• Why does File::Find finished short of completely traversing a large directory?

  A directory exists with a total of 2,153,425 items (according to Windows folder Properties). It contains .jpg and .gif image files located within a few subdirectories. The task was to move the images into a different location while querying each file's name to retrieve some relevant info and store it elsewhere. The script that used File::Find finished at 20462 files. Out of curiosity I wrote a tiny recursive function to count the items which returned a count of 1,734,802. I suppose the difference can be accounted for by the fact that it didn't count folders, only files that passed the -f test. The problem itself can be solved differently by querying for file names first instead of traversing the directory. I'm just wondering what could've caused File::Find to finish at a small fraction of all files. The data is stored on an NTFS file system.

• Pros and cons of keeping metadata in image thumbnails

  I am working on optimizing site load speed for a few moderately high traffic sites. Some quick observations show that creating 40 picture thumbnails (e.g. 138x138 JPG @75% quality) results in 700 Kb total size with embedded metadata and 258 Kb with stripped metadata. Which means that roughly 60% of image size is metadata. So what would be pros and cons of removing metadata from thumbnails? Are there any regulations, e.g. you must keep author info / copyright info in the images? Any insights would be appreciated.

There is no div used, this is the css style body{ background-position:center; background-image:url(../images/images2.jpg) no-repeat; } The above CSS tiles all over and does centralize it, but half the image is not seen, it just kind of moves up. What I want to do is centralize the image. Could I adopt the image to view even on a 21". Appreciate help. Thanks Jean

  I've got raw data streams from image files, like: vector<char> rawData(fileSize); ifstream inFile("image.jpg"); inFile.read(&rawData[0]); I want to parse the headers of different image formats for height and width. Is there a portable library that can can read ints, longs, shorts, etc. from the buffer/stream, converting for endianess as specified? I'd like to be able to do something like: short x = rawData.readLeShort(offset); or long y = rawData.readBeLong(offset) An even better option would be a lightweight & portable image metadata library (without the extra weight of an image manipulation library) that can work on raw image data. I've found that Exif libraries out there don't support png and gif.

  I want to display a few images (probably 5 max) and have a user click to select one. First thing I tried was radio buttons and putting the images inside labels. <input type="radio" name="BackgroundId" id="BackgroundId" value="1" /> <label for="BackgroundId"><img src="../../Content/images/thumb_1.jpg" /></label> Firefox will select the radio button when the user clicks the image, but IE doesn't. Is there a jquery plugin that will make the images clickable? Fancy-form looks like something I could use, but it isn't jquery and I've already got jquery in my project. Or can someone point me to a better way of selecting a single image?

I already wrote me a little program to find and load all html files, but now I am stuck at how to extract src, title and alt from the html < img src="/image/fluffybunny.jpg" title="Harvey the bunny" alt="a cute little fluffy bunny"/ I guess this should be done with some regex, but since the order of the tags may vary, and I need all of them, I don't really know how to parse this in an elegant way (I could do it the hard char by char way, but thats painful).

Instead of having WebKit retrieve scripts, CSS files and images via URLs, I want my application to provide them (e.g. retrieved from a database). For example, a "regular" web page may contain this tag: <IMG src="photos/album1/123456.jpg"> Instead of WebKit fetching this image from a server or the file system, I would prefer some kind of callback that allows my application to provide this image.   I am designing a site where external links form various are being shown on my page. I am using $url=$_GET['url']; $website_data = file_get_contents($url); echo $website_data; so essentially a user would click on a hyperlink which is something like www.test.com/display_page.php?url=http://www.xyz.com/article/2.jpg My page, list_of_images.php, typically has a list of images with href for each image as above on the page and when any image is clicked it would go to display_page.php, which would show our banner on the top of this page, some text and then this image beneath that. This image could be from any website. I am currently sending the url directly and grabbing it using GET. I understand that users/hackers can actually do some coding and send commands for the url variable and could break the server or do something harmful and so i would like to avoid this method or sending the url directly in the header. what is the alternate approach for this problem?

• Background Image displaying in Design view but not in browser? (Visual Studio 2008)

  I'm new to CSS and this issue in Visual Studio is driving me mad! I have a background image defined within a simple style sheet... body { background-image: url(Images\Greenhouse.jpg); background-position: center; } My style sheet is referenced within the HTML code... <head runat="server"> <title></title> <link rel="Stylesheet" type="text/css" href="Stylesheet.css"/> </head> The background image shows in design view but in the browser, nothing! I've tried changing position etc and refreshed the browser, cleared the cache etc. This happens with all my images. Images are within the project folder (\Images) and added to the solution explorer in VS. Tried "", changing image file names etc, nothing is working!

  I'm drawing an Image on the canvas using the drawImage function. This is how Im setting the src property of the image: var img = new Image(); // Create new Image object img.src = 'test.php?filename=myfile.jpg' and then oCanvas.width = 600; oCanvas.height = 400; oContext.drawImage(img, 0, 0, 600, 400); The problem is that if the src isn't set then I get the foll error:"uncaught exception: [Exception... "Component returned failure code: 0x80040111 (NS_ERROR_NOT_AVAILABLE) [nsIDOMCanvasRenderingContext2D.drawImage]" . I know I get this error coz the image hasnt finished loading. I added an alert just before the call to drawImage function to let the image finish loading and it seems to work. But it's a pain in the neck. How do I check if the image has finished loading? BTW I have to set the src property by calling a php file.

• Image display permissions in PHP/Apache

  I have a PHP site with a login system, and am trying to make a feature where only specific usernames can view particular images. I think what I'm trying to do is more involved than merely changing the .htaccess file, because a) this won't help discern between users that are/aren't allowed to view the image, and b) if someone enters the exact URL of the image ("directory/images/photos/230ru0q0238rn230nd_asdi0nqn8.jpg") they can still view the image (since it's a physical file in the directory, and not text in a DB, etc.). Again, restricting via .htaccess would restrict the directory as a whole, or all files in it, so I can't figure out how it would work. Ideally, all images would be blocked by trying to access them directly through their direct URL, and the image would only appear between <img> tags if the user's session/username is valid, else they get an error message. I've heard the term ACL but I'm not sure this is related to what I'm trying to do.

  Hi, I am using valgrind callgrind to profile a program on gtk. And then I use kcachedgrind to read the result. I have captured an update a screenshot of kcachedgrind here: http://i41.tinypic.com/168spk0.jpg. It said the function gtk_moz_embed_new() costed '15.61%'. But I dont understand how is that possible. the function gtk_moz_embed_new() literally has 1 line: and it is just calling a g_object_new(). • How to override browser default download behavior for files?

  Lots of times we have to download files from the net. In IE we get to see the ugly download progress bar. In firefox we get to see a pop-up window opening etc. However, I have never seen this being over ridden in any manner. Until recently on the site *thesixtyone DOT com* If we get to download a song free and click on the ok link to start the download we get a pop up to select location in the default style of windows.   In our project files, if there are binary files, such as .doc, .xls, .jpg, and we choose to not keep their past revisions (just keeping a latest version is ok), is there a way to tell SVN, Git, or Mercurial or some other tool to skip the revisions for these files or for a particular folder? Say, there is a 4MB .doc file that I need to check in hundred of times, but I don't really care so much about its past versions. So if the system keeps 100 revisions of it, that's already 400MB... checking in 300 times means 1.2GB for 1 file and that's not good. Only the latest version is good so that everybody can sync to it.
