• Linq based generic alternate to Predicate<T>?

  I have an interface called ICatalog as shown below where each ICatalog has a name and a method that will return items based on a Predicate<Item> function. public interface ICatalog { string Name { get; } IEnumerable<IFamily> GetItems(Predicate<Item> predicate); } A specific implementation of a catalog may be linked to catalogs in various format such as XML, or a SQL database. With an XML catalog I end up deserializing the entire XML file into memory, so testing each item with the predicate function does does not add a whole lot more overhead as it's already in memory. Yet with the SQL implementation I'd rather not retrieve the entire contents of the database into memory, and then filter the items with the predicate function. Instead I'd want to find a way to somehow pass the predicate to the SQL server, or somehow convert it to a SQL query. This seems like a problem that can be solved with Linq, but I'm pretty new to it. Should my interface return IQueryable instead?

• Detect some conflictive characters in a string with javascript

  Hello. I have a file input in a form that uploads a mp3 file, but I´d like to detect conflictive characters to my system in the filename, like ! @ or any other. All codes I´ve found replace these characters, but I just want to detect them to alert the user. I think it will be easy with regular expressions, but I dont know about them. I´m using jquery/javascript. Thanks in advance for your help Edit to improve my problem description: I´m working in a CodeIgniter application that allows user to upload mp3 files to the server. I use jQuery to manage client side forms. The CI upload class converts spaces in the file name to underscores and everything works. But testing the application I uploaded a mp3 file with a (!) in the name, and I got troubles with it. I just want to insert a javascript conditional before the file is uploaded to evaluate if the user´s filename contains a (!) (or any other I´d like to add later) to ask for the file to be renamed if it does.

Reason for asking: I'm calling the passed in global like so: ;(function(foo){ ... foo vs. FOO, anyone else potentially confused? ... }(window.FOO = window.FOO || {})); ... but I just don't like calling that lowercase "foo", considering that the global is called capitalized FOO... It just seems confusing. If I knew the technical name of this technique, I could say: ;(function(technicalname){ ... do something with technicalname, not to be confused with FOO ... }(window.FOO = window.FOO || {})); I've seen a recent (awesome) example where they called it "exports": ;(function(exports){ ... }(window.Lib = window.Lib || {})); I guess I'm just trying to standardize my coding conventions...   Running Maven, Eclipse, and Weblogic, when I try to Run As Server onto my local server, I get this error: "Cannot find the declaration of element 'beans'. at mvc-dispatcher-servlet.xml" Then, when I go back into the xml, select all, copy, delete, and paste, error goes away and I'm able to run the web app just fine on the server.   Can I count on string arrays within the "strings.xml" resource file to be parsed/deserialized in the same order every time? If anyone can cite any documentation that clearly spells out this guarantee, I'd appreciate it. Or, at the very least, offer a significant amount of experience with this topic. Also, is this a best practice or am I missing a simpler solution?   Hi, I have a multiple select field and a jquery function that checks for a change in the select. the function looks for the value "Other", and if it's selected then displays an extra text field. • storing user input into string array in C

  I'm writing a program that is supposed to take in a list of names from the user, store them in an array, and then search through the list to check and see if the next name the user enters is part of the original list of names. The issue I'm having is that when I go to enter a list of names, it only saves the last name entered into the list. I've searched the web and this site for similar issues, but I can't seem to find anything that answers this issue specifically.   Hi guys, I have made a build file for the automated compilation of Oracle Forms files. The failonerror attribute is set to false so that the build file does not exit if a compilation error occurs. Unfortunately, however, though this prevents the build file from exiting when a compilation error occurs, it also appears to make the build file exit the task. This is a problem because, unless the form that does not compile successfully is the last to be tested (based on the filename of the form in alphanumerical decsending order), there will be one or more forms that the build file does not attempt to compile. So, for example, if the folder containing the forms that are desired to be compiled contains 10 forms and the first form does not compile successfully, the build file will not attempt to compile the remaining 9 forms (ie exit the task).   I have over a thousand matrices (6 x 2000, ASCII files, comma delimited) that I generated from MATLAB. I want to get the last row of each matrix / text file and save them in a new matrix / text file. The text files have crazy names so when I load them I can name them whatever. Right now I would do this to achieve my goal: % A = load('crazyname.txt'); % B = load('crazynameagain.txt'); % C = load('crazynameyetagain.txt'); A = [5 5 5; 5 5 5; 1 1 1]; B = [5 5 5; 5 5 5; 2 2 2]; C = [5 5 5; 5 5 5; 3 3 3]; D(1,:)=A(end,:); D(2,:)=B(end,:); D(3,:)=C(end,:); I will create each command (e.g. load, building D step by step) in Excel by combining text cells to create a command. Is there a better way to do this? Could I load / assign the matrices with a name that would better suit them to be used in a for loop? Or is some other MATLAB command that would facilitate this? • Failing to use Array.Copy() in my WPF App

  I am a C++ developer and recently started working on WPF. Well I am using Array.Copy() in my app and looks like I am not able to completely get the desired result. How can achieve this???? :) please help :)
