Ideally I'm looking for something with C++ sample code to help me learn OpenGL as well as details about the APIs similar to what MSDN provides for .net programming.   • Saving a reference to a int.

    Here is a much simplified version of what I am trying to do static void Main(string[] args) { int test = 0; int test2 = 0; Test A = new Test(ref test); Test B = new Test(ref test); Test C = new Test(ref test2); A.write(); //Writes 1 should write 1 B.write(); //Writes 1 should write 2 C.write(); //Writes 1 should write 1 Console.ReadLine(); } class Test { int _a; public Test(ref int a) { _a = a; //I loose the reference here } public void write() { var b = System.Threading.Interlocked.Increment(ref _a); Console.WriteLine(b); } } In my real code I have a int that will be incremented by many threads however where the threads a called it will not be easy to pass it the parameter that points it at the int(In the real code this is happening inside a IEnumerator). So a requirement is the reference must be made in the constructor. Also not all threads will be pointing at the same single base int so I can not use a global static int either. I know I can just box the int inside a class and pass the class around but I wanted to know if that is the correct way of doing something like this?   • An affordable way to use multiple Delayed::Job queues

    I have a Ruby on Rails app that needs process many background jobs simultaneously: anywhere from 5-6 at a time to up to 50-60 at a time depending on the time of day. Right now my app is running on Heroku, which charges $.05/hour per worker, regardless of how much CPU or memory the worker is using. This is costing me a boatload each month... up to $1200/mo. Are there any hosts that will allow me to do what I'm doing for significantly cheaper?

  • Background job with status in rails

    Hey. I would like to upload a file and then parse it. Because parsing can take up to 10min I installed delayed_job plugin and called parsing function through send_later function. I have to mention that this is an AJAX app. Imagine that you press an AJAX button that starts upload and after that the source is imported into the database. During the process I want to show the progress bar or message (importing...) and when it completes the task status changes to done. My question is: What is the best way to check for status of the process. What would you do? My idea is to have another controller actions "status" which look into the database and provide the right status.

  • A moral dilemma - What job to go for?

    Here is the story: I have accepted an offer from a gaming company to work as an senior test engineer / developer. I have not yet received an signed copy of the contract. I will get a bit less salary then I asked for and it is as well less than I have today. The company have booked flight tickets for my move over there. Now comes the problem. I did an telephone interview with a company last week and they have asked me for an in person interview and are willing to pay for flights for the meeting. This company is my first choice(and have been for a few years) and would also benefit my career and I believe I will enjoy working there more. What should I do here.. I do feel uncomfortable giving a last minute rejection when I have over the phone accepted the offer, but on the other hand they have yet produced a signed contract and as well paying me a bit less than I think I'm worth. The business is small in many ways and I don't want to end up with a bad reputation. Would be great to hear your opinions!

I can generally be easily motivated if I'm working on design, but that seems to be about 5% of my actual work hours.   • Update WCF service reference

    In BizTalk 2006 R2, is there some way to regenerate the reference to a WCF service that has been created using the "Add Generated Items / Consume WCF Service" option? I tried just re-running the wizard, but it creates new ODX, BindingInfo, etc. files, and breaks the solution, so that's not the way :-( Searched the web, but not found any references to how to update the references, just plenty on creating from scratch

    I'm trying to trouble shoot a web service client in my current project. I'm not sure of the platform of the Service Server (Most likely LAMP). I believe there is a fault on their side of the fence as i have eliminated the potential issues with my client. The client is a standard ASMX type web reference proxy auto generated from the service WSDL. What I need to get to is the RAW SOAP Messages (Request and Responses) What is the best way to go about this?

  • Scheduling a Delay Job on Heroku with a Worker Dyno

    I'm currently using Heroku's scheduler to run a script. However, the time that the script takes to run is going to increase from a few milliseconds to a few minutes. I'm looking at using the delayed_job gem to push this process off to a Worker Dyno. I want to continue to run this script once-a-day, just offload it to the worker. My current rake task is: desc "This task updates some stuff for you." task :update_some_stuff => :environment do puts "Updating some stuff ..." SomeClass.new.process puts "... done." end Once the gem is installed, migration run, and worker dyno started, will the script just need to change to: desc "This task updates some stuff for you." task :update_some_stuff => :environment do puts "Updating some stuff ..." SomeClass.new.delay.process puts "... done." end With this task still being a rake task scheduled by Heroku's Scheduler, is the only thing that needs to happen here the introduction of the delay method to put this in the Worker's queue?   • Triggering Quartz job from JSF (Any front end)- How to wait for the job execution to be over

    I am developing a front end to trigger a quartz job on the fly. I have a form in the JSF page whose click action will dynamically trigger a quartz job. The job is invoked by the following statement, the job is triggered and everything works fine. scheduler.triggerJob("Job1",Scheduler.DEFAULT_GROUP,jobDataMap); From what I understand the job seems to run in a separate thread and the execution of the calling function does not wait for the job to be over. Since I am invoking the job from front end, I would like to wait till the job is over before I navigate to a different JSF page. So I can display an error message if the job fails. I would also like to display a message to the user, "Processing job, please wait.." until the job is actually over. Any ideas on how to accomplish this will be appreciated. Thanks !
