    Hi, BACKGROUND - I have a synchroisation function within my MainForm class. It gets called manually when the user pushes the SYNC button. I want to also call this synchroisation function when the scheduler triggers too, so effectively want SchedulerJob:IJob.Execute() method to be able to call it. QUESTION - How do I access the MainForm.Sychronization() method from within the SchedulerJob:IJob.Execute() method? I tried creating a delegate for this method in the MainForm class and getting it added via jobDetail.JobDataMap.   • When an NSWindow object has a delegate that is a NSWindow subclass, who is responsible to act on received events?

    So I'm building a program that features the use of the IKImageBrowserView component as a subview in an NSWindow. As a side note, I have a controller object called ImageBrowserController which subclasses NSWindow and is set as the delegate of the NSWindow object of my app. I have sent IKImageBrowserView the message setCanControlQuickLookPanel:YES to enable it to automatically use the QuickLook functionality to preview image files when the IKImageBrowserView is a first responder to receive key events. Then it took me a while to figure out how to make the IKImageBrowserView a first responder which I finally got working by overriding acceptsFirstResponder inside my ImageBrowserController. Now I understand that as the delegate to the NSWindow, ImageBrowserController has a place in the responder chain after the event gets triggered on NSWindow. And I understand that as a subview of NSWindow, IKImageBrowserView is in line to be passed events for event handling. What I don't get is where the connection is between the ImageBrowserController being a first responder and the event somehow making it to the IKImageBrowserView. I didn't set NSWindow or IKImageBrowserView as first responders explicitly. So why isn't it necessary for me to implement event handling inside my ImageBrowserController? EDIT: So after reading the accepted answer and going back to my code I tried removing the acceptsFirstResponder override in my ImageBrowserController and the QuickLook functionality still triggered just like the accepted answer said it would. Commenting out the setCanControlQuickLookPanel:YES made the app beep at me when I tried to invoke QuickLook functionality via the spacebar. I'm getting the feeling that my troubles were caused by user error of XCode in hitting the RUN button instead of the BUILD button after making changes to my code (sigh).

I'm using OCMock and normally, I can mock objects that are contained within my test class.     Hi everyone, im trying to implement some behaviors when a mapview element scrolls... by coding a delegate for the scrollview inside of a mapview. so, right now, i got a pointer to the scroll view used by the map view in my code. however, i wish to set the delegate of this scroll view inside the map view, but the issue is that the mapview already sets up a default delegate for this scroll view inside the map view. can i make my delegate implement all of the messages of the protocol, explicitly sending them to the mapview's default delegate while also implementing my own behaviors? how else can i go about adding my own delegate behavior, to an already existing default delegate....? thanks everyone, michael

    The purpose of my blog is to explain things for a beginner to intermediate c# programmer. I’ve seen several blog post that use lambda expressions always assuming the audience is familiar with them. The purpose of this post is to make them simple and easily understood. Let’s begin with a definition. A lambda expression is an anonymous function that can contain expressions and statements, and can be used to create delegates or expression tree types. So anonymous function… delegates or expression tree types? I don’t get it??? Confused yet?   Lets break this into a few definitions and jump right into the code. anonymous function – is an "inline" statement or expression that can be used wherever a delegate type is expected. delegate - is a type that references a method. Once a delegate is assigned a method, it behaves exactly like that method. The delegate method can be used like any other method, with parameters and a return value. Expression trees - represent code in a tree-like data structure, where each node is an expression, for example, a method call or a binary operation such as x < y.   Don’t worry if this still sounds confusing, lets jump right into the code with a simple 3 line program. We are going to use a Function Delegate (all you need to remember is that this delegate returns a value.) Lambda expressions are used most commonly with the Func and Action delegates, so you will see an example of both of these.   • How can I control UISlider Value Changed-events frequncy?

    I'm writing an iPhone app that is using two uisliders to control values that are sent using coreBluetooth. If I move the sliders quickly one value freezes at the receiver, presumably because the Value Changed events trigger so often that the write-commands stack up and eventually get thrown away. How can I make sure the events don't trigger too often? Edit: Here is a clarification of the problem; the bluetooth connection sends commands every 105ms. If the user generates a bunch of events during that time they seem to que up. I would like to throw away any values generated between the connection events and just send one every 105ms.   • What is an appropriate way to separate lifecycle events in the logging system?

    I have an application with many different parts, it runs on OSGi, so there's the bundle lifecycles, there's a number of message processors and plugin components that all can die, can be started and stopped, have their setup changed etc. I want a way to get a good picture of the current system status, what components are up, which have problems, how long they have been running for etc. I think that logging, especially in combination with custom appenders (I'm using log4j), is a good part of the solution and does help ad-hoc analysis as well as live monitoring. Normally, I would classify lifecycle events as INFO level, but what I really want is to have them separate from what else is going on in INFO. I could create my own level, LIFECYCLE. The lifecycle events happen in various different areas and on various levels in the application hierarchy, also they happen in the same areas as other events that I want to separate them from. I could introduce some common lifecycle management and use that to distinguish the events from others. For instance, all components that have a lifecycle could implement a particular interface and I log by its name. Are there good examples of how this is done elsewhere? What are considerations?

    OS: Redhat Enterprise Linux Server Release 5.3 (Tikanga) Architecture: Intel Xeon 64Bit MySQL Server 5.5.20 Enterprise Server advanced edition. Application: Liferay. My database size is 200MB. RAM is 64GB. The memory consumption increases gradually and we run out of memory. Then only rebooting releases all the memory, but then process of memory consumption starts again and reaches 63-64GB in less than a day. Parameters detail: key_buffer_size=16M innodb_buffer_pool_size=3GB inndb_buffer_pool_instances=3 max_connections=1000 innodb_flush_method=O_DIRECT innodb_change_buffering=inserts read_buffer_size=2M read_rnd_buffer_size=256K It's a serious production server issue that I am facing.     I've followed googles recommendations and steps for syncing my ipod touch, newest OS, with my google calendar. Sync works great when google calendar events are added or deleted on the marked for syncing calendar. They show up on my ipod. But when I make changes on the native Ipod touch calendar they are not reflected in the google calendar marked for syncing. What gives? I also have been unable to do an initial sync that would move my Ipod calendar events to my google calendar. Any suggestions?

    I'm trying to build a log correlation system on multiple hosts. SEC seems interesting but I don't know if it will cover my needs. How could I correlate system events, logs, network events, etc. on multiple hosts at the same time, in real time? Examples: If 5 failed logins happened on host A the last minute and if firewall B has denied lots of access on differents ports on A, then we assume there is a potential attack in progress on A. If the Apache service on host A didn't receive any request for the last N minutes and Apache service on host B did, then the load balancing could be faulty.

    I often use facebook for communication while working. When I do, I'd rather not see the facebook newsfeed. Unfortunately it's hard to remember to not go to the frontpage and use facebook.com/messages or facebook.com/events. Is there any way to always redirect from the url https://www.facebook.com/ to https://www.facebook.com/events/list? I use firefox on osx. I have tried the redirector addon and I'm not able to make it work, not sure if I'm missing something obvious or if it's outdated/buggy.

  • Windows log file monitor that supports custom events (eg. sending an email when it detects the string "ERROR")

    I know this question has been asked several times before but I can't seem to find a solution for my requirements. I currently use BareTail, which works wonderfully except that it doesn't support custom events besides line highlighting. I'm also trying TailForWin32. It has a SMTP plugin but it seems to be in beta status, and the highlighting seems limited. It also doesn't handle rolling log files very well (a blocking dialog box pops up, whereas BareTail just rolls over naturally). All I really need is something like BareTail that supports custom events. First prize would be a tool with a plugin-based architecture so I can use my own messaging plugins, but anything that supports SMTP mail would be fine as well.

However, I am keen to understand if there are any downsides. For example, is it something that is in widespread use and is transparent enough that it won't cause a maintenance headache? Is there any appreciable performance hit of the empty event subscriber call?

    I'm just playing around with a simple program that opens the camera. That's literally all that I want to do. I'm a beginner and I believe that I have the basics down in terms of UI management for the iPhone so I decided to give this one a whirl. What I'm trying to do right now is... - (BOOL) application:(UIApplication*) application didFinishLaunchingWithOptions:(NSDictionary*) launchOptions { UIImagePickerController * camera = [[UIImagePickerController alloc] init]; camera.delegate = self; camera.sourceType = UIImagePickerControllerSourceTypeCamera; camera.allowsEditing = NO; camera.showsCameraControls = NO; [viewController presentModalViewController:camera animated:NO]; [window addSubview:viewController.view]; [window makeKeyAndVisible]; return YES: } So basically, initialize the camera, set some things and show it in the main view. I set the camera's delegate to self because this code is placed in the delegate class (and yes, the delegate class is conforming to UIImagePickerControllerDelegate && UINavigationControllerDelegate). Main problem right now is that nothing is appearing on the screen. I have absolutely no idea what I'm doing wrong, especially since the program is building correctly with no errors or warnings...
