• Running an Automator task at night

  I've just created an Automator workflow and I'm using crontab to execute it at night. The problem is that, after a while, the machine is going to sleep and a password is required (this is the intended behaviour). Unfortunately, Automator seems to be unable to perform the task when the password is required. It works like a charm if the "password required" dialog is not displayed (before the sleep). Any suggestion on how to solve this?

  I am unable to install PC Tools firewall..It is fine up until after rebooting then the PcTools icon in the system tray hangs and indicates it is "initializing." I have waited 5 minutes and no change. I have tried multiple times.The Vista firewall was turned off prior to attempting to the attempted installation. Help!Thank You

• No Connectivity to ESX guests on one server

  I have a number of ESX servers hosting VM's, all but one of these works ok, however one server has a problem where any guests on not contactable over the network. The ESX hosts is contactable, is integrated int VCenter, and you can even live migrate VM's to and from this server, but any VM's on that server are unable to talk to the rest of the network. The VM's NIC is shown as Up and has the right IP configuration, and as soon as you move it back to another host it works fine.

  I am on a macbook. on ichat, i am unable to initialise video chat. I can see the other person's camera, but the other person is uanble to see mine. What could be the problem? Also, in iChat, if i right click on the other person's name, the option to "Invite to Video Chat" is greyed out. I am using Snow Leopard.

  I have several chrooted users on my server, and I want to install git for specific users. I block at the command : git config --global user.name "user_name" I use this command connected as the user, and I got this error : error: could not lock config file /home/username/.gitconfig: Permission denied I tried to create the file from root, and then put chmod 755 and chown username .gitconfig, but I get the error.   I have been using Seagate free agent GO drives on a windows 2003 server for backup. Sometimes I get a "Delayed Write Failed : Windows was unable to save all the data for the file F:\$Mft." error. I emailed Seagate technical support and the reply was "The product is not supported on Windows 2003 server." The WD elements external USB does not list 2003 as a supported OS. What is a good support external USB drive to use with Windows 2003 server?

What am I missing?

  Windows Server 2008 R2 DFS Replication Is it possible to see which specific files are replicating in real time using a GUI or command line tool or in a log somewhere? I didn't see this in the DFS health reporting, in the DFS event viewer, or the DFS log. The log is pretty cryptic though so it may be in there and I'm unable to see it. I searched through the DFS log for paths and files I know should be replicating and they're not in there.

• Have Ubuntu auto-connect to wireless AP without logging in

  We have an ubuntu box set up to do some monitoring but due to the placement are unable to run CAT5 to the box itself. I have an Atheros PCI card that works great as long as someone is logged into Gnome and it doesn't disconnect from the AP during that time. Is there a way to have Ubuntu connect to the AP during boot, and always reconnect if it finds a signal from a specified AP? The box would have a static IP and only connecting to a specific AP using WEP.

• Wine + InstallShield can't find a locale challenged .msi file

  I am trying to install this cheap old Japanese game I've bought but I can't get past the Installer. The CD contains a File named D:\[Japanese Characters].msi and Installshield running under wine is unable to find it giving me error 1155. I have tried mounting the CD with iocharset=sjis as well as the default utf-8 and also running the installer with and without LANG=ja_JP.Shift-JIS, but it doesn't make a difference. Also the file really is in D:. Any idea?

  I've got a remote appliance, and its disk IO seems to have locked up, trying to run anything that isn't already loaded results in errors like this: $ sudo shutdown -r 0 sudo: Can't open /var/lib/sudo/<machine_name>/0: Read-only file system sudo: unable to execute /sbin/shutdown: Input/output error I have SSH access to the appliance. I'm hoping that restarting the box will fix this (if not I have to go replace the box), but trying to restart it yields the above output. Anyone have any ideas???

It's accessible perfectly to everyone outside of my local network, but since I switched to a Gateway 2Wire DSL modem/router I'm unable to use the domain to access the server from my network.   The broader overarching question (not seeking an answer to this, but wanted to provide context) is how do I ensure that laptops running Microsoft Windows 7 and exposing DMA-ports (eg. firewire) are disabled once the operating system have loaded. Preventing the Firewire-driver from loading once Windows have booted works as expected, but I've been unable to confirm whether this too will disable a Firewire-port exposed through a PCMCIA-card. My question is hence whether disabling the Firewire-driver will also prevent a Firewire-port exposed through a PCMCIA from functioning?
