• Monitor displays "No VGA signal" "Check DVI cable" after installing motherboard drivers

  I bought computer with all of the needed parts, got everything sorted out, installed windows 7 but my CD-ROM doesn't fit my motherboard. So I had to download the driver manually and install it using USB disc. My motherboard: ECS elitegroup H61H2-M2, I downloaded it's drivers, installed the BIOS map or something, and then the computer forced a reboot after it was complete, after the reboot my monitor just stopped working and displayed No VGA signal, No DVI cable I think I've just installed the wrong driver, well but how can I sort it out? This is the driver I installed. On the book, it tells me to install the drivers, without the driver it won't see the Internet connection cable. I'm 100% sure there is nothing wrong with the monitor or it's cables. it stopped working exactly after the reboot after the installation.

• Creating my own kill cam

  I plan on creating my own kill cam system for a sandbox tool set. After thinking about the mechanics of the kill cam itself, however, I'm quite lost. I'm trying to recreate the ones commonly seen in call of duty games that show, from the view of the killer, the actual killing scene. My Thoughts: -I can't just keep in memory when people kill others because I wouldn't know when to start the 'recording process'. There is on way for me to accurately determine when somebody is 'about' to kill someone. -My only real idea so far is to have a complete duplicate of everything loaded off to the side copying all the movement from the original world but with a 10 second delay. That way, all the kill cams would be 10 seconds long and the persons camera would just be moved to the second world of their killer. My Questions: Is there already an accepted way to do this? Does anybody have any good ideas for something like this? Thanks if you can!

• Skype does not save user configuration

  On Ubuntu 10.10, I have recently started to experience this problem: For some reason Skype won't save any settings except "Sign in on startup". When Skype starts and tries to sign in it is unsuccessful (it shows incorrect password, in red) every time (I have provided the correct password). I always have to click to show contacts in groups, it does not remember it. Every time I have to go to options and update some notification settings. I know all these things should be "remembered" by Skype - this problem started only recently. I don't recall fiddling with any permissions that could have likely caused that. Do you know what the problem might be? I uninstalled (marking for complete configuration removal) and re-installed Skype, but it still remembers my username (why??). Can I find Skype configuration files on the filesystem somewhere and change permissions for them - or even better - edit the files to set what I want?

It states: Redistribution and use in source and binary forms, with or without modification, are permitted provided that the following conditions are met: ... What is understood by "modification"? Specifically I am interested whether any/all of the following is considered as such modification: 1) reading the original sources and then re-implementing; 2) reading the original sources, waiting for a year and then re-implementing something based on whatever you could remember; 3) direct and very significant "complete" refactoring of the original sources.

• Painfully Slow iPhone Backup?

  And now for something completely different... For the past couple of weeks, I've not been able to sync my iPhone.  What happens is that I plug it in to my computer, start the sync and two hours later, iTunes shows it's about 75% complete.  After some googling, I tried a few things like deleting old backups, changing some settings, etc, but nothing seemed to help.  Tonight I decided I'd try deleting all the photos and videos on my phone.  Sure enough, that did the trick.  I'm now able to successfully sync in a reasonable amount of time.

• Interfacing the payment systems

  Hello all. I'm a complete newbie to using online payment systems for web projects, and can't really think of where to start. Let's assume that web system in question needs to generate some income online, and the business idea/functionality is in place, while organizing cash flow is the only unsolved problem. Points of interest are how the custom developed software interfaces to payment systems, and how the resulting income is available to the owner. I do understand that there are probably hundreds of systems out there, but to be more specific on which of them suit, I'd have to know how they work, and that's where I don't feel like understanding much. • Legislative Alert - Payroll for North America

  We have a Legislative Alert for our customers using PeopleSoft Payroll for North America.   The IRS has made some changes to the FUTA reporting for the tax year 2011.  The IRS requires that all employers complete the 940 Schedule A form when completing the Tax Form 940.  On the Schedule A employers must indicate every state in which you were required to pay state unemployment tax during the year (even if that state's credit reduction rate was zero).  For states with a credit reduction rate greater than zero you must enter the FUTA taxable wages paid in that state then multiply it by the credit reduction rate to report the credit reduction amount for that state.  Please go to Document ID 1371681.1 to obtain additional information on this regulation along with Oracle/PeopleSoft position on this new requirement.

• Need to know best way to utilize LVM to backup Ubuntu

  So I've had issues with Windows which forced me to install and learn Ubuntu as I'm fed up with MSFT. So now I need to know the most efficient/best way to image Ubuntu so that if I messed something up in one point in time I could always come back to the healthy point in time. During the install I saw an option for LVM and read what it is though I don't know how to utilize it to prevent a situation where I have to reinstall everything. Help? • No Grapical log in or anything just terminal code!!

  I just install the unity alpha state 3, and i came across two errors, one stating it could not install a desktop feature or so and the other just had some errors that i had snap shot the error. When it says it was complete I restarted it and after it booted up, i see a long line of boot codes and then it stop with log in name and the after i put my log in name it ask for a password, but the thing is that their was no graphical lil window having my picture and my name, all I see was codes from terminal even after it admitted me in. Black screen white coding like it was a terminal on full screen only every thing was via terminal!!! HELP!!!!

• How to document experimental or incomplete APIs like @deprecated?

  Is there a good term that is similar but different than "deprecate" to mean that a method or API is in the code base but should not be used because its implementation is not complete or will likely change? (Yeah, I know, those methods shouldn't be public, yada yada yada. I didn't create my situation, I'm just trying to make the best of it.) What do people suggest? Experimental, Incomplete, something else? If I'm building javadoc documentation for this API that is still in flux, should I use the @deprecated tag or is there a better convention? To me @deprecated implies that this API is old and a newer preferred mechanism is available. In my situation, there is no alternative, but some of the methods in the API are not finished and so should not be used. At this point I cannot make them private, but I'd like to put clear warnings in the docs.

• After installing ubuntu 12.04 my internet connection has completely disappeared

  On my PC after installing Ubuntu 12.04 my networks are completely gone. Inside the terminal, after typing in nm-tool I get the following: The program nm-tool is currently not installed. You can install by typing: sudo apt-get install network-manager After I type that in then my password I get this: Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree Reading state information... Done Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable distribution that some required packages have not yet been created or been moved out of Incoming. The following information may help to resolve the situation: The following packages have unmet dependencies: network manager : Depends: iputils-arping but it is not going to be installed E: Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages I'm a complete novice when it comes to computers so I have no clue.

• Java EE 6 and Maven 3 using CLI

  NetBeans and Eclipse provide tools, templates, wizards and code generators for building a Java EE 6 application. They both also allow a Java EE 6 Maven project to be created. In his recent screencast, Adam Bien explained how a Java EE 6 project can be easily created at command-line using Maven 3. The screencast walks through the process of creating the project using command-line. The created project has no dependency on NetBeans and GlassFish but can still be opened in NetBeans and deployed on GlassFish. A complete list of Adam's screencasts are available here. • Transactional Interceptors in Java EE 7 - Request for feedback

  Linda described how EJB's container-managed transactions can be applied to the Java EE 7 platform as a whole using a solution based on CDI interceptors. This can then be used by other Java EE components as well, such as Managed Beans. The plan is to add an annotation and standardized values in the javax.transaction package. For example: @Inherited @InterceptorBinding @Target({TYPE, METHOD}) @Retention(RUNTIME) public @interface Transactional { TxType value() default TxType.REQUIRED } And then this can be specified on a class or a method of a class as: public class ShoppingCart { ... @Transactional public void checkOut() {...} ... } This interceptor will be defined as part of the update to Java Transactions API spec at jta-spec.java.net. We're talking about a fairly large organizations with quite a bit of code and a complete rewrite project in planning. Don't ask. Anyway, I'm trying to create a list relevant parameters to judge the toolkits. What would you use to drive the comparison? • How do I set my environment up for TopCoder?

  I tried out TopCoder today. While I liked the problem, the Java editor didn't work for me. The remote compiling time and the lack of unit tests also made it difficult to complete the task. I ended up coding the solution in Eclipse and the pasting it into the TopCoder window. I tried out EclipseCoder, but it didn't suit my needs either. What tools do you use and how do you hook up your development environment with TopCoder? How does TopCoder handle submissions, and is there any way to speed up the time it takes to process them?

• Do search engines rank internal redirects negatively?

  A client is in the late stages (code complete) of a website redesign and unfortunately hasn't implemented 301 redirects to point high traffic pages to the new URL's. As I understand it our only option at this point is to create redirects within the CMS. Our CMS allows us to do this: www.mysite.com/category/current-page.html will redirect to www.mysite.com/new-category-name/new-page.html The site now uses custom logic on our 404 page to check this list of redirects and if one exists forwards the user to the new-page.html I understand that using 301 redirects would be the correct way to maintain our page rank but I think that would require a code change which isn't possible. Question How will search engines respond to this? Will they wait until the redirect happens and allow us to keep our page rank (authority, trust, etc) or will they see the 404 page and down-rank us? Worst case...will they make our new-page.html start from a rank of "0"? Thanks for your help.
