  • Outer class jframe is not hiding when calling the inner class jframe

    - by user2909960
    When i am calling the inner jframe, it is called, but outer jframe is not hiding. instead it gets overlapped. so what will be the solution for this. Is there any way to get out of this. As i tried when i am calling the inner class frame, the outer class frame is also called, and it is not hidden. package com.exp.example; import java.awt.Color; import java.awt.Container; import java.awt.event.ActionEvent; import java.awt.event.ActionListener; import javax.swing.JButton; import javax.swing.JFrame; import javax.swing.JLabel; import javax.swing.JTextField; @SuppressWarnings("serial") public class A extends JFrame implements ActionListener { JFrame rframe = new JFrame(); JLabel CFirstName; JTextField Cfname; JButton jbsubmit; Container cp; public A() { rframe.setSize(500, 200); rframe.setLocationRelativeTo(null); cp = getContentPane(); cp.setLayout(null); setSize(550, 300); rframe.setTitle("Outer Frame"); cp.setBackground(new Color(140, 180, 180)); CFirstName = new JLabel("First Name"); Cfname = new JTextField(10); jbsubmit = new JButton("PREVIEW"); CFirstName.setBounds(10, 20, 100, 35); Cfname.setBounds(150, 20, 150, 25); jbsubmit.setBounds(190, 110, 92, 25); cp.add(CFirstName); cp.add(Cfname); cp.add(jbsubmit); jbsubmit.addActionListener(this); rframe.add(cp); rframe.setDefaultCloseOperation(JFrame.EXIT_ON_CLOSE); rframe.setVisible(true); } public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent ae) { String action = ae.getActionCommand(); if (action == "PREVIEW") { /* Write the code here * When we click on preview button the frame of outer class(class A) gets * deactivated(closed) and inner frame, frame of inner class(class B) gets visible. * it should not be overlapped. */ /* My Code */ new B(); rframe.setVisible(false); } } public class B { JFrame frm = new JFrame(); Container cp; public B() { frm.setSize(500, 200); frm.setLocationRelativeTo(null); cp = getContentPane(); cp.setLayout(null); setSize(550, 300); frm.setTitle("Inner Frame"); cp.setBackground(new Color(140, 180, 180)); JLabel cpn = new JLabel("hello"); cpn.setBounds(10, 20, 100, 35); cp.add(cpn); frm.add(cp); frm.setDefaultCloseOperation(JFrame.EXIT_ON_CLOSE); frm.setVisible(true); } } public static void main(String[] args) { new A(); } }

  • ScrollPanel in java does not appear JTextarea resizes instead

    - by Casper Marcussen
    Hello everyone My program is finished, but testing it out, i found out that the scrollpanel does not appear, it just resizes the JTextarea instead. The code is provided below: package javaapplication15; import java.awt.Container; import java.awt.FlowLayout; import java.awt.event.ActionEvent; import java.awt.event.ActionListener; import java.io.*; import java.io.IOException; import javax.swing.*; public class Tekstprogram extends JFrame { public Tekstprogram() { setSize(400, 600); setDefaultCloseOperation(EXIT_ON_CLOSE); setResizable(false); Container Indhold = getContentPane(); Indhold.setLayout(new FlowLayout()); JButton openButton = new JButton("Open"); JButton saveButton = new JButton("Save"); final JLabel statusbar = new JLabel("Output of your selection will go here"); final JTextArea TekstOmråde = new JTextArea(29, 30); JScrollPane scrollText = new JScrollPane(TekstOmråde); openButton.addActionListener(new ActionListener() { public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent ae) { JFileChooser chooser = new JFileChooser(); chooser.setMultiSelectionEnabled(true); int option = chooser.showOpenDialog(Tekstprogram.this); if (option == JFileChooser.APPROVE_OPTION) { File[] sf = chooser.getSelectedFiles(); String filelist = "nothing"; if (sf.length > 0) { filelist = sf[0].getName(); } for (int i = 1; i < sf.length; i++) { filelist = filelist + ", " + sf[i].getName(); } try { String strLine; File selectedFile = chooser.getSelectedFile(); FileInputStream in = new FileInputStream(selectedFile); BufferedReader br = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(in)); while ((strLine = br.readLine()) != null) { TekstOmråde.append(strLine + "\n"); } } catch (Exception e) { System.out.println("En fejl opstod ved" + e); } } } }); saveButton.addActionListener(new ActionListener() { public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent ae) { JFileChooser chooser = new JFileChooser(); int option = chooser.showSaveDialog(Tekstprogram.this); if (option == JFileChooser.APPROVE_OPTION) { File file = chooser.getSelectedFile(); try { BufferedWriter out = new BufferedWriter(new FileWriter(file)); out.write(TekstOmråde.getText()); out.close(); } catch (IOException e) { System.out.println("IOException fejl opstod :"); e.printStackTrace(); } } } }); Indhold.add(openButton); Indhold.add(saveButton); Indhold.add(TekstOmråde); Indhold.add(scrollText); Indhold.add(statusbar); } public static void main(String args[]) { Tekstprogram sfc = new Tekstprogram(); sfc.setVisible(true); } } Is there anyway to make the JTexarea static?

  • JDK bug migration: components and subcomponents

    - by darcy
    One subtask of the JDK migration from the legacy bug tracking system to JIRA was reclassifying bugs from a three-level taxonomy in the legacy system, (product, category, subcategory), to a fundamentally two-level scheme in our customized JIRA instance, (component, subcomponent). In the JDK JIRA system, there is technically a third project-level classification, but by design a large majority of JDK-related bugs were migrated into a single "JDK" project. In the end, over 450 legacy subcategories were simplified into about 120 subcomponents in JIRA. The 120 subcomponents are distributed among 17 components. A rule of thumb used was that a subcategory had to have at least 50 bugs in it for it to be retained. Below is a listing the component / subcomponent classification of the JDK JIRA project along with some notes and guidance on which OpenJDK email addresses cover different areas. Eventually, a separate incidents project to host new issues filed at bugs.sun.com will use a slightly simplified version of this scheme. The preponderance of bugs and subcomponents for the JDK are in library-related areas, with components named foo-libs and subcomponents primarily named after packages. While there was an overall condensation of subcomponents in the migration, in some cases long-standing informal divisions in core libraries based on naming conventions in the description were promoted to formal subcomponents. For example, hundreds of bugs in the java.util subcomponent whose descriptions started with "(coll)" were moved into java.util:collections. Likewise, java.lang bugs starting with "(reflect)" and "(proxy)" were moved into java.lang:reflect. client-libs (Predominantly discussed on 2d-dev and awt-dev and swing-dev.) 2d demo java.awt java.awt:i18n java.beans (See beans-dev.) javax.accessibility javax.imageio javax.sound (See sound-dev.) javax.swing core-libs (See core-libs-dev.) java.io java.io:serialization java.lang java.lang.invoke java.lang:class_loading java.lang:reflect java.math java.net java.nio (Discussed on nio-dev.) java.nio.charsets java.rmi java.sql java.sql:bridge java.text java.util java.util.concurrent java.util.jar java.util.logging java.util.regex java.util:collections java.util:i18n javax.annotation.processing javax.lang.model javax.naming (JNDI) javax.script javax.script:javascript javax.sql org.openjdk.jigsaw (See jigsaw-dev.) security-libs (See security-dev.) java.security javax.crypto (JCE: includes SunJCE/MSCAPI/UCRYPTO/ECC) javax.crypto:pkcs11 (JCE: PKCS11 only) javax.net.ssl (JSSE, includes javax.security.cert) javax.security javax.smartcardio javax.xml.crypto org.ietf.jgss org.ietf.jgss:krb5 other-libs corba corba:idl corba:orb corba:rmi-iiop javadb other (When no other subcomponent is more appropriate; use judiciously.) When the system gets closer to being externalized, I plan to post more blog entries describing recommended use of various custom fields in the JDK project.

  • How to debug a native Java crash on Linux?

    - by Paul J. Lucas
    I've seen this question and this article on how to debug a native Java crash. The article is with respect to Windows. What are the equivalent debugging aids on Linux? Note: All I have is this crash log from a user in the field. I do not have access to the machine on which the crash occurred. Update: I am pretty sure the crash is due to JNI code we have. I never meant to imply that it was the JVM itself that was faulty. Per request, here is the crash dump (or as much of it as will fit in the 30K stackoverflow limit): # # An unexpected error has been detected by Java Runtime Environment: # # SIGSEGV (0xb) at pc=0x06300e76, pid=9983, tid=4106996592 # # Java VM: Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (1.6.0_03-b05 mixed mode, sharing) # Problematic frame: # V [libjvm.so+0x300e76] # # If you would like to submit a bug report, please visit: # http://java.sun.com/webapps/bugreport/crash.jsp # --------------- T H R E A D --------------- Current thread (0x0922e000): VMThread [id=9985] siginfo:si_signo=11, si_errno=0, si_code=1, si_addr=0x00000008 Registers: EAX=0x00000008, EBX=0x88a829b3, ECX=0x88a829b0, EDX=0xa7d6c1dc ESP=0xf4cbba5c, EBP=0xf4cbba68, ESI=0xa7d6d1d8, EDI=0x00000404 EIP=0x06300e76, CR2=0x00000008, EFLAGS=0x00010202 Top of Stack: (sp=0xf4cbba5c) 0xf4cbba5c: a7d6c1c8 0920cc30 aa0de5c0 f4cbba98 0xf4cbba6c: 063517d7 cf8f2a20 a7d6c1c8 0920cc30 0xf4cbba7c: 0920cc30 00000000 00000000 6d224c40 0xf4cbba8c: 00000001 f4cbbbb0 0920b440 f4cbbab8 0xf4cbba9c: 061dd4df 0920cc30 f4cbbb10 f4cbbac8 0xf4cbbaac: 0633cb7e 0643b5b8 f4492968 f4cbbad8 0xf4cbbabc: 061dcd68 f4cbbaf0 0920cc30 f4cbbaf8 0xf4cbbacc: 061df31e f4cbbb10 d4cbcc2c f4cbbb08 Instructions: (pc=0x06300e76) 0x06300e66: 82 39 f2 73 34 90 8d 74 26 00 8b 02 85 c0 74 22 0x06300e76: 8b 18 80 3d 45 10 42 06 00 74 0c 89 d8 31 c9 83 Stack: [0xf4c3c000,0xf4cbd000), sp=0xf4cbba5c, free space=510k Native frames: (J=compiled Java code, j=interpreted, Vv=VM code, C=native code) V [libjvm.so+0x300e76] V [libjvm.so+0x3517d7] V [libjvm.so+0x1dd4df] V [libjvm.so+0x1dcd68] V [libjvm.so+0x1dc3cc] V [libjvm.so+0x1d4c52] V [libjvm.so+0x1d32cc] V [libjvm.so+0x1d4229] V [libjvm.so+0x1dc82a] V [libjvm.so+0x1d1d34] V [libjvm.so+0x186125] V [libjvm.so+0x1d20bc] V [libjvm.so+0x3b2cbe] V [libjvm.so+0x3c5037] V [libjvm.so+0x3c46bc] V [libjvm.so+0x3c488a] V [libjvm.so+0x3c446f] V [libjvm.so+0x30b719] C [libpthread.so.0+0x5cb2] VM_Operation (0xf2b60728): generation collection for allocation, mode: safepoint, requested by thread 0x09449c00 --------------- P R O C E S S --------------- Java Threads: ( = current thread ) 0x092afc00 JavaThread "RawImageCache" daemon [_thread_blocked, id=10026] 0xf37d1000 JavaThread "TimerQueue" daemon [_thread_blocked, id=10022] 0x09410000 JavaThread "SunTileScheduler0Standard7" daemon [_thread_blocked, id=10021] 0x0940f000 JavaThread "SunTileScheduler0Standard6" daemon [_thread_blocked, id=10020] 0x0946fc00 JavaThread "SunTileScheduler0Standard5" daemon [_thread_blocked, id=10019] 0x0946e800 JavaThread "SunTileScheduler0Standard4" daemon [_thread_blocked, id=10018] 0x0946d400 JavaThread "SunTileScheduler0Standard3" daemon [_thread_blocked, id=10017] 0x0946c000 JavaThread "SunTileScheduler0Standard2" daemon [_thread_blocked, id=10016] 0x0946ac00 JavaThread "SunTileScheduler0Standard1" daemon [_thread_blocked, id=10015] 0x0946a000 JavaThread "SunTileScheduler0Standard0" daemon [_thread_blocked, id=10014] 0x0944a800 JavaThread "Image List Poller" [_thread_blocked, id=10012] 0x09449c00 JavaThread "Image Task Queue" [_thread_blocked, id=10011] 0xf37e3c00 JavaThread "Laf-Widget fade tracker" [_thread_blocked, id=10010] 0x094abc00 JavaThread "FileCacheMonitor" daemon [_thread_blocked, id=10009] 0xf37e3800 JavaThread "DestroyJavaVM" [_thread_blocked, id=9984] 0xf37ee400 JavaThread "Thread-6" daemon [_thread_blocked, id=10006] 0xf3a7c800 JavaThread "DirectoryMonitor.MonitorThread" daemon [_thread_blocked, id=10005] 0xf3a73800 JavaThread "AWT Watchdog" daemon [_thread_blocked, id=10004] 0xf3adb800 JavaThread "TileReaper" daemon [_thread_blocked, id=10003] 0x093c3c00 JavaThread "process reaper" daemon [_thread_in_native, id=10001] 0x093ac800 JavaThread "Timer-0" daemon [_thread_blocked, id=9999] 0x093a8c00 JavaThread "AWT-EventQueue-0" [_thread_blocked, id=9997] 0x093a8000 JavaThread "AWT-Shutdown" [_thread_blocked, id=9996] 0x09378c00 JavaThread "AWT-XAWT" daemon [_thread_blocked, id=9994] 0x09368400 JavaThread "Java2D Disposer" daemon [_thread_blocked, id=9993] 0x09350000 JavaThread "Thread-1" daemon [_thread_blocked, id=9992] 0x0923b400 JavaThread "Low Memory Detector" daemon [_thread_blocked, id=9990] 0x09239c00 JavaThread "CompilerThread0" daemon [_thread_blocked, id=9989] 0x09238800 JavaThread "Signal Dispatcher" daemon [_thread_blocked, id=9988] 0x09230800 JavaThread "Finalizer" daemon [_thread_blocked, id=9987] 0x0922f400 JavaThread "Reference Handler" daemon [_thread_blocked, id=9986] Other Threads: =0x0922e000 VMThread [id=9985] 0x09245000 WatcherThread [id=9991] VM state:at safepoint (normal execution) VM Mutex/Monitor currently owned by a thread: ([mutex/lock_event]) [0x09205178/0x092051a0] Threads_lock -   • Groovy: How to access objects with Id tag?

    - by skifan0
    Hello, I have the following Groovy+SwingBuilder code. In one panel I generate checkboxes and in another panel I want to access the values of the checkboxes. The code looks basically likes this: def optionsmap = [ foo : "value_foo", bar : "value_bar"] SwingBuilder.build() { frame(title:'demo1', size:[400,700], visible:true, defaultCloseOperation:WC.EXIT_ON_CLOSE) { gridLayout(rows: 1, cols: 2) panel(id:'optionPanel', constraints:java.awt.BorderLayout.CENTER) { gridLayout(rows: 5, cols: 1) myGroup = buttonGroup(); for (entry in optionsmap) { checkBox(id: entry.key, text: entry.value ) } } panel(constraints:java.awt.BorderLayout.WEST) { button ('Show values', actionPerformed: { for (entry in optionsmap) { println (entry.key as Class).text } }) } } } optionsmap is a map with (id, text) pairs that can be extended. When I press "show values" I get an error message: org.codehaus.groovy.runtime.typehandling.GroovyCastException: Cannot cast object 'foo' with class 'java.lang.String' to class 'java.lang.Class' How could I access the checkboxes for my action in the second panel by using the checkbox ids from optionsmap? Thank you if you can help

  • How do you implement position-sensitive zooming inside a JScrollPane?

    - by tucuxi
    I am trying to implement position-sensitive zooming inside a JScrollPane. The JScrollPane contains a component with a customized 'paint' that will draw itself inside whatever space it is allocated - so zooming is as easy as using a MouseWheelListener that resizes the inner component as required. But I also want zooming into (or out of) a point to keep that point as central as possible within the resulting zoomed-in (or -out) view (this is what I refer to as 'position-sensitive' zooming), similar to how zooming works in google maps. I am sure this has been done many times before - does anybody know the "right" way to do it under Java Swing?. Would it be better to play with Graphic2D's transformations instead of using JScrollPanes? Sample code follows: package test; import java.awt.*; import java.awt.event.*; import java.awt.geom.*; import javax.swing.*; public class FPanel extends javax.swing.JPanel { private Dimension preferredSize = new Dimension(400, 400); private Rectangle2D[] rects = new Rectangle2D[50]; public static void main(String[] args) { JFrame jf = new JFrame("test"); jf.setDefaultCloseOperation(JFrame.EXIT_ON_CLOSE); jf.setSize(400, 400); jf.add(new JScrollPane(new FPanel())); jf.setVisible(true); } public FPanel() { // generate rectangles with pseudo-random coords for (int i=0; i<rects.length; i++) { rects[i] = new Rectangle2D.Double( Math.random()*.8, Math.random()*.8, Math.random()*.2, Math.random()*.2); } // mouse listener to detect scrollwheel events addMouseWheelListener(new MouseWheelListener() { public void mouseWheelMoved(MouseWheelEvent e) { updatePreferredSize(e.getWheelRotation(), e.getPoint()); } }); } private void updatePreferredSize(int n, Point p) { double d = (double) n * 1.08; d = (n > 0) ? 1 / d : -d; int w = (int) (getWidth() * d); int h = (int) (getHeight() * d); preferredSize.setSize(w, h); getParent().doLayout(); // Question: how do I keep 'p' centered in the resulting view? } public Dimension getPreferredSize() { return preferredSize; } private Rectangle2D r = new Rectangle2D.Float(); public void paint(Graphics g) { super.paint(g); g.setColor(Color.red); int w = getWidth(); int h = getHeight(); for (Rectangle2D rect : rects) { r.setRect(rect.getX() * w, rect.getY() * h, rect.getWidth() * w, rect.getHeight() * h); ((Graphics2D)g).draw(r); } } }

  • Unselecting RadioButtons in Java Swing

    - by Thomas
    When displaying a group of JRadioButtons, initially none of them is selected (unless you programmatically enforce that). I would like to be able to put buttons back into that state even after the user already selected one, i.e., none of the buttons should be selected. However, using the usual suspects doesn't deliver the required effect: calling 'setSelected(false)' on each button doesn't work. Interestingly, it does work when the buttons are not put into a ButtonGroup - unfortunately, the latter is required for JRadioButtons to be mutually exclusive. Also, using the setSelected(ButtonModel, boolean) - method of javax.swing.ButtonGroup doesn't do what I want. I've put together a small program to demonstrate the effect: two radio buttons and a JButton. Clicking the JButton should unselect the radio buttons so that the window looks exactly as it does when it first pops up. import java.awt.Container; import java.awt.GridLayout; import java.awt.event.*; import javax.swing.*; /** * This class creates two radio buttons and a JButton. Initially, none * of the radio buttons is selected. Clicking on the JButton should * always return the radio buttons into that initial state, i.e., * should disable both radio buttons. */ public class RadioTest implements ActionListener { /* create two radio buttons and a group */ private JRadioButton button1 = new JRadioButton("button1"); private JRadioButton button2 = new JRadioButton("button2"); private ButtonGroup group = new ButtonGroup(); /* clicking this button should unselect both button1 and button2 */ private JButton unselectRadio = new JButton("Unselect radio buttons."); /* In the constructor, set up the group and event listening */ public RadioTest() { /* put the radio buttons in a group so they become mutually * exclusive -- without this, unselecting actually works! */ group.add(button1); group.add(button2); /* listen to clicks on 'unselectRadio' button */ unselectRadio.addActionListener(this); } /* called when 'unselectRadio' is clicked */ public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent e) { /* variant1: disable both buttons directly. * ...doesn't work */ button1.setSelected(false); button2.setSelected(false); /* variant2: disable the selection via the button group. * ...doesn't work either */ group.setSelected(group.getSelection(), false); } /* Test: create a JFrame which displays the two radio buttons and * the unselect-button */ public static void main(String[] args) { JFrame frame = new JFrame(); frame.setDefaultCloseOperation(JFrame.EXIT_ON_CLOSE); RadioTest test = new RadioTest(); Container contentPane = frame.getContentPane(); contentPane.setLayout(new GridLayout(3,1)); contentPane.add(test.button1); contentPane.add(test.button2); contentPane.add(test.unselectRadio); frame.setSize(400, 400); frame.setVisible(true); } } Any ideas anyone? Thanks!

  • Beginning with event listeners

    - by terence6
    I have a simple app, showing picture made of tiled images(named u1, u2,...,u16.jpg). Now I'd like to add some Events to it, so that I can show these images only when proper button is clicked. I've tried doing it on my own, but it's not working. Where am I doing something wrong? Original code : import java.awt.GridLayout; import javax.swing.*; import javax.swing.border.BevelBorder; public class Tiles_2 { public static void main(String[] args) { final JFrame f = new JFrame("Usmiech"); JPanel panel = new JPanel(new GridLayout(4, 4, 3, 3)); JLabel l = new JLabel(); for (int i = 1; i < 17; i++) { String path = "u"+ i+".jpg"; l = new JLabel(new ImageIcon(path)); l.setBorder(BorderFactory.createBevelBorder(BevelBorder.RAISED)); panel.add(l); } f.setContentPane(panel); f.setSize(300, 300); f.setDefaultCloseOperation(JFrame.EXIT_ON_CLOSE); f.setVisible(true); } } New code : import java.awt.GridLayout; import javax.swing.*; import javax.swing.border.BevelBorder; import java.awt.event.*; public class Zad_8_1 implements ActionListener { public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent e) { JButton b = (JButton)(e.getSource()); String i = b.getText(); b = new JButton(new ImageIcon("u"+i+".jpg")); } public static void main(String[] args) { final JFrame f = new JFrame("Smile"); JPanel panel = new JPanel(new GridLayout(4, 4, 3, 3)); JButton l = null; for (int i = 1; i < 17; i++) { String path = "u"+ i+".jpg"; l = new JButton(""+i); l.setBorder(BorderFactory.createBevelBorder(BevelBorder.RAISED)); l.setSize(53,53); panel.add(l); } f.setContentPane(panel); f.setSize(300, 300); f.setDefaultCloseOperation(JFrame.EXIT_ON_CLOSE); f.setVisible(true); } } This should work like this : http://img535.imageshack.us/img535/3129/lab8a.jpg

  • Netbeans Java SE GUI Builder: private initComponents() problem

    - by maSnun
    When I build a GUI for my Java SE app with Netbeans GUI builder, it puts all the codes in the initComponents() method which is private. I could not change it to public. So, all the components are accessible only to the class containing the UI. I want to access those components from another class so that I can write custom event handlers and everything. Most importantly I want to separate my GUI code and non-GUI from each other. I can copy paste the GUI code and later make them public by hand to achieve what I want. But thats a pain. I have to handcraft a portion whenever I need to re-design the UI. What I tried to do: I used the variable identifier to make the text box public. Now how can I access the text box from the Main class? I think I need the component generated in a public method as well. I am new to Java. Any helps? Here's the sample classes: The UI (uiFrame.java) /* * To change this template, choose Tools | Templates * and open the template in the editor. */ /* * uiFrame.java * * Created on Jun 3, 2010, 9:33:15 PM */ package barcode; import java.util.logging.Level; import java.util.logging.Logger; import javax.swing.JFileChooser; import javax.swing.UIManager; import javax.swing.UnsupportedLookAndFeelException; import net.sourceforge.barbecue.output.OutputException; /** * * @author masnun */ public class uiFrame extends javax.swing.JFrame { /** Creates new form uiFrame */ public uiFrame() { try { try { // Set cross-platform Java L&F (also called "Metal") UIManager.setLookAndFeel(UIManager.getSystemLookAndFeelClassName()); } catch (ClassNotFoundException ex) { Logger.getLogger(uiFrame.class.getName()).log(Level.SEVERE, null, ex); } catch (InstantiationException ex) { Logger.getLogger(uiFrame.class.getName()).log(Level.SEVERE, null, ex); } catch (IllegalAccessException ex) { Logger.getLogger(uiFrame.class.getName()).log(Level.SEVERE, null, ex); } catch (UnsupportedLookAndFeelException ex) { Logger.getLogger(uiFrame.class.getName()).log(Level.SEVERE, null, ex); } } finally { } initComponents(); } /** This method is called from within the constructor to * initialize the form. * WARNING: Do NOT modify this code. • JLabel not displaying all the characters even after dynamically changing font size

    - by wniroshan
    Hi all, I am trying to fit a sentence that changes often, in to a few jlabels. Widths of my 3 jlabels stay unchanged all the time. What I am doing is changing the font size so all the characters can fit with out non being out of the display range of the labels. What I do is call below code snippet when ever sentence is changed. Here is my code String sentence = "Some long sentence"; int SentenceLength = sentence.length(); int FontSize = 0; // sum of widths of the three labels int TotalLblLength=lbl_0ValueInWords.getWidth()+lbl_1ValueInWords.getWidth()+lbl_1ValueInWords.getWidth(); /*decide the font size so that all the characters can be displayed with out exceeding the display renge(horizontal) of the 3 labels Inconsolata -> monopace font font size == width of the font*2 (something I observed, not sure if this is true always) */ FontSize=(TotalLblLength/SentenceLength)*2; // max font size is 20 - based on label height FontSize=(FontSize>20)?20:FontSize; lbl_0ValueInWords.setFont(new java.awt.Font("Inconsolata", 0,FontSize)); lbl_1ValueInWords.setFont(new java.awt.Font("Inconsolata", 0,FontSize)); lbl_2ValueInWords.setFont(new java.awt.Font("Inconsolata", 0,FontSize)); int CharCount_lbl0 = width_lbl0 / (FontSize / 2); int CharCount_lbl1 = width_lbl1 / (FontSize / 2); int CharsCount_lbl2 = width_lbl2 / (FontSize / 2); /*Set texts of each label if sentence has more than the number of characters that can fit in the 1st label, excessive characters are moved to the 2nd label. same goes for the 2nd and 3rd labels*/ if (SentenceLength > CharCount_lbl0) { lbl_0ValueInWords.setText(sentence.substring(0, CharCount_lbl0)); if (SentenceLength > CharCount_lbl0 + CharCount_lbl1) { lbl_1ValueInWords.setText(sentence.substring(CharCount_lbl0, CharCount_lbl0 + CharCount_lbl1)); lbl_2ValueInWords.setText(sentence.substring(CharCount_lbl0 + CharCount_lbl1, SentenceLength)); } else { lbl_1ValueInWords.setText(sentence.substring(CharCount_lbl0, SentenceLength)); } } else { lbl_0ValueInWords.setText(sentence); } But even after resetting font size sometimes the last character goes out of the display range. I have removed margines from the jlabels that may cause this. This happens for random length sentences. I can solve the problem for the application by reducing label width used for the calculations(hopefully) Can anyone explain me the reason? Could be because of some defect in the fonts symmetry?

What I want is handling the event when the user clicks on the oval import java.awt.*; import java.awt.event.MouseEvent; import java.awt.event.MouseListener; import javax.swing.*; public class Gui2 extends JFrame { JFrame frame = new JFrame(); MyDrawPanel drawpanel = new MyDrawPanel(); public static void main(String[] args) { Gui2 gui = new Gui2(); gui.go(); } public void go() { frame.getContentPane().add(drawpanel); // frame.addMouseListener(this); frame.setDefaultCloseOperation(JFrame.EXIT_ON_CLOSE); frame.setSize(300, 300); frame.setVisible(true); } } class MyDrawPanel extends JComponent implements MouseListener { public void paintComponent(Graphics g) { int red = (int) (Math.random() * 255); int green = (int) (Math.random() * 255); int blue = (int) (Math.random() * 255); Color startrandomColor = new Color(red, green, blue); red = (int) (Math.random() * 255); green = (int) (Math.random() * 255); blue = (int) (Math.random() * 255); Color endrandomColor = new Color(red, green, blue); Graphics2D g2d = (Graphics2D) g; this.addMouseListener(this); GradientPaint gradient = new GradientPaint(70, 70, startrandomColor, 150, 150, endrandomColor); g2d.setPaint(gradient); g2d.fillOval(70, 70, 100, 100); } @Override public void mouseClicked(MouseEvent e) { if ((e.getButton() == 1) && (e.getX() >= 70 && e.getX() <= 170 && e.getY() >= 70 && e .getY() <= 170)) { this.repaint(); // JOptionPane.showMessageDialog(null,e.getX()+ "\n" + e.getY()); } } @Override public void mouseEntered(MouseEvent e) { // TODO Auto-generated method stub } @Override public void mouseExited(MouseEvent e) { // TODO Auto-generated method stub } @Override public void mousePressed(MouseEvent e) { // TODO Auto-generated method stub } @Override public void mouseReleased(MouseEvent e) { // TODO Auto-generated method stub } } This Works Except it fires when the click is within a virtual box around the oval. Could anyone help me to have it fire when the click is EXACTLY on the oval. Thanks in advance.
