  • Serializing MDI Winforms for persistency

    Hello, basically my project is an MDI Winform application where a user can customize the interface by adding various controls and changing the layout. I would like to be able to save the state of the application for each user. I have done quite a bit of searching and found these: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2076259/how-to-auto-save-and-auto-load-all-properties-in-winforms-c http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1669522/c-save-winform-or-controls-to-file Basically from what I understand, the best approach is to serialize the data to XML, however winform controls are not serializable, so I would have use surrogate classes: http://www.codeproject.com/KB/dotnet/Surrogate_Serialization.aspx Now, do I need to write a surrogate class for each of my controls? I would need to write some sort of a recursive algorithm to save all my controls, what is the best approach to do accomplish that? How would I then restore all the windows, should I use the memento design pattern for that? If I want to implement multiple users later, should I use Nhibernate to store all the object data in a database? I am still trying to wrap my head around the problem and if anyone has any experience or advice I would greatly appreciate it, thanks.

    We develop a WinForm application using Scintilla.NET (1.7) component, which uses SciLexer.dll (unamnaged). At run-time, we distribute both 32bit and 64bit SciLexer.dll, and we load the correct one when the application starts (everything works fine).     I have a .NET MVC winform app. I've created an AppDelegate class that handles application startup and shutdown...for now (it might do more later). Winform apps have a Program.cs file that does some app initialization, starts the message pump and creates the first form. In my app, the first form is AppDelegate, which isn't really a form but is forced that way by Application.Run(). AppDelegate does any further app initialization and starts the first Controller, which then initializes any child controllers (these then create their views). I don't consider events occuring in Program.cs and AppDelegate as part of the MVC. Conceptually, what would these be called?

  • Sharing Session between webservice and asp.net application

    I have an asp.net application and webservices (asmx) that reside in the same application but not in the same folder of the aspx files. I aslo have a winform application that uses the webservices. I have marked the webservice methods with [WebMethod(EnableSession = true)] but I am not able to share the same session values that are on the application in the webservices. The winform application has access to the sessionID from the application and I am using the following code Uri uri = new Uri(ServerServiceUrl); _cookieContainer = new CookieContainer(); _cookieContainer.Add(new Cookie("ASP.NET_SessionId", SessionID, "/", uri.Host)); My question is: Is there something that I am missing or doing wrong that I cannot access the application sessioin from the webservices?

  • Import external dll based on 64bit or 32bit OS

    I have a dll that comes in both 32bit and 64bit version. My .NET WinForm is configured for "Any CPU" and my boss will not let us have separate installs for the different OS versions. So I am wondering: if I package both dlls in the install, then is there a way to have the WinForm determine if its 64bit/32bit and load the proper dll. I found this article for determining version. But i am not sure how to inject the proper way to define the DLLImport attribute on the methods i wish to use. Any ideas?

I have to display an xml tree in a winform and then when i click on any node, its attributes should get displayed on a list box in same window. I want to make use of tags property, but for that i need to convert that tree node in the winform into an xml node.     When I put my USB drive into a computer, I want autorun.inf to run a batch file that will have a win32/winform GUI windows interface to allow the user to select a program to run from the beginning similiar to like this: Please let me know if windows allows this without it being done programmatically. I know their are some automation programs that work by generating code based on what it records you do. But I don't knwo of any already built windows prompt like this, so I don't knwo how to record such an action.

    Following the recent release by Microsoft of TypeScript I was wondering if this is something that should be considered for a experienced WinForm and XAML developer looking to get into more web development. From reviewing a number of sites and videos online it appears that the type system for TypeScript makes more sense to me as a thick client developer than the dynamic type system in Javascript. I understand that Typescript compiles down to JavaScript but it appears that the learning curve is shallower due to the current tooling provided by Microsoft. What are your thoughts?

    I'm looking in creating some applications for workers to use on the workfloor. They'll be using Psion NEO devices running Windows CE 5.0. My skillset allows for C#, PHP, ASP.Net (+ webservices). Application requirements: should connect to our ERP system running on IBM iSeries (AS400). should be run in fullscreen (effectively hiding the OS). usability touch functionality. I have tried the following: Full winform application ran through RDP session: [+] easy deployment using .rdp file. [+] application can be run on desktop environment too. [+] rdp host can easily access DB2 using IBM drivers. [+] GUI works ok on small screen. [-] environment = terminal server. (which is already under heavy use) Full winform application running on device OS: [+] environment = local. [+] responsive. [-] must use a webservice to access DB2. [-] deployment... [-] fixed platform (no desktop) Console application running on device OS: [+] environment = local. [+] very responsive. [-] must use a webservice to access DB2. [-] no fullscreen or other window options? [-] deployment... [-] fixed platform (no desktop) I'm considering creating a web application but it seems the OS comes with IE 5? I don't want to alter the OS in any way! (install other browsers etc.) I would like to have an application that's responsive, easy to deploy, fullscreen and optionally multiplatform. I have seen handheld devices using terminal (emulation?) with a console like interface. This seems to be native to the device but I'm afraid this requires modest knowledge of C++? It seems that using RDP is the way to go but, I came here for advice and look for people that have been in the same situation willing to share their experience. There does not seem to be many "best practices" on the web that could help me decide the best way of working. Greetings

What I would like to know is; is it possible for the exact same to be accomplished in XNA using Kinect? I know that it can be done in Winform / C#, but I know XNA / C# a lot better and would (ideally) prefer to use that.

    Sometimes getting a little feedback during the install/uninstall process of a NuGet package could be really useful. Instead of accounting for all possible ways to install your NuGet package for every user, you can simplify the installation by clarifying with the user what they want. This example shows how to generate a windows yes/no message box to get input from the user in the PowerShell install or uninstall script. We’ll use the prompt on the uninstall to confirm if the user wants to delete a custom setting that the initial install placed in their configuration.  Obviously you could use the prompt in any way you want. The objects of the message box are generated similar to the controls in the code behind of a WinForm.     BACKGROUND I've successfully embedded IronPython in my WinForm apps using techniques like the one described here: http://blog.peterlesliemorris.com/archive/2010/05/19/embedding-ironpython-into-a-c-application.aspx In the context of the embedding, my user may any write loops, etc. I'm using the IronPython 2.6 (the IronPython for .NET 2.0 and IronPython for .NET 4.0) MY PROBLEM Sometimes the users will need to interrupt the execution of their code In other words they need something like the ability to hit CTRL-C to halt execution when running Python or IronPython from the cmdline I want to add a button to the winform that when pressed halts the execution, but I'm not sure how to do this. I try verify this client certificate on revocation in winform app in windows server 2003.   • How do I consume a self hosted WCF service with Compact Framework client?

    Hello - I've been trying to figure out how to consume a self hosted WCF service from a Windows CE device. I've not found any good resources that walk through this process online. I've found some good samples for self hosting, and that part seems to be working fine, but not sure how to go about consuming on the compact framework. In the past I was able to use NetCFSvcUtil.exe, but this doesn't seem to work with a self hosted service. NetCFSvcutil says: The underlying connection was closed: An unexpected error occurred on a receive. Unable to read data from the transport connection: An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host. I've used Jason Henderson's sample http://www.codeproject.com/KB/WCF/WCFexample.aspx to get started with self hosting and that part works as expected. Can any one point me to a sample where a compact framework client is used to consume a self hosted WCF service? or give a brief explanation of how I create the plumbing on the compact framework side? For the host application I'm using a WinForm .Net 3.5 project and for the client a WinForm Compact Framework 3.5 project. Thanks!
