in DB (like logo, slogan) possibility to use the same report template for several customers (same fields, but different logos,colors, slogans etc.) should run from an ASP.NET application It should be as dynamic as possible. I know of Crystal Reports and the Microsoft Reporting Tool. Are there any others that might be of interest and are my above points possible at all? Thanks for some ideas and hints :-)...

  Are there any tools available that will let me rebase in git style an SVN branch onto a new parent? So, in the following situation, I create a feature branch, and there are commits to the trunk E---F---G Feature / A---B---C---D--H--I trunk I'm looking for a tool which copies the trunk, and applies the commits one by one, letting me resolve any conflicts if any exist - but each commit retains the same commit message, and is still a separate commit. E'---F'---G' Feature / A---B---C---D--H--I trunk So commit E' will be a commit with the same changes as E, except in the case of E causing a conflict, in which case E' will differ from E in that E' has the conflicts resolved, and the same commit message as E. I'm looking for this as it helps in keeping branches up to date with trunk - the svnmerge.py / mergeinfo way does not help, as you still need to resolve your changes when you merge back to trunk.

• Comparison tool with easy line insertion

  Back in good old days I used to use a tool for file comparison with one incredible feature -- you open file1, file2, see a difference, no magic here. But then you could insert an empty line(s) into file1 with one keyboard combo and into file2 with another keyboard combo. So you could easily adjust how are C / asm function aligned in case diff engine failed to recognize similar stuff. Of course, after the adjust (insertion / removal of one or more lines in either file) whole diff was "recalculated". I fail to find similar feature in diff, KDiff, ... I'd prefer Linux app but I'm OK with Windows app as last resort... Thanks for any hint!

• Running a groovy script created in STS(Spring Tool Suite) using the command line

  I have used the STS(Spring Tool Suite) to create a compiled groovy script which exists as a file on windows called Test.class. I am able to right click on the file in STS and execute it which works well. However - I want to be able to execute the script on the windows command line, so far I have tried various ways but have not been successful. I have tried the following... java -cp C:\Users\MyName\springsource\sts- 3.1.0.RELEASE\plugins\org.codehaus.grails.bundle_2.1.1\content\lib\ org.codehaus.groovy\groovy-all\jars\groovy-all-1.8.8.jar Test.class But that does not work it gives me an error -- Error: Could not find or load main class Test.class Any Pointers?

  We will soon start replacing ClearCase with Mercurial. I hear this is a good thing. The change model vs. the version model. Wave of the future. I'm prepared to believe this. Still, it kind of frightens me.   I am currently working on a project where a lot of user interaction is going to take place. There is also a commercial side as people can buy certain items and services. In my opinion a good blend of user interface, speed and security is essential for these types of websites. It is fairly easy to use ajax and JavaScript nowadays to do almost everything, as there are a lot of libraries available such as jQuery and others. But this can have some performance and incompatibility issues. This can lead to users just going to the next website. The overall look of the website is important too. Where to place certain buttons, where to place certain types of articles such as faq and support. Where and how to display error messages so that the user sees them but are not bothering him. And an overall color scheme is important too. The basic question is: How to create an interface that triggers a user to buy/use your services I know psychology also plays a huge role in how users interact with your website. The color scheme for example is important. When the colors are irritating on a website you just want to click away. I have not found any articles that explain those concept. Does anyone have any tips and/or recourses where i can get some articles that guide you in making the correct choices for your website.

• PHP: tips/resources/patterns for learning to implement a basic ORM

  I've seen various MVC frameworks as well as standalone ORM frameworks for PHP, as well as other ORM questions here; however, most of the questions ask for existing frameworks to get started with, which is not what I'm looking for. (I have also read this SO question but I'm not sure what to make of it, and the answers are vague.) Instead, I figured I'd learn best by getting my hands dirty and actually writing my own ORM, even a simple one. Except I don't really know how to get started, especially since the code I see in other ORMs is so complicated. With my PHP 5.2.x (this is important) MVC framework I have a basic custom database abstraction layer, that has: Very simple methods like connect($host, $user, $pass, $base), query($sql, $binds), etc Subclasses for each DBMS that it supports A class (and respective subclasses) to represent SQL result sets But does not have: Active Record functionality, which I assume is an ORM thing (correct me if I'm wrong) I've read up a little about ORM, and from my understanding they provide a means to further abstract data models from the database itself by representing data as nothing more than PHP-based classes/objects; again, correct me if I am wrong or have missed out in any way. Still, I'd like some simple tips from anyone else who's dabbled more or less with ORM frameworks. Is there anything else I need to take note of, simple example code for me to refer to, or resources I can read? Thanks a lot in advance!

• Is there a current tool to build your boot / partition on hard drive?

  I tried Windows 8 Consumer Preview a couple months ago and it wiped out my partition table... or the boot information. So now the machine cannot boot to anything at all. Is there Ubuntu tools or Linux tool that can fix all the partition and make them boot again? (The partitions have Windows 7 and Vista on them. I run Ubuntu as a VM on Win 7). I tried another tool running on Vista and was able to see the Win 7 partition, except that tool wiped out the Vista boot info later on.

• Making a calendar tool with Google API. Should I use OAuth Service Account?

  I'm creating a calendar tool for a client. He has his work calendars in a Google account, which I have access to. I'll be using the Google Calendar API for the tool, but I'm new to Google APIs and the OAuth stuff. I'll be using PHP. Do I need to use an OAuth2 Service Account, or should I make a regular OAuth2 Web Application Client ID from that Google account? In case this information is helpful, the tool I will be making will do this: 1) Allow my client to fill out a form which will create a new calendar and populate it with several events. 2) Send out an email to a mailing list twice a week listing changes that have been made to these calendars. I'll also be making a page that displays the iframes for each calendar, so his clients may see them even if they do not have a Google account.

Now, my question is: which tool would be best to get started? whiteboard and postit agilezen.com JIRA with greenhopper a spreadsheet (possibly on Google Docs) brightgreenprojects.com Agilo Target Process something else (please specify) Notes about each: I would lean towards the whiteboard, but there are several drawbacks (e.g. cannot make automatic charts, time measurements, metrics, and sometimes I work from home - where I need it most - and it's not convenient to carry :-) I don't want to remember another username/password (I promised to myself to signup only to OpenID-enabled services) My employer has JIRA but my group doesn't use it - I might ask for an account (it shouldn't require another password) and maybe later involve the rest of the group. But I don't know if they are using greenhopper and if it's a big deal installing it. I generally hate spreadsheets maybe overkill? I'd be happy to have a localhost instance, but it could be problematic to give access to the whole group (per network/firewalls) - not a deal-breaker but surely a concern What I'd like to get from this? being more productive tracking how much time I spend in any given task, possibly discussing the issue with my supervisor tracking what "blocks" me most often immediately see where I am compared to my schedule manage in a better way my long todo list (e.g. answering faster to the "what I should do next?" question) Do you have any suggestion?   Hello, First I read this question, but this knowledge did not help to solve my problems. In initial I've created edmx file by Visual Studio. Generated files with names: uqsModel.Designer.cs uqsModel.edmx This files are located on App_Code folder. And my web app work normally. In Web Config generated connectionstring automatically. <add name="uqsEntities" connectionString="metadata=res://*/App_Code.uqsModel.csdl|res://*/App_Code.uqsModel.ssdl|res://*/App_Code.uqsModel.msl;provider=System.Data.SqlClient;provider connection string=&quot;Data Source=aemloviji\sqlexpress;Initial Catalog=uqs;Integrated Security=True;MultipleActiveResultSets=True&quot;" providerName="System.Data.EntityClient" /></connectionStrings> Then I had to generate classes by the instrument edmgen tool(full generation mode). Generated new files with names: uqsModel.cs uqsModel.csdl uqsModel.msl uqsModel.ssdl uqsViews.cs it save new classed to the folder where edmx files located before, and remove existing edmx files. And when page redirrects to any web page server side code fails. And problem: Unable to load the specified metadata resource. Some idea, please.

• Seeking reporting or templating tool to generate large formatted PDF reports from dataset

  Say I have some data in MySQL or a big ole CSV file. I also have a report. It's a PDF, call it 100 pages long. I need to generate variations on this PDF for slices of the data. More specific example: I have a CSV file with each StackOverflow user in a row and each column contains various statistics about that user. I have a report called "Your StackOverflow Performance". Its got lots of text, always the same, but each section contains something like: "You Vs. The Average StackOverflow Poster on this metric". I want a table that appears there that has the average data, which is the same in every run of the PDF, in one column. In the second column, I want your data, which is different for each PDF/row in the CSV file/user of StackOverflow. I'm pretty sure people use things like Crystal for this? Is there something in MS SQL Server that's good for this? An open source template language? I'm not even really sure if what I need is called a 'reporting' tool (since I don't really need to do any crunching, the data in this case is being crunched by a series of scripts and SPSS, I don't need bands and subbands and so on) or 'templating'. Is there even such a thing as templating PDFs? Natch, I'd be fine with something that generates output easily scriptable to PDF, like eps, but not something like HTML. The report formatting is fussy and done and externally determined and handed down from on high. It's print-oriented, not webby. Thanks in advance.

  I have seen this topic discussed several times, but emphasis is on "very good in-line-comparison" here, which was not really covered by those threads. E.g. I would like the tool to recognize and highlight that the resource "colorpicker_newstring" has been added when comparing the following two blocks. WinMerge and Kdiff both fail... Does anyone know a software that does not? I am using Windows. Ah, and I'd prefer free/OS software, of course.
