  • How can I automatically create a folder, assign a home folder and logon script automatically after a new User is created?

    - by drpcken
Usually I create a new user, then set the home folder, logon script, etc... Is it possible in Active Directory when I create a new AD user object, that it goes out to my share drive and automatically creates a folder for them (naming it their username), and then assigns that folder as their home drive? It would also be helpful if it would automatically assign them a specific logon script at user creation too. Thank you!

  • nanoc installation setup in Linux

    - by Ananth
I'm a newbie to Ruby. Trying to setup nanoc in my machine. I'm running Ubuntu 14.04. After the nanoc installation, when I type $nanoc --version I get the following errors: /home/ananth/.rvm/gems/ruby-head@global/gems/bundler-1.6.2/lib/bundler/shared_helpers.rb:24:in `default_gemfile': Could not locate Gemfile (Bundler::GemfileNotFound) from /home/ananth/.rvm/gems/ruby-head@global/gems/bundler-1.6.2/lib/bundler.rb:248:in `default_gemfile' from /home/ananth/.rvm/gems/ruby-head@global/gems/bundler-1.6.2/lib/bundler.rb:192:in `root' from /home/ananth/.rvm/gems/ruby-head@global/gems/bundler-1.6.2/lib/bundler.rb:99:in `bundle_path' from /home/ananth/.rvm/gems/ruby-head@global/gems/bundler-1.6.2/lib/bundler.rb:400:in `configure_gem_home_and_path' from /home/ananth/.rvm/gems/ruby-head@global/gems/bundler-1.6.2/lib/bundler.rb:90:in `configure' from /home/ananth/.rvm/gems/ruby-head@global/gems/bundler-1.6.2/lib/bundler.rb:151:in `definition' from /home/ananth/.rvm/gems/ruby-head@global/gems/bundler-1.6.2/lib/bundler.rb:116:in `setup' from /home/ananth/.rvm/gems/ruby-head@global/gems/bundler-1.6.2/lib/bundler.rb:132:in `require' from /home/ananth/.rvm/gems/ruby-head/gems/nanoc-3.7.0/bin/nanoc:7:in `<top (required)>' from /home/ananth/.rvm/gems/ruby-head/bin/nanoc:23:in `load' from /home/ananth/.rvm/gems/ruby-head/bin/nanoc:23:in `<main>' from /home/ananth/.rvm/gems/ruby-head/bin/ruby_executable_hooks:15:in `eval' from /home/ananth/.rvm/gems/ruby-head/bin/ruby_executable_hooks:15:in `<main>' Am I missing something from my rvm? • In .NET MVC, is there an easy way to check if I'm on the home page?

    - by Hairgami_Master
I need to take a particular action if a user logs in from the home page. In my LogOnModel, I have a hidden field: @Html.Hidden("returnUrl", Request.Url.AbsoluteUri) In my Controller, I need to check if that value is the Home page or not. In the example below, I'm checking to see if the user is on a particular page ("Account/ResetPassword"). Is there a way to check to see if they're on the home page without resorting to regular expressions? [HttpPost] public ActionResult LogOnInt(LogOnModel model) { if (model.returnUrl.Contains("/Account/ResetPassword")) { return Json(new { redirectToUrl = @Url.Action("Index","Home")}); } Any ideas? A million thanks!

  • Most secure way to access my home Linux server while I am on the road? Specialized solution wanted

    - by Ace Paus
I think many people may be in my situation. I travel on business with a laptop. And I need secure access to files from the office (which in my case is my home). The short version of my question: How can I make SSH/SFTP really secure when only one person needs to connect to the server from one laptop? In this situation, what special steps would make it almost impossible for anyone else to get online access to the server? A lot more details: I use Ubuntu Linux on both my laptop (KDE) and my home/office server. Connectivity is not a problem. I can tether to my phone's connection if needed. I need access to a large number of files (around 300 GB). I don't need all of them at once, but I don't know in advance which files I might need. These files contain confidential client info and personal info such as credit card numbers, so they must be secure. Given this, I don't want store all these files on Dropbox or Amazon AWS, or similar. I couldn't justify that cost anyway (Dropbox don't even publish prices for plans above 100 GB, and security is a concern). However, I am willing to spend some money on a proper solution. A VPN service, for example, might be part of the solution? Or other commercial services? I've heard about PogoPlug, but I don't know if there is a similar service that might address my security concerns? I could copy all my files to my laptop because it has the space. But then I have to sync between my home computer and my laptop and I found in the past that I'm not very good about doing this. And if my laptop is lost or stolen, my data would be on it. The laptop drive is an SSD and encryption solutions for SSD drives are not good. Therefore, it seems best to keep all my data on my Linux file server (which is safe at home). Is that a reasonable conclusion, or is anything connected to the Internet such a risk that I should just copy the data to the laptop (and maybe replace the SSD with an HDD, which reduces battery life and performance)? I view the risks of losing a laptop to be higher. I am not an obvious hacking target online. My home broadband is cable Internet, and it seems very reliable. So I want to know the best (reasonable) way to securely access my data (from my laptop) while on the road. I only need to access it from this one computer, although I may connect from either my phone's 3G/4G or via WiFi or some client's broadband, etc. So I won't know in advance which IP address I'll have. I am leaning toward a solution based on SSH and SFTP (or similar). SSH/SFTP would provided about all the functionality I anticipate needing. I would like to use SFTP and Dolphin to browse and download files. I'll use SSH and the terminal for anything else. My Linux file server is set up with OpenSSH. I think I have SSH relatively secured. I'm using Denyhosts too. But I want to go several steps further. I want to get the chances that anyone can get into my server as close to zero as possible while still allowing me to get access from the road. I'm not a sysadmin or programmer or real "superuser". I have to spend most of my time doing other things. I've heard about "port knocking" but I have never used it and I don't know how to implement it (although I'm willing to learn). I have already read a number of articles with titles such as: Top 20 OpenSSH Server Best Security Practices 20 Linux Server Hardening Security Tips Debian Linux Stop SSH User Hacking / Cracking Attacks with DenyHosts Software more... I have not implemented every single thing I've read about. I probably can't do that. But maybe there is something even better I can do in my situation because I only need access from a single laptop. I'm just one user. My server does not need to be accessible to the general public. Given all these facts, I'm hoping I can get some suggestions here that are within my capability to implement and that leverage these facts to create a great deal better security than general purpose suggestions in the articles above.

  • Unix tree convert to recursive php array

    - by Fordnox
I have a response from remote server like this: /home/computer/Downloads |-- /home/computer/Downloads/Apple | `-- /home/computer/Downloads/Apple/Pad |-- /home/computer/Downloads/Empty_Folder `-- /home/computer/Downloads/Subfolder |-- /home/computer/Downloads/Subfolder/Empty `-- /home/computer/Downloads/Subfolder/SubSubFolder `-- /home/computer/Downloads/Subfolder/SubSubFolder/Test this is the output for command computer@athome:$ tree -df --noreport -L 5 /home/computer/Downloads/ I would like to parse this string to recursive php array or object, something like this. I would show only part of result to get the idea. array( 'title' => '/home/computer/Downloads', 'children' => array( 0 => array( 'title' => '/home/computer/Downloads/Apple', 'children' => array( ... ) ) ); Response from server can change according to scanned directory. Can someone help me write this function. Please note that this is response from remote server and php functions can not scan any remote dir.

  • SVN update a working copy when parents are updated

    - by ruckuus
I have two SVN branches and I plan to partially copy the first working copy to another. I did this: Libs /home/user/projects/libs/{lib1, lib2, lib3} Core /home/user/projects/Apps/{libs,core} svn copy --parents /home/user/projects/libs/lib1/* /home/user/projects/Apps/libs/1 svn copy --parents /home/user/projects/libs/lib2/* /home/user/projects/Apps/libs/2 svn copy --parents /home/user/projects/libs/lib3/* /home/user/projects/Apps/libs/3 The question: My peers are still working on /home/user/projects/libs/lib1, and when this repository is updated with new codes, I want my /home/user/projects/Apps/libs also updated. Is there any way to do that "automatically"? I tried to do with the same svn copy command, and of course it fails with: svn: Path '/home/user/projects/Apps/libs/1' already exists

  • How to bridge Debian guest VM to VPN via Cisco AnyConnect Client running on Windows Vista host

    - by bgoodr
I am running Cisco Anyconnect VPN Client version 2.5.3054 on a laptop running Windows Vista Home Premium (version 6.0.6002) Service Pack 2. I am running the VMware Player version 4.0.2 build-591240. The host operating system running under VMware Player is Debian 6.0.2.1 i386. The laptop is connected to a wireless connection, and I can browse the web from Windows Vista using Firefox just fine. I am able to boot into the Debian VM and open up a browser and access websites on the WAN from within the VM just fine. I can ping real Linux hosts on my LAN via: ping <lan_system>.local where <lan_system> is the hostname returned from uname -a on that system on my LAN. From a DOS CMD shell, I am able to ping hosts that exist on the remote network served by the Cisco AnyConnect Client's VPN network (and without the .local suffix applied as above): ping <remote_system> However, from within the Debian VM, I expect to be able to also ping those same remote hosts (<remote_system>) that are tunnelled over the VPN set up by Cisco AnyConnect Client. Let's say that I can ping a <remote_system> called flubber from a DOS CMD prompt just fine. When I execute Linux ping command from inside the Debian VM via: ping flubber It returns immediately with this output: ping: unknown host flubber For reference since I suspect it will be useful, here is the output of the route print command from the DOS CMD prompt: route print =========================================================================== Interface List 30 ...00 05 9a 3c 7a 00 ...... • bad pool header 0x00000019 in windows 7 home premium when connecting to net followed by BSOD.

    - by shankar
Hi, I am have random blue screen errors with an error code of bad pool header 0x00000019 whenever I try going online. I use a usb datacard/modem but when I try logging in using a regular dsl/broadband connection, I have the same issue. I had searched the query in windows knowledge base which said it is an issue with windows 7 and have provided a hot fix which they do not gaurentee. My vendor says something is wrong with my ram and has ordered for a new set of ram, but in my opinion if it was a ram related issue, the crashes should have occured even while playing games which are supposed to be ram intensive...If you need the mini dumps I can provide you the same..Kindly revert back..

  • Why does bash sometimes think my $HOME isn't the correct directory?

    - by Adam Yanalunas
Like the title says it seems that bash sometimes misidentifies my $HOME. This cropped up after a seemingly unique series of events that I will now replay in broad strokes. Running OS X 10.6 with normal, local account Work binds my account to Active Directory Much time passes with no issues Set up rvm to manage Ruby installs (this becomes important later) Upgraded to OS X 10.7 a few days ago After successful install, attempted to log in, was presented with "Must reset password" dialog that never allowed a password to be reset. Would simply shake the box after new password was entered. Much googling was done. Much more googling was done. Swearing was had. Logged in as root, created new account, set as admin, deleted /Users/[new account], renamed /Users/[old account] to /Users/[new account] Logged out of root, logged into new account with no issues After OS X asking for a my account password a few times to update Keychain and other system-level stuff it was back to business as usual. Opened Terminal, cd to project folder, tried "rails server" and was presented with: /usr/local/lib/ruby/1.9.1/rubygems/dependency.rb:247:in to_specs': Could not find rails (>= 0) amongst [] (Gem::LoadError) from /usr/local/lib/ruby/1.9.1/rubygems/dependency.rb:256:into_spec' from /usr/local/lib/ruby/1.9.1/rubygems.rb:1210:in gem' from /usr/local/bin/rails:18:in' Ran through a few exercises, decided to rm -rf ~/.rvm and reinstall. Running a --trace on the rvm installer shows it dies on this line: mkdir: /Users/[old account]: Permission denied Scrolling back through the --trace log I see many more mentions of /Users/[old account]. When inspect the install script the offending line is looking at "${HOME}/.rvm" as it tries to run the mkdir. To my confusion I also see mentions of /Users/[new account] in the log. I've tried exporting a new HOME in my .bash_profile to no luck. Can anyone guess why /Users/[old account] would still be kicking around?

  • (solved) `ssh foo "<command/>"` not loading remote aliases?

    - by TomRoche
summary: Why does this fail $ ssh foo 'R --version | head -n 1' bash: R: command not found but this succeeds $ ssh foo 'grep -nHe 'bashrc' ~/.bash_profile' /home/me/.bash_profile:3:# source the users .bashrc if it exists /home/me/.bash_profile:4:if [ -f "${HOME}/.bashrc" ] ; then /home/me/.bash_profile:5: source "${HOME}/.bashrc" $ ssh foo 'grep -nHe "\WR\W" ~/.bashrc' /home/me/.bashrc:118:alias R='/share/linux86_64/bin/R' $ ssh foo '/share/linux86_64/bin/R --version | head -n 1' R version 2.14.1 (2011-12-22) ? details: I am a (rootless) user on 2 clusters. One uses environment modules, so any given server on that cluster can provide (via module add) pretty much the same resources. The other cluster, on which I must also unfortunately work, has servers managed individually, so I get in the habit of doing, e.g., EXEC_NAME='whatever' for S in 'foo' 'bar' 'baz' ; do ssh ${SERVER} "${EXEC_NAME} --version" done This works fine for packages installed normally/consistently, but often (for reasons unknown to me) packages are not: e.g. (compare alias below to alias above), $ ssh bar 'R --version | head -n 1' bash: R: command not found $ ssh bar 'grep -nHe 'bashrc' ~/.bash_profile' /home/me/.bash_profile:3:# source the users .bashrc if it exists /home/me/.bash_profile:4:if [ -f "${HOME}/.bashrc" ] ; then /home/me/.bash_profile:5: source "${HOME}/.bashrc" $ ssh bar 'grep -nHe "\WR\W" ~/.bashrc' /home/me/.bashrc:118:alias R='/share/linux/bin/R' $ ssh bar '/share/linux86_64/bin/R --version | head -n 1' R version 2.14.1 (2011-12-22) Using aliases copes well with these install differences when I interactively shell into the server, but fails when I try to script ssh commands (as above); i.e., # interactively $ ssh foo ... foo> R --version calls my alias for R on remote host=foo, but # scripting $ ssh foo 'R --version' doesn't. What do I need to do to make ssh foo "<command/>" load my aliases on the remote host?

  • Optimal setup for ASUS P6X58D Premium BIOS (no OC)?

    - by rumtscho
Normally, I'd trust the mainboard manufacturer to choose the best options as defaults. But I had trouble with the board, because even with Quick Boot enabled, it booted twice as slowly as a Pentium 4 Celeron. Then I changed lots of options at once (most of them weren't explained in the manual, just mentioned with a single sentence) and the boot time is only marginally worse than the Pentium 4 (54 sec against 46 sec from button to pw entering screen). Now I don't know if I have turned something off which should have stayed on. I guess I even won't be able to boot from a CD now, because even though it is present in the boot sequence, I took off a timeout I think it needs to check whether there is a disk in the drive. The second reason is that I don't have an internal HDD, only a SSD. I forgot my sources blush but I am under the impression that today's BIOS and OS options are geared toward booting from a HDD, which is often less than optimal when one boots from a SSD, especially when there are functions which cause avoidable writing cycles, as a SSD wears out after too many writing cycles. Most of the things I've read concern the OS, but there are some BIOS-relevant options too. I am especially confused about the disk mode. The board supports AHCI, IDE-simulation and RAID, but of the different articles I've read, there is a proponent for each and no clear arguments for any. So can one tell me which options are important in general and which are important for a SSD-only system? I don't want to overclock the CPU, so you don't have to say anything about this (yes I know the board is meant for OC:)). I am thinking of overclocking the RAM, since they sold me 1600er heatsinked modules which are running at 1066 now, but I'm not sure yet about that. The rest of the system: i7-930, Intel X25-m G2, 6 GB RAM, GTS 250, some no-name Blue-ray ROM. 2 external HDDs over USB 2.0. Lots of other USB-connected hardware (12 devices I think), no SATA 3 drives (will disabling the controller have an impact on performance?), no LAN, only WiFi. Lucid Lynx 64 bit, no dual boot, no virtual installations. The main uses of the system are: managing and playing/showing all the media stored on the external disks, lots of image manipulation, some video editing, a bit of (non-demanding) gaming, rarely development. Lots of Internet surfing too, but this shouldn't have much impact on performance.

  • Move 53,800+ files into 54 separate folders with ~1000 files each?

    - by ane
Trying to import 53,800+ individual files (messages) using Gmail's POP fetcher. Gmail understandably refuses, giving the error: "Too many messages to download. There are too many messages on the other server." The folder in question looks like similar to: /usr/home/customer/Maildir/cur/1203672790.V57I586f04M867101.mail.net:2,S /usr/home/customer/Maildir/cur/1203676329.V57I586f22M520117.mail.net:2,S /usr/home/customer/Maildir/cur/1203677194.V57I586f26M688004.mail.net:2,S /usr/home/customer/Maildir/cur/1203679158.V57I586f2bM182864.mail.net:2,S /usr/home/customer/Maildir/cur/1203680493.V57I586f33M740378.mail.net:2,S /usr/home/customer/Maildir/cur/1203685837.V57I586f0bM835200.mail.net:2,S /usr/home/customer/Maildir/cur/1203687920.V57I586f65M995884.mail.net:2,S ... Using the shell (tcsh, sh, etc. on FreeBSD), what one-line command can I type to split this directory full of files into separate folders so Gmail only sees 1000 messages at a time? Something with find or ls | xargs mv maybe. Whatever is fastest. The desired output directory would now look something like: /usr/home/customer/Maildir/cur/1203672790.V57I586f04M867101.mail.net:2,S /usr/home/customer/Maildir/cur/1203676329.V57I586f22M520117.mail.net:2,S ... /usr/home/customer/set1/ (contains messages 1-1000) /usr/home/customer/set2/ (contains messages 1001-2000) /usr/home/customer/set3/ (etc.) Ideally, cron could run another command to automatically reverse the process in 1000 message increments every hour. So Gmail only sees & downloads 1000 at a time.

  • How to keep an old VB6 application running in Windows Vista and Windows 7?

    - by MusiGenesis
I have an old VB6 app which I'm still trying to support. A few users have reported weird crashes when running the app in Vista or Windows 7. The log files don't show anything after one of these crashes, but the customers report that the error message said "OLE something ...", if they saw anything at all. I've never been able to reproduce these crashes while running the program on my own Vista or Windows 7 boxes, so I have essentially no information on what the problem is. My suspicion is that it's a problem with their versions of one or more of the umpteen billion DLLs that a VB6 application is dependent on. The app also uses lame_enc.dll, which introduces a few more dependencies. I'm guessing this is a common problem with VB6 apps (although it's possible that I just sucked as a programmer 10 years ago). Is there some magical installer/updater out there that makes sure all the VB6 dependencies are what they need to be for a VB6 app to function properly?

  • Can I run Visual Studio 2008 x86 on Windows Vista x64?

    - by TheCodeJunkie
Hi, Is it possible to run the 32-bit version of Visual Studio 2008 Professional on a Windows Vista 64-bit system? Are there any known caveats that I would need to be aware of? Would have to install the x64 version of the .NET Framework? Would there be any issues on building software targeted for x86? Would there be any (justifiable) arguments for getting the x64 version of VS2008 instead of reusing the current x86 license? Quite tempted on getting a x64 Vista rig to be able to take advantage of more RAM :)
