  Hi, I keep getting this error when I run my web app (asp.net mvc) in the mobile safari (ITouch) JavaScript Error line 1 SyntaxError: Parse error JavaScript Error line 1 SyntaxError: Parse error I have no problem running this in any other browser (including safari). I suspect this is something to do with mobile safari handling javascript files. I am using MicrosoftMvcAjax.js and Jquery. The above error is totally useless to me and I couldn't figure out where to debug or start. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

• Performance implications of Synchronous Sockets vs Asynchronous Sockets

  We are trying to build an SMTP Server to receive mail notifications from various clients over internet. As each of the communication will be longer and it needs to log everything, doing this Asynchronous way is little challenging as well as by using Socket's Asynchronous methods we are not sure of how flow of control and error handling happens. Previously we wrote lot of server/client apps but we always used Synchronous sockets, reason being they are longer sessions and each session also has lot of local data to manage and parsing messages etc. Does anyone have any experience over real performance differences between these two methods? Async calls use ThreadPool which we have experienced many times to just die for no reason. And we fail to restart threadpool etc. In one way Request-Response protocol of HTTP, Async Sockets makes sense, but SMTP/IMAP etc protocols are longer and they have interleaved messages plus state machine of server. So Async methods are really complicated to program. However if anyone can share the performance of Sockets, it will be helpful.

• [PHP] Singleton class and using inheritance

  I have am working on a web application that makes use of helper classes. These classes hold functions to various operation such as form handling. Sometimes I need these classes at more than one spot in my application, The way I do it now is to make a new Object. I can't pass the variable, this will be too much work. I was wondering of using singleton classes for this. This way I am sure only one instance is running at a time. My question however is when I use this pattern, should I make a singleton class for all the objects, this would b a lot of code replication. Could I instead make a super class of superHelper, which is a singleton class, and then let every helper extend it. Would this sort of set up work, or is there another alternative? And if it works, does someone have any suggestions on how to code such a superHelper class. Thank you guys

• Vb.Net web browser control not firing document complete with AJAX web site.

  The VB.Net desktop app uses the IE browser control to navigate the web. When a normal page loads the document_complete event fires and I can read the resulting page and go from there. The issue I am having is that the page I am driving is written with AJAX, so the document complete event never fires. Furthermore, when you view the source of the page after it loaded a new portion via AJAX, it hasn't change. How are people handling this? What are my options?

• Good examples of MVVM Template

  I am currently working with the Microsoft MVVM template and find the lack of detailed examples frustrating. The included ContactBook example shows very little Command handling and the only other example I've found is from an MSDN Magazine article where the concepts are similar but uses a slightly different approach and still lack in any complexity. Are there any decent MVVM examples that at least show basic CRUD operations and dialog/content switching? • Disabling Magnifying Glass in UITextView in an iPhone App

  I want to display text and I want to be able to know where in this text a user touches. Because the text could be long, I wanted to use a UITextView so that wrapping and everything would be taken care of. I want my own event handling for when a touch begins or moves. My problem is that the magnifying glass and select/select all menu are interrupting my touchesMoved events. How can i disable the magnifying glass, but still have user interaction enabled so that I can detect the touches?

  I am confused about the iPhone responder chain. Specifically, in the iPhone event handling guide http://developer.apple.com/iPhone/library/documentation/iPhone/Conceptual/iPhoneOSProgrammingGuide/EventHandling/EventHandling.html, we have the following: The first responder is the responder object in an application (usually a UIView object) that is designated to be the first recipient of events other than touch events. But UIView is a subclass of UIResponder. And the UIResponder class reference says this: - (BOOL)canBecomeFirstResponder Return Value YES if the receiver can become the first responder, NO otherwise. Discussion Returns NO by default. If a responder object returns YES from this method, it becomes the first responder and can receive touch events and action messages. Subclasses must override this method to be able to become first responder. I am confused by the apparent contradiction. Can anyone clear it up for me? For what it's worth, I did set up a simple view-based application, and call canBecomeFirstResponder and isFirstResponder on its view. Both returned NO.

• Auto_increment values in InnoDB?

  I've been using InnoDB for a project, and relying on auto_increment. This is not a problem for most of the tables, but for tables with deletion, this might be an issue: AUTO_INCREMENT Handling in InnoDB particularly this part: AUTO_INCREMENT column named ai_col: After a server startup, for the first insert into a table t, InnoDB executes the equivalent of this statement: SELECT MAX(ai_col) FROM t FOR UPDATE; InnoDB increments by one the value retrieved by the statement and assigns it to the column and to the auto-increment counter for the table. This is a problem because while it ensures that within the table, the key is unique, there are foreign keys to this table where those keys are no longer unique. The mysql server does/should not restart often, but this is breaking. Are there any easy ways around this?

• When to use an IOC container?

  I'm trying to understand when I should use a container versus manually injecting dependencies. If I have an application that uses a 1-2 interfaces and only has 1-2 concrete implementations for each interface, I would lean towards just handling that myself. If I have a small application that uses 2-3 interfaces and each interface has 2-3 concrete implementations, should I use a full-blown container? Would something something simple like this suffice? Basically I'm trying to understand when it's appropriate to manually handle these dependencies, when (or if) I should use something simple like the above, and when to use an IOC container like Ninject, Windsor, etc....

• Handle existing instance of root activity when launching root activity again from intent filter

  Hi, I'm having difficulties handling multiple instances of my root (main) activity for my application. My app in question has an intent filter in place to launch my application when opening an email attatchment from the "Email" app. My problem is if I launch my application first through the the android applications screen and then launch my application via opening the Email attachment it creates two instances of my root activity. steps: Launch root activity A, press home Open email attachment, intent filter triggers launches root activity A Is it possible when opening the Email attachment that when the OS tries to launch my application it detects there is already an instance of it running and use that or remove/clear that instance?

• Google App Engine - Figure out the time the current request reached the app engine

  Is there a way I can figure out the time the current request reached the app engine? For example a user might make a request to my app, but due to app engine latencies my code might not start handling the request until one second later, is there a way I can figure out that the user has already had to wait one second? The reason I want to know how to do this is because I want to do different things based on if the user already had to wait. If the user already had to wait a significant amount of time I will just serve them a page out of the cache, if the user hasn't had to wait yet then I will serve them a page which takes a while to render.

  I am trying to implement RESTful urls in my Spring MVC application. All is well except for handling form submissions.   Hi all, I'm using a DataGridView and I bind a List to the DataSource. I already have the right columns and I map exactly the fields. What I'm trying to do is handling a sort of RowAdded or RowDataBound (like in aspx GridView) event. The only event that I found is RowsAdded but no matter how many items I have, it is fired only 4 times the first time i bound, and twice the other times, with values e.RowCount:1 e.RowIndex:0 e.RowCount:[n-1] e.RowIndex:1 *where n is the number of my items is there a way I can get to a handle for each item?

• WPF TreeView drag and drop using preview

  I'm handling drag and drop events in a TreeView using PreviewMouseDown, PreviewMouseMove and PreviewMouseUp, however, there is an issue. In my PreviewMouseDown handler, I set everything ready in case there's a drag started (detected in the Move event), however I set e.Handled = true. This means that standard selection events don't get generated on my tree! What I want to be able to do in my Up event is to invoke the standard treeview selection changed event - except I cannot call events outside of the tree. So what's the correct way to do this? I have tried using the standard MouseDown, MouseMove and MouseUp events however there's an issue with messing up my multiple selection feature that means I need to use the Preview version of those events.

• Create Excel (.XLS and .XLSX) file from C#

  What is the best tool for creating an Excel Spreadsheet with C#. Ideally, I would like open source so I don't have to add any third party dependencies to my code, and I would like to avoid using Excel directly to create the file (using OLE Automation.) The .CSV file solution is easy, and is the current way I am handling this, but I but I would like to control the output formats. EDIT: I am still looking at these to see the best alternative for my solution. Interop will work, but it requires Excel to be on the machine you are using. Also the OLEDB method is intriguing, but may not yield much more than what I can achieve with CSV files. I will look more into the 2003 xml format, but that also puts a Excel 2003 requirement on the file. I am currently looking at a port of the PEAR (PHP library) Excel Writer that will allow some pretty good XLS data and formatting and it is in the Excel_97 compatible format that all modern versions of Excel support.   IBM has (had) a free learn-Java program called RoboCode, in which custom robots could be written that would then do battle in a 2D space. I would like to write the environment that supports such robots, but don't know what pattern or design to use. Each robot is a thread. Each thread is given a certain (indeterminate) amount of run-time by the JRE. A robot world engine would start by building a list of the players/robots, then enter a loop that allows each player in turn to do whatever it likes: move forward, turn left, fire toward the northwest corner, whatever. Each robot is also informed of events of interest: an enemy or several enemies are within range, it has been hit by a bullet, etc. The combination of handling threads that are also event listeners (are they also producers?) confuses me; it seems that there's more to the game engine. Even some general ideas would help. TIA.

• Error LNK1223 on ARM builds

  eMbedded Visual C++ 3 project, building for PocketPC 2000. On the ARM build, the linker throws the following error: fatal error LNK1223: invalid or corrupt file: file contains invalid pdata contributions On SH3, the project compiles, links, and works. The project also works when built for ARM on Visual C++ 2005, but I need to test builds specifically from eVC3. Any ideas, please? What's a pdata contribution and how do I affect (or disable) those? It's something to do with exception handling; I've tried disabling SEH by specifying /EHsc, to no effect.

• Freeze the indent of a row group in DevExpress GridControl

  I am required to display a DevExpress WinForms GridControl where the rows must be grouped by a date column. When horizontally scrolling the grid, I am required to keep the group row and group indents fixed to the left of the control (so they do not scroll with the columns). I have so far been unable to find any built-in capability for this. There is the ability to fix a column to the left or right side of the control, but the indent is not a true column. FYI, the group row portion is staying "fixed" by handling the drawing of it to always position it at the left. I do not see a way of controlling the drawing of the indent however. Attempts to custom draw an indent have been unsuccessful so far. We are using version 9.3.2.0 of the DevExpress XtraGrid controls for WinForms. Does anyone have any solutions or workarounds that might allow us to at least give the appearance that the group indents are fixed? Thank you!

  Hi Guys, We are in the process of encrypting all the SSN columns (had to do it now due to security audit). We already built the DBML and now we have to change it. Can you guys let me know if there is a good way of handling this in LINQ to SQL? We use stored procedures for Insert, Update and Delete but use LINQ to SQL for all our selects (ease of use).   I am working on a project where we are about to go to internal release. So we are working to clean up the small problems before then. I was looking at our logs and noticed a high number of 404 errors. On further inspection it seems that all of them are related to HEAD requests. I haven't been able to find any substantive information about the preferred method for handling this in a standards compliant manner. Is there anything out there that can point out the proper way to handle that.

• iPhone hitTest broken after rotation

  Hi all, I have a UIView that contains a number of CALayer subclasses. I am using the following code to detect which layer a touch event corresponds to: - (void)touchesBegan:(NSSet *)touches withEvent:(UIEvent *)event { UITouch *touch = [touches anyObject]; CGPoint touchPoint = [touch locationInView:self]; NSLog(@"%@,%@",NSStringFromCGPoint(point),[self.layer hitTest:point].name); } This works fine until the device is rotated. When the device is rotated all current layers are removed from the superlayer, and new CALayers are created to fit the new orientation. The new layers are correctly inserted and viewable in the correct orientation. After the rotation the hitTest method consistently returns nil when clearly clicking on the newly created layers and registers for locations of layers which are incorrect. The coordinates of the hit test are correct, but no layers are found. Am I missing a function call or something after handling the rotation? Cheers, Adam

  1.Here I am having a grid within a parent grid and there is a link button within the nested grid. 2.For the link button I need to use the item command event of the nested grid or I can use the item command of parent grid as well. 3.The issue is when I click on the link button within nested grid then item command event doesn’t get fired for the nestedgrid.But in case of parent grid its working fine. 4.I have tried handlers and item created event also to use handlers in code behind or in aspx.But nothing helped in getting me item command event hit for the nested grid. 5.Previously in case of repeaters there was one item command which was handling all the grids. I have tried different item command event for child and parent but it also didn’t work.
