I've heard so much about Textmate - The Missing Editor for Mac and that it is the best one for Ruby.
What is your choice?
And what is the best Ruby editor on Windows?
E?

I'm trying to run ASP.NET MVC 2 web site under the Windows Azure Dev Fabric using the DotNetOpenAuth OpenID authentication.
Azure Dev fabric itself repeatedly crashes (dfloadbalancer.exe), when I authenticate.
Are there any workarounds for the issue that allow to use Azure Dev fabric and DotNetOpenAuth?
MSDN seems to have some old discussion on the same issue which has been abandoned.
I want to identify disk in c++ in my windows application.
For example:
I have a disk on E:\
Then I changed the disk, and replace it with another one. the name is still E:\
How can I know the disk is changed, it is not the original one?
If I have no administrator priority in win7, Can I still use some method to identy different disks?
Many thanks!
In ANSI C on Windows what is the best/easiest way to transfer data between two programs running concurrently without needing to write/read from a file? Data will be basic text. Thanks.
Hi there,
I am currently trying to get SoX working through PHP. It all works so far, but I don't get the output back. I've already read that one might route stderr also to the output with "2&1" .. the problem is, this doesn't seem to work on windows machines.
any other ideas?

I'm trying to play background music along with sound effects using Qt. However, I can't get more than one sound to play at once. For example:
QSound::play("Music.wav");
QSound::play("Effect.wav");
When this code is run (on Windows), you can hear Music.wav just start to play, but then it stops and Effect.wav plays. Is there any way to get the two sounds to play at once?
I need to create a .VBS script to reset the Windows local administrator password on a large group of computers. My problem is that some of our sites have renamed the administrator account for security reasons. Does anyone have a script which changes the password of the administrator account based on the SID of the original Administrator account?
I have a Windows form application that's consuming web services over https and is working perfectly. Do I have to make any arrangement in my code for the case when the user has an Internet connection through a proxy server?
I want to call the Windows API OpenProcess function on another process running on the machine. Will this always cause the file whose process I am opening to be write locked? Or does it depend on the access rights I request?
More specifically, I'm wanting to compile the XML required by Microsoft to create a GDF.dll file, in order to add a game to the Games Explorer in Windows 7. I found this KB article that explains how to programmatically compile source into a DLL or EXE, but I'm unsure how to properly compile a DLL that contains XML.

How does Windows with NTFS perform with large volumes of files and directories?
Is there any guidance around limits of files or directories you can place in a single directory before you run into performance problems or other issues? e.g. is a folder with 100,000 folders inside of it an ok thing to do
When a volume is attached to file system, on Windows,
the Window explorer detects the volume and refreshes automatically.
I wonder the technique.
How do an program(include device driver) get the notification?
-Of course, it doesn’t mean a polling. I want to get an event(or a message).
I would like to get the notification when a network volume(like SMB) is attached.
Thanks in advance.
Question:
What characters do I need to escape in a user-entered string to securely pass it into shells on Windows and Unix? What shell differences and version differences should be taken into account? Can I use printf "%q" somehow, and is that reliable across shells?
Backstory (a.k.a. Shameless Self-Promotion):
I made a little DSL, the Vision Web Template Language, which allows the user to create templates for X(HT)ML documents and fragments, then automatically fill them in with content. It's designed to separate template logic from dynamic content generation, in the same way that CSS is used to separate markup from presentation.
In order to generate dynamic content, a Vision script must defer to a program written in a language that can handle the generation logic, such as Perl or Python. (Aside: using PHP is also possible, but Vision is intended to solve some of the very problems that PHP perpetuates.) In order to do this, the script makes use of the @system directive, which executes a shell command and expands to its output. (Platform-specific generation can be handled using @unix or @windows, which only expand on the proper platform.) The problem is obvious, I should think:
test.htm:
<!-- ... -->
<form action="login.vis" method="POST">
<input type="text" name="USERNAME"/>
<input type="password" name="PASSWORD"/>
</form>
<!-- ... -->
login.vis:
#!/usr/bin/vision
# Think USERNAME = ";rm -f;"
@system './login.pl' { USERNAME; PASSWORD }
One way to safeguard against this kind of attack is to set proper permissions on scripts and directories, but Web developers may not always set things up correctly, and the naive developer should get just as much security as the experienced one. The solution, logically, is to include a @quote directive that produces a properly escaped string for the current platform.
@system './login.pl' { @quote : USERNAME; @quote : PASSWORD }
But what should @quote actually do? It needs to be both cross-platform and secure, and I don't want to create terrible problems with a naive implementation. Any thoughts?
Can anyone suggest a performance analysis tool that runs on win32 on a native c++ app?
How about one that runs on Windows Mobile?
(Preferably one that does not cost too much)
Thank you.

On a few Windows Vista Home Premium systems, the following returns an empty string:
wstring appData = GetSpecialFolderLocation(CSIDL_LOCAL_APPDATA);
Any ideas what would make that
happen?
What's another equivalent
path I can use for storing app data
(currently user accessible only, not
requiring elevation)?
Hello
Im looking for a way to get an application, any application, that has been started using ShellExecuteEx or CreateProcess to draw on an offscreen surface such as a bitmap instead of drawing on the desktop, this should include any dialogs the (Open, Save, messages) that the application invokes.
I am familiar with the Windows API, GDI and device context, any suggestions would be much appreciated.

I have a C program which has a function call that is defined in windows.h (which I have included), however, when I try and compile it with gcc, I get the error:
warning: implicit declaration of function `LockWorkStation'
I looked at the MSDN documentation and I see that this function is the User32 library file, and I was wondering how I would go about linking that to my file.
Same question for WS2003.
Do I need to direct people to install the VC 2008 sp1 runtime?
Is the answer dependent upon whether the Server runs an x64 or x86 build?
Does the VC Runtime get pushed out with Microsoft Update, or Windows Update?
