  How can I fix Update Manager in 12.04, which hangs when I try to install any update, while sudo apt-get upgrade works fine? I suspect it has something to do with my python installation. • Ruby on Rail using MYSQL database

  Hey guys, New to rails, trying to figure out something simple. Seems as though I cannot migrate a very simple mysql database using "rake db:migrate" command. Here is the issue: I know rails defaults to sqllite right now, but I need to use mysql for a series of reasons.   Faye private pub has issues connecting. It works from rails console and from inside application. It fails when called from background process like delayed_job or sidekiq. I have been unable to resolve this issue for some time now, does anyone know why this happens?   In trying to follow the Ubuntu guide for postfix and mailman, I do not understand these directions: This build of mailman runs as list. It must have permission to read /etc/aliases and read and write /var/lib/mailman/data/aliases. • I can't update my system properly, "no package header" error

  Every time I try to run sudo apt-get update or try running updates from the GUI interface I run into the following problem or something similar: Reading package lists... Error! E: Encountered a section with no Package: header E: Problem with MergeList /var/lib/apt/lists/archive.ubuntu.com_ubuntu_dists_precise_restricted_binary-i386_Packages E: The package lists or status file could not be parsed or opened. I've tried purging using sudo rm -rf <filename> where <filename> is the listed file above, and then running sudo apt-get update to fix it (as listed elsewhere in this forum) and no luck, just keep getting this message. I'm running Ubuntu 12.04 and this is getting really frustrating... I just want a system that runs smoothly and doesn't require it's hand to be held when it comes to updates.   I am having repeated and frequent crashes ending session whenever I take certain actions such as loading gmail under Chrome. Oddly, the same is not happening when I go to gmail under Chrome. After rooting around in /var/logs it appears to me that he trigger is something to do with libc.so.6 (see below).   I need to determine whether a library named libunaSA.so is being called directly by the process or by another library called libtoki2.so. I guess what I'm looking for is a pstree for libraries. The system is running RHEL 5.3 Beta. • Authlogic Facebook Connect and cucumber

  I added the authlogic_facebook_connect plugin to my project and I'm now having problem running my cucumber test because of a NoMethodError. undefined method `set_facebook_session' for nil:NilClass (NoMethodError) In authlogic_facebook_connect/Session.rb the method "authenticating_with_facebook_connect?" is called as some sort of callback and the controller is defined but is missing the 'set_facebook_session' method. def authenticating_with_facebook_connect? controller.set_facebook_session attempted_record.nil? && errors.empty? && controller.facebook_session end I don't understand why the cucumber test is not loading the controller with this method. This would seem to be OK... but I did some debugging, and inside the file /var/lib/gems/1.8/gems/shopify_app-4.1.0/lib/shopify_app.rb (at the top) by putting this: puts RUBY_VERSION exit It printed 1.8.7. **Why are ruby -v and RUBY_VERSION giving me different results? And am I correct in assuming this is the cause of my problems? Note: To upgrade Ruby I installed the later version with apt-get and then switched to it by using update-alternatives --config ruby and selecting option 2 like this: root@ubuntu:/usr/local/pete-shopify/cart# update-alternatives --config ruby There are 2 choices for the alternative ruby (providing /usr/bin/ruby). • CRT not initialized

  I'm trying to compile one project with MSVC 2010, compilation is ok, but when I try to run the app, it gives me CRT not initialized error. It is a console application, so I tried to specify mainCRTStartup as Entry Point, but it didn't help. In the same solution there are other projects, and they don't have such a problem. The difference which I see between them is that one which is not working, uses boost. Boost v1.38.0 if this is important. Runtime Library is Multi-threaded DLL. • Possible missing firmware /lib/firmware/rtl_nic/rtl8105e-1.fw for module r8169 with 2.6.39 kernel

  I've been getting an issue since upgrading to 2.6.39 in Natty from the Kernel-PPA repository. When I do a sudo update-initramfs -u I get the following error message. update-initramfs: Generating /boot/initrd.img-2.6.39-0-generic-pae W: Possible missing firmware /lib/firmware/rtl_nic/rtl8105e-1.fw for module r8169 I did notice that firmware wasn't in the allocated directory. Does anyone know where to get the firmware files for this.

• I think "/lib/modules/$(uname -r)/build" points to incorrect folder

  I compile/create my own deb packages of kernel with: make-kpkg --rootcmd fakeroot --initrd --append-to-version=$version --revision=1 kernel_image kernel_headers But when I install both packages, in /lib/modules/(*name_kernel_compiled*) it creates two links, sources and build, pointing to folder with sources, from I've compiled. sources link is correct but build should point to /usr/src/linux-(version kernel), don't you think?

• How can I manage building library projects that produce both a static lib and a dll?

  I've got a large visual studio solution with ~50 projects. There are configurations for StaticDebug, StaticRelease, Debug and Release. Some libraries are needed in both dll and static lib form. To get them, we rebuild the solution with a different configuration. The Configuration Manager window is used to setup which projects need to build in which flavours, static lib, dynamic dll or both. This can by quite tricky to manage and it's a bit annoying to have to build the solution multiple times and select the configurations in the right order. Static versions need building before non-static versions. I'm wondering, instead of this current scheme, might it be simpler to manage if, for the projects I needed to produce both a static lib and dynamc dll, I created two projects. Eg: CoreLib CoreDll I could either make both of these projects reference all the same files and build them twice, or I'm wondering, would it be possible to build CoreLib and then get CoreDll to link it to generate the dll? I guess my question is, do you have any advice on how to structure your projects in this kind of situation? Thanks.

• Using HtmlAnchor for anchor tag that navigates in-page named anchor

  I am trying to render a simple hyperlink that links to a named anchor within the page, for example: <a href="#namedAnchor"scroll to down</a <a name="namedAnchor"down</a The problem is that when I use an ASP.NET control like asp:HyperLink or HtmlAnchor, the href="#namedAnchor" is rendered as href="controls/#namedAnchor" (where controls is the subdirectory where the user control containing the anchor is). I do not want to introduce a custom web control for this requirement, as the requirement I'm pursuing is not that important and it would be hard to talk the team into abandoning the traditional ASP.NET link controls. It seems like I should be able to use the ASP.NET link controls to generate the desired link.

• Reading multiple instances of a tag or element using XSLT

  My RDF xml file is something like this.. <rdf:RDF> <rdf:Description rdf:about="........"> <j.0:property rdf:resource="....."/> <j.0:property rdf:resource=....."/> <j.0:property rdf:resource="........"/> </rdf:Description> </rdf:RDF> Now in my XSLT stylesheet I need to retrieve the values of all the j.0:property tags. I am using something like this: <xsl:apply-templates select="j.0:property"/> <xsl:template match="j.0:property"> <xsl:text><xsl:value-of select="/rdf:RDF/rdf:Description/j.0:propert /@rdf:resource"/></xsl:text> </xsl:template> But then it returns the same value 3 times. The value being the value of the first property encountered. Kindly help as to how I can get the value for each property.
