  • Other Ideas to troubleshoot Cisco IPSec VPN on OSX?

    We have one user running OSX Snow Leopard who is having issues staying connected to our VPN running off of an ASA5510. His connection can die even as he's actively pushing traffic across it or if he's been idle for a period of time. Other users on Snow Leopard, Lion, XP, Vista, 7 and various linux flavors are able to stay connected for 24hrs+ without issue We've deleted and remade the connection in System Preferences Networking, ran killall racoon (kills any lingering connections) Below are the logs from the user's system.log from a connect/disconnect cycle: Oct 10 21:22:25 username racoon[8192]: Connecting.   • Why are my USB 2.0 devices hanging Windows XP?

    Background on the machine I'm having a problem with: The machine was inherited and appears to be circa 2003 (there's a date stamp on the power supply which leads me to this conclusion). I've got it set up as a Skype terminal for my 2 year old to keep in touch with her grandparents and other members of the family - which everyone loves. It has a DFI CM33-TL/G ATX (identified using SiSoft Sandra) motherboard hosting an Intel Celeron 1.3GHz CPU, 768Mb PC133 SDRAM, a D-LINK WDA-2320 54G Wi-Fi network card and a generic USB 2.0 expansion board based on the NEC uPD720102 chipset containing 3 external and 1 internal USB sockets. It's also hosting a 1.44Mb floppy drive on FDD0, a new 80Gb Western Digital hard drive running as master on IDE0 and a Panasonic DVD+/-RW running as master on IDE1. All this is sitting in a slimline case running off a Macron Power MPT-135 135W Flex power supply. The motherboard is running a version of Award BIOS 05/24/2002-601T-686B-6A6LID4AC-00. Could this be updated? If so, from where? I've raked through the manufacturer's website but can't find any hint of downloads for either drivers or BIOS updates. The hard disk is freshly formatted and built with Windows XP Professional/Service Pack 3 and is up to date with all current patches. In addition to Windows XP, the only other software it's running is Skype 4.1 (4.2 hangs the whole machine as soon as it starts up, requiring a hard boot to recover). It's got a Daytek MV150 15" touch screen hooked up to the on board VGA and COM1 sockets with the most current drivers from the Daytek website and the most current version of ELO-Touchsystems drivers for the touch component. The webcam is a Logitech Webcam C200 with the latest drivers from the Logitech website. The problem: If I hook any devices to the USB 2.0 sockets, it hangs the whole machine and I have to hard boot it to get it back up. If I have any devices attached to the USB 2.0 sockets when I boot up, it hangs before Windows gets to the login prompt and I have to hard boot it to recover. Workarounds found: I can plug the same devices into the on board USB 1.0 sockets and everything works fine, albeit at reduced performance. I've tried 3 different kinds of USB thumb drives, 3 different makes/models of webcams and my iPhone all with the same effect. They're recognized and don't hang the machine when I hook them to the USB 1.0 but if I hook them to the USB 2.0 ports, the machine hangs within a couple of seconds of recognizing the devices were connected. Attempted solutions: I've seen suggestions that this could be a power problem - that the PSU just doesn't have the wattage to drive these ports. While I'm doubtful this is the problem [after all the motherboard has the same standard connector regardless of the PSU wattage], I tried disabling all the on board devices that I'm not using - on board LAN, the second COM port, the AGP connector etc. through the BIOS in what I'm sure is a futile attempt to reduce the power consumption... I also modified the ACPI and power management settings. It didn't have any noticeable affect, although it didn't do any harm either. Could the wattage of the PSU really cause this problem? If it can, is there anything I need to be aware of when replacing it or do I just need to make sure it's got a higher wattage than the current one? My interpretation was that the wattage only affected the number of drives you could hook up to the power connectors, is that right? I've installed the USB card in another machine and it works without issue, so it's not a problem with the USB card itself, and Windows says the card is installed and working correctly... right up until I connect a device to it. The only thing I haven't done which I only just thought of while writing this essay is trying the USB 2.0 card in a different PCI slot, or re-ordering the wi-fi and USB cards in the slots... although I'm not sure if this will make any difference - does anyone have any experience that would suggest this might work?   • Windows XP periodically disconnects, reconnects; Windows 7 doesn't

    My setup: I have a PC with a Gigabyte GA-MA78S2H motherboard (Realtek Gigabit wired Ethernet on-board). I have the latest drivers (at least the latest driver for the NIC. I'm connecting via an Edimax BR-6216Mg (again, wired connection). For some reason I experience short periodic disconnects and reconnects. Specifically, Skype disconnects, tries to connect, succeeds after a short while; incoming SFTP sessions get dropped; using a browser, I sometime get stuck in the DNS lookup or connection to the website and a page won't load. A couple of seconds later, a reload works. All this happens with Windows XP SP3. With Windows 7, it doesn't happen. The connection is smooth (OS is sluggish though, but never mind that). Like I said, I updated the NIC driver. I tried reducing the MTU (used something called Dr. TCP), thinking maybe that would help, but it didn't. (I'm a bit but not super-knowledgeable about TCP parameters.) On board it has 1 x 10/100 LAN, 2 x USB 1.0, VGA, PS/2 for KB and mouse, parallel port, 2 x serial ports, 2 x IDE, 1 x floppy, 2 x SDRAM slots, 1 x CPU housing that is seating a 1.3GHz Intel Celeron CPU, 3 x PCI, 1 x AGP - although you can only use 2 of the PCI slots if you use the AGP slot due to the physical layout of the board. It's got 768Mb PC133 SDRAM - 1 x 512Mb & 1 x 256Mb installed as well as a D-LINK WDA-2320 54G Wi-Fi network card and a generic USB 2.0 expansion board containing 3 x external + 1 x internal USB connectors. It has a DVD+/-RW running as master on IDE1 and a 1.44Mb 3.5" floppy drive connected to the floppy connector. It has an 80Gb Western Digital hard drive running as master on IDE0.   • Connecting via ShrewSoft VPN client means no LAN internet access (Windows 7 64 bit) - any advice please?

    I have a Windows 7 64 bit desktop machine which is connected to a LAN. I recently installed ShrewSoft VPN client v 2.1.7 on my machine so that I can connect to a license server hosted by my customer. They are running a Cisco VPN server and I originally tried (unsuccessfully!) to use the Cisco VPN client for Windows 64 bit but the default gateway wasn't being configured correctly after loading in my pcf file. Using ShrewSoft I am able to import the same pcf file, and successfully connect to the machine I need to using the VPN client software. The client machine I need to connect to has IP address 1.52.90.33. The problem is that when I am connected to the customer network using the VPN client application (and after a few minutes) I lose my LAN internet connection. I can only presume that this is because, by default the ShrewSoft VPN client application automatically tunnels all traffic through the VPN connection. I know there is an option to switch off the "Tunnel All" option on the Policy tab of the application and enter a Remote Network Resource (to "Include" or "Exclude") as "Address" and "Netmask" IP addresses however I am not sure what I need to enter here.   • IPV6 causing issue with DNS

    I have set up an 'internal' DNS at my work, basically we have ourdomain.com that is for internet, email etc and I have created on one of our linux network servers (debian) a DNS using bind9 with the domain ourdomain.inc. So based on my files below and the symptoms I'm describing; what effect could IPV6 be having on my setup? What can I do to fix this? I assume it is not actually the IPV6 causing the issue, but rather something in my setup.   • Edit and render RichText

    We have an application (a custom network management tool for building automation) that supports printing labels that you can cut out and insert into the devices' front displays. In earlier versions of the tool (not developed in my company), the application just pushed the strings into an Excel file that the field technician could then manipulate (like formatting text). We didn't do this in the new version because it was hard (impossible) to keep the Excel file in sync, and to avoid a binding to an external application (let alone different versions of Excel). We're using PDFSharp for rendering the labels. It has a System.Drawing-like interface, but can output to a System.Drawing.Graphics (screen / printer) as well as to a PDF file, which is a requirement. Later, basic formatting was introduced like Font Family, Style, Size, Color which would apply to one label (i.e. to exactly one string). Now the customer wants to be able to apply these formats to single characters in a string. I think the easiest way would be to support a subset of RichText. It's not as easy as I thought though. Currently the editor just displays a TextBox for the label you want to edit, with the font set to the label's font. I thought I'd just replace it with RichTextBox, and update the formatting buttons to use the RichTextBox formatting properties. Fairly easy. However, I need to draw the text. I know you can get the RichTextBox to draw to a HDC or System.Drawing.Graphics - but as already said, I need it to use PDFSharp. Rendering to bitmaps is not an option, since the PDF must not be huge, and it's a lot of labels. Unfortunately I couldn't get the RichTextBox to tell me the layout of the text - I'm fine with doing the actual rendering by hand, as long as I know where to draw what. This is the first question: How can I get the properly layouted metrics of the rich text out of a RichTextBox? Or is there any way to convert the rich text to a vector graphics format that can be easily drawn manually? I know about NRTFTree which can be used to parse and manipulate RichText. The documentation is bad (actually I don't know, it's Spanish), but I think I can get it to work. As far as I understood, it won't provide layouting as well. Because of this, I think I'll have to write a custom edit control (remember, it's basically just one or two line labels with basic RTF formatting, not a full-fledged edit control - more like editing a textbox in PowerPoint) and write custom text layout logic that used PDFSharp rather than System.Drawing for drawing. Is there any existing, even if partial, solution available, either for the editing or for doing the layout manually (or both)? Or is there an entirely different approach I'm just not seeing? Bonus points if exporting the label texts as RTF into a CSV file, and then importing in Excel retains the formatting. For the editing part, I need it to work in Windows Forms. Other than that it's not Windows-Forms-related, I think.

    the grid appears properly on template's first loading. But when you click the paging button to load flooders.php thru list_result1() only the paging buttons will appear.   • mootools slideshow not working with JQuery. Need help !

    I am working on a site http://tapasya.co.in where i just impemented mootools slideshow. But I noticed that menubar that i was using stopped working, it was supposed to drop horizontaly but it is not being displayed now. I have used jquery for it. Please see the source of the web page.     I'm trying to get a third party audio library (STK) working inside Xcode. Along with the standard .h files, many of the implementation files include a file called SKINI.msg. SKINI.msg is in the same directory as all of the header files. The header files are getting included fine, but the compiler complains that it can't find SKINI.msg. What do I need to do to get Xcode to happily include SKINI.msg? The second bit of code below has a width of 520px, the only way that the div on the page will be 520px is if I leave the css code thats above that one, the 1st one with no existing div on the page HAS to be on the page for the second css code to work, At first I thought it has to be a browser caching issue, so I clear my cache and that does nothing, I then try 2 other browsers and they all have the same result. I add the 1st bit of code into the page and the second bit works, I take the first bit away and the second bit does not work.   • My VARCHAR(MAX) field is capping itself at 4000; what gives?

    Hello all... I have a table in one of my databases which is a queue of emails. Emails to certain addresses get accumulated into one email, which is done by a sproc. In the sproc, I have a table variable which I use to build the accumulated bodies of the emails, and then loop through to send each email. In my table var I have my body column defined as VARCHAR(MAX), seeing as there could be any number of emails currently accumulated for a given email address. It seems though that even though my column is defined as VARCHAR(MAX) it is behaving as if it were VARCHAR(4000) and is truncating the data going into it, although it does NOT throw any exceptions, it just silently stops concatenating any more data after 4000 characters. The MERGE statement is where it is building the accumulated email body into @EMAILS.BODY, which is the field that is truncating itself at 4000 characters. Below is the code of my sproc... CPython is hosted inside this application server (using Python for .NET). The automation objects have scripting functionality built-in (using a custom, .NET-based language). These scripts call Python functions. The Python functions are part of a system to track Work-In-Progress on the factory floor. The purpose of the system is to track the produced widgets along the process, ensure that the widgets go through the process in the correct order, and check that certain conditions are met along the process. The widget production history and widget state is stored in a relational database, this is where SQLAlchemy plays its part.   • JQuery SelectToUISlider Issues

    Hopefully this hasn't been asked before as just a slider question, but I couldn't find an answer when already browsing questions. So, here goes: I have a SelectToUISlider (http://www.filamentgroup.com/lab/update_jquery_ui_slider_from_a_select_element_now_with_aria_support/) which is basically a modified JQuery UI Slider, and I'm using a range value. So, I start with one handle at 60, and another at 100 (scale from 0 to 100). What I want to do is click a radio button so that the 100 changes to a 0, and be able to change back to 100. I have been unsuccessful at changing it via JQuery selectors/javascript. However, when changing the selects to move the handles, this works, but the range appears not to follow if the second handle (at 100) moves to 0 behind the first handle (at 60). I'm thinking I might have to destroy the slider and rebuild it with the second handle (that starts as 100) become the first handle at 0 in this scenario (although I've tried destroying it and it doesn't seem to respond to that either.)     In every browser but IE, on euroworker.no/order the little green arrow under the word "produkt" sits on top of my div container. Why in the world does this not work in IE? Thing is, it works on two pages out of four in IE but all four in other browsers.   • Hidden Field asp.net

    I want to hide columns in asp.net in GridView then access the values in GridViewSelectIndexChanged using vb.net. I am using hidden fields in the GridView.   • $.noConflict() not working with mootools slide show. Need help !

    I am working on a site http://tapasya.co.in where i just impemented mootools slideshow. But I noticed that menubar that i was using stopped working, it was supposed to drop horizontaly but it is not being displayed now. I have used jquery for it. Please see the source of the web page. What can be the problem ? Mootools conflicting with javascript or some other problem.   • jQuery JSON encode set of input values

    I need tp serialize a group of input elements but I can't for the life of me figure out this simple task. I can successfully iterate through the targeted inputs using: $("#tr_Features :input").each(function() { ... } Here's my code, that doesn't work: var features = new Array(); $("#tr_Features :input").each(function() { features += {$(this).attr("name"): $(this).val()}; } Serializing the entire form won't give me what I need. The form has much more than this subset of inputs. This seems like it should be a pretty straightforward task but apparently programming late into a Friday afternoon isn't a good thing.   • Mimicking a HBox / VBox with CSS

    I'm an old school tables guy, and am pretty baffled when it comes to modern HTML. I'm trying to something as simple as vertical / horizontal layouts (i.e. Flex's hbox/vbox), but am having major difficulty replicating them. An old table would look something like this for an HBox: <table width="100%" height="100"> <tr valign="middle"> <td nowrap style="background-color:#CCC">I am text on grey</td> <td width="50%" valign="top">displays top</td> <td width="50%" align="right">Autosize Fill (displays bottom right)</td> </tr> </table> Now I'm trying to do this with div's, but to no avail. When using display:inline, I cannot set a percentage width -- it only takes explicit widths. When using float:left, settings 100% percentage width causes it to really be 100% and pushes the next div down.
