• stuck with enable session state

  hi i have an application wherein i am accessing the Session object in the CommonCode.cs file that resides in the App_Code folder. But when the session object is accessed the application throws me an error: Session state can only be used when enableSessionState is set to true, either in a configuration file or in the Page directive. Please also make sure that System.Web.SessionStateModule or a custom session state module is included in the \\ section in the application configuration. • Weird .net 4.0 exception when running unit tests

  Hi guys I am receiving the following exception when trying to run my unit tests using .net 4.0 under VS2010 with moq 3.1. Attempt by security transparent method 'SPPD.Backend.DataAccess.Test.Specs_for_Core.When_using_base.Can_create_mapper()' to access security critical method 'Microsoft.VisualStudio.TestTools.UnitTesting.Assert.IsNotNull(System.Object)' failed. Assembly 'SPPD.Backend.DataAccess.Test, Version=1.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=null' is marked with the AllowPartiallyTrustedCallersAttribute, and uses the level 2 security transparency model. Level 2 transparency causes all methods in AllowPartiallyTrustedCallers assemblies to become security transparent by default, which may be the cause of this exception. • Zend_Validate_Abstract custom validator not displaying correct error messages.

  I have two text fields in a form that I need to make sure neither have empty values nor contain the same string. The custom validator that I wrote extends Zend_Validate_Abstract and works correctly in that it passes back the correct error messages. In this case either: isEmpty or isMatch. However, the documentation says to use addErrorMessages to define the correct error messages to be displayed. in this case, i have attached ->addErrorMessages(array("isEmpty"=>"foo", "isMatch"=>"bar")); to the form field. According to everything I've read, if I return "isEmpty" from isValid(), my error message should read "foo" and if i return "isMatch" then it should read "bar". This is not the case I'm running into though. If I return false from is valid, no matter what i set $this-_error() to be, my error message displays "foo", or whatever I have at index[0] of the error messages array. If I don't define errorMessages, then I just get the error code I passed back for the display and I get the proper one, depending on what I passed back. How do I catch the error code and display the correct error message in my form? The fix I have implemented, until I figure it out properly, is to pass back the full message as the errorcode from the custom validator. This will work in this instance, but the error message is specific to this page and doesn't really allow for re-use of code. Things I have already tried: I have already tried validator chaining so that my custom validator only checks for matches: ->setRequired("true") ->addValidator("NotEmpty") ->addErrorMessage("URL May Not Be Empty") ->addValidator([*customValidator]*) ->addErrorMessage("X and Y urls may not be the same") But again, if either throws an error, the last error message to be set displays, regardless of what the error truly is. I'm not entirely sure where to go from here. Any suggestions?

• Backreferences syntax in replacement strings (why dollar sign?)

  In Java, and it seems in a few other languages, backreferences in the pattern is preceded by a slash (e.g. \1, \2, \3, etc), but in a replacement string it's preceded by a dollar sign (e.g. $1, $2, $3, and also $0). Here's a snippet to illustrate: System.out.println( "left-right".replaceAll("(.*)-(.*)", "\\2-\\1") // WRONG!!! ); // prints "2-1" System.out.println( "left-right".replaceAll("(.*)-(.*)", "$2-$1") // CORRECT! ); // prints "right-left" System.out.println( "You want million dollar?!?".replaceAll("(\\w*) dollar", "US\\$ $1") ); // prints "You want US$ million?!?" If not, what language started it? What flavors use it and what don't? Why is this a good idea? Why not stick to the same pattern syntax? Wouldn't that lead to a more cohesive and an easier to learn language? Wouldn't the syntax be more streamlined if statements 1 and 4 in the above were the "correct" ones instead of 2 and 3?

• TimeoutException when WCF Host and Client are in the same process

  I've ran into a really weird problem. I am building a heavily distributed application where each app instance can either be a Host and/or Client to a WCF-Service (very p2p-like). Everything works fine, as long as the Client and the targeted Host (By which I mean the app, not the Host, since currently everything runs on a single computer (so no Firewall problems etc.)) are NOT the same. IF they are the same, then the app hangs for exactly 1 Minute and then throws a TimeoutException. WCF-Logging did not produce anything helpful. • Set fields with instrospection - Problem with String.valueOf(String)

  Hey there! I'm setting public fields of the Object 'this' via reflection. Both the field name and the value are given as String. I use several various field types: Boolean, Integer, Float, Double, an own enum, and a String. It works with all of them except with a String. The exception that gets thrown is that no method with the Signature String.valueOf(String) exists... Now I use a dirty instanceof workaround to detect if each field is a String and in that case just copy the value to the field. private void setField(String field, String value) throws Exception { Field wField = this.getClass().getField(field); if(wField.get(this) instanceof String){ //TODO dirrrrty hack //stupid workaround as java.lang.String.valueOf(java.lang.String) fails... wField.set(this, value); }else{ Method parseMethod = wField.getType().getMethod("valueOf", new Class[]{String.class}); wField.set(this, parseMethod.invoke(wField, value)); } } Any ideas how to avoid that workaround? • Why do i get E_ACCESSDENIED when reading public shortcuts through Shell32?

  I'm trying to read the targets of all desktop shortcuts in a C# 4 application. The shortcuts on a windows desktop can come from more that one location, depending on whether the shortcut is created for all users or just the current user. In this specific case I'm trying to read a shortcut from the public desktop, e.g. from C:\Users\Public\Desktop\shortcut.lnk. The code is like this (path is a string contaning the path to the lnk file): var shell = new Shell32.ShellClass(); var folder = shell.NameSpace(Path.GetDirectoryName(path)); var folderItem = folder.ParseName(Path.GetFileName(path)); if (folderItem != null) { var link = (Shell32.ShellLinkObject)folderItem.GetLink; The last line throws an System.UnauthorizedAccessException, indicating that it's not allowed to read the shortcut file's contents. I have tried on shortcut files on the user's private desktop (c:\Users\username\Desktop) and that works fine. So, my questions are: (1) why is my application not allowed to /read/ the shortcut from code, when I can clearly read the contents as a user? (2) is there a way to get around this? Maybe using a special manifest file for the application? And, by the way, my OS is Windows 7, 64-bit. be well -h-

• linux new/delete, malloc/free large memory blocks

  Hi folks, We have a linux system (kubuntu 7.10) that runs a number of CORBA Server processes. The server software uses glibc libraries for memory allocation. The linux PC has 4G physical memory. Swap is disabled for speed reasons. Upon receiving a request to process data, one of the server processes allocates a large data buffer (using the standard C++ operator 'new'). The buffer size varies depening upon a number of parameters but is typically around 1.2G Bytes. It can be up to about 1.9G Bytes. When the request has completed, the buffer is released using 'delete'. This works fine for several consecutive requests that allocate buffers of the same size or if the request allocates a smaller size than the previous. The memory appears to be free'd ok - otherwise buffer allocation attempts would eventually fail after just a couple of requests. In any case, we can see the buffer memory being allocated and freed for each request using tools such as KSysGuard etc. The problem arises when a request requires a buffer larger than the previous. In this case, operator 'new' throws an exception. It's as if the memory that has been free'd from the first allocation cannot be re-allocated even though there is sufficient free physical memory available. If I kill and restart the server process after the first operation, then the second request for a larger buffer size succeeds. i.e. killing the process appears to fully release the freed memory back to the system. Can anyone offer an explanation as to what might be going on here? Could it be some kind of fragmentation or mapping table size issue? I am thinking of replacing new/delete with malloc/free and use mallopt to tune the way the memory is being released to the system. BTW - I'm not sure if it's relevant to our problem, but the server uses Pthreads that get created and destroyed on each processing request. Cheers, Brian.

  I want to separate my system.serviceModel section of the web.config into a separate file to facilitate some environment settings. My efforts have been fruitless. When I attempt it using this method. The wcf code throws an exception: "The type initializer for 'System.ServiceModel.ClientBase 1 threw an exception. Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong? • latin1/unicode conversion problem with ajax request and special characters

  Server is PHP5 and HTML charset is latin1 (iso-8859-1). With regular form POST requests, there's no problem with "special" characters like the em dash (–) for example. Although I don't know for sure, it works. Probably because there exists a representable character for the browser at char code 150 (which is what I see in PHP on the server for a literal em dash with ord). Now our application also provides some kind of preview mechanism via ajax: the text is sent to the server and a complete HTML for a preview is sent back. However, the ordinary char code 150 em dash character when sent via ajax (tested with GET and POST) mutates into something more: %E2%80%93. I see this already in the apache log. According to various sources I found, e.g. http://www.tachyonsoft.com/uc0020.htm , this is the UTF8 byte representation of em dash and my current knowledge is that JavaScript handles everything in Unicode. However within my app, I need everything in latin1. Simply said: just like a regular POST request would have given me that em dash as char code 150, I would need that for the translated UTF8 representation too. That's were I'm failing, because with PHP on the server when I try to decode it with either utf8_decode(...) or iconv('UTF-8', 'iso-8859-1', ...) but in both cases I get a regular ? representing this character (and iconv also throws me a notice: Detected an illegal character in input string ). My goal is to find an automated solution, but maybe I'm trying to be überclever in this case? I've found other people simply doing manual replacing with a predefined input/output set; but that would always give me the feeling I could loose characters. The observant reader will note that I'm behind on understanding the full impact/complexity with things about Unicode and conversion of chars and I definitely prefer to understand the thing as a whole then a simply manual mapping. thanks

  Can someone explain me why this code compiles and runs fine, despite the fact that SortedSet is an interface and not a concrete class: public static void main(String[] args) { Integer[] nums = {4, 7, 8, 14, 45, 33}; List<Integer> numList = Arrays.asList(nums); TreeSet<Integer> numSet = new TreeSet<Integer>(); numSet.addAll(numList); SortedSet<Integer> sSet = numSet.subSet(5, 20); sSet.add(17); System.out.println(sSet); } It prints normally the result: [7, 8, 14, 17] Furthermore, my wonder is heightened by the fact that the SortedSet cannot be instansiated (expectedly). This line does not compile: SortedSet<Integer> sSet = new SortedSet<Integer>(); However, if I try the code: public static void main(String[] args) { Integer[] nums = {4, 7, 8, 14, 45, 33}; List<Integer> numList = Arrays.asList(nums); numList.add(56); System.out.println(numList); } it throws an UnsupportedOperationException. I reckon, this comes from the fact that List is an interface and cannot be handled as a concrete class. What is true about SortedSet?

• How to enforce foreign keys using Xerial SQLite JDBC?

  According to their release notes, the Xerial SQLite JDBC driver supports foreign keys since version 3.6.20.1. I have tried some time now to get a foreign key constraint to be enforced, but to no avail. • Intercepting hyperlinks in an embedded Word document

  Hello, I'm working on an app which uses embedded Word documents. We have a feature which allows them to insert a small clickable image into the doc - when the user clicks on it, we want the app to open another window based on some data specified by the user when the image was added. What the application does now is: When the image is inserted, the app creates a hyperlink for it and the data is used as the link destination The user ctrl+clicks on the image and the Word document the WindowSelectionChange event The app handles the WindowSelectionChange event and goes to open the specified window This approach worked fine with previous versions, when we had the 11.0 / Word 2003 interop dll's. We upgraded to 12.0/Word 2007 for the upcoming release, and in many cases the event is not firing when I click on the image - sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't, and I'm descending into the cargo-cult world trying to figure out why - sometimes saving and re-opening the document works, sometimes killing the Word process and starting a new one fixes (or breaks) the feature. My guess is there's something going wrong with the WinSelChg event, but I'm not sure what. The usual process we have for applying the event handler is: try //remove the old one if any { ((Document)myAXFramerControl.ActiveDocument).Application.WindowSelectionChange -= new ApplicationEvents4_WindowSelectionChangeEventHandler(WSC_eventhandlerfunction); } catch{} ((Document)myAXFramerControl.ActiveDocument).Application.WindowSelectionChange += new ApplicationEvents4_WindowSelectionChangeEventHandler(WSC_eventhandlerfunction); Sometimes one or both of these will throw exceptions - usually a NullReferenceException when removing the handler. Adding the handler sometimes throws the "com object that has been separated from its underlying rcw cannot be used" exception, which I don't understand at all - my impression was that this only occurs when you, say, store a reference to the Word application or document and try to use it later. As it stands the WSC event handler is frequently never run; while I'm happy to fiddle with the app until it works once I can't really expect the same of the users who have been happily using this feature for a while now. Any ideas?

• Configuring zend to use gmail smtp: Windows Apache dev-environment: "Could not open socket" error - repeatedly - going mad

  My dev environment is Win XP SP2 / Apache 2.something PHP 5.something_or_other My prod env is Linux Ubuntu / Apache 2.something_else PHP 5.something_or_other_else The code is all Zend Framework Version: 1.11.1 I can telnet to: smtp.gmail.com 465 from the PC. I have Mercury configured on my PC to use gmail as it's smtp host and it works just fine. (MercuryC SMTP Client). Mercury is set to use port 465 and SSL on smtp.gmail.com -- No problem. Zend mail works just fine on my production environment using the production mail server to send out mail. It's the same basic application.ini but with different values in the mail variables. On my local PC dev setup, my application.ini contains: (same values as I use in Mercury) mail.templatePath = APPLICATION_PATH "/emails" mail.sender.name = "myAccount" mail.sender.email = "[email protected]" mail.host = smtp.gmail.com mail.smtp.auth = "login" mail.smtp.username = "[email protected]" mail.smtp.password = "myPassWord" mail.smtp.ssl = "ssl" mail.smtp.port = 465 I have been doing trial and error for hours trying to get a single email out with no success. In every case, regardless of server or port settings it throws an error and reports: Could not open socket. Both Apache and Mercury Core are exceptions in my Windows Firewall config. Mercury seems to be having no problem. I have searched stackoverflow before posting this and have been googling for hours -- with no success. I am slowly losing my mind I would be very much obliged for any tip as to what might be wrong. Thanks for reading. =================== BTW When I use the SAME application.ini values on my local PC as on the production host, I get the same "Could not open socket" error. • Post method in Servlet is not being called again after being executed once

  I am implementing a database based web application using servlets. Now, when I input a parameter using a form in the jsp page, it redirects it to a servlet which subsequently adds the value to the database (the servlet creates a new table if the table doesn't already exist). The creation of the table and the addition of value works fine if the table doesn't already exists. Once it is created however and the parameter is inputted again in the form, the submit button no longer redirects it to the servlet. Nor is the value added to the database. Kindly advise me as to where I am going wrong. • How to find the first declaring method for a reference method

  Suppose you have a generic interface and an implementation: public interface MyInterface<T> { void foo(T param); } public class MyImplementation<T> implements MyInterface<T> { void foo(T param) { } } These two types are frework types. In the next step I want allow users to extend that interface as well as redeclare foo(T param) to maybe equip it with further annotations. public interface MyExtendedInterface extends MyInterface<Bar> { @Override void foo(Bar param); // Further declared methods } I create an AOP proxy for the extended interface and intercept especially the calls to furtherly declared methods. As foo(…) is no redeclared in MyExtendedInterface I cannot execute it by simply invoking MethodInvocation.proceed() as the instance of MyImplementation only implements MyInterface.foo(…) and not MyExtendedInterface.foo(…). So is there a way to get access to the method that declared a method initially? Regarding this example is there a way to find out that foo(Bar param) was declared in MyInterface originally and get access to the accoriding Method instance? I already tried to scan base class methods to match by name and parameter types but that doesn't work out as generics pop in and MyImplementation.getMethod("foo", Bar.class) obviously throws a NoSuchMethodException. I already know that MyExtendedInterface types MyInterface to Bar. So If I could create some kind of "typed view" on MyImplementation my math algorithm could work out actually.

How can I make sure the file persists even after closure of the app? Update: I have changed MODE_PRIVATE to MODE_APPEND but the problem still remains.

  I have web-service created and configured via Spring and CXF. But CXF throws SoapFault when request is not corresponding with schema. I want to send to the client SoapMessage instead of SoapFault, that's why I added outFaultInterceptors. My question is how to transform SoapFault to SoapMessage? I've made few tries but I don't know how to implement outFaultInterceptor.

  Hi, I'm developing an adding for office powerpoint application. I'm trying to display a description of the object(Customized object) currently dropped on the powerpoint slide in design mode(Design mode of the powerpoint). When i click on my addin the related object description will be displayed on a tabbed window as the first tabpage. There is a button on the tab page, and when i click on it i need the description to get copied to windows clipboard. I tried this using clipboardclass it throws the following exception, System.Threading.ThreadstateException {"Current thread must be set to single thread apartment (STA) mode before OLE calls can be made. Ensure that your Main function has STAThreadAttribute marked on it."} Code for clipboard: Clipboard.Clear() Clipboard.SetText(lblObjectID.Text) I searched the net for a solution and got couple of answers like, 1. Put [STAThread] in the main function 2. Thread.CurrentThread.SetApartmentState(ApartmentState.STA) Immediately before your call to SetDataObject. But I'm not sure where to put the 1st one and the 2nd option didn't work. Can anyone help me please. Thanks.
