• Dual usage of asp.net mvc and php under same domain

  Hello all, I've got a scenario where we have a customer who has a linux hosted php app (joomla) that they wish to integrate with some back-end asp.net mvc functionality that was created for a 'sister' site. Basically, the mvc site has prices and stock availability methods which (in the sister site) populates dropdown lists and other 'order' style info on the pages. I've been tasked with looking at the integration options to allow the php site to use this info as a 'service'. (as ever, these guys are looking at cost of ownership, maintenence etc, so this is their preferred route) Has anyone done anything similar with success?? I'd imagine (much like the sister site) liberal doses of ajax will be employed in order to populate portions of the page on demand. So this may have a bearing on any suggestions that you may have. Also, the methods that are being called ultimately end up populating the same database, so there are no issues with correlating the ID's across the different platforms. I don't really want to go down any 'iframe' type route if at all possible, tho' reality may dictate this as being an option. I'm possibly (naively) imagining that i could simply invoke the mvc functions directly from the php app with some sort of 'session' variable being passed for authentication. pretty tall order or pretty straightfwd?? cheers jim

• Trouble using genericra to integrate activemq and glassfish when using failover protocol

  Hi, I'm attempting to use activemq in glassfish using the genericra resource adapter provided with glassfish 2.1. I have found a few pages with helpful information including http://activemq.apache.org/sjsas-with-genericjmsra.html. I have actually had success and been able to get MDBs to use activemq as their JMS provider, but I'm running into an issue as I'm trying to do some more complicated configuration. I want to set up a master-slave configuration, which would require my clients to use a brokerURL of failover:(tcp://broker1:61616,tcp://broker2:61616). In order to do this, I set the following property when calling asadmin create-resource-adapter-config (I have to escape '=' and ':'): ConnectionFactoryProperties=brokerURL\=failover\:(tcp\://127.0.0.1\:61616,tcp://127.0.0.1\:61617) However, I am now getting a StringIndexOutOfBoundsException when my application starts up. I suspect the comma in between the two URLs is the culprit, since this works fine: brokerURL\=failover\:(tcp\://127.0.0.1\:61616) Just wondering if anyone has dealt with this issue before. Also wondering if there is a better way to integrate with glassfish than using the generic resource adapter.

• Which CMS do I need? Needs to be easy to post a certain kind of post

  Hi, I'm creating a site for a video store and it needs to be CMS. I'm doing this for free so I need to use a free CMS like Wordpress, Drupal or Joomla. Do I need a new CMS, a plugin or some PHP of my own? What I need: User accounts Categories Custom post Here's the site as it stands with WP: http://sundancevideo.ca. Right now an experimental site to try to work this out. What I've done now, is created a "Draft" that includes a template table with images and text and so on. The user would then have to copy everything, past into a new post and replace necessary. This really isn't working well. As you may notice by the condition of the posts. What I would prefer is if it was integrated into the WP UI. Like a field for "Description" and field for "Image" where they can upload the images as necessary. This would then generate post, with a table including all the information and images, for as many movies that were added in the UI. Please ask if I'm not being clear. • IIS7 or .Net 301 Redirects from 1 domain to another

  I have 2 domains. For the question, I will call them www.old.com and www.new.com. Both urls are pointing to the same IIS7 Site instance. I need to it up so that when someone goes to www.old.com they get a 301 redirect to www.new.com. The tricky part is I am using URL rewrites for pages within the site. So www.old.com/About.aspx redirects to www.new.com/About. To get that to work with IIS7 URL rewrite rules, it also means that www.new.com/About.aspx redirects to www.new.com/About. That is fine and is not a big deal. My issue is how do I redirect the main domain without losing the URL Rewrites from the sub pages? I don't care if I use a module within IIS7 or if I need to do it in .NET code.

• What *collaborative* wireframing / UI mockup tools are out there?

  I'm looking for something that applies the collaboration focus (one location/URL, always up-to-date, multi-person online read/write access anywhere) of google docs / google spreadsheets to wireframing. Bonus points if, like Google Docs, it needs only a browser yet also works offline. More bonus points if it supports automatic revisions. Even more bonus points if you can hand out login-less 'invitation' URLs like Flickr does, instead of forcing people into signing up for accounts or using their home accounts. To start off, there's one called iPlotz, but it didn't enchant me -- ironically, mostly because of its akward UI, which can't hold a candle to omnigraffle (don't let that prevent you from giving it a try though). And no, paper prototyping, wonderful as it is, does not qualify: it does not combine being instantly globally shareable & editable very well :-)

• Drupal htaccess redirect - all files in directory to new directory

  Hiya, I've moved a site to Drupal, but am now getting a lot of 404 errors due to the search engines taking their time to update the indexes. The 404 paths all look similar to this: recipedata/ccp1300006/633_L.jpg recipedata/ccp1500005/risotto.jpg recipedata/ccp1500006/haddock.jpg So I'd like to do some htaccess redirection with mod_rewrite to take care of this lot. All the images DO exist - the path has just changed to /sites/default/files/images/ I've edited a lot of redirects into my htaccess already, but because the ccpXXXXXX directory changes I can't quite figure out the regex. This was my last attempt, but yeah - doesn't work :) Can anyone give me some pointers? • Using a Filter to serve a specific page?

  Hi, I am using a class which implements Filter for my jsp stuff. It looks like this: public class MyFilter implements Filter { public void doFilter(ServletRequest request, ServletResponse response, FilterChain chain) throws IOException, ServletException { request.getRequestDispatcher("mypage.jsp").forward(request, response); } } So the target, "mypage.jsp", is just sitting in my top-level directory. The filter works fine if I'm entering urls like: http://www.mysite.com/foo http://www.mysite.com/boo but if I enter a trailing slash, I'll get a 404: http://www.mysite.com/foo/ http://www.mysite.com/boo/ HTTP ERROR: 404 /foo/mypage.jsp RequestURI=/foo/mypage.jsp it seems if I enter the trailing slash, then the filter thinks I want it to look for mypage.jsp in subfolder foo or boo, but I really always want it to just find it at: http://www.mysite.com/mypage.jsp how can I do that?   This is what I think of REST architecture. For every resource, there is an unique URI. We can manipulate that object using its URI and HTTP actions [POST, GET, PUT and DELETE]. The HTTP request transfers the representation of the state of that object. In all the texts I have read, REST is explained in a weird and confusing manner. One more thing, RESTFUL implementation in rails produces different urls for different purposes. Like /teams - for 'index' method... /teams/new - for 'new' method and so on. Ain't this moving away from rest, which defines that each resource has one unique URI???

• Changing the URL of an ExpressionEngine forum

  I've set up a forum on ExpressionEngine and customised the URL as I want a specific path to the forum. To do this I went to Modules Discussion Forum Forum Board Preferences and in the Forum URL put in my desired URL. Let's call it http://www.mywebsite.com/students/forum/ My homepage displays the latest 5 posts from the forum. It all works except for the URLs which don't go to this URL and instead point to http://www.mywebsite.com/forums/viewthread/xxx Is there an extra step I am missing here? Why doesn't the forum URL just update automatically when I save it?

• What database works well with 200+GB of data?

  I've been using mysql (with innodb; on Amazon rds) because it's sort of universal default, but it's been ridiculously under-performing, and tweaking it only delays the inevitable. The data is mostly relatively short (<1kB of bytes each) blobs information about 100Ms of urls. There is (or should be, mysql cannot seem to handle it) very high amount of insert / update / retrieve but few complex queries - not that complex queries wouldn't be useful, but because mysql is so slow that it's far faster to get the data out, process it locally, and cache the results somewhere. I can keep tweaking mysql and throwing more hardware at it, but it seems increasingly futile. So what are the options? SQL/relational model/etc. optional - anything will do as long as it's fast, networked, and language-independent.

• Regular expression to match one of two video ID's in a Google Video URL

  I need to grab the video ID from a Google Video URL. There are two different types of URLs that I need to be able to match: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-3498228245415745977# where I need to be able to match -3498228245415745977 (note the dash; -), and video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-3498228245415745977#docid=2728972720932273543 where I need to match 2728972720932273543. Is there any good regular expression that can match this? This is what I've got so far: @"docid=(-?\d{19}+)" since the video ID seems to be 19 characters except when it's prefixed with the dash. I'm using C# (of which I have very little experience) if that changes anything. P.s. I would also appreciate you review my regular expressions for YouTube (@"[\?&]v=([^&#])";), RedTube (@"/(\d{1,6})") and Vimeo (@"/(\d*)"). I do not expect users to enter the full URL and thus do not match the ^http://\\.?sitename+\\.\\w{2,3}.

• Future proof Primary Key design in postgresql

  I've always used either auto_generated or Sequences in the past for my primary keys. With the current system I'm working on there is the possibility of having to eventually partition the data which has never been a requirement in the past. Knowing that I may need to partition the data in the future, is there any advantage of using UUIDs for PKs instead of the database's built-in sequences? If so, is there a design pattern that can safely generate relatively short keys (say 6 characters instead of the usual long one e6709870-5cbc-11df-a08a-0800200c9a66)? 36^6 keys per-table is more than sufficient for any table I could imagine. I will be using the keys in URLs so conciseness is important.

• Ordering recursive result set in SQL Server

  I am having extreme difficulty constructing a query which returns an XML style hierarchy. We have a database table which contains a hierarchy of URLs for our website. The table contains the columns: ID, URL, DisplayName, ParentID, ItemOrder The parent ID forms a recursive relationship between the current item and it's parent. The item should site below it's parent in the hierarchy and it should also be ordered using the item order against items at the same level in the hierarchy. I have managed to get a recursive query working so it drills down the hierarchy sequentially but I cannot order this by the item order as well. • Is it valid for RSS feeds to include images with relative paths?

  I have an app which reads lots of RSS feeds. Someone added a feed recently that includes images in the html portion with relative URLS (i.e. it didn't include the http://www.domain.com/ part in front). Is this valid html for an RSS feed? I thought not, but I tried adding the feed to my Google reader and it picked up the images correctly, so they must be doing something smart where they guess the domain based on the feed's url parameter or something. Even if it's not valid, how common is it to see feeds like this in the wild? To display it correctly would require you to parse the html in the feed and find/replace parts of it to insert full URL's, so this seems wrong. But wanted to double check.

• ASP.NET How expensive is it to call an Application Variable many times?

  The short of it is: Is it costly to check an Application Variable such as Application("WebAppName") more 10-20 times each time a page loads? Background: (feel free to critique) Some includes in my site contain many links and images which cannot use relative urls due to their inclusion in different paths. Hence these includes contain frequent instances of <img src="<%=Application("Webroot")%>images\image.gif"> Is it expensive to keep calling an Application variable like this? Should I just put the Application value in some local variable to use where needed? IMPORTANT NOTE: I need my webapp to run fine on a server whether it be in the root web ("/") or in a virtual subweb ("/app"). Thanks in advance for any wisdom shared.

  I want to redirect users from www.example.com/apple to http://food.example.com/fruits/apple Note: This is a hardcoded redirection. Even a mapping if you will. "apple" will not be substituted with anything else. Nothing in the two URLs will change except for the domain of course. So there is no need for a regular expression to match the "apple" or anything else. There is already dozens of RewriteCond and RewriteRule things in the .htaccess file. I do not want them to be affected. This redirection is independent of those. I have access to the .htaccess file at the root of www.example.com and the httpd.conf What code should I put in .htaccess in order to achieve this? Or should I change the httpd.conf?

• iphone's nsxmlparser parsing RSS causes encoding problems

  Hi, Im working on simle RSS reader. This reader loads data from internet via this code: NSXMLParser *rss = [[NSXMLParser alloc] initWithURL:[NSURL URLWithString:@"http://twitter.com/statuses/user_timeline/50405236.rss"]]; My problem is with encoding. RSS 2.0 file is supposed to be UTF8 encoded according to encoding attribute in XML file. <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> So when I download URLs content I get text truncated after first occurance of char with diacritics, example: l š c t ž ý á í é, etc. I tried to solve the problem by downloading URL as UTF8 string, I used this code: NSString *rssXmlString = [NSString stringWithContentsOfURL: [NSURL URLWithString: @"http://www.macblog.sk/rss.xml"] encoding:NSUTF8StringEncoding error: nil]; NSData *rssXmlData = [rssXmlString dataUsingEncoding: NSUTF8StringEncoding]; Did not help. • Trying to parse xml, but xmldocument.loadxml() is trying to download?

  I have a string input that i do not know whether or not is valid xml. I think the simplest aprroach is to wrap new XmlDocument().LoadXml(strINPUT); In a try/catch. The problem im facing is, sometimes strINPUT is an html file, if the header of this file contains <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC ""-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN"" ""http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd""> <html xml:lang=""en-GB"" xmlns=""http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"" lang=""en-GB""> ...like many do, it actually tries to make a connection to the w3.org url, which i really dont want it doing. Anyone know if its possible to just parse the string without trying to be clever and checking external urls? Failing that is there an alternative to xmldocument?

• Will the URL /nosuchpage get routed via my ASP.NET MVC application?

  [I'm trying to figure out the reason why I'm having another problem, and this question is part of the puzzle.] I have an MVC 2 website that has routing set up so that URLs such as /Customer/23/Order/47 get handled by various controllers. I do not have a rule that would match, for example, /nosuchpage and in my Cassini environment a request for that URL will trigger my Application_Error code, which lets me log the error and show a friendly response. However, when I deployed this website on IIS7 using integrated mode, my Application_Error is not triggered, and IIS shows its own 404 message. No matter what I've tried, I can't get Application_Error to fire. Now I'm thinking: is the reason it doesn't fire because the request is not getting routed via my application? Either because I didn't explicitly set up a catch-all route, or because the file-extension fools it into thinking it should use the "static file handler" (whatever that is)? Should I expect my Application_Error to be invoked?

This all works fine except if I have a subdirectory named 'blah' in the original url such as foo.mydomain.com/blah/bar, then it will rewrite it as mydomain.com/mysubs/foo/bar (without the blah subdirectory) when what I need is the url to be rewritten as mydomain.com/mysubs/foo/blah/bar. So, what do I need to change to make this work correctly? On first invocation of a URL the user is prompted with the typical https browser "security alert" popup, on selecting "Yes" the display of the PDF fails. The HTTP Header on the failed response is: HTTP/1.1 200 OK Server: ECS/HTTP-Server Date: Tue, 16 Mar 2010 15:57:26 GMT Content-type: application/pdf Content-language: en-US Set-cookie: JSESSIONID=0000r111cRz1Vc-PtCJg8Cdu4eR:-1; Path=/ Expires: Thu, 01 Dec 1994 16:00:00 GMT Cache-control: no-cache="set-cookie, set-cookie2" Connection: close Subsequent invocations of the URL successfully opens the PDF (at this point we have the session id cookie set by the initial failed request).
