• Java: "Could not find the main class. Program will exit"

  I'm trying to run SQuirreL SQL. I've downloaded it and installed it, but when I try to run it I get this error message: Java Virtual Machine Launcher. Could not find the main class. Program will exit. I get the gist of this, but I have not idea how to fix it. Any help? more info: I'm on Windows XP pro. I have java 1.6 installed, and other apps are running OK. The install ran OK. I believe I've followed the installation instructions correctly. To run it, I'm invoking the squirrel-sql.bat file. • How to save the view count of a question in memory?

  My website is like stackoverflow, there are many questions. I want to record how many times a question has been visited. I have a column called "view_count" in the question table to save it. If a user visits a question many times, the view_count should be increased only 1. So I have to record which user has visited which question, and I think it is too much expensive to save this information in the database because the records will be huge. So, I would like to keep the information in memory and only persist the number to the database every 10 minutes. I have searched about "cache" in Rails, but I haven't found an example. I would like a simple sample of how to do this, thanks for help~

• Has anyone got a simple step by step Mozilla plugin tutorial.

  I'm trying to create a Mozilla browser plugin for the sole purpose of detecting with javascript whether or not an application that I have written is installed. This was inspired by another stackoverflow question and answer on a similar subject. All I want really is a HelloWorld type example as what I need to write will be even simpler than that. There is a lot of information on the Mozilla website, but as a plugin noob and a C++ novice I'm experiencing information overload. I just need a step by step "this is how to create your first simple plugin". I have already written the IE equivalent by following this ATL tutorial. This is the kind of level of guide that I would ideally like to find. Please note, this is specifically about Mozilla plugins and not extensions - Googling this subject brings up a lot of information about extensions in addition to plugins.

  I'm looking for a way to generate pdf files from html In order to make simple tabular reports I would need the following features table rendering variable page size repeating headers / footers on every page calculated page number / total page css support would be nice I know there have been many similar questions in stackoverflow, but I don't know if there's a product that supports the aforementioned features... Ideally, the source would be a plain and simple well built html with css, (I'm building the html files, so I can adapt to the products needs, that is, it won't have to render every piece of html crap you can throw at a browser) and with some custom tags to configure headings, footer, page size, etc... then I would run a command line to convert it from html to pdf. I think http://www.allcolor.org/YaHPConverter/ does something like that

  I was reading the article Double-checked locking and the Singleton pattern, on how double checked locking is broken, and some related questions here on stackoverflow. I have used this pattern/idiom several times without any issues. Since I have been using Java 5, my first thought was that this has been rectified in Java 5 memory model. However the article says This article refers to the Java Memory Model before it was revised for Java 5.0; statements about memory ordering may no longer be correct. However, the double-checked locking idiom is still broken under the new memory model. I'm wondering if anyone has actually run into this problem in any application and under what conditions.

  I have some VBA code that needs to talk to a running c# application. For what it's worth, the c# application runs as a service, and exposes an interface via .net remoting. So I'm taking a step back - what's the best way to go about doing this? • Eclipse Search Only Specific Folders

  Hello, I already saw the answers for a question almost identical to this: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/443169/eclipse-exclude-folders-from-search. However I am looking for a resolution that would allow me to say look at 10 of my 200 folders and those 10 change all the time. Is there a way I can search through just 1 folder and avoid any other folders that are not inside it? I don't want to create a different project as I am using SVN and I have had cases with mxml files and other files that adding a file that we moved from one project to another caused problems for other developers.

Ive been reading a log about tests, unit tests, tests frameworks, mocks and so on, but as a junior programmer I dont know anything about tests, not even where to start! Can anyone explain to young programmers about tests, how they`re run, where and what to test, what is unit testing, integration testing, automated tests? How much to test? And more important: how much test is enough? I belive this would be very helpfull. If possible indicate a few books too about these subjects. Thanks

• Get user-inputed file name from JFileChooser Save dialog box

  This answer to this question may seem obvious, but I'm actually struggling with it quite a bit. I've searched through JFileChooser methods in the API, and I've looked at some of the questions already asked and answered here on stackoverflow. My question is this. In my program, I am to allow the user to type in a file name which I will then use to create a brand new file that I will write on. How do you get the text the user has entered in the textfield next to the label "Save As:" on the Save dialog box provided by JFileChooser? Is there a JFileChooser method that would allow me to get that user-inputed text? Or would I have to go through another class, or do something else to get that text? Thank you so much, to anyone who answers. It's very late for me now, and this program is due in a few hours (meaning I'll be having another sleepless night). Desperate may be too strong a word, but I'm something close enough.

• WPF Editable Combobox IsFocused problem

  I am developing a Watermarked Combobox by modifying Combobox Control template. everything is fine when combo box is not in editable mode. but when i change edit mode to True, isFocused property never set to True. this is because in edit mode, combo box is using a Text Box. • jQuery AJAX not redirecting?

  I have a simple PHP page (for testing) that simply calls header("Location: http://www.example.com");exit;, which resides on the same server, in the same directory as another file with the following jQuery Javascript: $(document).ready(function() { jQuery.ajax({ type : 'GET', url : 'bounce.php', error : function(xhr, status, error) { console.log("ERROR: ", xhr, xhr.status, xhr.getAllResponseHeaders()); }, complete : function(xhr, status) { // Get headers of the response console.log("COMPLETE: ", xhr, xhr.status, xhr.getAllResponseHeaders()); } }); }); I was expecting (from several other StackOverflow responses) for the xhr.status to return "302", but instead the AJAX call is triggering the "error" event (and then the "complete" event), and xhr.status is returning 0 (zero), and .getAllResponseHeaders() is coming back null (in both the error, and complete functions). Firebug is showing the "302 Moved Temporarily", and the response headers. So why is this triggering the error event, and not passing along the proper 302 code, and headers? Is this something to do with the Same Origin since the bouncing script and the fetching script are both on the same server? Is this jQuery or Javascript's fault?

• Accessing Singleton Instance Variable in Class Methods Throws Warning?

  Hello, I've using the Objective-C singleton from here at stackoverflow. The singleton in the class method accesses it's instance variable, which works, but throws a complie warning. How should I be doing this? Is there a way to do this without accessing the sharedInstance: in each class method? for example here is my class method: + (NSString *)myClassMethods { [instanceDateFormatter setFormat:@"MM"]; return [instanceDateFormatter stringWithDate:somedate]; } line 2 will have the complie warning. • Java replace slow?

  Hi StackOverflow, I have a Java application that makes heavy use of a large file, to read, process and give through to SolrEmbeddedServer (http://lucene.apache.org/solr/). One of the functions does basic HTML escaping: private String htmlEscape(String input) { return input.replace("&", "&amp;").replace(">", "&gt;").replace("<", "&lt;") .replace("'", "&apos;").replaceAll("\"", "&quot;"); } While profiling the application, the program spends roughly 58% of the time in this function, a total of 47% in replace, and 11% in replaceAll. Now, is the Java replace that slow, or am I on the right path and should I consider the program efficient enough to have its bottleneck in Java and not in my code? (Or am I replacing wrong?) • Can't get to Pex download (or visual studio 2010)

  I know this is probably not a "True" stackoverflow question, but here it is anyway: Is anyone able to get to the MSDN Download of Visual Studio 2010? I just get "Your search did not match any products." when I click on the New Downloads-Visual Studio 2010 link. I was able to download Visual Studio on Monday. But it is gone now. That is not really my issue though. That page is also where the pex download is. With that page down I can't download pex either. (I checked with a co-worker (who is having the same issue) before posting. So I know it is not just me.)

• 3 or 4 monitors with Nvidia and Ubuntu

  I saw that you are (were?) running 4 monitors with Ubuntu 8.10 and two Nvidia cards (http://stackoverflow.com/questions/27113/how-to-use-3-monitors). I was curious if you were doing this with Xinerama, a hacked up TwinView config, or multiple X screens, or some other method? Does it work with compiz? I intend to run my Dell 30" in the middle with two 1280x1024 on the sides and continue to use one X screen, and run compiz, on Ubuntu 9.04. Currently, I am using 2 monitors with twinview and compiz, which runs fantastic. I just can't get the third monitor running (unless I enable it in its own X screen, and then enable Xinerama to enable windows to be dragged as if all one X screen, but this breaks compiz, and I don't care much for having separate X screen). I am very interested in knowing how you set up 4 monitors with 2 GPU's. Thanks!

• Delphi 7 compile error - “Duplicate resource(s)” between .res and .dfm

Duplicate resource(s): [Error] Type 10 (RCDATA), ID TFMMAINTQUOTE: [Error] File P:\[PATH SNIPPED]\Manufacturing.RES resource kept; file FMaintQuote.DFM resource discarded. Manufacturing.res is the default resource file (application is called Manufacturing.exe), and FMainQuote is one of the forms. .dfm files are plain text files, so I'm not sure what resources is being duplicated, how to find it and fix it? If I tried to compile the project again, it works OK, but the exe's icon is different to the one I've set in Project Options using the "Load Icon" button. The icon on the app is some sort of bell image that I don't recognize.

• Using MS Moles with datacontext and stored procedures without using a Connection string.

  I have just begun to work with MS Moles for testing and I have followed the idea/pattern in which jcollum(thanks) uses a Mole for a table in this stackoverflow question here. But I am having a problem as I do not want to have to pass a connection string when I use the datasource as such: using (TheDataContext dataContext = new TheDataContext(myConnectionString)) { dataContext.ExecuteStoredprocedure(value, ref ValueExists); } I really like the fact that I just need to mole the table and everything else is done for me. I realize I could just mole the ExecuteStoredProcedure method, but I am wondering if I could just somehow avoid the sql exception I am getting here when I do not pass in the connection string. Or, if I there is a better way to do this? Therefore, does anyone have a solution so that I can avoid placing in the connection string? Thanks in advance.
