• DNSMASQ configuration

  I am using DNSmasq, OpenDNS and DYNDNS. DYNDNS is for my FTP site, and I am using OPEN DNS to filter porn from my kids itouch/ipad. However, I would like a few computers to have the capability to bypass openDNS, and pass through to a fast DNS server like google or similar. I would also like to fowrard all traffice from DYNDNS to my FTP server. Any ideas? This is what I have thus far.. strict-order dhcp-mac=filter,00:25:64:DB:A8:8A dhcp-option=net:filter,6,8.8.8.8,8.8.4.4 Its not working thus far, can someone help me accomplish what I want to do?

• Assigning static IP and domain name mapping to local server in LAN

  I have developed a web application which will be deployed in a LAN environemnt. Clients will be Computers/Android Tablets/IPAD In order for communication between client and local server 1) need to assign a static IP to local server. 2) need a domian name mapping for that IP address in Local environment. 3) router should assign the same static IP if it gets restarted etc. I am using a windows XP machine as Local server OS. Do i need to take care of router configurations before buying one, or all routers will have same capability to perform this task. • Can connect to DNS addresses typed in the URL but not by IP addresses

  I just changed over my modem to bridged mode, and changed my wireless router to PPPoE. My PC IP address is reserved and forwards port 80 to my computer's IP address based on my MAC address. I have a problem, however. I cannot access my local webserver by public IP address or my router 192.168.0.1 wirelessly from any other computer or iPad. I can, however, connect by this PC which is connected to the wireless router via ethernet. Via wireless, it says it cannot connect, however DNS addresses work (e.g. google.com, etc.) Any ideas?

• tomato firmware unstable when I am connected to Chromecast

  I have an Asus RT-N12D1, and I installed the tomato firmware by shibby ( version tomato-K26-1.28.RT-N5x-MIPSR2-112-Max.trx). However I found that the connection can be really unstable. Whenever I stream youtube videos on TV via Chromecast ( I tried both the cast from iPad and Win7, both can reproduce the problem), the router will frequently restart itself, leading to a loss of connection and subsequent reconnection. I want to get this problem fixed, but I don't know how. Is there anyway where I can troubleshoot what is the real problem, or is there anyway I can collect enough log information so that I can then present to the original developer for a fix ( maybe)?

• What VNC (or similar) software for Windows 7 Home allows me to control my parents’ computer remotely as an administrator user?

  Here’s what I dream of: I install Windows 7 Home on my parents’ PC. They have a regular user account that they use, meaning they can’t install anything. I have an administrator account, meaning I can install things for them. I install some sort of VNC software on their machine that lets me access their computer remotely under the administrator account, so that I can install software for them (or do other administrator tasks, e.g. updates) without actually going to their house. Is there any VNC or VNC-like software that supports the above? (I guess I might be better off buying them Windows 7 Professional, and using Remote Desktop. At some point I’ll give up and get them an iPad, but for now, remote Windows admin is the dream.)

• Is it possible to use Logmein to connect to a sleeping (Mac) computer on a wireless network?

  I'm using logmein to access my Mac. So I have the local logmein app running on my MacBook Pro, which is on my home wireless network. I access it either from the website (www.logmein.com) or the Logmein Ignition Apps on the iphone or ipad. My problem is that I have to set my MacBook Pro to not sleep at all when plugged in to make this a practical solution, because logmein cant seem to wake it up. I did change the settings in System Preferences to allow "Wake from Lan", but it seems like this won't work with a a Wifi connection. Am I missing anything? Assuming I'm not, is it bad for my computer to basically leave it running and not asleep most of the time?

• European wireless data

  I am on my way to Europe for 20 days with the wife and teenage kids. Among us, we have 3 iPhones, 1 Blackberry, 2 iPad 3G and 2 Macbook Pro laptops. Each has Skype. I am very concerned about AT&T data charges, and I am looking for a sensible alternative. For example, the AT&T data plans for the phones and iPads are $200 EACH for 200 MB per device. That is $1,200 and does not even cover the laptops. Ouch!!! I am thinking about a prepaid data plan from a European cell system of some sort combined with a GSM data modem and a Cradlepoint router, such as the CTR500. So, questions: 1) Anyone know of a GSM data source in Europe where I can buy a GSM Modem compatible with the CTR500 at a reasonable prepaid rate? 2) Experience with the CTR500?

• Cisco ASA 5505 and slow download speeds for Apple devices

  For traffic routing through my ASA 5505, downloads for all Apple devices, including AppleTV iPad gen 1 IMac MacBook Pro are very slow. speedof.me show less than 1 Mbps download (where I should have 20 Mbps +), yet for any Windows-based device, the download speeds are in excess of 20 Mbps. The Windows device, including the iMac and MacBook Pro machines, are connected via ethernet cable. Why are Apple devices experiencing such pain? Is it an ASA setting, or something else? Thanks.

• Unable to access Citrix XenApp 6 published applications externally

  We are trying to use a trial of Citrix XenApp 6 Fundamentals to virtualise a couple of applications as a proof of concept. We haven't ever used it before so I confess to be a noob with it. We can connect to the XenApp web interface, and the iPad app will connect and list the applications, but the applications themselves will not load. I discovered in the .ica file that it was attempting to connect to the internal IP address of the server instead of its static external. I have been following various threads on Citrix but nothing seems to have fixed it for me. The server is deployed on an EC2 instance with a static elastic IP. All the ports are opened and I can telnet into the XenApp server on 1493 and I get the ICA response. I have also run on ALTADDR and provided the external IP address. Does anyone have any ideas?

• VPN and Bonjour conflicting

  Does anyone know why a VPN connection might interfere with Apple's Bonjour? I've noticed that my Mac and various iDevices have trouble finding each other on my local network, when I have VPN connections open. Things like Home Sharing and Wi-Fi Sync work some of the time, but sometimes fail to find the other device. The VPN connections are made using IPSecuritas, which is a GUI around raccoon. I have the local "endpoint mode" set to Host. Apple mentions that Home Sharing may conflict with VPNs, but they don't specify why, or how to fix it. I'm using a Mac with OS 10.7.3 and IPSecuritas to connect to the VPN, an iPhone, and an iPad.

• Hardware needs for video conversion server

  I would need to build a Linux server that will have as its main task to perform the video conversion. For video conversion, the most likely I will use FFMpeg tool. Question: Can anyone tell me if for improving this automated video conversion a video card will improve the process or not? The idea is that I will get movies at a very high quality that I will need to be converted in formats available for different devices (iPhone, iPad, etc.). That conversion will be performed through a CLI (command line interface). I will need that conversion to be done in the least time possible (ok, that's a kind of saying, not an absolutely specified short time).

  Right now I'm running Wordpress w/ W3 Cache on nginx with varnish front end. I'm trying to use the WP Touch Pro plugin for wordpress to display mobile sites, but it is not working. Shows the desktop theme still. I've put the mobile user agents in the rejected user agents box in w3 cache. • how to run apache2 or nginx + php on iPhone? [closed]

  Is there a way to run Apache2 or Nginx with PHP on the iPhone? Im surprised so little info is available on this topic, as it seems quite interesting to host websites on an iPhone. Consider slow 3G connections or no 3G at all, and you want to demonstrate some webapplication you wrote... hosting them on the iphone would be an awsome way to fix the speed issues with the mobile network speeds. For the Ipad there are several addoptions available, nothing much usable on iphone / nginx apache2 search terms anywhere :( I want to host some websites on my iphone for demonstration purposes. So when im "out the office" Ill be able to very fast browse some websites that I host on the Iphone. there is no decent information out there, does anyone have a lead on how to do this? My question is specific to if nginx or apache2 can be run on the iphone, it would be nice if PHP would run on it too

• Planning home network

  I'm planning to setup my home network from scratch and want to ask professional opinions or tips. My home is connected to Internet with a cable connection (100 Mb/s). The devices I would like to connect are VoIP phone (RJ-45), TV (WiFi/LAN), 3 laptops (WiFi), 2 smartphones (WiFi), an iPad (WiFi), a Kindle (WiFi), a network printer and, probably, a home media storage (WiFi/LAN). As you can see, the most load will be on WiFi connections (probably, even if TV supports WiFi it's better to connect it by LAN?). So, I need help to choose the best router (or combination of routers) to support stable connections for all these devices and minimize the total number of routers/adapters. I like how Cisco/Linksys devices were working for me in the past, so preferably (but not obligatorily) I want to setup network with their solutions. Any thoughts?

• Vim: Fuzzy file search comparable to Sublime Text 2's?

  I've tried FuzzyFinder, Command-T, and Ctrl-P (which is my finder of choice right now), but none hold a candle to Sublime Text 2. For example, I want to type: Head.php and have it find, among others: app/code/core/Mage/Page/Block/Html/Head.php Currently in Ctrl-P, which has otherwise served me better than Command-T, searching for Head.php gives me these first: downloader/lib/Mage/Connect/Command/Config_Header.php app/code/local/Namespace/Modals/Helper/Reader.php app/code/core/Mage/XMLConnect/Helper/Ipad.php My file is nowhere to be found (and I've never opened any of the above files), so I have to type this instead: pagehtmlhead.php Is there any utility that does smarter scoring/matching?

  I am running a basic iredmail install with amavis, postfix, dovecot. I want to use the declaimer feature to automatically append a disclaimer (in our case a signature). The reasoning for this is that clients (ipad, outlook, etc) don’t have to be configured with signature settings, and that we have corporate control over the actual signatures that are posted. Instead of: '[email protected]' => 'boss.domain.com.txt' I am trying to get to %mailbox + ‘@’ + %domain => %mailbox + “.” + %domain + ‘.txt’ This way we can simply use a script to generate the .txt / .htm signature files using just mysql / php. • Saving each layer of a Photoshop image to separate files

  I have a PSD file with all icons in separate layers as vectors. I would like to save them in different sizes to use in iPhone, iPhone4 and iPad. I tried Files Scripts Export Layers to Files That took about 15 minutes to save each layer while the computer was overheating from the work. Tried with two different computers, one with CS4 and the other with CS5. Same result. And that doesn't allow me to set sizes. Seem like most icon packs, like pictos, glyphish and iconsweets are distributed in this way, in one PSD file. Is some easy way to get them out of the PSD and into PNG files?

  So I have an ipad, and I have my gmail account there configured via Microsoft Exchange... I don't know a lot about the underlying technologies, but using exchange is mind blowingly awesome... I mean, I receive mail INSTANTLY, and to be able to sync things like my calendars and my contacts at the same time, its just amazing... So enough gloating, and onwards to the real problem... How do I do the same thing on my Mac? Any email client will do... I've tried both, the built in Mac Mail (4.5) app, as well as Outlook for Mac 2011... And I can't get it to work on either...

• Setting up an SVN repository on a windows server to work with XCode.

  Hi, I need to setup an SVN repository for an iPhone / iPad app that I'm working on. It needs to be setup on a Windows server 2003 instance. We run VSS on it, but it doesn't really work all that well with XCode, so I'd like to migrate ASAP. The problem is, I'm a new graduate and this is the first time I'll be using a souce control software, so any tutorials on how to set one up, configure it to work correctly with Macs using XCode are greatly appreciated! Though it's not a priority, I'd also like to try to get my company to ditch VSS for SVN (Been reading this article yesterday - http://www.codinghorror.com/blog/2006/08/source-control-anything-but-sourcesafe.html). It really makes life easy to be able to receive and respond to mail instantly, not to mention the contact and calendar syncing... Any ideas? Most tasks will be PDF/docs processing, real-time audio processing, web-surfing and Skype video chats. Certainly, there is no any fan-less model today; but maybe some of the existed laptops do not switch on their fans so often or implement different solutions? For example, an iPad has no fan at all and it is fast enough for my needs, but it has no normal operating system, so I can't use it for anything but audio chats and web-surfing. Or maybe I can buy a laptop and tweak it to make it absolutely noiseless? Can you recommend any solution please?

• Windows 7 Won't connect to Wireless Router too far away (but still have 3 bars)

  I have found this problem a couple of times. Windows 7 with Intel AGN 5100 won't connect to a WPA2-PSK router when it's too far away. Both times I've had this happen I was in a foreign country (London and Stockholm), and both times I was upstairs while the router was downstairs. Now, it still has 2-3 bars when looking at local WiFi, but I get the "will not connect" error, and debugging doesn't help at all (it doesn't know what's wrong). I went downstairs and it connected immediately (but I need to be able to have it upstairs). My Android Cell Phone and iPad were able to connect upstairs just fine. Any suggestions?
