  • Switch XML value for another in google maps

    - by JeffP
    all thanks for taking a look. Problem: Using Google maps I need to switch catid value to another value. How would I approach this and display it in a the window. E.G var catid = { 2: { newcatid: 'london' }, 4: { newcatid: 'newyork' } }; function load() { var map = new google.maps.Map(document.getElementById("map"), { center: new google.maps.LatLng(47.6145, -122.3418), zoom: 5, mapTypeId: 'roadmap' }); var infoWindow = new google.maps.InfoWindow; // Change this depending on the name of your PHP file downloadUrl("index_xml.php", function(data) { var xml = data.responseXML; var markers = xml.documentElement.getElementsByTagName("marker"); for (var i = 0; i < markers.length; i++) { var name = markers[i].getAttribute("title"); var address = markers[i].getAttribute("address"); var catid = markers[i].getAttribute("catid"); var point = new google.maps.LatLng( parseFloat(markers[i].getAttribute("latitude")), parseFloat(markers[i].getAttribute("langtitude"))); var html = "<b>" + name + "</b> <br/>" + address + "<br/>" + **catid** + "<br/> <a href='@'>Info</a>" ;

    - by misguided
    I am trying to learn a lot more about the Google Maps API in Android. I have seen the boston tutorials , which are very helpful in learning a lot of things related to android . But unfortunately , the tutorial talks about a earlier version on Google Maps API. I was wondering if there are any other sites which the experts would recommend(other than the reference on actual developers.google.com website). PS: specifically looking for android with latest version of google maps .References other than the one of developers.google.com

  • Integrating Silverlight BING Maps with SharePoint 2010

    - by Sahil Malik
    Ad:: SharePoint 2007 Training in .NET 3.5 technologies (more information). Okay this video is super duper cool! You’ve heard of bing.com right? Have you tried out the silverlight maps on bing? WHAT? YOU HAVEN’T!? DAMMIT! You should! Seriously, the bing silverlight maps are way way way cooler than their google counterpart. They are simply mindblowing. Now, what if I told you, you could integrate those, and the power of the bing geocoding api, AND, the bing search engine, AND routing capabilities, all on a silverlight map, and throw in the Yahoo geocoding api over a REST interface, all running inside SharePoint? No seriously! I am not joking! In this video, I demonstrate exactly the above, all integrated and running happily inside of SharePoint 2010. Note that you can also make this work in SharePoint 2007. I used the Telerik Silverlight Controls to make all this happen. And as always, only about 2% of the video is slides, all of the rest is all hands-on code. The entire application, is written right in front of your eyes, in about an hour. Plenty of good stuff here in this video Hope you like it! Have fun! Comment on the article ....

  • New Bing Maps

    - by MikeParks
    Normally I don't stray too far from Programming and TFS on my blog posts but I'm just really impressed with how much Silverlight has improved Bing maps. I use to be big on MapQuest, then hopped over to Google, but now the new Bing Maps have everything I need. The two coolest features are right on the main page. All you have to do is go to http://www.bing.com/maps/explore/, enter your city and hit enter in the search box, then look in the lower left corner under the EXPLORE section. Check out the "What's nearby" and "Restaurants" links. The best part is, if you're interested in doing any Silverlight programming, they have a Bing Maps Silverlight Control Interactive SDK. I was thinking about coding something....but they've pretty much got it down :) Pretty impressive stuff.

  • Bing Maps - how to link to a push pin from a link outside the map

    - by Rajah
    I have a Virtual Earth Maps (Bing Maps??) to which I have added a set of pushpins. Each pushpin is labelled 1 to n. In addition to adding pushpins to the map, I also add text to the web-page that contains the description to each pushpin. I would like to add a link to the text outside the map, that when clicked will open the balloon associated with the corresponding pushpin. How do I open the balloon associated with a pushpin, through a link that exists outside the map? To get a better understanding, look at my map: link. When you click load, PushPins are added to the map. I would like to have a link from the list on the right of the map, that opens the corresponding PushPin. Thanks in advance!

  • Framework/App for custom maps(not general google maps)

    - by Franz Xaver
    Hi! I've started to develop in Android 2 weeks ago and until now, I like it! Currently I am working on a project where I have to display an individual map (not a google maps view, I'd like to display the map of a building's interior) with which the user can interact(mark positions, etc.). Is there a framework or an existing app that I could use? Of course I searched the internet but could not find anything. Perhaps it is in some way possible to use the google maps API? I hope you can help me, thanks in advance!

  • Why does Bing webmaster tool's SEO analyzer complain about multiple <h1> tags?

    - by Mathew Foscarini
    I used the Bing webmaster tool's SEO analyzer on my website, and it reported: There are multiple tags on the page. It recommends that there should only be one <h1> tag on the page. The page is a listing of blog posts for a category. So each blog entry is structured like this. <article> <header><h1><a>...</a></h1></header> <p>summary...</p> </article> <article> <header><h1><a>...</a></h1></header> <p>summary...</p> </article> <article> <header><h1><a>...</a></h1></header> <p>summary...</p> </article> <article> <header><h1><a>...</a></h1></header> <p>summary...</p> </article> How is this invalid? I thought this was the correct way to describe a post in HTML5.

  • Alternative to google map api, so that I can use it on a HTTPS/SSL encrypted website.

    - by Zeeshan Rang
    I did find a solution for this on Google map api page, and I made the following changes as mentioned in it. 1.Use Google Maps API for Flash version 1.9a or later. 2.Add the following to your Flash application before the map is instantiated: Security.allowInsecureDomain("maps.googleapis.com"); Ref:http://code.google.com/apis/maps/faq.html#flash_ssl My code looks like this, after the changes: <mx:TitleWindow verticalAlign="middle" horizontalAlign="center" xmlns:mx="http://www.adobe.com/2006/mxml" xmlns:maps="com.google.maps.*" width="1000" height="600" layout="absolute" backgroundAlpha="0" borderAlpha="0" borderThickness="0" showCloseButton="true" close="PopUpManager.removePopUp(this);"> <mx:VBox width="70%" height="100%" > <maps:Map id="map" key="ABQIAAAA0L1JEoR6rWjh-BBQnLMtMBSVuZ5VlaqlIqiYPFMK_I5M2UTmHhSq_BJxLHiYcTDW9RxSF6HewNY7uA" mapevent_mapready="onMapReady(event)" width="100%" height="100%" /> </mx:VBox> <mx:Script> <![CDATA[ //import flashx.textLayout.formats.Direction; import mx.effects.AddItemAction; //import flashx.textLayout.factory.TruncationOptions; import mx.controls.Alert; import mx.managers.PopUpManager; import mx.rpc.events.ResultEvent; import com.adobe.serialization.json.JSON; import flash.events.Event; import com.google.maps.*; import com.google.maps.overlays.*; import com.google.maps.services.*; import com.google.maps.controls.ZoomControl; import com.google.maps.controls.PositionControl; import com.google.maps.controls.MapTypeControl; import com.google.maps.services.ClientGeocoderOptions; import com.google.maps.LatLng; import com.google.maps.Map; import com.google.maps.MapEvent; import com.google.maps.MapMouseEvent; import com.google.maps.MapType; import com.google.maps.services.ClientGeocoder; import com.google.maps.services.GeocodingEvent; import com.google.maps.overlays.Marker; import com.google.maps.overlays.MarkerOptions; import com.google.maps.InfoWindowOptions; private function onMapReady(event:MapEvent):void { Security.allowInsecureDomain("maps.googleapis.com"); map.setCenter(new LatLng(41.651505,-72.094455), 13, MapType.NORMAL_MAP_TYPE); map.addControl(new ZoomControl()); map.addControl(new PositionControl()); map.addControl(new MapTypeControl()); map.enableScrollWheelZoom(); map.enableContinuousZoom(); } ]]> </mx:Script> </mx:TitleWindow> But i still get the following error using this: The requested URL /mapsapi/publicapi?file=flashapi&url=https%3A%2F%2Fvirtual.c7beta.com%2Findex_cloud.swf&key=ABQIAAAA0L1JEoR6rWjh-BBQnLMtMBTW_Qkp6J0z76Etz3qzo8Hg3HdUQhSnD6lqp53NB0UrBmg5Xm2DlazWqA&v=1.18&flc=xt was not found on this server.   • What sort of loop structure to compare checkbox matrix with Google Maps markers?

    - by Kirkman14
    I'm trying to build a map of trails around my town. I'm using an XML file to hold all the trail data. For each marker, I have categories like "surface," "difficulty," "uses," etc. I have seen many examples of Google Maps that use checkboxes to show markers by category. However these examples are usually very simple: maybe three different checkboxes. What's different on my end is that I have multiple categories, and within each category there are several possible values. So, a particular trail might have "use" values of "hiking," "biking," "jogging," and "equestrian" because all are allowed. I put together one version, which you can see here: http://www.joshrenaud.com/pd/trails_withcheckboxes3.html In this version, any trail that has any value checked by the user will be displayed on the map. This version works. (although I should point out there is a bug where despite only one category being checked on load, all markers display anyway. After your first click on any checkbox, the map will work properly) However I now realize it's not quite what I want. I want to change it so that it will display only markers that match ALL the values that are checked (rather than ANY, which is what the example above does). I took a hack at this. You can see the result online, but I can't type a link to it because I am new user. Change the "3" in the URL above to a "4" to see it. My questions are about this SECOND url. (trails_withcheckboxes4.html) It doesn't work. I am pretty new to Javascript, so I am sure I have done something totally wrong, but I can't figure out what. My specific questions: Does anyone see anything glaringly obvious that is keeping my second example from working? If not, could someone just suggest what sort of loop structure I would need to build to compare the several arrays of checkboxes with the several arrays of values on any given marker? Here is some of the relevant code, although you can just view source on the examples above to see the whole thing: function createMarker(point,surface,difficulty,use,html) { var marker = new GMarker(point,GIcon); marker.mysurface = surface; marker.mydifficulty = difficulty; marker.myuse = use; GEvent.addListener(marker, "click", function() { marker.openInfoWindowHtml(html); }); gmarkers.push(marker); return marker; } function show() { hide(); var surfaceChecked = []; var difficultyChecked = []; var useChecked = []; var j=0; // okay, let's run through the checkbox elements and make arrays to serve as holders of any values the user has checked. for (i=0; i<surfaceArray.length; i++) { if (document.getElementById('surface'+surfaceArray[i]).checked == true) { surfaceChecked[j] = surfaceArray[i]; j++; } } j=0; for (i=0; i<difficultyArray.length; i++) { if (document.getElementById('difficulty'+difficultyArray[i]).checked == true) { difficultyChecked[j] = difficultyArray[i]; j++; } } j=0; for (i=0; i<useArray.length; i++) { if (document.getElementById('use'+useArray[i]).checked == true) { useChecked[j] = useArray[i]; j++; } } //now that we have our 'xxxChecked' holders, it's time to go through all the markers and see which to show. for (var k=0; k<gmarkers.length; k++) { // this loop runs thru all markers var surfaceMatches = []; var difficultyMatches = []; var useMatches = []; var surfaceOK = false; var difficultyOK = false; var useOK = false; for (var l=0; l<surfaceChecked.length; l++) { // this loops runs through all checked Surface categories for (var m=0; m<gmarkers[k].mysurface.length; m++) { // this loops through all surfaces on the marker if (gmarkers[k].mysurface[m].childNodes[0].nodeValue == surfaceChecked[l]) { surfaceMatches[l] = true; } } } for (l=0; l<difficultyChecked.length; l++) { // this loops runs through all checked Difficulty categories for (m=0; m<gmarkers[k].mydifficulty.length; m++) { // this loops through all difficulties on the marker if (gmarkers[k].mydifficulty[m].childNodes[0].nodeValue == difficultyChecked[l]) { difficultyMatches[l] = true; } } } for (l=0; l<useChecked.length; l++) { // this loops runs through all checked Use categories for (m=0; m<gmarkers[k].myuse.length; m++) { // this loops through all uses on the marker if (gmarkers[k].myuse[m].childNodes[0].nodeValue == useChecked[l]) { useMatches[l] = true; } } } // now it's time to loop thru the Match arrays and make sure they are all completely true. for (m=0; m<surfaceMatches.length; m++) { if (surfaceMatches[m] == true) { surfaceOK = true; } else if (surfaceMatches[m] == false) {surfaceOK = false; break; } } for (m=0; m<difficultyMatches.length; m++) { if (difficultyMatches[m] == true) { difficultyOK = true; } else if (difficultyMatches[m] == false) {difficultyOK = false; break; } } for (m=0; m<useMatches.length; m++) { if (useMatches[m] == true) { useOK = true; } else if (useMatches[m] == false) {useOK = false; break; } } // And finally, if each of the three OK's is true, then let's show the marker. if ((surfaceOK == true) && (difficultyOK == true) && (useOK == true)) { gmarkers[i].show(); } } }

  • Why my Google listing not showing up in maps.google.com search?

    - by Business Inelligence
    Why my Google local listing not showing up even if searched with exact title in maps.Google.com? Its showing mostly results from US when searched. My bi solution company map location listing comes up when searched with company name from Google web search, but not showing up in maps.Google. Is Google places or map listing different from Google local listing?. I have done my listing in Google local. If they are different is there any way to take the local listing to Google place or Google map also. My listing is a claimed one with 100 percent completed profile details.

  • Virtual Earth (Bing) Pin "moves" when zoom level changes

    - by Ali
    Hi guys, Created a Virtual Earth (Bing) map to show a simple pin at a particular point. Everything works right now - the pin shows up, the title and description pop up on hover. The map is initially fully zoomed into the pin, but the STRANGE problem is that when I zoom out it moves slightly lower on the map. So if I started with the pin pointing somewhere in Toronto, if I zoom out enough the pin ends up i the middle of Lake Ontario! If I pan the map, the pin correctly stays in its proper location. When I zoom back in, it moves slightly up until it's back to its original correct position! I've looked around for a solution for a while, but I can't understand it at all. Please help!! Thanks a lot! import with javascript: http://ecn.dev.virtualearth.net/mapcontrol/mapcontrol.ashx?v=6.2 $(window).ready(function(){ GetMap(); }); map = new VEMap('birdEye'); map.SetCredentials("hash key from Bing website"); map.LoadMap(new VELatLong(43.640144 ,-79.392593), 1 , VEMapStyle.BirdseyeHybrid, false, VEMapMode.Mode2D, true, null); var pin = new VEShape(VEShapeType.Pushpin, new VELatLong(43.640144 ,-79.392593)); pin.SetTitle("Goes to Title of the Pushpin"); pin.SetDescription("Goes as Description."); map.AddShape(pin);

  • HttpWebRequest does has empty response requesting a search from Bing

    - by Jarrod Maxwell
    I have the following code that sends a HttpWebRequest to Bing. When I request the url below though it returns what appears to be an empty response when it should be returning a list of results. var response = string.Empty; var httpWebRequest = WebRequest.Create("http://www.bing.com/search?q=stackoverflow&count=100") as HttpWebRequest; httpWebRequest.Method = WebRequestMethods.Http.Get; httpWebRequest.Headers.Add("Accept-Language", "en-US"); httpWebRequest.UserAgent = "Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Win32)"; httpWebRequest.Headers.Add(HttpRequestHeader.AcceptEncoding, "gzip,deflate"); using (var httpWebResponse = httpWebRequest.GetResponse() as HttpWebResponse) { Stream stream = null; using (stream = httpWebResponse.GetResponseStream()) { if (httpWebResponse.ContentEncoding.ToLower().Contains("gzip")) stream = new GZipStream(stream, CompressionMode.Decompress); else if (httpWebResponse.ContentEncoding.ToLower().Contains("deflate")) stream = new DeflateStream(stream, CompressionMode.Decompress); var streamReader = new StreamReader(stream, Encoding.UTF8); response = streamReader.ReadToEnd(); } } Its pretty standard code for requesting and receiving a web page. Any ideas why the response is empty? Thanks in advance. EDIT I left off a query string parameter in the url. I also had &count=100 which I have now corrected. It seems to work for values of 50 and below but returns nothing when larger. This works ok when in the browser, but not for this web request. It makes me think the issue is that the response is large and HttpWebResponse is not handling that for me the way I have it set up. Just a guess though.

  • bing search api ajax does not work

    - by jhon
    Hi guys, I want to use the Bing's search api with javascript. Actually, I want the user to write something and query Bing in order to get just images. so, I tried it using ajax. If I try the url http://api.search.live.net/xml.aspx?Appid=[YOURAPIKEY]&sources=image&query=home directly (with the browser) I do get an xml document. but if I use XMLHttpRequest it does not work. <html> <body> <script> var xhr = new XMLHttpRequest(); var url="http://api.search.live.net/xml.aspx?Appid=[YOURAPIKEY]&sources=image&query=home" xhr.open("GET", url, true ); xhr.onreadystatechange=function(){ /*if( xhr.readyState == 4 && xhr.status == 200) { document.write( xhr.responseText ); }*/ alert( xhr.readyState +" "+xhr.status +xhr.statusText +xhr); }; xhr.send(null); </script> </body> </html> Questions: 1) why does the code from above does not work? 2) any other way to do this without XMLHttpRequest? thanks. btw. I'm just interested in fix this for Firefox and without external libraries (jquery and so on).

  • Bing Maps - Auto update location binding of pushpins

    - by abp
    Hi I'm using the Bing Maps control to display a series of custom pushpins, representing objects which are constantly moving around and changing state. Using databinding the various properties for the objects are being updated as they should, but for some reason this doesn't apply to their locations. I have the map bound to an ObservableCollection as such: <UserControl.Resources> <DataTemplate x:Key="PushpinTemplate"> <v:CustomPushpin /> </DataTemplate> </UserControl.Resources> ... <m:Map Name="map"> <m:MapItemsControl ItemTemplate="{StaticResource PushpinTemplate}" ItemsSource="{Binding Objects}" /> </m:Map> ...and in CustomPushpin: <UserControl ... m:MapLayer.Position="{Binding Location}" m:MapLayer.PositionOrigin="BottomCenter" mc:Ignorable="d" d:DesignHeight="126" d:DesignWidth="85"> Like all other properties, the Location of the individual objects are implemented using INotifyPropertyChanged. private Location _location; public Location Location { get { return _location; } set { _location = value; OnPropertyChanged("Location"); } } When the map is moving, either because of panning or zooming, the objects move, but othersize not. I can't quite figure if I'm doing something wrong here, or if it's a problem with the Bing Maps control. Any thought?

  • Setting up and using Bing Translate API Service for Machine Translation

    - by Rick Strahl
    Last week I spent quite a bit of time trying to set up the Bing Translate API service. I can honestly say this was one of the most screwed up developer experiences I've had in a long while - specifically related to the byzantine sign up process that Microsoft has in place. Not only is it nearly impossible to find decent documentation on the required signup process, some of the links in the docs are just plain wrong, and some of the account pages you need to access the actual account information once signed up are not linked anywhere from the administration UI. To make things even harder is the fact that the APIs changed a while back, with a completely new authentication scheme that's described and not directly linked documentation topic also made for a very frustrating search experience. It's a bummer that this is the case too, because the actual API itself is easy to use and works very well - fast and reasonably accurate (as accurate as you can expect machine translation to be). But the sign up process is a pain in the ass doubtlessly leaving many people giving up in frustration. In this post I'll try to hit all the points needed to set up to use the Bing Translate API in one place since such a document seems to be missing from Microsoft. Hopefully the API folks at Microsoft will get their shit together and actually provide this sort of info on their site… Signing Up The first step required is to create a Windows Azure MarketPlace account. Go to: https://datamarket.azure.com/ Sign in with your Windows Live Id If you don't have an account you will be taken to a registration page which you have to fill out. Follow the links and complete the registration. Once you're signed in you can start adding services. Click on the Data Link on the main page Select Microsoft Translator from the list This adds the Microsoft Bing Translator to your services. Pricing The page shows the pricing matrix and the free service which provides 2 megabytes for translations a month for free. Prices go up steeply from there. Pricing is determined by actual bytes of the result translations used. Max translations are 1000 characters so at minimum this means you get around 2000 translations a month for free. However most translations are probable much less so you can expect larger number of translations to go through. For testing or low volume translations this should be just fine. Once signed up there are no further instructions and you're left in limbo on the MS site. Register your Application Once you've created the Data association with Translator the next step is registering your application. To do this you need to access your developer account. Go to https://datamarket.azure.com/developer/applications/register Provide a ClientId, which is effectively the unique string identifier for your application (not your customer id!) Provide your name The client secret was auto-created and this becomes your 'password' For the redirect url provide any https url: https://microsoft.com works Give this application a description of your choice so you can identify it in the list of apps Now, once you've registered your application, keep track of the ClientId and ClientSecret - those are the two keys you need to authenticate before you can call the Translate API. Oddly the applications page is hidden from the Azure Portal UI. I couldn't find a direct link from anywhere on the site back to this page where I can examine my developer application keys. To find them you can go to: https://datamarket.azure.com/developer/applications You can come back here to look at your registered applications and pick up the ClientID and ClientSecret. Fun eh? But we're now ready to actually call the API and do some translating. Using the Bing Translate API The good news is that after this signup hell, using the API is pretty straightforward. To use the translation API you'll need to actually use two services: You need to call an authentication API service first, before you can call the actual translator API. These two APIs live on different domains, and the authentication API returns JSON data while the translator service returns XML. So much for consistency. Authentication The first step is authentication. The service uses oAuth authentication with a  bearer token that has to be passed to the translator API. The authentication call retrieves the oAuth token that you can then use with the translate API call. The bearer token has a short 10 minute life time, so while you can cache it for successive calls, the token can't be cached for long periods. This means for Web backend requests you typically will have to authenticate each time unless you build a more elaborate caching scheme that takes the timeout into account (perhaps using the ASP.NET Cache object). For low volume operations you can probably get away with simply calling the auth API for every translation you do. To call the Authentication API use code like this:/// /// Retrieves an oAuth authentication token to be used on the translate /// API request. The result string needs to be passed as a bearer token /// to the translate API. /// /// You can find client ID and Secret (or register a new one) at: /// https://datamarket.azure.com/developer/applications/ /// /// The client ID of your application /// The client secret or password /// public string GetBingAuthToken(string clientId = null, string clientSecret = null) { string authBaseUrl = https://datamarket.accesscontrol.windows.net/v2/OAuth2-13; if (string.IsNullOrEmpty(clientId) || string.IsNullOrEmpty(clientSecret)) { ErrorMessage = Resources.Resources.Client_Id_and_Client_Secret_must_be_provided; return null; } var postData = string.Format("grant_type=client_credentials&client_id={0}" + "&client_secret={1}" + "&scope=http://api.microsofttranslator.com", HttpUtility.UrlEncode(clientId), HttpUtility.UrlEncode(clientSecret)); // POST Auth data to the oauth API string res, token; try { var web = new WebClient(); web.Encoding = Encoding.UTF8; res = web.UploadString(authBaseUrl, postData); } catch (Exception ex) { ErrorMessage = ex.GetBaseException().Message; return null; } var ser = new JavaScriptSerializer(); var auth = ser.Deserialize<BingAuth>(res); if (auth == null) return null; token = auth.access_token; return token; } private class BingAuth { public string token_type { get; set; } public string access_token { get; set; } } This code basically takes the client id and secret and posts it at the oAuth endpoint which returns a JSON string. Here I use the JavaScript serializer to deserialize the JSON into a custom object I created just for deserialization. You can also use JSON.NET and dynamic deserialization if you are already using JSON.NET in your app in which case you don't need the extra type. In my library that houses this component I don't, so I just rely on the built in serializer. The auth method returns a long base64 encoded string which can be used as a bearer token in the translate API call. Translation Once you have the authentication token you can use it to pass to the translate API. The auth token is passed as an Authorization header and the value is prefixed with a 'Bearer ' prefix for the string. Here's what the simple Translate API call looks like:/// /// Uses the Bing API service to perform translation /// Bing can translate up to 1000 characters. /// /// Requires that you provide a CLientId and ClientSecret /// or set the configuration values for these two. /// /// More info on setup: /// http://www.west-wind.com/weblog/ /// /// Text to translate /// Two letter culture name /// Two letter culture name /// Pass an access token retrieved with GetBingAuthToken. /// If not passed the default keys from .config file are used if any /// public string TranslateBing(string text, string fromCulture, string toCulture, string accessToken = null) { string serviceUrl = "http://api.microsofttranslator.com/V2/Http.svc/Translate"; if (accessToken == null) { accessToken = GetBingAuthToken(); if (accessToken == null) return null; } string res; try { var web = new WebClient(); web.Headers.Add("Authorization", "Bearer " + accessToken); string ct = "text/plain"; string postData = string.Format("?text={0}&from={1}&to={2}&contentType={3}", HttpUtility.UrlEncode(text), fromCulture, toCulture, HttpUtility.UrlEncode(ct)); web.Encoding = Encoding.UTF8; res = web.DownloadString(serviceUrl + postData); } catch (Exception e) { ErrorMessage = e.GetBaseException().Message; return null; } // result is a single XML Element fragment var doc = new XmlDocument(); doc.LoadXml(res); return doc.DocumentElement.InnerText; } The first of this code deals with ensuring the auth token exists. You can either pass the token into the method manually or let the method automatically retrieve the auth code on its own. In my case I'm using this inside of a Web application and in that situation I simply need to re-authenticate every time as there's no convenient way to manage the lifetime of the auth cookie. The auth token is added as an Authorization HTTP header prefixed with 'Bearer ' and attached to the request. The text to translate, the from and to language codes and a result format are passed on the query string of this HTTP GET request against the Translate API. The translate API returns an XML string which contains a single element with the translated string. Using the Wrapper Methods It should be pretty obvious how to use these two methods but here are a couple of test methods that demonstrate the two usage scenarios:[TestMethod] public void TranslateBingWithAuthTest() { var translate = new TranslationServices(); string clientId = DbResourceConfiguration.Current.BingClientId; string clientSecret = DbResourceConfiguration.Current.BingClientSecret; string auth = translate.GetBingAuthToken(clientId, clientSecret); Assert.IsNotNull(auth); string text = translate.TranslateBing("Hello World we're back home!", "en", "de",auth); Assert.IsNotNull(text, translate.ErrorMessage); Console.WriteLine(text); } [TestMethod] public void TranslateBingIntegratedTest() { var translate = new TranslationServices(); string text = translate.TranslateBing("Hello World we're back home!","en","de"); Assert.IsNotNull(text, translate.ErrorMessage); Console.WriteLine(text); } Other API Methods The Translate API has a number of methods available and this one is the simplest one but probably also the most common one that translates a single string. You can find additional methods for this API here: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff512419.aspx Soap and AJAX APIs are also available and documented on MSDN: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd576287.aspx These links will be your starting points for calling other methods in this API. Dual Interface I've talked about my database driven localization provider here in the past, and it's for this tool that I added the Bing localization support. Basically I have a localization administration form that allows me to translate individual strings right out of the UI, using both Google and Bing APIs: As you can see in this example, the results from Google and Bing can vary quite a bit - in this case Google is stumped while Bing actually generated a valid translation. At other times it's the other way around - it's pretty useful to see multiple translations at the same time. Here I can choose from one of the values and driectly embed them into the translated text field. Lost in Translation There you have it. As I mentioned using the API once you have all the bureaucratic crap out of the way calling the APIs is fairly straight forward and reasonably fast, even if you have to call the Auth API for every call. Hopefully this post will help out a few of you trying to navigate the Microsoft bureaucracy, at least until next time Microsoft upends everything and introduces new ways to sign up again. • Custom Icon for Marker Clusterer

    - by Nyxynyx
    I am using Marker Clusterer library for Google Maps API V3. Now that I have the clusterer working, I want to change the default icon to a custom one. Prorblem: When I try to set the style property of the marker clusterer, the default icon still appears. Where did I go wrong? JS Code // Marker Clusterer var styles = {styles: [{ height: 53, url: "http://localhost/mywebsite/images/template/markers/cluster.png", width: 53 }, { height: 56, url: "http://google-maps-utility-library-v3.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/markerclusterer/images/m2.png", width: 56 }, { height: 66, url: "http://google-maps-utility-library-v3.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/markerclusterer/images/m3.png", width: 66 }, { height: 78, url: "http://google-maps-utility-library-v3.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/markerclusterer/images/m4.png", width: 78 }, { height: 90, url: "http://google-maps-utility-library-v3.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/markerclusterer/images/m5.png", width: 90 }]}; var mcOptions = {gridSize: 50, maxZoom: 15, styles: styles[styles]}; mc = new MarkerClusterer(map, [], mcOptions);
