• Create pdf file dynamically in vb.net for .net 1.1 framework

  I need to create a pdf file dynamically in vb.net. It needs to contain several images and lines of text. I am using VS 2003, so whatever solution I use will need to be compatible with the .net 1.1 framework. The current method I am using is wpcubed, but this requires that all images be converted to bmp format before adding them to the pdf, which can be extremely slow when dealing with a large number of images. I am aware that there are an awful lot of other 3rd party products that claim to do this, and I have had a search through them. But without registering, downloading, installing and writing code to use each of them in turn, it is very difficult to differentiate between them. So far I have looked into evo pdf and pdfsharp but neither seem to work with .net 1.1. (Although they don't make this abundantly clear.) Has anyone else found a method that works and they would recommend (a free one-if possible)?

• How to monitor MySQL query errors, timeouts and logon attempts?

  While setting up a third party closed source CMS (Sitefinity) the setup doesn't create all tables and procedures necessary to run it. The software lacks a logging system itself and it made me wonder: could I trace and monitor failing SQL statements from MySQL? This serves more than only the purpose of solving my issue with Sitefinity. More often I wonder what's send to the MySQL server, not wanting to dive into the software products or setup a debugging environment etc. I tried JetProfiler (only performance) and looked through a few others, but although they monitor a lot, they don't monitor query failures, timeouts or logon attempts. Does anyone know a profiler, tracer, monitoring tool, commercial or free, that can show me this information?

  Hey guys, I don't think I'm getting it right. Here is my most recent query that I believe is almost working. SELECT max(sender_id) as sender_id, subject, MAX(id) as message_id, MAX(created_at) as updated_at FROM messages where (recipient_id = #{current_user} and recipient_deleted = 'f') or sender_id = #{current_user} GROUP BY subject ORDER BY max(created_at) DESC ; Basically the goal is to fetch all recent messages of a user, group them by subject, and make sure that the photo that is showing up is the other party's photo, never the current user. (also need the most recent message body and message count but that is for another time) Here is what I think is wrong. doing max(sender_id) is wrong, since the current_user id could be higher than the sender's id. I am using the sender_id in the html page to fetch the user's photo.

  From an out-of-process COM object (LocalServer32) can I determine the client process that requested the creation of the object? - to be specific I need to get hold of the client processes command line. This question arrises because (due to poor standardisation, implementation and support) the potential 3rd party clients of the object have a variety of idiosyncracies which the object needs to workaround. To do this the object needs to be able to identify its current client. Extending the interface of the COM object so that the client can identify itself is unfortunately not possible ... or to be more precise the interface can be extended but I won't be able to get the clients to call the extension.

Can you help me figure out a built in type or a 3rd party contributed type that has as much as possible, the functionality of the AutoHotkey_L object type and its methods. AutoHotkey_L Objects have features of a python dict, list, and a class instance.   There are many approaches when it goes about running untrusted code on typical CPU : sandboxes, fake-roots, virtualization... What about untrusted code for GPGPU (OpenCL,cuda or already compiled one) ? Assuming that memory on graphics card is cleared before running such third-party untrusted code, are there any security risks? What kind of risks? Any way to prevent them ? (Possible sandboxing on gpgpu or other technique?) P.S. I am more interested in gpu binary code level security rather than hight-level gpgpu programming language security (But those solutions are welcome as well). What I mean is that references to gpu opcodes (a.k.a machine code) are welcome.

  I recently discover the LLVM (low level virtual machine) project, and from what I have heard It can be used to performed static analysis on a source code. I would like to know if it is possible to extract the different function call through function pointer (find the caller function and the callee function) in a program. I could find the kind of information in the website so it would be really helpful if you could tell me if such an library already exist in LLVM or can you point me to the good direction on how to build it myself (existing source code, reference, tutorial, example...). EDIT: With my analysis I actually want to extract caller/callee function call. In the case of a function pointer, I would like to return a set of possible callee. both caller and callee must be define in the source code (this does not include third party function in a library).

  Does anyone have a nice example of integration between HelpSpot and Fogbugz? We're using HelpSpot as our customer facing software and ticket management, and then if a developer needs to work on a ticket the data will be pushed to Fogbugz. Obviously we can use the Fogbugz push API that Userscape provides, but this only allows you to specify the title of the incident in Fogbugz. Ideally I want to share title, assigned to, category and status in a two-way integration. Do most people just use emails between the two programs, or has anyone come across a nice third party app?   I need to write a batch file to unzip files to their current folder from a given root folder. Folder 0 |----- Folder 1 | |----- File1.zip | |----- File2.zip | |----- File3.zip | |----- Folder 2 | |----- File4.zip | |----- Folder 3 |----- File5.zip |----- FileN.zip So, I wish that my batch file is launched like so: ocd.bat /d="Folder 0" Then, make it iterate from within the batch file through all of the subfolders to unzip the files exactly where the .zip files are located. So here's my question: Does the Windows (from XP at least) have a command line for its embedded zip tool? Otherwise, shall I stick to another third-party util?

• MySQL import in phpmyadmin (CSV) chokes on quotes

  I am trying to import a .csv file into a MySQL table via phpMyAdmin. The .csv file is separated by pipes, formated like this: data|d'ata|d'a"ta|dat"a| data|"da"ta|data|da't'a| dat'a|data|da"ta"|da'ta| The data contains quotes. I have no control over the format in which I recieve the data -- it is generated by a third party. The problem comes when there is a | followed by a double quote. I always get an "invalid field count in CSV input on line N" error. I am uploading the file from the import page, using Latin1, CSV, terminated by |, separated by ". I would like to just change the "enclosed by" character, but I keep getting "Invalid parameter for CSV import: Fields enclosed by". I have tried various characters with no success. How can I tell MySQL to accept this format in phpMyAdmin? Setting up these tables is the first step in writing a program that will use uploaded gzipped .csv files to maintain the catalog of an e-commerce site.

• How can I debug or set a break statement inside an expression tree?

  When an external library contains a LINQ provider, and it throws an exception when executing a dynamic expression tree, how can I break when that expression is thrown? For example, I use a third party LINQ2CRM provider, which allows me to call the Max<TSource, TResult>() method of IQueryable, but when it throws an InvalidCastException, I fail to break on the spot when the exception is thrown, making it hard to review the stack-trace because it's already unwinded when the debugger breaks it in my code. I've set "break on throw" for the mentioned exception. My debug settings are: Clarification on where exactly I'd want to break. I do not want to break in side the LINQ Expression, but instead, I want to break when the expression tree is executed, or, put in other words, when the IQueryable extension method Max() calls the override provided by the LINQ provider. The top of the stacktrace looks like this, which is where I would like to break inside (or step through, or whatever): at XrmLinq.QueryProviderBase.Execute[T](Expression expression) at System.Linq.Queryable.Max[TSource,TResult](IQueryable`1 source, Expression`1 selector)

• JBoss classloading when 2 WARs have the same class

  I have a web applications A.war which has two servlets AServlet and BServlet. Both instantiate a helper class com.mycompany.Foo.class (this is my own class, not a third party library). Now I want to split the two servlets into two separate WARs: A.war will have only AServlet and a new B.war will have BServlet. AServlet will invoke BServlet via HTTP GET. Both WARs will have com.mycompany.Foo.class. I want to deploy both WARs on the same JBoss instance. The question is, will there be any classloading issues due to the same class being present in both WARs, and the WARs being deployed on the same JBoss instance?

• Remote Ajax Call in jQuery .click() function doesn't finish before going to next page.

  I need to send click information on my website to a third party server using ajax (json). I am using jquery and I added the click event to certain links. In the click event I am making a json request to a remote server with the location of the click (heat map) and some other information. The problem is that the ajax function doesn't fire in time before the default link action happens. Setting async to false doesn't seem to work on remote ajax calls. I have tried preventDefault(), but then I don't know how to run the default action after the successful ajax call.   Apple just announced the iAd platform as part of iPhone OS 4. It essentially is an embedded application with a unified interface where you close the embedded application using a small x in the corner. This is obviously a nice experience for users, that could be used by other advertising platforms or to provide an embedded application such as dictionary service.   Hi, I'm trying to build a dual platform application for a company of my own I'm trying to start at night. I have the .NET version done, but have not finished the UI part. I'm thinking of buying some 3rd party controls. If I buy these controls, however, they clearly will only work in my Windows version. I'm wondering if I should try to do the UI in GTK# and use Mono with CocoaSharp or just build the thing in MS technology and teach myself the Mac side? I'm just really unfamiliar with the Mac world and am wondering how much of a learning curve there might be. I've thought perhaps of rewriting my core logic in Ruby or Python. This why I could use the .NET version with .NET controls and presumably hook the same code up on the Mac. It's an educational app targeted at consumers. As such, it shouldn't require a lot of technical sophistication to install.

• Is there a way to write System.Drawing.Graphics to PDF from C#?

  I have a whole bunch of 2D graphics that is being used for both rendering controls on screen and used to print, it's pretty custom graphics that couldn't be done by any 3rd party reporting tools or off the shelf controls. The program can generate PDF files of the printed content but when I wrote it I cheated and just print the Graphics object to an in memory image and then embed that into the PDF page. Since the users are emailing the documents they're finding they are too large. I've started writing the PDF from scratch using iText, however is there a way to get System.Drawing.Graphics content directly into PDF? The way iText works and Graphics works is completely different.

• Is there any ready-made calendar control for iPhone apps?

  I am building an applicaiton for the iPhone that will display upcoming and past events. I settled for a list view, but then I realized that a calendar (just like the one displayed in the "month" view in the built-in Calendar application) would be a best match (that is, this one). However, the iPhone Human Interface Guidelines just mentions the Date Picker, not the calendar, so I believe there is nothing like that out of the box. Is that true? If so, does anyone know of a third-party control that could be used? (I could write one myself, but I'd rather pick up something ready, since this is a departure on the original project plans). • delphi "Invalid use of keyword" in TQuery

  I'm trying to populate a TDBGrid with the results of the following TQuery against the file Journal.db: select * from Journal where Journal.where = "RainPump" I've tried both Journal."Where" and Journal.[Where] to no avail. I've also tried: select Journal.[Where] as "Location" - with the same result. Journal.db is a file created by a third party and I am unable to change the field names. The problem is that the field I'm interested in is called 'where' and understandably causes the above error. How do I reference this field without causing the BDE (presumably) to explode?
