• Site to site VPN using RRAS from an untrusted network?

  Our remote office will be moving to a new space where internet will be provided. They'll be behind a router doing NAT (I do not have admin rights to this router). They will be sharing a printer with the other people on the LAN, but will need VPN to our network for email and file shares. I was thinking of just having them run the windows VPN client and connecting via PPTP like they do when they are off-site, but I have read that multiple PPTP connections from the same NAT'd address to the same destination doesn't work well or at all. I am thinking some kind of site-to-site VPN is needed so there is just one tunnel. Can I just put in a VPN gateway, set it to connect to our RRAS/PPTP server, and have them use it as their default gateway? Perhaps even use the local default gateway for internet traffic. If so, what VPN gateway/device is recommended for this? Or other solutions? Thanks.

• Dual WAN port on a WRT54GL

  Is it possible to reconfigure one of the LAN ports on a WRT54GL (running Tomato firmware) to act as a second WAN port? I have the following networks: PPOE connection to ADSL modem (works fine on the normal WAN port) WiFi neighbourhood network (in 178.X.X.X range), via a Mikrotik routerboard which I'd like to put on the WAN side of the router. I'd then like to set up routing so than some traffic (172.X.X.X) is routed to the Mikrotik and the rest to the ADSL modem. p.s. for practical reasons, I can't use the Mikrotik as the firewall/router. Edit: It seems this can be done by editing iptables, can someone tell me exactly how?

• Metro Apps on Win 8 aren't working with static ip behind auth proxy

  In Windows 8 Professional, Metro Apps and Windows Update do not work on static IP settings behind authenticated proxy server. They work on DHCP on the same proxy settings. (We have DHCP for wifi and static IP for LAN, both using the same proxy server). IE, Chrome and other desktop apps work nicely on both. Metro apps worked on an auth proxy (DHCP only), when I changed their proxy settings from the 'edit group policy' option. (StartSettingsEdit Group PolicyComputer ConfigurationAdministrative TemplatesNetwork IsolationInternet Proxy for Apps) Can this be fixed?

Now we have established a domain controller. Every user has got a domain account. How to include file server into domain so that the permissions would transfer from local accounts to domain accounts? Is it possible to automate this process somehow?

• Not working WEP key in Ubuntu

  This time I've got some problem with connection to the internet from my old laptop with ubuntu, I already had some problems with setting up the radio on my network card but I think it works now since it finds some wireless networks. The problem is that I can't connect to my router via wi-fi even if I'm hundred-percently sure the wepkey I punch there is correct, it works via LAN though. Also, I'm not able to ping myself with 127.0.0.1. I'm sorry to say it but I don't think I can stand this shitness for much longer. Although it's much much faster than Windows it's useless since i can't download any libraries for development. If anyone has any experience with this, even indirect, please leave your answer or comment thx

• Outlook Search starting date

  I am having a problem with Outlook 2003 search on 2 desktops - 1 XP, 1 Windows 7. They are both connected to the same exchange 2007 server. There are several other users connected to the same server, inside the lan and outside using RPC none of whom are having this issue. When the user searches Outlook, search starts from the date Outlook OST file was created and then searches more recent items. The result is that if user is searching for some phrase, e.g. "Blade" in their inbox folder, search results from months ago are returned first then the more recent results. If i delete the OST file and restart Outlook it rebuilds a new one, and resynchronizes normally, then search works normally again, however approximately 6 weeks later the problem will start again (see second paragraph). Anyone experience this ? Any Suggestions ?

• Why is my eth0 getting a dynamic ip when it is configured to be static?

  For some reason our office linux box is being assigned an ip address via dhcp and I don't know why. What is confusing to me is that when I check system-config-network it shows that my eth0 is setup to be a static ip address. And /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0 also shows it is setup to be a static ip, yet it is getting a different ip address than the one specified in the ifcfg-eth0. Let me know if you have any suggestions on or ideas on where I can look next. Here are a few details that might help you figure out what an idiot I am :) Fedora 11 Router in front of this box is running dhcp, starting at 10.42.1.100 This box is configured to be 10.42.1.50 (at least I think it is!), subnet 255.255.255.0 (which is same as the router's lan subnet) Instead of having the static IP, this box is getting assigned 10.42.1.100. Here are the ifcfg-eth0 details DEVICE=eth0 BOOTPROTO=none ONBOOT=yes TYPE=Ethernet USERCTL=no NM_CONTROLLED=no NETMASK=255.255.255.0 IPADDR=10.42.1.50 GATEWAY=10.42.1.1

  What are the options for backup software for: HOST - Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise with HyperV VIRTUAL - Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise with Exchange 2010 VIRTUAL - Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise with SQL Express / SharePoint VIRTUAL - Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise with Terminal Services (10 users working on it) VIRTUAL - Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise with AD/DNS What I'm looking at is possibility of having an offsite backup thru FTP, maybe copy to usb/esata/lan drives for easy taking backup data outside of company. What I've been looking at: - Symantec Exec Backup 2010 System Recovery has an offsite backup but I would need 5 licenses and it doesn't have granular recovery. - Symantec Exec Backup 2010 seems OK but a bit expensive - Microsoft DPM 2010 requires full SQL Standard and for each machine I would need 4 Enterprise licenses. But does it allow Offsite backup without need for additional license and server outside of company (for doing DPM backup of DPM). What other options? This is 10 people company and so the costs matter but also convenience and security. Offsite backup is requirement.

• unable to access shared drives n win7

  OK, this is doing my head in. Not your usual Win7 sharing problem. Just built a win 7 comp to go onto my home lan and be accessed by all on the network, mostly running XP SP3. Installed it as a single HD+DVD system, got it happy, then added my storage drives, set them up in the right order and letters, rebooted, and shared them. Couldn't access the computer at all from any XP machine. Set the pasword thingy in win7 to NO, and now I can "see" all four shared drives from any machine, but can access only two of them. Please tell me whats going on as I've done nothing different from one drive to the other, just installed and set up drive letters as normal, then shared the damn things. The odd thing about it? the two 1.5T drives that have a lot of data on board are accessable, the two nearly empty 500G ones are not. ANY ideas? Cheers, Colin

File Zilla asks for a Host name, Username, password to connect to the remote server. Now all I want is my users in LAN should be able to access this directory from their system using FTP software like FileZilla. • Can a Windows 2003 Active Directory server act as a NTP server?

  Within our LAN, there are two Windows 2003 servers with the Active Directory role. Both these servers have the time service configured to query NTP servers on the internet for the accurate time. That works fine. I've just installed XenServer v5.6 and it's asked me for the IP address of an NTP server. Without tweaking the firewall, I cannot configure this server to reference an internet based NTP server. But can I configure it to use the IP address of the internal AD servers, i.e. do AD servers also act as NTP servers to other computers? Thanks, Rob.

For the most part, the IMAP functionality works beautifully, but I'd like to add one feature if I can: I want Dovecot not to serve large messages to high-latency clients. That is to say, if someone decides that it's a good idea to send me a 9.3mb email to me, I don't want to get it unless I'm on my LAN at home. This can't be an uncommon request, but I'm having trouble finding the configuration option in their documentation. Any ideas and/or good keywords to use in Googling would be awesome.

• Get OWA and ActiveSync working on server using HTTP redirect in IIS 7

  We have two servers on our LAN. One is a Windows 2003 Server domain controller running Exchange 2003. The other is a stand-alone Windows 2008 server running IIS 7. Our company website runs on the IIS 7 (2008) server, so the firewall forwards port 80 to this. How can I get OWA and ActiveSync to work with this setup? And without using SSL. I have tried setting up a website on the IIS 7 box (mail.ourdomain.com) and using HTTP redirect to point to http://mailserver/exchange, but this doesn't work. Do we have to purchase an SSL certificate for this to work?

However, generally I have observed that Windows try to use only one ( mostly faster one/ Or Wired by preference - I am not sure). Is there a way I can take advantage of having both ? • Get source and destination of outbound traffic in pfSense

  I'm looking at the traffic graph in pfSense (Version 1.2.2), which we're using as a router / NAT / ect on our network. Recently, I'm seeing a sudden, constant spike of 15 - 30kbps traffic outbound, that is unusual for our network (normally its below 2kbps, we're mostly all inbound traffic) Is there any way to determine what the source of this traffic is, or where it's going? (Just an internal IP address for source, and external IP address for destination would be all I need) I've already tried switching the traffic graph to 'LAN' and watching the host list on the right side, but it seems ... flakey. The numbers it shows seem to fade in and out at random, and the values never add up to anywhere near the graph values. Currently I am already using DRBD resource on two different machines on Primary/Secondary mode. In case the primary fails I manually promote the secondary to Primary and start the VM. I also explored Gluster and looks good, however, I would rather prefer clustering over Gluster (user space FS). So if anyone has idea which one would be better from ease of use prospective please I would be interested in. Moreover, sheepdog project appears good, however, could not find much documentations/Howtos. I am using Centos 6.

  I've got 2 pcs setup with WLAN - however when I copy files between the machines it takes forever (obviously, since I run 801.11g). So I thought, why not just connect them directly with a cable (my wireless router is the other end of the house, that's why I don't use cables to that) However how should I configure the LAN connection on each machine, so I can use it for transferring files between them, whilst using my WLAN to access the Internet ? I was thinking about letting one machine be gateway, but then Windows pops up with a lot of warnings (basically it says this won't work when you're using two disjoint networks) And now I'm at a loss as to what to try.

• My wifi internet router connection resets when more devices connected

  The wifi internet router is connected directly to Internet cable. The main Pc is attached to it via LAN cable, while 1 laptop and 3 mobile phones connect to it via wifi. Whenever 2 or more devices connect via wifi, the internet connection breaks after one minute and internet connection resets. I tracked this behaviour for weeks, and came to conclusion: It seems like some 'device 1' got IP then it went to suspend mode. Then 'device 2' connected to router and got the same IP. Then the 'device 1' woke up from suspend mode and tried to use his old IP. The router sees that 2 same IP addresses exists and automatically reset internet connection. Is this possible? Have I tracked the problem correctly and how to solve it? The router is set to lease 100 IP addresses to devices who try to connect. The password is strong and no hacker's device is being connected to my wifi network. Tried changing password and AP's name.

  I installed xampp back around January 2009, and CF8 to test coldfusion on my macbook (note: I do not think that this issue is related to CF, but only xampp). I only ever used the apache part of xampp, and this was working for over a year. In the last couple of months at the most I've started getting the following error message (even for none CF sites, and non .cfm pages, the error occurs for .html files..): Access forbidden! • CheckPoint VPN-1 SecureClient inability to navigate behind a Linksys WAG300N

  I have a Linksys WAG300N, I'm accessing my LAN with Wifi and everything works fine on my Windows 7 Enterprise laptop. When I try to connect to my company's VPN the connection succeeds, but I cannot access any internet site either within my work network or public site like Yahoo or Google. In my Linksys control panel I already verified all types of VPNs are enable to passthrough. Normal IPSec and Windows VPN worked in the past without any problems. CheckPoint seems to have a solution, but I do not have the ability to change the IP in my client and of course using another NAT device in between is not a solution for me. • Heartbeat won't start up from a cold boot when a failed node is present

  I currently have two ubuntu servers running Heartbeat and DRBD. Let's say one node is down... The servers are directory connected with a 1000Mbps cross over cable on eth1 and have access to a IP camera LAN on eth0 The node that is still functioning won't start up heartbeat and provide access to the drbd resource. I have to manually restart heartbeat by "sudo service heartbeat restart" to get everything up and running. How can I get it to start fine from a cold start?   I have VPN access using OpenVPN and try to create a safe machine that does not leak traffic over non-VPN interfaces. Using the firewall UFW I try to achieve the following: Allow Access from LAN to the machine's web-interface Otherwise only allow Traffic on tun0 (OpenVPN-Tunnel interface when established) Reject (or forward?) any traffic over other interfaces Currently I am using the following rules (sudo ufw status): To Action From -- ------ ---- 192.168.42.11 9999/tcp ALLOW Anywhere # allow web-interface Anywhere on tun0 ALLOW Anywhere # out only thru tun0 Anywhere ALLOW OUT Anywhere on tun0 # in only thru tun0 My problem is that the machine is initially not able to establish the OpenVPN-connection since only tun0 is allowed, which is not yet established (chicken-egg-problem) How do I allow creating the OpenVPN connection and from this point onward force every single packet to go thru the VPN-tunnel?

• OpenWrt Backfire 10.03 Frequently Becoming Unresponsive (Bridged Client)

  I have a Linksys WRT54G version 2 that I've flashed with OpenWrt Backfire 10.03. It's acting as a bridged client using the wl.o driver to give me network access in my home office, which is in a far corner of my house in a position that would make it exceedingly difficult to fish network cabling in through the walls. I have three network-ready devices attached to the device that don't currently support WiFi, including a networked printer. Ever since I migrated from WhiteRussian, which was also set up as a bridged client, to Backfire, the device has been becoming unresponsive, as though the OS itself has crashed or frozen. The WLAN light becomes completely solid and the LAN lights stay mostly solid, blipping off and then back on again maybe once a second or so. They all blink more or less in unison. Is there some way I can diagnose why this is happening so I can fix it? Right now, the only way to fix it is to unplug the device and plug it back in.

• How to achieve reliable Gigabit Ethernet Link with my Acer Aspire Revo R3610?

  I want to stream HD movies over my wired Gigabit LAN from my PC to my Acer Aspire Revo R3610. It's connected with a 3ft Cat5e patch cable to my Netgear GS605v2 Switch. The PC acting as File Server is connected at 1Gbps to the Switch. Network driver options are set to defaults, including automatic speed/duplex negotiation on both machines. The Revo will not connect to my Network Switch at 1Gbps - the OS reports that it reverts to 100Mbps either shortly after connection or immediately upon connection. Through a process of elimination (trying different drivers, patch cables, ports on the switch, and other 1Gbps-capable devices connected to the Network switch which successfully achieve 1Gbps links and performance) I have drawn the conclusion there is either a Hardware or Software (Driver) issue with the Revo itself. I have performed tests using Windows 7 and Ubuntu 9.10. Can anyone offer insight on Gigabit Ethernet with the Revo?
