• Share application in local network

  I would like to eventually create a managerial program that shares and updates information for multiple computers that are on the same network. I am fairly familiar with Python, C++ and a bit of Java, is there a library I could use with any of these languages to design such a program? I could probably create the local interface from where I am right now, but when it comes to packing and sharing data I could not be more clueless; any advice would be platinum. The program will need to differentiate between administrative and user access if that makes a difference.

• Using WFC authentication service for web application

  I am using a WFC authentication service I set up with a web application. I have successfully set up and tested the AuthenticationService and RolesService. The web application can successfully call methods like ValidateUser and GetRolesForCurrentUser through the WFC services. I want to integrate the WFC authentication service with my web.config and site.map. Do I need to write a custom provider, or is there some way I can modify the web.config of the web application to use the WFC authentication service as its membership provider? This way I can set what roles have access to what directories based off the WFC authentication service.

  Ok I'm a newbie at Android programming, have a hard time with the graphics part. Understand the beauty of creating layout in XML file, but lost how to access various elements, especially a View element to draw on it. Catching button events and responding to, for example changing title bar text and changing View background color works fine, but how the heck do I access and more importantly draw on the view defined in main.xml UPDATE: That for your suggestion, however besides that I need a View, not ImageView and you are missing a parameter on canvas.drawText and an ending bracket, it does not work. Now this is most likely because you missed the fact that I am a newbie and assuming I can fill in any blanks. I hope somebody can break this down for me and provide a solution, and perhaps explain why I can't just create a View element in my main.xml layotu file and draw on it in code.

• Why doesn't WebBBS work now that I've migrated to a new server?

  Hello, I've moved a WebBBS board from one server to another. Ever since the board doesn't work. I'm getting an Apache error whenever I try to access the board. Don't even know where to start the debugging, I'm not a Perl person. The file paths remained the same and there isn't any DB involved. http://gammonline.com/members/board/ Any ideas? After a bit of testing I believe that the problem has something to do with the index.cgi which is located in that folder (not getting the error when renaming it). Thanks, Roy.

• Team Foundation Error: The request ID is incorrect or not recognized

  Hello everybody. I'm trying to connect to the Team Foundation Server's ClientService.asmx web services. Over here, the TFS has webservices for retrieving work items, queries, metadata and more...a quite complete and useful set of information to get. My problem is that trying to access these services leads to an error: TF51313: The request ID is incorrect or not recognized I assume it has something to do with the RequestHeader Id structure. I give it a GUID inside the code I'm working on, but I don't know how correct it is...or what value it should have to begin with. Note: I can't use the TFS API/SDK because I am building a mobile application. Also an application on the TFS server side to communicate with the API and expose web services is not an option. Thanks.

• Understanding NSHTTPCookieStorage for the iPhone

  Maybe I'm missing something, but from Apple's documentation for NSHTTPCookieStorage, I can't help but wonder how this is safe to use. Does this mean that cookie storage is shared across all apps on the iPhone? If my app makes an Http call that results in some cookies being saved, do all apps now have access to these cookies? Methods like: cookiesForURL: Returns all the receiver's cookies that will be sent to a specified URL. make it look even more suspicious. Can someone explain how this is OK, and what the class does? Also, assuming my understanding is flawed and this is indeed sandboxed per-app, do calls made using NSURLRequest automatically save/retrieve cookies from this store or is it the developers responsibility to set request headers before dispatching the request?

• NSNumberFormatter crashing iPhone SDK 4.0b2

  Hey there, I've got an app that's been in the app store for a while and functions perfectly on OS 3.1 - 3.13. However, when tested on 4.0b2 I noticed that it crashes in the same place every time, but only on the device, never on the simulator. I'm using a 3GS to test. On loadView I initialize an NSNumberFormatter object which is declared and retained in the interface so I have access to it everywhere. In my method I call it several times to convert string values into nsnumbers to be stored in a mutable dictionary. Here's an example: [myDictionary setObject:[myStyleFormatter numberFromString:@"1"] forKey:@"hours"]; [myDictionary setObject:[myStyleFormatter numberFromString:@"30"] forKey:@"minutes"]; [myDictionary setObject:[myStyleFormatter numberFromString:@"10"] forKey:@"seconds"]; For some reason it crashes as soon as it tries to set hours. The error is "attempt to insert nil value (key: hours)" Have I been doing something wrong all along? Has the api changed for 4.0b2? Thanks, Howie

  I know there are a lot of these topics around but none seem to help in my case, nor describe it exactly. The best similar one is aapt not found under the right path. My problem is that I can be using Eclipse for a whole evening programming, compiling and using my device, and then suddenly I get "error executing aapt" for my current project and ofcourse R.java isn't (properly) generated anymore. I then restart Eclipse and everything goes away. I'm seeing this once a day on average however. I've recently switched to amd64 and installed the latest Android-2.3 SDK and matching tools. I know that there is now a platform-tools folder that has an aapt version that should work SDK version independently. At first I had added this directory to my PATH, as instructed on the SDK website. I've also tried not adding it to my path and making a link platforms/android-9/tools so that every SDK version might use it's own old copy. Needless to say, platform-tools/aapt is there and has the right permissions, and I have been able to execute it on the command-line at any time. When I do write a faulty xml file or sorts, and appropriately get an error, I see an extra line that says "aapt: /lib32/libz.so.1: no version information available". I'm running a recent Gentoo linux system. I have everything installed to support x86 on amd64, but have re-emerged emul-linux-x86-baselibs and zlib just to be sure. The problem persists. I do see some pages that spell horror over some zlib bugs, but I'm not sure if that's related. I realize I'm not on the reference Ubuntu platform, but surely the difference cannot be that great? It might very well be a bug in aapt or the tools itself. Why would it suddenly stop working? I also experience that the ids in R.java were incorrect, namely that simple findViewById() code would give ClassCastExceptions because of mixed ids the one time, and then work perfectly without any changes bu only a "clean project", in the aftermath of a failing aapt. When I recently was trying to export a signed apk, I ran into another error message (full details from the Eclipse error view) regarding aapt I hadn't seen before. Note here too, that I can just restart Eclipse and can export apks again without problems, at least for a little while. I'm starting to think it is related to lack of memory on my system. The message "onvoldoende geheugen beschikbaar" means "insufficient memory available". I have also been seeing insufficient memory errors in DDMS when I'm dumping HPROF files.   Hi, I'm getting a "java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: javax.ejb.EJBObject" error when I'm running my application as a JAR file. When running it in Eclipse everything is working fine. The application properly access the main class and the main method. But when it tries to load the application context it cannot resolve a reference to an EJB bean. I then get the following error: Error creating bean with name 'bc' defined in class path resource [blabla.xml]: Initialization of bean failed; nested exception is java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: javax/ejb/EJBObject at org.springframework.beans.factory.support.BeanDefinitionValueResolver .resolveReference(BeanDefinitionValueResolver.java:275) ... Caused by: java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: javax.ejb.EJBObject I've included all runtime-scoped dependencies with Maven in the JAR file. Do you know any further information regarding this error?

• Where is my SQLite database?

  I have installed SQLite version 3 into a non-standard location on my dreamhost user account. I compiled it and installed it just fine, and it works with $db=new SQLiteDatabase("db.foont"); I can create tables and insert and read data with the SQLiteDatabase object just fine. However, I want to use PDO. My problem is that PDO requires an absolute path to the database specified in the connection. e.g., 'sqlite:/path/to/db.sq3' a) this is dumb - if the other object can figure out where the db is without an absolute path why can't PDO's sqlite driver - but that's not my question. b) where the heck is my database being stored? I can't find it anywhere in my user filesystem, and I'm pretty sure I don't have access to anything else.

  I know that there are other questions similar to this one, however the following question pertains to arbitrary-precision random number generation in C for use in Monte Carlo simulation. How can we generate good quality arbitrary-precision random numbers in C, when atmospheric noise isn't always available, without relying on disk i/o or network access that would create bottlenecks? libgmp is capable of generating random numbers, but, like other implementations of pseudo-random number generators, it requires a seed. As the manual mentions, "the system time is quite easy to guess, so if unpredictability is required then it should definitely not be the only source for the seed value." Is there a portable/ported library for generating random numbers, or seeds for random numbers? The libgmp also mentions that "On some systems there's a special device /dev/random which provides random data better suited for use as a seed." However, /dev/random and /dev/urandom can only be used on *nix systems.

  I've been tasked with writing a new webapp in javaEE, which will be a first for me. I'm familar with the java language, but all of my previous projects have been in .net. So I've downloaded netbeans and I'll probably be using Hibernate, and started digging in. My question is, what's the best way to lay out a javaEE app? Should all data access go through netbeans? I was told to use webservices as much as possible so it's easy to pull data in and out of the system, and I've read through tutorials that create webservices in a seperate web application, as compared to the javaEE enterprise application. Is that really the way it's supposed to work? Just trying to wrap my head around this as compared to what I'm used to in .net. Thanks!

  I have issue with userlocation in mkmapview. The thing is that i have navigation controller which pushes mapview , as soon as it pushes it userlocation is queried. But if user pop mapview view before userlocation animation is finished , it throws exception because animation is trying to access deallocated mapview instance. So my question is , how to prevent that. I could do it by disabling back button , but i am not sure if that right way to take. Does anybody know how to stop current animation?

  Hi, I found several solutions for creating Flash LSOs from JavaScript (for example: http://www.nuff-respec.com/technology/cross-browser-cookies-with-flash ) If Page (www.hostA.com/index.html) and the .swf file are from the same site, everything works fine. No I'm trying to load the page form www.hostA.com/index.html, which includes www.hostB.com/flashcookie.swf (different sites). But then I cannot read or store the LSO. I have tried several configurations (crossdomain.xml, Security.allowDomain("...") ), but nothing works. Is this kind of cross domain access to a LSO possible? Thanks -stephan

It was suggested in WHB forum that this was possible with sSMTP.   I cannot checkout working copy if I use proxy server. SVN starting to checkout files but, checkout several files but then stops and shows following error: svn: Delta source ended unexpectedly I can checkout working copy if I work without proxy server. But I constantly have problems if I work via proxy. Is this problem with proxy server or with svn? UPDATED: I tried to access other svn repositories located on different servers via proxy and it seems to me that I have problem only with one svn server. Other svn servers are accessible via proxy server.

• How do I shrink my SQL Server Database?

  I have a Database nearly 1.9Gb Database in size MSDE2000 does not allow DBs that exceed 2.0Gb I need to shrink this DB (and many like it at various client locations) I have found and deleted many 100's of 1000's of records which are considered unneeded. these records account for a large percentage of some of the main (largest) tables in the Database. Therefore it's reasonable to assume much space should now be retrievable. So now I need to shrink the DB to account for the missing records I execute "DBCC ShrinkDatabase('MyDB')"......No effect. I have tried the various shrink facilities provided in MSSMS.... Still no effect. I have backed up the database and restored it... Still no effect. Still 1.9Gb Why? Whatever procedure I eventually find needs to be replayable on a client machine with access to nothing other than OSql or similar.

  Hi guys, this is my first time trying to use document classes in AS3 and im struggling. I am trying to add event listeners to a 2 levels deep movie clip, waiting for a click however i am getting the following error. • Entity LINQ on many-to-many got error "LINQ to Entities does not recognize the method 'Boolean Conta

  I have 2 tables (Users and Roles) they are mapped as Many-to-Many in relational db. When I imported to Entity Data Content, they are still staying as the same relationship. Since they are mapped as Many-To-Many in Entity, I can access Users.RoleCollection or Roles.UserCollection However, when I execute this LINQ query, I got "LINQ to Entities does not recognize the method 'Boolean Contains... method, and this method cannot be translated into a store expression." var result (from a in Users from b in Roles where a.RoleCollection.Contains(b) select a); I think I must did something wrong... please help.
