Windows Phone Application Performance at Silverlight Firestarter This material from Jaime Rodriguez actually hit prior to his Firestarter presentation, but should be required reading for anyone doing a WP7 app... great Performance tips from the trenches... slide deck, cheat-sheet, and code. UpdateSourceTrigger on Windows Phone data bindings Another post from Jaime Rodriguez actually went through a couple revisions already.. how about a WP7 TextBox that fires notifications to the ViewModel when the text changes? ... would you like a behavior with that? Details on the Push Notification app limits Jaime Rodriguez has yet another required reading post up on Push Notification limits ... what it really entails and how you can be a good WP7 citizen by the way you program your app. Stay in the 'Light! • Enterprise Manager will not start on WebLogic after ADF install

    - by retrodev
I just built a WebLogic 10.3.6 cluster with EM and JRF checked in the domain extensions. Next I installed ADR 11.1.1.7 by first installing ADR 11.1.1.6, then patching the environment and running upgradeADF in wlst. All seems well except I cannot start EM. The application transitions to STATE_ADMIN, but then fails with the exception below. Any advice would be appreciated. <[ACTIVE] ExecuteThread: '6' for queue: 'weblogic.kernel.Default (self-tuning)' < < <1372081430346 java.lang.RuntimeException: • Big Data – Beginning Big Data Series Next Month in 21 Parts

    - by Pinal Dave
Big Data is the next big thing. There was a time when we used to talk in terms of MB and GB of the data. However, the industry is changing and we are now moving to a conversation where we discuss about data in Petabyte, Exabyte and Zettabyte. It seems that the world is now talking about increased Volume of the data. In simple world we all think that Big Data is nothing but plenty of volume. In reality Big Data is much more than just a huge volume of the data. When talking about the data we need to understand about variety and volume along with volume. Though Big data look like a simple concept, it is extremely complex subject when we attempt to start learning the same. My Journey I have recently presented on Big Data in quite a few organizations and I have received quite a few questions during this roadshow event. I have collected all the questions which I have received and decided to post about them on the blog. In the month of October 2013, on every weekday we will be learning something new about Big Data. Every day I will share a concept/question and in the same blog post we will learn the answer of the same. Big Data – Plenty of Questions I received quite a few questions during my road trip. Here are few of the questions. I want to learn Big Data – where should I start? Do I need to know SQL to learn Big Data? What is Hadoop? There are so many organizations talking about Big Data, and every one has a different approach. How to start with big Data? Do I need to know Java to learn about Big Data? What is different between various NoSQL languages. I will attempt to answer most of the questions during the month long series in the next month. Big Data – Big Subject Big Data is a very big subject and I no way claim that I will be covering every single big data concept in this series. However, I promise that I will be indeed sharing lots of basic concepts which are revolving around Big Data. We will discuss from fundamentals about Big Data and continue further learning about it. I will attempt to cover the concept so simple that many of you might have wondered about it but afraid to ask. Your Role! During this series next month, I need your one help. Please keep on posting questions you might have related to big data as blog post comments and on Facebook Page. I will monitor them closely and will try to answer them as well during this series. Now make sure that you do not miss any single blog post in this series as every blog post will be linked to each other. You can subscribe to my feed or like my Facebook page or subscribe via email (by entering email in the blog post). • VPN pptp connection Unable to pass through linux iptables

    - by user221844
    I have set up a windows VPN server behind Linux - Ubuntu box that is working as firewall and proxy server. Now I want people from outside to be able to connect to the VPN server, but the connection is not being established and I get on the client an error 619. I have checked the problem on the internet and it seems a firewall issue. what should I do to make the connection established through the firewall? here is below the information about my setup Firewall-External-IF-IP: 172.16.1.100 Firewall-LAN-IF-IP: 192.168.1.1 VPN-Server-IP: 192.168.1.10 and below is my iptables file content: #Generated by iptables-save v1.4.12 on Thu May 29 12:40:18 2014 *filter :INPUT ACCEPT [162000:140437619] :FORWARD ACCEPT [23282:27196133] :OUTPUT ACCEPT [185778:143961739] :LOGGING - [0:0] -A INPUT -p gre -j ACCEPT -A INPUT -s 192.168.1.10/32 -p tcp -m tcp --sport 1723 -j ACCEPT -A INPUT -s 192.168.1.10/32 -p udp -m udp --sport 1723 -j ACCEPT -A FORWARD -s 192.168.1.0/24 -o EXT_IF -j ACCEPT -A FORWARD -s 192.168.1.0/24 -i EXT_IF -m state --state RELATED,ESTABLISHED -j ACCEPT -A FORWARD -d 192.168.1.10/32 -i EXT_IF -o INT_IF -p tcp -m tcp --dport 1723 -m state --state NEW,RELATED,ESTABLISHED -j ACCEPT -A FORWARD -s 192.168.1.10/32 -i INT_IF -o EXT_IF -p tcp -m tcp --sport 1723 -m state --state RELATED,ESTABLISHED -j ACCEPT -A FORWARD -d 192.168.1.10/32 -i EXT_IF -o INT_IF -p gre -m state --state NEW,RELATED,ESTABLISHED -j ACCEPT -A FORWARD -s 192.168.1.10/32 -i INT_IF -o EXT_IF -p gre -m state --state RELATED,ESTABLISHED -j ACCEPT -A OUTPUT -p gre -j ACCEPT -A OUTPUT -d 192.168.1.10/32 -p tcp -m tcp --dport 1723 -j ACCEPT -A OUTPUT -d 192.168.1.10/32 -p udp -m udp --dport 1723 -j ACCEPT COMMIT # Completed on Thu May 29 12:40:18 2014 # Generated by iptables-save v1.4.12 on Thu May 29 12:40:18 2014 *nat :PREROUTING ACCEPT [17865:1053739] :INPUT ACCEPT [5490:357281] :OUTPUT ACCEPT [3723:223677] :POSTROUTING ACCEPT [3726:223870] -A PREROUTING -p tcp -m tcp --dport 80 -j REDIRECT --to-ports 3128 -A PREROUTING -d 172.16.1.100/32 -i EXT_IF -p tcp -m tcp --dport 1723 -j DNAT --to-destination 192.168.1.10 -A PREROUTING -d 172.16.1.100/32 -i EXT_IF -p gre -j DNAT --to-destination 192.168.1.10 -A PREROUTING -i -h -A POSTROUTING -s 192.168.1.0/24 -o EXT_IF -j MASQUERADE COMMIT # Completed on Thu May 29 12:40:18 2014 # Generated by iptables-save v1.4.12 on Thu May 29 12:40:18 2014 *mangle :PREROUTING ACCEPT [22695965:17811993005] :INPUT ACCEPT [13818180:11522330171] :PREROUTING ACCEPT [17865:1053739] :INPUT ACCEPT [5490:357281] :OUTPUT ACCEPT [3723:223677] :POSTROUTING ACCEPT [3726:223870] -A PREROUTING -p tcp -m tcp --dport 80 -j REDIRECT --to-ports 3128 -A PREROUTING -d 172.16.1.100/32 -i EXT_IF -p tcp -m tcp --dport 1723 -j DNAT --to-destination 192.168.1.10 -A PREROUTING -d 172.16.1.100/32 -i EXT_IF -p gre -j DNAT --to-destination 192.168.1.10 -A PREROUTING -i -h -A POSTROUTING -s 192.168.1.0/24 -o EXT_IF -j MASQUERADE COMMIT # Completed on Thu May 29 12:40:18 2014 # Generated by iptables-save v1.4.12 on Thu May 29 12:40:18 2014 *mangle :PREROUTING ACCEPT [22695965:17811993005] :INPUT ACCEPT [13818180:11522330171] :FORWARD ACCEPT [8527694:6271564562] :OUTPUT ACCEPT [14748508:11899678536] :POSTROUTING ACCEPT [23271280:18170828012] COMMIT # Completed on Thu May 29 12:40:18 2014 hope that I find the solution here ....!! :(

  • concurrency::extent<N> from amp.h

    - by Daniel Moth
Overview We saw in a previous post how index<N> represents a point in N-dimensional space and in this post we'll see how to define the N-dimensional space itself. With C++ AMP, an N-dimensional space can be specified with the template class extent<N> where you define the size of each dimension. From a look and feel perspective, you'd expect the programmatic interface of a point type and size type to be similar (even though the concepts are different). Indeed, exactly like index<N>, extent<N> is essentially a coordinate vector of N integers ordered from most- to least- significant, BUT each integer represents the size for that dimension (and hence cannot be negative). So, if you read the description of index, you won't be surprised with the below description of extent<N> There is the rank field returning the value of N you passed as the template parameter. You can construct one extent from another (via the copy constructor or the assignment operator), you can construct it by passing an integer array, or via convenience constructor overloads for 1- 2- and 3- dimension extents. Note that the parameterless constructor creates an extent of the specified rank with all bounds initialized to 0. You can access the components of the extent through the subscript operator (passing it an integer). You can perform some arithmetic operations between extent objects through operator overloading, i.e. ==, !=, +=, -=, +, -. There are operator overloads so that you can perform operations between an extent and an integer: -- (pre- and post- decrement), ++ (pre- and post- increment), %=, *=, /=, +=, –= and, finally, there are additional overloads for plus and minus (+,-) between extent<N> and index<N> objects, returning a new extent object as the result. In addition to the usual suspects, extent offers a contains function that tests if an index is within the bounds of the extent (assuming an origin of zero). It also has a size function that returns the total linear size of this extent<N> in units of elements. Example code extent<2> e(3, 4); _ASSERT(e.rank == 2); _ASSERT(e.size() == 3 * 4); e += 3; e[1] += 6; e = e + index<2>(3,-4); _ASSERT(e == extent<2>(9, 9)); _ASSERT( e.contains(index<2>(8, 8))); _ASSERT(!e.contains(index<2>(8, 9))); grid<N> Our upcoming pre-release bits also have a similar type to extent, grid<N>. The way you create a grid is by passing it an extent, e.g. extent<3> e(4,2,6); grid<3> g(e); I am not going to dive deeper into grid, suffice for now to think of grid<N> simply as an alias for the extent<N> object, that you create when you encounter a function that expects a grid object instead of an extent object. Usage The extent class on its own simply defines the size of the N-dimensional space. We'll see in future posts that when you create containers (arrays) and wrappers (array_views) for your data, it is an extent<N> object that you'll need to use to create those (and use an index<N> object to index into them). We'll also see that it is a grid<N> object that you pass to the new parallel_for_each function that I'll cover in the next post. Comments about this post by Daniel Moth welcome at the original blog.

  • Where is the used memory in Task Manager & Resource Monitor coming from?

    - by Sam Adams
On a Windows 7, the working set memory usage plus private memory does not add up to the total used memory in Task Manager and Windows 7 Resource Monitor. How do you find out where the used memory is coming from? The cached memory can't be part of it because sometimes the total cache is greater than the total in use. The commit memory plus the working set also doesn't add up to the total in use - but even that shouldn't be significant if it did, since commit is virtual.

  • Remote Debugging and deployment of a Project Built Locally

    - by Abhishek Gupta
We work on our projects locally, and deploy them on remote servers for testing. This is currently done via git commits/push/pulls. But the problem here is that most of the commit contain errors and/or break the code in significant manner due to the lack of testing. Is there a way we can deploy the code on the remote server without using git commits, or some sort of temporary commits or patch or any other mechanism? And only commit, whenever it is important.

  • Getting Facebook Posts Permalink from Facebook Graph API Search

    - by Alexia
I want to use the Facebook Graph API to search the public status updates concerning a keyword. For example, this works great: http://graph.facebook.com/search?q=obama&type=post It shows me all the posts with the word "obama" in it. If the post is a picture, it actually returns a field called "link" which is the permalink to the picture on the actual Facebook website, in the user's profile. Which is exactly what I want, but for pictures. But if the post in question is just a status update, i.e. just text, all it returns is the 3 fields: message, created_time, and updated_time. How do I view this actual status update on www.facebook.com? I realize I can view it on graph.facebook.com in JSON format, but I want to actually be able to show the permalink to the status update, or post. The final result I would like to retrieve might look something like this: http://www.facebook.com/[user id]/posts/[post id] With the [user id] and [post id] fields swapped out with the actual IDs, obviously. TIA!

  • AnkhSVN Commits Are Very Slow

    - by jakdep
Recently, I had to move my SVN repositories to a different server, but I am experiencing some performance problems since the move. I am using Visual Studio 2005, AnkhSVN 2.1.7819.411 and TortoiseSVN 1.6.6 on my workstation and VisualSVN Server on the server which runs Windows Server 2008. Whenever I try to commit a file or view the file history in Visual Studio it takes twenty odd seconds. I confirmed that an exception has been made for VisualSVN Server on the server's firewall, but when I disable the server's firewall the performance is back to normal (1-2 seconds for a commit). When I do a commit or check the log on a file in TortoiseSVN the performance is fine as well. To ensure that the problem was not related to the moving of the repositories, I am running these tests against a new repository which was created on the new server. So, I reckon the problem lies with AnkhSVN, but am at a loss as how to diagnose it further. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Is there an extension or a way to write an extension for firefox that allows a developer to refresh

    - by Kevin J
I'm a developer, and I spend much of my day refreshing the webapps I work on. Occasionally, I'll encounter pages where POST data was submitted, and firefox will prompt me to Resend POST data or to Cancel. Now, I know that I can just redirect a page to itself to get rid of this warning, but I still want to keep this warning for our users; I just want to be able to skip it while developing. It's also not just on one page, but at many different points throughout the app, so it's not like I can just do if $debug==true then redirect or something like that. Basically just a minor convenience issue, but when I encounter the message 50-100 times a day, it can get aggravating. What I want to do is essentially have 3 options when refreshing: Resend POST data, cancel, or refresh without resending POST data The third option would be equivalent to clicking "enter" in the address bar (which is what I end up having to do). The problem with clicking enter is that I often have to "hard refresh" using ctrl+shift+r, but if I do this with POST data I have to click cancel, then click enter on the address bar, then do a hard refresh after that. I would instead like to press ctrl+shift+r, then continue hard refreshing the page without the POST data. Does anyone know how to do this? Through an extension or otherwise? It's totally a minor issue, but it's something that constantly bothers me and I actually think it would be quite a useful option. Thanks

  • How can I Unescape and Reescape strings in .net?

    - by firoso
So here's my situation. I am working on an editor for a communications channel that works over an RS232 serial ASCII terminal. Let's not go into detail for that ;-) To simplify, I need a textbox on a WPF control that can take in text like "Commit\r\n" (which is the .net string "Commit\r\n") and convert it back to "Commit\r\n" as a .net string. I was hoping for a string.Unescape() and string.Escape() method pair, but it doesn't seem to exist. Am I going to have to write my own? or is there a more simple way to do this?

    - by danwoods
Hello all, I 'm relatively new to git and and having some problems early on. I've made several commits, but when I try to push them I get a response that says everything is up-to-date. I feel like my problem is the same on listed in this question, but it recommends the following: $ git log -1 # note the SHA-1 of latest commit $ git checkout master # reset your branch head to your previously detached commit $ git reset --hard <commit-id> What exactly will "checking out the master" do? I just don't want to lose the changes I've made... screenshot of gitk:

  • Proper way to set class variables

    - by ensnare
I'm writing a class to insert users into a database, and before I get too far in, I just want to make sure that my OO approach is clean: class User(object): def setName(self, name): #Do sanity checks on name self._name = name def setPassword(self, password): #Check password length > 6 characters #Encrypt to md5 self._password = password def commit(self): #Commit to database >>u = User() >>u.setName('Jason Martinez') >>u.setPassword('linebreak') >>u.commit() Is this the right approach? Should I declare class variables up top? Should I use a _ in front of all the class variables to make them private? Thanks for helping out.

  • Rails, RSpec and Webrat: Expected output matches rendered output but still getting error in view spe

    - by Anthony Burns
Hello all, I've just gotten started using BDD with RSpec/Cucumber/Webrat and Rails and I've run into some frustration trying to get my view spec to pass. First of all, I am running Ruby 1.9.1p129 with Rails 2.3.2, RSpec and RSpec-Rails 1.2.6, Cucumber 0.3.11, and Webrat 0.4.4. Here is the code relevant to my question config/routes.rb: map.b_posts 'backend/posts', :controller => 'backend/posts', :action => 'backend_index', :conditions => { :method => :get } map.connect 'backend/posts', :controller => 'backend/posts', :action => 'create', :conditions => { :method => :post } views/backend/posts/create.html.erb: <% form_tag do %> <% end %> *spec/views/backend/posts/create.html.erb_spec.rb:* describe "backend/posts/create.html.erb" do it "should render a form to create a post" do render "backend/posts/create.html.erb" response.should have_selector("form", :method => 'post', :action => b_posts_path) do |form| # Nothing here yet. end end end Here is the relevant part of the output when I run script/spec: 'backend/posts/create.html.erb should render a form to create a post' FAILED expected following output to contain a <form method='post' action='/backend/posts'/> tag: <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/REC-html40/loose.dtd"> <html><body><form action="/backend/posts" method="post"> </form></body></html> It would appear to me that what have_selector is looking for is exactly what the template generates, yet the example still fails. I am very much looking forward to seeing my error (because I have a feeling it is my error). Any help is much appreciated!

  • Clear all class variables between instances

    - by ensnare
This is probably a stupid question, but what's the best way to clear class variables between instances? I know I could reset each variable individually in the constructor; but is there a way to do this in bulk? Or am I doing something totally wrong that requires a different approach? Thanks for helping ... class User(): def __init__(self): #RESET ALL CLASS VARIABLES def commit(self): #Commit variables to database >>u = User() >>u.name = 'Jason' >>u.email = '[email protected]' >>u.commit() So that each time User is called the variables are fresh. Is there a better way? Thanks.

  • CURL & web.py: transfer closed with outstanding read data remaining

    - by Richard J
Hi Folks, I have written a web.py POST handler, thus: import web urls = ('/my', 'Test') class Test: def POST(self): return "Here is your content" app = web.application(urls, globals()) if __name__ == "__main__": app.run() When I interact with it using Curl from the command line I get different responses depending on whether I post it any data or not: curl -i -X POST http://localhost:8080/my HTTP/1.1 200 OK Transfer-Encoding: chunked Date: Thu, 06 Jan 2011 16:42:41 GMT Server: CherryPy/3.1.2 WSGI Server Here is your content (Posting of no data to the server gives me back the "Here is your content" string) curl -i -X POST --data-binary "@example.zip" http://localhost:8080/my HTTP/1.1 100 Content-Length: 0 Content-Type: text/plain HTTP/1.1 200 OK Transfer-Encoding: chunked Date: Thu, 06 Jan 2011 16:43:47 GMT Server: CherryPy/3.1.2 WSGI Server curl: (18) transfer closed with outstanding read data remaining (Posting example.zip to the server results in this error) I've scoured the web.py documentation (what there is of it), and can't find any hints as to what might be going on here. Possibly something to do with 100 continue? I tried writing a python client which might help clarify: h1 = httplib.HTTPConnection('localhost:8080') h1.request("POST", "http://localhost:8080/my", body, headers) print h1.getresponse() body = the contents of the example.zip, and headers = empty dictionary. This request eventually timed out without printing anything, which I think exonerates curl from being the issue, so I believe something is going on in web.py which isn't quite right (or at least not sufficiently clear) Any web.py experts got some tips? Cheers, Richard

  • ASP.NET MVC Facebook

    - by durilai
I am trying to do a seemingly simple thing, but having trouble accomplishing it. I am trying to automate the posting on my Facebook wall. Basically I have a ASP.NET MVC website that I post updates on, and I want to automatically submit the post to my wall. I see a lot of stuff on FB Connect and getting data, I just want to post. Thanks for any help or guidance. UPDATE: Just trying to resurrect, and be a little more clear in my description as I am not getting anywhere. I have a page that I want with a text box and a button. When I submit the form I want the message to post to my Facebook wall. I thought it was Facebook Connect, but I am getting no where as to how to automatically authenticate myself and post to my wall. I would like to use C# rather than JavaScript. private const string ApplicationKey = "XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX"; private const string SecretKey = "XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX"; private Facebook.Rest.Api _facebookAPI; private Facebook.Session.ConnectSession _connectSession; [AcceptVerbs(HttpVerbs.Post)] public ActionResult Index(FormCollection form) { _connectSession = new Facebook.Session.ConnectSession(ApplicationKey, SecretKey); if (_connectSession.IsConnected()) { _facebookAPI = new Facebook.Rest.Api(_connectSession); string response = _facebookAPI.Stream.Publish("This is a generated test"); } return View(); } } The IsConnected() is returning false. Any help is appreciated.
