  I have search strings, similar to the one bellow: energy food "olympics 2010" Terrorism OR "government" OR cups NOT transport and I need to parse it with PHP5 to detect if the content belongs to any of the following clusters: AllWords array AnyWords array NotWords array These are the rules i have set: If it has OR before or after the word or quoted words if belongs to AnyWord. If it has a NOT before word or quoted words it belongs to NotWords If it has 0 or more more spaces before the word or quoted phrase it belongs to AllWords. So the end result should be something similar to: AllWords: (energy, food, "olympics 2010") AnyWords: (terrorism, "government", cups) NotWords: (Transport) What would be a good way to do this?

• Ooutsourcing design/programming (taxes!)

  Hello, I have a full time job, but I also have some ideas in mind -- and I want to outsource some code development and design to Russia. I have friends there who help me to do that -- they'll do the development, provide me invoice (which is just description of our terms, because we decided on flat rate monthly fee), and I need to wire them money. So, I do not have business entity. If I'll pay them, am I am required to pay taxes? Or do I deduct my business expenses (say $30K/year) from my earnings (say $50K/year), and pay taxes only on what's left ($20K to be precise)? Any rules on that? Am I limited with something here? • Add HTMl to CCK within Drupal

  Hello im a newbie at using Drupal, and have come across a block in my progress. I have been using CCK to add new content types to my forms. I was wondering if there was any way to add to the form that is generated so that i may contain the elements and also insert visual html code like head rules etc. I have dabbled with the hook_form_alter() and it does not seem to help me in my efforts. Ive been through adjusting tpl.php files and such and have made no progress. Please if there is any one there in the inter-webs who is knowledgeable on this matter your advice would be greatly appreciated. Here is just an example of what I would want to do within the form: 1. • REST, caching, and authorizing with multiple user roles

  We have a system with multiple different levels of access--sometimes even for the same user as they switch between multiple roles. We're beginning a discussion on moving over to a RESTful implementation of things. I'm just starting to get my feet wet with the whole REST thing. So how do I go about limiting access to the correct records when they access a resource, particularly when taking caching into consideration? If user A access example.com/employees they would receive a different response than user B; user A may even receive a different response as he switches to a different role. To help facilitate caching, should the id of the role be somehow incorporated into the uri? Maybe something like example.com/employees/123 (which violates the rules of REST), or as some sort of subordinate resource like example.com/employees/role/123 (which seems silly, since role/### is going to be appended to URIs all over the place). I can help but think I'm missing something here.

  Hi I need to segment text using fullstops using PHP/Javascript.The problem is if I use "." to split text then abbreviations , date formatting (12.03.2010 ) or urls as well split-ed , which I need to prevent.There are many such possibilities , I might not be able to imagine. How to recognize that the "." is used as fullstop and nothing else ? When I googled I found about SRX http://www.lisa.org/fileadmin/standards/srx20.html , is any opensource PHP project segment text using these rules ? I can do with any Linux based command line utility as well unless it is not paid. Thanks

• YUI Compressor + gzip causes Illegal Character error in jQuery

  When I minify jquery using YUI compressor, it works fine. When I then add gzip compression (and serve this version via mod rewrite), the gzipped version throws this error: illegal character in jquery.min.js on line 1 Line 1 is: ???????M???????????s?8?0???!sz?dKr?=? This results in a "jquery is not defined" error. I am using the following rewrite rules to serve up the gzipped versions: #Check to see if browser can accept gzip files. ReWriteCond %{HTTP:accept-encoding} (gzip.*) #make sure there's no trailing .gz on the url ReWriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !^.+\.gz$ #check to see if a .gz version of the file exists. RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME}.gz -f #All conditions met so add .gz to URL filename (invisibly) RewriteRule ^(.+) $1.gz [L] I can't find any references to this happening to anyone else. Thoughts?

• Should you remove all warnings in your Verilog or VHDL design? Wh or why not?

  In (regular) software I have worked at companies where the gcc option -Wall is used to show all warnings. Then they need to be dealt with. With non-trivial FPGA/ASIC design in Verilog or VHDL there are often many many warnings. Should I worry about all of them? Do you have any specific techniques to suggest? My flow is mainly for FPGAs (Altera and Xilinx in particular), but I assume the same rules would apply to ASIC design, possibly more so due to the inability to change the design after it is built.

  Hi, Apologies if this is an oversight or sheer stupidity on my part but I can't quite figure out how to access the validation array from a callback in a model (using ORM and KO 2.3.4). • Detecting syllables in a word

  I need to find a fairly efficient way to detect syllables in a word. E.g., invisible - in-vi-sib-le There are some syllabification rules that could be used: V CV VC CVC CCV CCCV CVCC *where V is a vowel and C is a consonant. e.g., pronunciation (5 Pro-nun-ci-a-tion; CV-CVC-CV-V-CVC) I've tried few methods, among which were using regex (which helps only if you want to count syllables) or hard coded rule definition (a brute force approach which proves to be very inefficient) and finally using a finite state automata (which did not result with anything useful). The purpose of my application is to create a dictionary of all syllables in a given language. This dictionary will later be used for spell checking applications (using Bayesian classifiers) and text to speech synthesis. I would appreciate if one could give me tips on an alternate way to solve this problem besides my previous approaches. I work in Java, but any tip in C/C++, C#, Python, Perl... would work for me.

• Oracle Application Server 10.1.3.5 Security issue.

  Hello! we are tying to port a J2EE app from OAS 9.0.4 (working perfectly) on OAS 10.1.3.5 the reson we do that is because we need the app compiled with java 1.5 and OAS 10.1.3.5 would be the single major version supporting that binaries which has oc4j/orion kernel. The issue is that the security constraints in matter of user/group/role are not read by the app server, and instead of asking for these sets of users, i have to use the oc4jadmin instead the selected users for auth. All xml files needed for describing these sets of rules are being checked with the OAS book, and it seems they are correctly filled in... anybody has an idea about this?

• GetOleDbSchemaTable Foreign Keys on Sql Server 2005

  I'm trying to get the Foreign Keys for a table in my SQL Server 2005 database. I'm using the GetOleDbSchemaTable function right now: DataTable schemaTable = connection.GetOleDbSchemaTable( OleDbSchemaGuid.Foreign_Keys, new object[] { null, null, null, "TABLE" }); This pulls back the right foreign keys, the only problem is that the UpdateRule and DeleteRule are set to "No Action". If I browse to the same table in SSMS I can see that my DeleteRule is "Set NULL". Does the GetOleDbSchemaTable function not return the proper foreign key rules ? Has any one else ran into this problem ?

  My requirement is I have server J2EE web application and client J2EE web application. Sometimes client can go offline. When client comes online he should be able to synchronize changes to and fro. Also I should be able to control which rows/tables need to be synchronized based on some filters/rules. Is there any existing Java frameworks for doing it? If I need to implement on my own, what are the different strategies that you can suggest? One solution in my mind is maintaining sql logs and executing same statements at other side during synchronization. Do you see any problems with this strategy?

  How would I model a system that needs to be able to provide content in a format that would be consumable by iphone, Android or web browser (or whatever). All a new consumer would have to do is build a UI with rules on how to handle the data. I'm thinking something RESTful returning JSON or something. I'm really looking for suggestions on the kinds of things I'd need to learn in order to be able to implement a system on this scale. • Silverlight - Disabling Item Selection from ListBox

  Hello, I have a ListBox defined in Silverlight. Each item in this ListBox has a CheckBox. Based on some rules when the ListBox is populated, some of the items in the ListBox get selected. This is used just for the sake of highlighting certain rows. When a user clicks an item in the ListBox, I want to check or uncheck the CheckBox in the item. However, I want to leave the item as appeared as selected because of the highlighting. Is there a way to do this? If not, is there a repeater control where I can highlight certain rows but not others when items are loaded? Thank you,

Can it be done in some straightforward way?   I have a little problem that involves modelling a state machine. I have managed to do a little bit of knowledge engineering and 'reverse engineer' a set of primitive deterministic rules that determine state as well as state transitions. I would like to know what the best practises are regarding: How to rigorously test my states and state transitions to make sure that the system cannot end up in an undeetermined state. How to enforce state transition requirements (for example, it should be impossible to go directly from stateFoo to StateFooBar, i.e. to embue each state with 'knowlege' about the states it can transition to. Ideally, I would like to use clean, pattern based design, with templates wherever possible. I do need somewhere to start though and I would be grateful for any pointers (no pun intended), that are sent my way.

• MySQL: Transactions across multiple threads

  Preliminary: I have an application which maintains a thread pool of about 100 threads. Each thread can last about 1-30 seconds before a new task replaces it. When a thread end, that thread almost always will result in inserting 1-3 records into a table, this table is used by all of the threads. Right now, no transactional support exists, but I am trying to add that now. So... Goal I want to implement a transaction for this. The rules for whether or not this transaction commits or rollback reside in the main thread. Basically there is a simple function that will return a boolean. Can I implement a transaction across multiple connections? If not, can multiple threads share the same connection? (Note: there are a LOT of inserts going on here, and that is a requirement).

• How do you balance business process changes against the challenges of changing software?

  In my admittedly young career I've found myself writing code to support quirky business rules and processes. Inevitably these changes were always in some massively difficult code base and caused many issues. My question has a couple of parts: While software is a tool for businesses to make their lives easier, at what point do we as developers suggest a change in business process rather than in the software as the "magic bullet" to solve a particular problem. How do we as developers evangelize a certain level of reverence for the software as well as the difficulty involved in making changes simply to support the quirks of the business? I understand that these changes in business processes promote our industry, but in an analogy my father would understand: Which is easier, to melt down a hammer to forge a screwdriver to drive screws or to simply use nails since your hammer is already awesome...?

• Global variable life in Javascript - destroyed on a reload?

  (I am learning Javascript) Problem: A page I am working on has 2 views, a data entry view with a textbox and a data rendering view. There is a a href src="currentpage#" link that switches between the 2 views. In order to transmit data from view to view, the javascript parses it from the current HTML and pushes it into the correct form for the other view. This is ugly and I want to refactor it out, ideally into some sort of global where it can be neatly rendered down into the view on command (I'm refactoring the code base to a point where I can AJAX it from a server). However, I am not certain about scoping rules and variable life in JS.

  Folks, I am starting work on an iPad/iPhone application that is essentially a form-filing UI. The requirement is to present a (rather large) form to the user. The form is composed of sections and questions, like so: Form Question 0.1 Question 0.2 Section 1 Question 1.1 etc. The user can take various paths down the form based on answers to questions. I would like to architect this by defining a declarative markup that can be used to author the form questionnaire including traversal rules. My questions are: Can anyone recommend a markup/language that would satisfy the declaration requirement? Is there any existing library that would ease the implementation as described above?   In my iPhone app, I'm publishing a bonjour service and using the following delegate method: - (void)netServiceDidPublish:(NSNetService *)ns { NSLog(@"Bonjour Service Published: http://%@.%@", [ns name], [ns domain]); } The "name" property is returning the device name, "How's Testing", which is correct. However, when I use Safari to discover available services the name is "hows-testing" -- the service is http://hows-testing.local.:. Why is the published name different than what is being reported by the NSNetService? How do I display for the actual name of the published service? Assuming that, for some reason, there is no way to get the published name from the object, how do I determine it myself? I understand that it's based on device name, but what are the substitution rules? Remove apostrophes, replace spaces with dash...anything else? What about special characters?

  Hi, I have a configuration file with a lot of data like sensor locations, type, rules for activating devices etc. Basically related to a pervasive system. I plan to design an ontology for this domain. The doubt in my mind is how should I populate the ontology with the information in the configuration file, as the configuration files are going to change every now and then. Earlier I was planning to use XML, so I can just read the configuration file at runtime and create an XML as per the XSD. Do we use the same technique for Ontologies?
