  • Disable scroll acceleration (windows/lenovo)

    Exactly the opposite of http://superuser.com/questions/101482/global-scroll-acceleration-in-windows, is there a way to disable scroll-accelartion on windows (touchpad -- maybe from lenovo drivers). It's heck of annoying -- using no accelartion but high sensitivity like on linux is so much more precise. ( With this silly acceleration, I either have incredibly slow scrolling, or scrolling so fast it skips whole chunks of text at once. Speed control but not acceleration control. Could say the same for mouse cursor, though that's less annoying. )

  • I noticed the answer to the Aug 2009 question of using VBA to set Custom Flag values

    We are actively using the Follow Up mail feature to assign users to particular mail follow up items. Although mail item follow ups are generally the province of the individual user, by changing the flag value from "Follow Up" to "User name", we can see each other's follow up tasks and group on responsible party. Currently we accomplish the Flag value change manually. My sense is the easiest way to perfect the process is a separate macro for each user. Along the lines of the macro to change the star/end due date to end of month, please define the macro to re-assign the Flag value for each highlighted mail item (previously assigned by default).   • Bitdefender rescue disk does not show my C drive

    My machine (winXP) is infected with virus and I am unable to start my machine. Therefore I have used BitDefender rescue disk to remove the viruses. But I am not able to see my C drive. All other drivers are able to see and scan. Even after I removed all viruses, my machine is not starting. Giving the same error message. I think due to viruse it is not visible to bitdefender. Please help me out. Appreciate your help.

  • Allow WRITE access to local folders machine in 2003SBS AD

    Have a SBS2003 client with a mess of a domain that is in process of being cleaned. But, for the life of me I cannot find a setting that will allow write access to the local hard disk for domain users with redirected profiles(to the server). This is needed only for one program that will not follow a symbolic link to the network path, instead it seems to be hard coded to the %appdata% folder but only on the c: drive.... So question is how can I allow "Domain users" write access to the local %appdata% directory? I have tried setting it manually on a machine but it kept resetting to RO no matter how many times I tried. Every time I would un-check the RO property it would reset sometime right after i hit OK.     I have my msn email account setup with a bunch of folders to put all my different emails in. I don't use rules, just drag and drop sort. On my current computer, I have it go to outlook, and all the folders pop up fine. But I set that up 4 years ago, and now I'm setting up a new laptop and have no idea how to get it going again. Any ideas?

  • Strange behavior of excel 2007 on WinXP

    I'm on a machine that had quite some bloat ware and no update in ages. I made all the updates, removed the bloatware and cleaned using ccleaner. So far so good. Now excel shows some really strange behavior when I open .xls files through windows. The current behavior is: it opens a new excel process window which will then stay empty. One has then to drag the xls file into the window to open it. I would like to restore the default behavior. So far I have tried: running the Microsoft Office Diagnosis copied excel related registry keys from a machine with working excel and imported them had a look into the registry entry for .xls files myself - which seems correct. It was of no use and I'm out of ideas. I would try to avoid a reinstall as we have a very bureaucratic IT department and the machine then would be gone for some undetermined time period. So any idea what to do would be great.

    I'm going to purchase Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor E7500 (3M Cache, 2.93 GHz, 1066 MHz FSB) and for motherboard my local vendor suggesting me to purchase Intel DG41RQ MB motherboard and he is also saying if i'm purchasing Intel CPU then purchasing Intel's Own motherboard with intel chipset will give best performance. Is it true? To get good inbuilt graphic I'm thinking to purchase nvidia chipset based motherboard of any other company like Asus, Gigabyte, MSi etc. is it ok? Although i never play games on my PC but thinking Inbuilt Nvidia graphics will be better for running Photoshop and watching movies then Intel's inbuilt graphics. or it's ok to purchase Intel DG41RQ MB motherborad as suggested by local vendor. Intel's inbuilt graphics would be enough for Photoshop and Watching movies. If you know any other good motherboard for Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor E7500 (3M Cache, 2.93 GHz, 1066 MHz FSB) then tell.

  • Is ThinkPad X61T SD card slot SDXC compatible?

    I have a Thinkpad X61T 7763 tablet and I was planning to buy a 64GB card for the SD card slot. The 64GB card supports the new SDXC standard and I'm not sure if the SD card driver / hardware can handle that. So far, I've successfully used 8GB cards in the slot, but they were SDHC ones. Thinkpad manuals don't give the answer. I wonder if anyone tried this configuration already and what was the outcome.

    I have a dell inspiron mini 10. It boots from an external CD-ROM drive and goes through the first part of the windows XP home install with no problem, but on reboot it loses the CD-Rom drive when it goes into sysprep. Any ideas on how to get around this to complete the install?

  • Slow Starting DHCP Client Service - HP Thin Clients

    We have recently began adding XPe thin clients to our domain in preperation for a new citrix environment. One thing that has been picked up on in testing is that they appear slow to boot. The issue manifest's it's self as the classic "Applying Computer Settings..." screen we are all used to seeing. After digging into the issue it appears the DHCP Client service is taking some time to load on boot, this varies but I would estimate it can take around 1 minute in some cases. I've eliminated the classic issues, DHCP is responding correctly and in quick time. DNS is not the cause and GPO's are applying promptly. A simple workaround is to assign the client a static IP which work's great so the TCP/IP servies are obviously firing up quickly, just not DHCP Client. Does anyone have any idea's on how I may be able to improve the service start time? Keen to find a better solution before I get my arm twisted into setting up 250 thin clients with static addressing!

I've googled around for how to do this, and basically, everyone says to run the Oracle Universal Installer shipped with every Oracle product. I've tried to run it from the Oracle Developer Suite 10g installation kit, but it crashes. Anyone got any ideas?

  • Wiping a laptop from Bios

    I am trying to wipe an old laptops hard drive, it doesn't have a CD drive so have been using a USB to try and wipe the hard drive from the BIOS. I have been using http://www.dban.org/ which I installed as an ISO on the USB Stick. When ever I try to boot into this I get an error saying 'No operating system' Does anyone know of a way to wipe a hard drive? I also tried to boot into safe mode but I just stay on a constant loop.   • TV video constantly skips 1/2 second, plays 1 second; green on bottom

    I just got DirecTV. It worked for a day, but now the TV video constantly skips 1/2 second, then plays 1 second. Also, the bottom 5th of the screen is solid green. The audio does not skip. I tried to do "Set up TV signal" (in Media Center) - but I get an error. See the post I just made here titled "Error - “IR Hardware not detected” - but it’s installed/working." Thanks for your help.

  • My iPhone is stuck at screen with USB cable and iTunes logo

    I just tried updating the iPhone's firmware, and things went haywire. iTunes informed the update had failed and linked me to this page. The iPhone is stuck on the image from the top of that page. I held down the sleep and home buttons until it turned off and turned it back on, and then went through the iPhone's 'restore' mode. It then error'd again and I'm stuck back with the logos on the iPhone. Does anyone know how to fix this? Thanks

  • How do you enable view source in ie8 when it gets magically diabled

    I have multiple computers that all seem to have View Source disabled from the content menu when you right click on a web page. Now I know it's not that the web page is some how disabling it, I'm pretty sure thats not even possible. But alas I have at least 3 machines in my office (not on AD) that have this problem. I have also worked on clients computers that have this same issue. It's down right maddening! I tried to Google for it, but it just shows results from the dawn of IE6 in all of it's "glory" with a bug where if the cache was full it would be disabled. But this is not the case in IE8. Any body have a clue why this is happening, or a fix for it? Maybe a reg setting? Update: So I got a little closer to solving it, but there was still an issue on one computer where it allowed it not is HTTP, but not in HTTPS. One other computer works correctly in both. I Found these two keys missing in the registry: [-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\View Source Editor] [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\View Source Editor]

  • maintaining consistency between program's files and add and remove program

    Would there be any problem if the program is listed in add and remove program and Program Files ? I have some application enlisted in "Add and Remove program" but files has been deleted. Also I have removed some program but it's file are still there and when i try to delete it manually, i get error "Access Denied ....".     I need to emulate a LAN between some machines over the internet to play some LAN only games. I remember that there was software that could do this, but don't remember what it was called. Anyone heard of this, or know of similar solutions that won't require a lot of work? The game is fun, but not fun enough to bother with setting up a VPN server. ;-)
