• How can I generate a unique ID using a hash in Perl?

  I doing message transfer program between multiple clients and server. I want to generate unique message id for every messages. that should be generated by server and return to client. For message transfer I am using hash data structure, Ex: { api => POST, username => sganesh, pass => "pass", message => "hai", time => "current_time", } I want to generate unique id using this hash. I have tried some of the ways, MD5 and freeze but this give unreadable id. I want some meaningful or readable unique id. I have thought we can use micro seconds to differentiate the id but here the problem is multiple clients. In any situation my id should be unique. Can anyone help me out of this problem?   I have the following association in my User model: has_and_belongs_to_many :friends, :class_name => 'User', :foreign_key => 'friend_id' I have the following uniqueness constraint in my user_users table: UNIQUE KEY `no_duplicate_friends` (`user_id`,`friend_id`) In my code, I am retrieving a user's friends -- friends = user.friends. friends is an array. I have a scenario where I want add the user with all those friends to the friends array. Ex: friends << user_with_all_those_homies However, I get the following error: ActiveRecord::StatementInvalid: Mysql::Error: Duplicate entry '18-18' for key 'no_duplicate_friends': INSERT INTO `users_users` (`friend_id`, `user_id`) VALUES (18, 18) What gives?

• .NEt on WIN to Mono on Ubuntu

  I am looking at a possibility to change my ASP.NET 2.0 app to Mono framework. I have used the mono analyzer tool and it does detect some p/invoke and interop dependencies. For ex. 1) We use excel interops and on linux we are looking to use staroffice/Openoffice instead. Is there an easy way of substituting excel with staroffice? (I know it sounds bizarre, but just don't want to miss out in case anyone has done it already.) 2) LDAP auth: What could be the best alternative in Ubuntu (or an other flavour of Linux) ? 3) Is there an ajax framework for mono? Preferably with similar controls as Atlas?? I hope I am not too ambitious here.. thanks.

  All, I have a PHP website written in Zend Framework and MVC. Most of the controller actions check if the request is an Ajax request or not, else they redirect the user to home page. I am thinking about various ways to break that site. I am considering the following scenario: A user creates his own PHP project on his Local machine. User writes a JQuery ajax post request to one of the controllers on my site and tries to post malicious info. Ex: $.ajax({ type: 'POST', url: "https://marketsite/getinfo/getstuff", cache: false, dataType: "html", success: function(html_response){ alert(html_response); }, error: function(xhr,ajaxOptions,errorThrown){ alert(errorThrown); } }); My Question is does "url" attribute in the ajax request above take absolute path? I know it takes relative path. Also, is it possible to break any site by sending such requests? Thanks

• xslt dropdown problems

  I have a page with two drop down boxes created in a xslt. I am using onchange in both blocks to call a javascript function. If both drop downs are loaded on the page only the first drop down has a working onchange. I checked the view source code and it shows both onchange events. Does anyone have any idea how to fix this? ex: two drop downs, select first one, it refreshes, select second it does nothing, select first one and it still refreshes. code removed.

• C# - Rollback SqlTransaction in catch block - Problem with object accessability

  Hi there. I've got a problem, and all articles or examples i found seem to not care about it. I want to do some database actions in a transaction. What i want to do is very similar to most examples: using (SqlConnection Conn = new SqlConnection(_ConnectionString)) { try { Conn.Open(); SqlTransaction Trans = Conn.BeginTransaction(); using (SqlCommand Com = new SqlCommand(ComText, Conn)) { /* DB work */ } } catch (Exception Ex) { Trans.Rollback(); return -1; } } But the problem is, that the SqlTransaction Trans is declared inside the try block. So it is not accessable in the catch() block. Most examples just do Conn.Open() and Conn.BeginTransaction() before the try block. But i think thats a bit risky, since both can throw multiple exceptions. Am I wrong, or do most people just ignore this risk? Whats the best solution to be able to rollback, if an exception happens. • correct way to turn EAR module into OSGI bundle

  Greetings to all! There is a necessity to turn part of EAR (namely - war) into OSGI bundle and retain it's interoperability. Glassfish 3.0.1 already has osgi-web-container module and I succeeded to deploy standalone OSGI war. But in case of of ex-enterprise war it looks a bit difficult to me. What do I do with EJB calls from inside future OSGI war? Is it enough to replace @EJB injections with true JNDI lookups? What about APIs and libraries shared across EAR? I could split and rearrange them, but still I will have at least one jar needed by both EAR and OSGI war. Duplicate, make it as OSGI-bundle itself and make it available to ear somehow, place it GF domain's library path? Any other ideas, advices which could make that hybrid working? • C# How to pause/suspend a thread then continue it?

  I am making an application in C# which uses a winform as the GUI and a separate thread which is running in the background automatically changing things. Ex: public void run() { while(true) { printMessageOnGui("Hey"); Thread.Sleep(2000); . . } } How would I make it pause anywhere in the loop, because one iteration of the loop takes around 30 seconds. So I wouldnt want to pause it after its done one loop, I want to pause it on time. Thanks!

  I have 3 tables (follows, postings, users) follows has 2 fields - profile_id , following_id postings has 3 fields - post_id, profile_id, content users has 3 fields - profile_id, first_name, last_name I have a follows.profile_id value of 1 that I want to match against. When I run the SQL statement below I get the 1st step in obtaining the correct data. However, I now want to match the postings.profile_id of this resulting set against the users table so each of the names (first and last name) are displayed as well for all the listed postings. • How to model dependency injection in UML ?

  I have a Contract class. The contract is valid 1 Jan 2010 - 31 Dec 2010. It can be in state Active or Passive, depending on which date I ask the instance for it's state. ex. if I ask 4 July 2010, it's in state Active, but if I ask 1 Jan 2011, it's in state Passive. Instances are created using constructor dependency injection, i.e. they are either Active or Passive already when created, null is not allowed as a parameter for the internal state member. One initial/created vertex is drawn in UML. I have two arrows, leading out from the initial vertex, one leading to state Active and the other to state Passive. Is this a correct representation of dependency injection in UML ? This is related to http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2779922/how-model-statemachine-when-state-is-dependent-on-a-function which initiated the question on how to model DI in general, in UML.

  Hello! I want to write a comparation procedure (t-sql) for site seo. I have a table with field 'url' (nvarchar()) that contain a part of site url's. Ex: 'mysyte.com/?id=2'. Also this table for each url contains metadata, that i need to extract. The main problem is that full url on site looks like 'mysyte.com/?id=2&region=0&page=1', and i just need to ignore everething, except url in table: I mean: 'mysyte.com/?id=2' = is a part of 'mysyte.com/?id=2&region=0&page=1'

  I wanted to search through multiple rows and obtain the row that contains a particular item. The table in mySQL is setup so each id has a unique list (comma-delimited) of values per row. Ex: id | order 1 | 1,3,8,19,34,2,38 2 | 4,7,2,190,38 Now if I wanted to pull the row that contained just the number 19 how would I go about doing this?   I have a delegate method with the following tasks: get something from the internet (ex: some image from a web site); process that image in a certain way; display the result in a subview ; getting the image takes some time, depending on the network's speed so the result of its processing is displayed in the subview after that little while. my problem: during the time between getting the image and showing the result the device looks unresponsive. any attempt to put some spinner, or any other method which is called inside this main procedure has no effect until the result is processed. how should I change this behaviour? I would like to put a big spinner during that waiting time. thank you.

• Why does $('#id') return true if id doesn't exist?

  I always wondered why jQuery returns true if I'm trying to find elements by id selector that doesnt exist in the DOM structure. Like this: <div id="one">one</div> <script> console.log( !!$('#one') ) // prints true console.log( !!$('#two') ) // is also true! (empty jQuery object) console.log( !!document.getElementById('two') ) // prints false </script> I know I can use !!$('#two').length since length === 0 if the object is empty, but it seems logical to me that a selector would return the element if found, otherwise null (like the native document.getElementById does). F.ex, this logic can't be done in jQuery: var div = $('#two') || $('<div id="two"></div>'); Wouldnt it be more logical if the ID selector returned null if not found? anyone?

• C++ How do I properly use getline for ifstream members.

  Ok so I have a problem with getline. I have a file that contains a couple strings. I created it by myself and I have each string on a seperate line. Ex. textfile.txt Line 1 Line 2 Line 3 Line 4 //Little snip of code ifstream inFile("textfile.txt"); getline(inFile, string1); When I debug the program and ask it to print out string1 it shows that "Line 1\r" is saved into string1. I understand that it's from me actually hitting enter when I created the file. This problem causes my program to have a segmentation fault. I know my code works because if I use ofstream to write the file first and then i read it in, it works. So for my quesiton, is their anyway to use the getline function without it picking up the escape sequence \r? If i am not clear just let me know.

• Is the a pattern for iterating over lists held by a class (dynamicly typed OO languages)

  If I have a class that holds one or several lists is it better to allow other classes to fetch those lists(with a getter) or to implement a doXList/eachXList type method for that list that take a function and call that function on each element of the list contained by that object. I wrote a program that did a ton of this and I hated passing around all these lists sometimes with method in class a calling method in class B to return lists contained in class C, B contains a C or multiple C's (note question is about dynamically typed OO languages languages like ruby or smalltalk) ex. (that came up in my program) on a Person class containing scheduling preferences and a scheduler class needing to access them.

  I have multiple comment ids I want to reset to a default value. Ex: <a id="comments_inner_toggle_45">example 1</a> <a id="comments_inner_toggle_608">example 2</a> <a id="comments_inner_toggle_28">example 3</a> ... How can I write the correct tag in jQuery to select every tag with an id of "comments_inner_toggle_" and perform some operation on it? I think it's something similar to: $('a[id|=comments_inner_toggle_]').whatever This is wrong however because the code above will only match the tag with "comments_inner_toggle_" and not with a number appended at the end. How can I fix this? thanks for the help! :)

• JList not showing items or showing selectively.

  I have a Java Swing application using a JList to show some data from a DB. I am using DefaulListModel as the data model for the list in this way: void PopulateSoldiersList() { try { soldiersListModel = new DefaultListModel(); for (Soldier i : myBackEnd.GetAllSoldiers()) { soldiersListModel.addElement(i); } this.listSoldiers.setModel(soldiersListModel); } catch (Exception ex) {// Error Message} } And for some reason, the list just stays empty... I even did make sure at runtime that all the data is set up properly in the data model and even in the "dataModel" property of the JList! In other place at the app i have a similar problem, but there, sometimes the list show few items from the model (but not all of them) I have no idea where to go from here... please help. Thanks!
