• How to block this URL pattern in Varnish VCL?

  My website is getting badly hit by spambots and scrappers, I am using Cloudflare but the problem still remains there. The problem is spambots accessing non-existing urls causing a lot of load to my drupal backend which goes all the way and bootstraps db just to serve a 404 error doc. I cant simply dish out non-drupal 404's for all page not found errors, as I need to have drupal catch them. Since, varnish is in front it can check if the bot is acting nice and asking for valid url - if not it servers them a 404 or 403. These bots are causing errors using this pattern : http://www.megaleecher.net/http:/www.megaleecher.net/Using_iPhone_As_USB_Mass_S/Using_iPhone_As_USB_Mass_S/Using_iPhone_As_USB_Mass_S/Using_iPhone_As_USB_Mass_S/Using_iPhone_As_USB_Mass_S/Using_iPhone_As_USB_Mass_S/Using_iPhone_As_USB_Mass_S/Using_iPhone_As_USB_Mass_Storage Now, pls. suggest a regex varnbisg VCL directive which catches this URL pattern and serves a 404 error from varnish, preventing it from reaching apache/drupal ?

• Enabled boot logging option in Win XP doesn't produce ntbtlog.txt file

  I have tried enabling the boot logging option for Windows XP Pro using the F8 and also boot.ini method, but it does not seem to be creating the expected ntbtlog.txt file. I'm doing this to help me solve a problem where the Avast antivirus service is not starting up - it keeps complaining with the message: "Error 1068: The dependency service or group failed to start". I seem to notice that the file is produced on a system where the Avast antivirus is starting up without any problems. Can anybody suggest why the ntbtlog.txt file is not being created?

• mod hosts file, connect to joomla on remote server

  I've just acquired an account on a remote server with Joomla installed. I was instructed to add xxx.xx.xxx.xx name.ca www.name.ca to the hosts file which I found in /private/etc/ . I had to su to my admin account and use sudo to mod file and found that hosts is also found in /etc/ though it is apparently the same file. I attempted to flush the the DNS cache using dscacheutil -flushcache and then launched Safari and entered address xxx.xx.xxx.xx/administrator but got a 404 error. Joomla was set up for me by the server owner and accessed from his Windows laptop to demonstrate so I know it should work but no go here. Can anyone suggest what the problem might be?

  I use Ubuntu 12.04 64 bit. At first I installed pgAdmin through Software Center. But it seemed old. So, I decided to uninstal it. Then I downloaded graphic installer for PostgresQL. sudo ./postgresql-9.2.1-1-linux-x64.run I was warned that a previous version of pgAdmin is found, it will be upgraded but I'll have to restart the server. Well, installation process worked. Then I turned out in terminal again. I restarted the server /etc/init.d$ sudo ./postgresql-9.2 restart /opt/PostgreSQL/9.2/pgAdmin3/bin$ ./pgadmin3 The answer is: The program 'pgadmin3' is currently not installed. So, I can't find my pgAdmin to launch it. Could you suggest me anything?

• check_postgres_checkpoint plugin error

  I am using the check_postgres.pl plugin for Nagios. I am trying to monitor how long since the last checkpoint has been run using the check_postgres_checkpoint option. When I run the command from CLI as root I am getting the output but I am not able to get the output in the Nagios web interface. The error which it shows is, ERROR: pg_controldata could not read the given data directory: "/opt/PostgreSQL/9.1/data" It is trying to access the pg_control file in the 'global' directory present beneath the data directory which has only read access to the postgres user. Can anyone please suggest me how this can be resolved ? Thanks.

• Browser keeps being really rude to me today

  Hi All I've had this problem only once before, years ago. I bought a new computer the other day and last night I visited a website which Google Chrome suspected was an insecure site. So I proceeded to view the page anyway (Stupid, I know... But I was curious), and all of a sudden the window closed and ever since, every few minutes either Google chrome or Internet Explorer keeps popping up with random websites, most of which are porn-related sites. I have downloaded ZoneAlarm, IOBit 360, Eset Smart Security and none of them reported any problems. I still have the rube browser problem. Can somebody please suggest any software/ways to fix this? (Other than to reformat please :)) Thank you :)

  Hello Guys, I have installed Ubuntu9.10 on VM VirtualBox, on my HP laptop. My laptop has several USB ports and also a SD card port. Unfortunately, I'm unable to access both, my pen-drive on the USB port and my 8GB SD card inserted in the SD Card port. Can anyone suggest me what I should do for my Ubuntu to detect both of them? • Ubuntu 12.04: Unable to add or delete a user named 'mysql'

  I am trying to install MySql on Ubuntu 12.04 but the installation is failing with the error: "Can't change to run as user 'mysql'. Check if the user 'mysql' exits." So I go ahead type in the command : 'cat /etc/passwd | grep mysql' and result is null. I try to add a user 'mysql' by issuing the command 'useradd mysql'/. But it fails with the message: 'useradd: user 'mysql' already exists'. When I try to delete the user 'mysql' using the command 'userdel mysql' it also fails with the message "userdel: cannot remove entry 'mysql' from /etc/passwd." Can anyone explain me what's going on and suggest a solution.

I want to download emails from "ALLMAIL" mailbox folder. as you know ALLMAIL folder consists of Inbox,Sent Mail and Draft Mails. Here my requirement is to distinguish Draft from Inbox and Sent mails. • Stopping/Starting windows services

  I have four windows services which start up automatically when the machine starts. There after, I want to restart those services every 8 hours in a particular order. For eg. Stop s1,s2,s3,s4 and than restart them in some other order like s4,s3,s2,s1. The condition is that I should wait for each service to stop completely before I stop another one. I would want to write a .BAT or some script. Is it possible to define a CRON for 8 hours, this is not there in Advanced tasks ? Can I do it using windows scheduler ?   Before I pose my question, I will give some insight as per my scenario: I work for a small business (cost is an important factor) Our bandwidth is limited and would not support an in-house FTP server We need to share files (mostly pdf, inDesign, Illustrator documents) to our clients, and as we expand, we are finding that our current locally-hosted FTP solution is too slow and is becoming a detriment to our sales team. What we need is a remotely hosted solution to share files with our clients, specifically with the following features: Greater than 100gb of secure storage The Ability to distribute unique log in credentials to clients, granting access to a personalized directory or folder, while limiting access to other files on the server. A relatively simple web-based UI for clients with limited computer knowledge We have considered a dedicated remote server, and web-based services (box.net, yousendit.com, onehub.com, filesanywhere.com) but I am unsure as per the direction we should be taking - have I left another solution out?   I m learning about server, and I'm configuring nginx mysql php wordpress. the server distro is debian 6. I created a new user and I wish each user is the owner of the site folder /var/www/site.one so I chown -R kossel:kossel site.one my problem is, my wordpress only work if I chmod 644 wp-config.php, which all can read wordpress site suggest that file should be 640. and my question is: when someone open mydomain.com, wordpress has to access wp-config.php file, but which user is it actually using to "read" that file? root? user kossel? anyone else? how can I properly give it permission or owner??

• How to use ccache selectively?

  I have to compile multiple versions of an app written in C++ and I think to use ccache for speeding up the process. ccache howtos have examples which suggest to create symlinks named gcc, g++ etc and make sure they appear in PATH before the original gcc binaries, so ccache is used instead. So far so good, but I'd like to use ccache only when compiling this particular app, not always. Of course, I can write a shell script that will try to create these symlinks every time I want to compile the app and will delete them when the app is compiled. But this looks like filesystem abuse to me. Are there better ways to use ccache selectively, not always? For compilation of a single source code file, I could just manually call ccache instead of gcc and be done, but I have to deal with a complex app that uses an automated build system for multiple source code files.

  I have network IPP working on Ubuntu and Windows XP. On my Windows 7 instance, it refuses to acknowledge the remote server connection. Can anyone suggest how to configure this correctly? My install steps are: Add Printer Add a Local Printer Create a New Port and "Standard TCP/IP Port" Enter hostname http://host:631/printers/Printer_Name After that it says the printer is not detected, asks me to pick a driver, and finish up.   I have a hierarchical structure in a database driven software application. Each row in parentTable 'owns' a number of rows in childTable. If the childTable does not have a value set in columnA then it should return the value specified in the appropriate row of parentTable columnB. Is it possible to implement a pointer or cell reference somehow so that I do not have to copy values from parent to child. (A change in parent could result in a large number of changes in child). If this is not possible, could anyone suggest a different approach?

• How to revert to "last known good configuration"

  Hi Guys. I failed to install ubuntu 10.04 with WUBI, for some reason it's showing me the root partion is not defined. I'm bored to fight with it so I just removed ubuntu in windows. However this installation made my original Windows XP cripple, a normal boot will end up with a blue screen, error code 7E, I'm still able to boot with the 'last known good configuration' tho. My understanding is booting like this will recover things and I'm supposed to be good when reboot, while this is not the case for me, I have to choose the 'boot from last known good configuration' each and every time to work around the blue screen. Could you suggest how could I resolve this? I feel it's foolish having to waste 10 more seconds each time starting the OS.

  I have a small business server 2008 and have a directory named LAWFILES. I have a 6 digit file system (eg 106568) and I create a directory to store anything to do with the file (documents, outlook emails, PDFs, WAV files, ect.) I group 100 files in a 4 digit directory (eg 1065) for quicker access. My new years resolution is to organize these directories. I used to have a script the batch created directories and sub directories but it didn't work the last time I tried it (2 years ago). I would like to run a batch file that would ask for the 4 digit directory name (eg 1065) and then create that directory and 100 subdirectories (106500 - 106599) each of which contained subdirectories named "Documents," "Correspondence" & "Email-Voicemail" Can anyone suggest where I would go to find a scripting language that would be available to accomplish this? • The application Finder can't be opened. -10810

  Hi Guys, I am getting an error as shown in the screenshot. This started happening after I updated my Mac OS X from 10.6.5 to 10.6.6. Problem is that Finder stops working 5 mins after the restart and all the other aplications including Xcode 3.2.5, iPhone simulator, safari,etc stops working. Everytime I have to restart the Mac as all the things hang. What could be wrong? What could be a permanent fix for this? Please Help and Suggest Thanks
