  • Hard disk permission after bootcamp ??

    Hi all, I have a question concerning hard disk permission after Using boot camp, i have a macbook pro 17 i7, 500gb, yesterday i installed window 7 ultimate in 80 gb (bootcamp) ntfs offcourse. I was testing my HD permission since i found that the start up is slow in mac side. I found there's alot of changes in permissions is that normal or i should to repair all this permission problems, need to mention that from Windows side i can see my mac drive which i don't want...   • In virtualbox, I can't access the dvd drive to install a guest host

    I have installed a fresh copy of Ubuntu Server 12.04 and VirtualBox 4.3. I have set up a VM called "MediaServer" and tried to start it. I then get the following error: Cannot open host device '/dev/sr0' for readonly access. Check the permissions of that device ('/bin/ls -l /dev/sr0'): Most probably you need to be member of the device group. Make sure that you logout/login after changing the group settings of the current user (VERR_ACCESS_DENIED) I have looked all over the Internet and have been unable to find a solution. Using Webmin, I tried changing the group settings so that my user name was in the "vboxusers" group, but that did not work either. I tried various other changes in group settings and none of them worked. Also, I tried rebooting the server after the changes and that didn't work either. I have been following a guide on how to set up an Ubuntu server from the website "linuxhomeserverguide.com" and when it came to the section where you could finally set up your first virtual machine, I am stumped. I would really appreciate it if someone could help me. Thanks in advance.

    Oracle VM VirtualBox is great for trying out the latest and greatest technologies and platforms. So when Microsoft recently announced the Developer Preview for Windows Server 2012 R2 and Windows 8.1,  it was with eager anticipation that FatBloke ran to the TechNet Evaluation Center to download the isos. Once downloaded,  a new VM in VirtualBox Manager was created that used Windows 2012 (64-bit) OS type and all the defaults were selected. And on starting the VM, and pointing to the iso file to install from, the excitement rose as we saw a cool new splashscreen image: But suddenly our hopes are dashed.... It would seem that this platform requires an instruction (CMPXCHG16B) that VirtualBox doesn't offer "out-of-the-box".  Fear not, for the VirtualBox team knew that this day would finally arrive and have prepared an "in case of emergency" switch as follows: Power off the vm; At the command line type:  VBoxManage setextradata [vmname] VBoxInternal/CPUM/CMPXCHG16B 1 Start the VM and install Windows Server 2012 R2 This will be enabled by default in a future release, but geeks can't wait, hence this blog. Is openssl not installed? $ yum install openssl Loaded plugins: langpacks, presto, refresh-packagekit Package 1:openssl-1.0.1e-4.fc18.x86_64 already installed and latest version Nothing to do Its there.... ??? wth Fedora?

I have searched for a concise tutorial that covers setting up a DNS with a nameserver that hosts (my) or the site. I am fully aware that this is not recommended and am using this for my learning purposes. Getting to the question, due to the lack of information in tutorials I looked at (nothing about rfc 1918 and no example of swapping these with ISP IP) is my router modification going to help me as it does not seem to be. I have also tried as recommended using my ISP IP instead of the values I posted. My site never propagated to my nameserver. What could be causing this? I have run dig thejarbar.org @88.89.190.171 and get an authorative response. Can anyone assist me with the final steps I may be missing here?

  • Runs perfect but I can't reinstall my OS.

    hey, I have a computer that seems to have faulty hardware. I can run operating systems off of the computer and it runs perfectly, however, whenever i boot from CD to try and install a different operating system the thing tells me that the system never responds. Linux hangs after 30 seconds, windows just freaks out. I think it's a problem with how it's connecting to the hard drive. Is it possible it's just the IDE cable or do you think it's something else?

    I've got an late 2009 macbook pro 13' and yesterday I replaced the native hd (new hd: Hitachi; same form factor). I choosed "Restore from Time Machine" in the options menu on the snow leopard install discs and waited several hours to complete. After an reboot the mac shows up a white screen with apple logo and tiny loading animation. Nothing happens. After another restart; the same. Now I cant boot from CD using the C-Key and I have no idea how to fix that problem.

  • How do I recover a RAID 1 volume on Mac OS X (10.7)?

    I have a Synology NAS that I've set up with RAID 1. The device is set up with two drives, both the same size (i.e. 500 GB each), formatted in ext3, as a RAID 1 volume (i.e. even though the total capacity is 1TB, I effectively only get 500 GB). In the case of a device failure where I can only access one of the drives, how can I recover my data? The solution I'm looking for is something like: 'Put the working drive in an enclosure, and use <some software> to recover your data.'

  • Win2003 R2 - 1.5TB disks not identified

    I just installed 4 1.5TB hard disks (WD) in two servers (2 in each). Upon reboot they are not showing up in the disk manager whatsoever. I'm running Windows Server 2003 EE (32bit) with 8GB ram. They both currently have mirrored 300GB sata disks. Why aren't they being recognized? Is there a disk size limit for win2k3 r2?

However, my files are located on a separate NTFS hard drive (/media/shared/mysite/). going to http://localhost gives me a 403 how can i, securely, allow apache to read/write the NTFS disk?   • raid 0 failure, drives look fine

    Hello, after a lovely blue screen my vista 64 machine decided to reconfigure one of my drives to no longer be part of my raid volume. So now my raid fails as it only has one member disk. This happened to me about 6 months ago and I just changed the disk in question back to a raid disk and all was well. However I cant seem to find that option in my bios or raid config anymore :( Any help would be appreciated

  • Program to swap files between drives?

    Has anyone built a program/script to transfer files between 2 hard drives, but like if both are near full....so one copies 1 file over then the other copies the other file, then they delete the files that were copied? Kind of annoying, have a 6tb raid at about 4tb full, then 1 4.5tb basically full, can't really swap them easily....without doing many copies and deletes of files.... Anyone know a way to make them just swap? lol

    I have a .vmdk (VMWare hard disk) file that I cannot use as the lone disk in a new virtual machine. If I attach it to an existing virtual machine then it works fine. It has Windows Server 2003 on it. When I attempt to boot the new VM it attempts a network boot. EDIT: VMWare Workstation 6.5 I could not find a PXE option in the settings, and I did look in the VM config file for "PXE" but did not find one.

  • How can I transfer a user state of a win7 machine that won't boot?

    I have a windows 7 machine that won't boot completely, even in safe mode. I want to re-image the machine using a generic software image, but would like to keep the user data (including settings etc) that are on there ala Windows Easy Transfer. I can mount the hard disk on another machine - can I use Easy Transfer to transfer the user state of an account on the non-booted OS? Or do I need explore USMT?
