I just want to know until what level of unit testing is done by developer and from what point QA engineer takes over testing for better test coverage ? • eDelivery (Delivery Cloud) Housekeeping - removal of obsolete EPM products

  You may have noticed that Weblogic Server (WLS) 9.2.X and WLS 10.0.X releases have been removed from the Oracle Software Delivery Cloud. The Delivery Team has been asked to remove or update any product pack or product that embeds WLS 10.3.2 or earlier versions. This is consistent with general Oracle practice of removing old product versions from public distribution systems, and encourages customer usage and adoption of newer product releases such as WLS 10.3.3 or newer.  For the convenience of existing supported customers, a media request SR on My Oracle Support can be entered to obtain any removed media.  Information on how to open such an SR can be found on  MOS Doc ID 1071023.1 . OTN will also be reviewed and similar modifications may potentially be done.  The following media packs will be removed from E-Delivery this week, as of the above reason. • update-apt-xapian-index uses 100% CPU, even when Update Manager is set to not check for updates

  I have a slightly older laptop running Ubuntu 11.10. It runs fine, but frequently, when I start it up, the CPU monitor in my Gnome Panel shows 100% usage for for what can be up to five minutes or so. It seems that the offending process is update-apt-xapian-index, which, if I understand correctly, is the update manager checking for updates. I have gone into the update manager settings, and selected to never check for updates. I'll do that manually when I feel like I have the time to leave the laptop running for that. However, despite my selection, this still happens. Roughly 50% of the time or more, when I start my laptop, it runs update-apt-xapian-index. How can I get the update manager to respect my settings, or at least to get this process to stop eating my CPU cycles?

• Delete backup files older than 7 days

  Using osql command, SSQL backup of a database is created. It is saved to Disk. Then renamed to match the date of the day backup was taken. All these files are saved in a single folder all the time. for example: Batch1.bat does the following 1) Created backup.bak 2) renamed to backup 12-13-2009.bak (this is done by the combination of % ~ - etc to get the date parameter) This is now automated to take backup everyday by Task scheduler in Windows. Can the batch file also be modified to delete backup files older than 7 days? if so, how ? If it is not possible via batch file, other than manually deleting the files are there any other alternatives to automate the deleting job ? Thanks in advance, Balaji S

• How to adjust TouchPad edge scroll area in Ubuntu?

  I have an Acer Aspire that I have dual booting XP and Ubuntu. On the Windows side, the driver allows you to set how close your finger has to be to the edge of the TouchPad before it goes into scroll mode. In Ubuntu I don't have the option (at least in the GUI) to change the scroll area on the pad. Is there a conf file or other way to change this? I'm constantly getting into the scroll area during normal usage. I would like to leave it on without losing so much pad area to the scroll feature.

• The Ubuntu Advantage Service right for my non-profit?

  My small 5 computer office currently runs on Ubuntu. 2 of the desktops run Windows7 in Sun Virtualbox software, and are used for Quickbooks. I am going off to college, and I am looking for a paid tech support solution to replace my IT position. I have an approx $300/mth budget, and I am wiling to discuss higher rates. Everyone in the office is currently comfortable with regular desktop usage, but I am handling all of the software installation and updates. I was hoping to get a total support package for all of their tech related questions, but I cannot find any services which will support linux. Is the Ubuntu Advantage Service something which can take my place? They would mostly need network help, printer help, and an occasional software compatibly troubleshooting session. If this is not a solution, does anyone know of a tech support forum/hotline which would cover all of this? Thank you for reading.

• Java Developers: Is Ant still in the "main stream" for builds? Do we push new developers to learn it?

  We have been slowly replacing batch command files (windows .bat) which were simply jarring up the classes compiled in the developers IDE, with more comprehensive Ant builds (i.e. get from CVS, clean compile, jar, archive, email, etc.) I've spent a lot of time learning (and debugging issues) with Ant, so I'm most comfortable using it for these tasks. But I wonder if Ant is still in as wide usage as it was when I first started learning, or whether "the world has moved on" to something newer (and maybe slicker). (I've started to see more Maven build stuff distributed, which I've never used, for example.) The practical import of this question, is whether I push new developers to learn Ant, or whether they should be learning something else for builds? I'm never too on top of the trends, so it would be great to hear from other Java developers what they think is the best build tool, and what they think new developers should be learning.

  I am helping out an NGO, called Orphans Found Fund, here in Arusha Tanzania setup a computer lab to teach students about Ubuntu and open source applications. I have installed Ubuntu 10.10 on all the systems. What I'm wondering about is how to tweak the systems so that the kids cannot: Delete or alter system files Alter the system settings Add or remove applications Exceed a time limit (like an Internet Cafe) Also as the administrator I would like to monitor the usage for another system to make sure that abuse of network is not taking place. • How to get average network load instead of instant

  Welcome, I use conky to see network load statistics with sampling every 8 seconds in order to get somewhat more smooth history chart. Unfortunately, all values i get are not average for this 8 second period, but they are sampled from much smaller time span, so charts are the same choppy, as if they were sampled from 1 second or less. Is there any way to get conky (or at least System Monitor) display system properties averaged over specified amount of time, just like Windows' task manager does? I would like to have conky display hard drive usage from iostat, but there will be little use if it, if conky reports instant values not averaged over time.

  A few years ago, following the explosion of custom web APIs from various services around the world, Yahoo! launched the YQL service, which allows to query data from a variety of different providers with a unified Yahoo Query Language. Having worked with the APIs of Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, Google Maps, YouTube and more, I very much enjoy the idea. However, I do not see it mentioned often, and of course this is one of those efforts that makes sense when enough people follow it and expose their API through this layer. Are there some statitics of usage? Or some declarations from Yahoo about the destiny of YQL? I would also be interested in hearing your experience if you have tried it directly.

  I erased Windows 7 and installed Ubuntu 12.04 on my Dell Latitude E4200. I an very happy with my choice but with little pity. I cannot use the wireless service in my university as the build-in device works unstable. I bought a USB wireless device, which solve the problem. However, the build-in device keep to sent me message about unable to connect, which waste laptop's cup & battery. The phsical bottom to turn off wireless affect both devices. So the question is: "How can I manually shut down wireless device?" There is another interest comes to my mind: "Does 2 wireless improve the overall internet usage if I run a high-internet-consuming program like BT ?" Thank for your time and energy.

  Oracle Fusion Middleware customers use Oracle Service Bus (OSB) for virtualizing Service endpoints and implementing stateless service orchestrations. Behind the performance and speed of OSB, there are a couple of key design implementations that can affect application performance and behavior under heavy load. One of the heavily used feature in OSB is the Service Callout pipeline action for message enrichment and invoking multiple services as part of one single orchestration. Overuse of this feature, without understanding its internal implementation, can lead to serious problems. This post will delve into OSB internals, the problem associated with usage of Service Callout under high loads, diagnosing it via thread dump and heap dump analysis using tools like ThreadLogic and OQL (Object Query Language) and resolving it.
